2560 x 1600 is gone from my display settings (2nd monitor)

I've been running my 15" retina macbook pro for more than a year now with 27" DELL monitor and it has alway been using 2560x1600 resolution display.
In the past year i've had no issues with mirroring my screen to big screen TV using Apple TV, however today something weird happened.
As usual i mirrored my screen using Apple TV to watch some videos and i had to change some of the display settings to get the best view on my TV.
Afterwards i switched off the mirroring feature and now my 2nd monitor (DELL 27") is displaying 1920x1080 only. I looked at all my options on my display settings (using ATL+click ) and 2560x1600 is gone missing from the list. Im frustrated and couldn't find an answer to this problem, please advice.
Couple things i tried;
- restart & shutdown
- reset NVRAM & PRAM settings
- changed mini display cable with another
- reset monitor settings
Weird find:
I tried to mirrored  my macbook pro to apple TV again to see the display settings. Guess what, the option for 2560x1600 is now back on the list and working (visually) just fine. as soon as i turned off the airplay display my 2nd monitor turns back to 1920x1080.
Note: the display on my retina macbook pro is working just fine, no problem at all. this is only showing on my 27" DELL U2713HM.

Hello! Just want to ask about mirroring: when you MIRROR the Retina MBP 15" to your Dell Monitor (2560x1600) : do both the MBP and Dell Monitor look sharp and crisp?
I'm asking because I'm also considering a monitor that's at 2560x1600.
Thanks so much!

  • Why is my app store app gone from my ipod touch 2nd gen

The app store is now missing from my Ipod touch 2nd gen, I don't know how to get it back, also i was wondering if it is possible to get older versions of some apps , example would be the apple remote app, on my 2nd gen ipod touch, since i cannot update the ios.

If you can't find it by the Spotlight search then it is likely hidden by Restrictions. Settings>General>Restrictions.
Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

  • Has the underscan feature been removed from the display settings for a projector in 10.8.2 for any reason or is this an oversight

    Hi
Does anyone know if there is another way to find the underscan feature in display settings for Mac OSX 10.8.2 other than through the display settings.  We set up our ceiling mounted prjectors at the start of September when we moved into our new school building at a significant cost. The projectors linked to the teacher's Imac projected onto the interactive whiteboards at the front of the classroom perfectly on 10.8.1.  We recently updated to 10.8.2 and now the projected image no longer fits on to the boards and is about 2 feet higher up to the wall.  The underscan feature is not available to drop this any ideas.
Moving projectors is not an option due to the cost of bringing in the contractor to extend the ceiling mounts.
    thanks

We have an SR raised which is now with development, but so far we have not been able to pin down what is causing this.
Basically we see entries end up on the recovery queue with nothing written in any logs, even if we increase the level of logging to debug.
This does not happen under load, the exact opposite. If nothing is going on and then we get 5-10 processes start, we see about 1% end on the queue. I pushed 500,000 messages through it last weekend and nothing ended up on the queue, yet a run on Monday of just 100 caused 2 entries on the queue with no explaination.
I have tried everything I can think of, but so far have not been able to re-create the condition at will, it is completely non-deterministic. It also happens on all 5 of our rigs, so it is not machine specific.
I have tuned the BPEL engine and it easily copes with our throughput. We are running with a 10g dehydration store, either single instance or active-passive depending on environment, but I do not think this is going to be causing an issue.
We have about 20 async processes and sub-processes and the problem can occur at any point, although mostly on Invoke and Callback. Each process contains a mixture of async (to BPEL), sync (to External) and a reasonably number of database adapters in each process.
It is not the fact it is placing the entry on the queue that is my issue, it is the fact we have no idea WHY it has ended there as there are no log entries.
Any ideas what else I can try?

  • MacMini (2011) problem with Thunderbolt display if 2nd monitor is connected via HDMI/DVI adapter

    Hi,
    iam running a MacMini (2011) 2.3GHz i5 with Mac OS X 10.7.4 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 256 GB Samsung SSD.
If i connect a Thunderbolt display only - all is fine.
But if i connect a 2nd monitor ( Samsung S23A700) via HDMI / DVI adapter (original Apple) the major screen (Thunderbolt Display) sometimes
is going black and immidiately back to normal. It looks like that it happens very often if i scroll down with the Apple Magic Mouse.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Thomas

