250GB HHD, only seeing 130GB...
Ok, just put my new system together - mostly trouble-free! Prescott 3.4 GHz running fine at 34C idle.
Just a couple of gripes, which hopefully someone can help with...
Firstly, there's a Maxtor 250GB SATA hard drive installed. I enabled SATA on the BIOS (v3.2, as shipped) and it picked it up, but when I booted from the XP install disc to format and partition, it only came up as 130GB available! Is this a mobo/BIOS restriction? I'm not running RAID.
Secondly, there's only 1 audio connector for optical drives (most people I know have 2 these days), and the rear audio doesn't work if the front connectors are attached! How crap is that? Other than getting a sound card, can anything be done?

if you install xp and then sp1 you dont get support for big harddrives automaticly.
maxtor got a webpage with a program for that.
if its a slipstreamed version then you get support for it directly.

How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat. We had this working using Messages and Facetime (on the new machine) talking to my existing iChat account. One day last week, when Facetime rang, my kids answered on the iPad. Dang! Now it's all fouled up! The new iMac won't see my AIM account name and shows that I'm offline, because the iPad is off. We were able to call using "most recent call" in Facetime, but now I can't go and control that new iMac remotely to help with some email concerns the user is having. I'm trying to not personalize this too much, but it's grandkids talking to Grandma and Mom and Dad trying to solve new machine hiccups. Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?

Can only see New apps in iPad app store
Seems kind of pointless to search for apps on the iPad app store, when it will only show you the "new" ones. When I choose any category, then click the show all button, I don't get all, just the "new" ones ... never more than about 97 or so. searching the same category in iTunes for just iPad apps will almost always yield far more choices. for example I can only see about 97 utilities for the iPad from my iPad app store, but in iTunes there are 260 choices. They aren't iPhone apps either. Another example, if I show the games category on the iPad I can only see 27 New and Noteworthy apps, and 24 What's hot apps. No more. In iTunes I have an additional option of a subcategory, for example Action, there are 200 games released for iPad since March 31st available in that one category.
Not sure if I have a preference set wrong, it's just a bug, or if someone just wasn't thinking. Mayabe it's a bandwidth thing, but at least give me the subcategories or let me see the "next" 50.Kappy wrote:

Why should I be forced to use iTunes to see all of the apps? The iPad app store should see everything just like iTunes.. This isn't an iPhone.

I can only see some of the information of my Facebook friends in my Contacts. For example, a friend has a birthday today. I received an email that she and another friend have birthdays this week. I received a notification on my iPhone and iPad that her birthday was today. It was never displayed in my Notification Center or Calendar beforhand, like it's displayed for other friend's (for other friends, it's displayed in the Notification Center, with the Calendar icon, 1 day before). I looked at every setting I could think of and the Help pages on Facebook. Nothing is working. My friend with the birthday today has her birthday openly listed on her Profile information on her Facebook page. In my contacts, her Facebook email (the one Facebook assigns you when you join) is listed. However her picture and birthday are not listed. I displayed my Facebook Contacts only, and roughly 20 showed up and not the rest. It's like the devices are not recognizing those people and putting their information in the respective places. I have an iPad 3rd Gen, iPhone 5, and MacBook Pro (purchased in January 2013. I hope that helps) and ALL the software updates are current. Can anyone help? Also, my MacBook cannot access my Contacts from Yahoo. Despite my typing in the correct password repeatedly as well as deleting and adding the Yahoo account again. When I turn my iphone on, the usual main icon screen shows for about a second and then it blows up so you can only see a few icons at a time. How do you turn this off?
Your phone might be on Zoom somehow, try just the simple "gestures" fix
Double tap with 3 fingers on the screen, then drag down. That should at least zoom out. If that does not work, try scrolling through the screen, but using 3 fingers instead of 1.
From there you should be able to access Settings>General>Accessibility>Zoom>OFF

i got a macbook pro 13 inch core i5 late 2011 , it came with osx lion and i been using facebook videocalls normaly , now i updated to Mountain lion
but when i use facebook video calls in (safari ,chrome ) i see the window box but i only see my self i can hear my friends but cant see em, they also can see me and hear me but i just see me and hear them .
any ideas ?Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

Mavric doesn't support my 5 years old Big Screen Display, OR? Tried to connect my Mac Book Pro after installing Mavric, The Screen didn't work as before. I could only see the Desktop but not the movies for example.
<E-mail Edited by Host>It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files. -
I am trying to delete pages I have crated in numbers, but can only see them in print preview. Without print preview I do not see them. How can I delete these pages, but keep others before and after?

Numbers doesn't have pages. It has a canvas that holds objects such as tables and charts.
Drag the objects from the bottom of the canvas onto the white space above. That will reduce the number of "pages" (sheets of paper) that will print.

I buy programmes etc for the whole family and it used to be that on each ipad I could only see the icons for the programme I chose to sync to the ipd/ipod etc. However, now every programme I have ever bough is dospayed which makes it difficult for family members to know what they can watch and what they can't. How do I resolve this as it has only been sonce the IOS upgrade?
If these are videos, try going to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turn off Videos under Show All.

My sister gave me her iphone 4s for my son. It needed a new battery so, I bought one and replaced it. after doing so, it will not power up. I can only see the apple on the screen and when left for a few minutes.... 10 lines of numbers and codes show up at the top of the screen. Did I ruin the iphone by replacing the battery? Was a simple switch so I don't understand what is going on. Have never had one of these before.
iPhones are not user servicable.
Take the device to a competent repair person or buy a new one. -
It is used to be that I could right click on the Firefox icon on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and I would then be given the option to open all windows. Now I only see the option to close all windows. The ability to open all windows is very useful. Have you eliminated this capability? It was a very helpful feature because I often have more than 15 windows minimized at one time. On a regular basis I like to open them all and keep only the ones that I still need. I know that it is possible to see the name of each window that is minimized by moving my cursor over the Firefox icon, but this does not provide enough information. So I have to open each window one at a time to look at it and then decide to close it or keep it - this is a frustrating, time-consuming process. Is there another way to open all the minimized windows at the same time, instead of one at a time?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

How to I get music I purchased before the iCloud was created to show up on my new authorized iPhone? Right now I can only see the Apps I recently purchased on the actual phone but older music I purchased on my CPU using the same Apple ID doesn't appear.
Does any music show in the Purchased tab on the iTunes store app on your phone ? Music can't be re-downloaded in all countries, and even where it can be it will only appear whilst it remains in the store. Do you have your purchases on your computer and/or on a backup of your puchases so that you can sync them to your phone ?