I have exactly the same problem. MacMini Server i7 (mid 2011) Macmini5.3.16Gb ram.
    Mini and Thunderbolt no blink-outs.
Mini and Thunderbolt and Dell 23" connected to HDMI-DVI connector, the Thunderbolt display blinks out when system is under stress as in the Develop module of Lightroom 4.
I thought it was a problem with my Thunderbolt display, and since its on a VESA mount, I didn't really want to haul in in to the Apple Store.  I decided to be sure it was the dosplay...
I borrowed a MacbookPro i7 and ran it from a clone of my Mini. No problems aster hours of use. (But with only ONE monitor.)  That suggested that there was no problem with the Thunderbolt Display.
I decided to run the Mini with only one display.  Again no problems. I plugged in the Second monitor to the HDMI port and within 2 minutes I had my first "Blink-Out".
I ran the rest of the day without the second monitor with no problems.
I conclude the mini will not work reliably with two monitors if one is a Thunderbolt.
I was using two Dell Monitors before I got the Thunderbolt Diskplay (for 3 months) without incident.

  • 20" Cinema display as 2nd monitor??

Will the 20" Apple Cinema display make a good 2nd monitor for my 20" (non-AL) iMac?

It should work perfectly. All you need is the miniDVI-to-DVI adapter and a DVI-D cable.

  • No display on 2nd monitor with a mini displayport to dvi

    Hi there,
I have now owned my Macbook Pro for 2 weeks and received my mini displayport in the post today. Once everything was plugged into my LG monitor, there is a signal present as it shows up in the system preferences and i can move windows to the other screen, but the monitor screen is black and telling me there is no signal.
This is very frustrating as I hate being restricted to a small screen.
Hopefully someone will have be able to help.
    thanks,

You are right: Thunderbolt supports both Mini DisplayPort cables and adapters without any problem, but Mini DisplayPort does not support Thunderbolt cables.
If you have got an Apple display with Mini DisplayPort, you can use it with the new Mac Pro. Just use the Mini DisplayPort cable or adapter you need. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5219?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US#22

  • On 11in Macbook Air (10.10), how do I increase resolution of built-in display to 2560 by 1600 pixels?

On 11in Macbook Air (10.10), how do I increase resolution of built-in display to 2560 by 1600 pixels?
It can be accomplished when an external display is connected, so I expect it can be done without an external display.

You're getting full native resolution 1366 x 768 on your internal display, nothing more.

  • Static from thunderbolt display speakers?

There is a lot of static from thunderbolt display speakers - this monitor is brand new, so can't be worn out... Anything to fix it?

I have a similiar problem in that my TB display makes a hissing whenever there is some type of connection between the MBP and the display.  It can be so noisy that I have to disconnect the $900 display.  Apple doesn't seem to care that it's customers have this problem as they've yet to provide a fix.  On one thread I saw they made someone pay $200 to fix the problem.

  • Help with display settings needed urgently

Graphics and icons that are supposed to be round appear oval. For instance the Safari and App icons on the dock appear very oval. Logos on websites I've visited before and I know are round appear oval.
I've tried all display settings and nothing helps. I'm a designer and this is causing a major hinderance. Everything appears condenced / squashed sideways. I'd be very grateful if someone could help with this.
I've just purchased the laptop. I have been using Mac for a few years and I've always selected the "stretched" option from the Display settings which sorted out the problem completely. A circle looked a proper circle. But in this version the option is not available.
Badly hoping someone can help with this.
    Thanks.
    Version Details - OS X Lion 10.7.4

It sounds like you have selected an incorrect resolution.  For starters, are you talking about your Air's display or an external display?  You haven't said which Air you have.  If you have an 11" model, make sure your display resolution is set to 1366x768.  If you have a 13" model, it should be set to 1440x900.  These are the proper resolutions for the built in displays.  Chosing anything other than the referenced "native" display resolutions will result in distortions or clarity problems.

  • [Solved]xfce 4.12: Display Settings - Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Just upgraded to Xfce 4.12  from 4.10 last week I have just one big issue so far: the display settings panel doesn't work. When I click on it, nothing happens.
If I run from terminal xfce4-display-settings I get "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" and with "gdb xfce4-display-settings" the output says "Reading symbols from xfce4-display-settings...(no debugging symbols found)...done."
What I'm thinking of is a missing dep. Since upgraded to 4.12 I also have a problem with Docky which displays a horizontal black line with shadow on my screen. I don't know if it's related, but this is the output when I run Docky from terminal: http://pastebin.com/cT5XNvWU
Before upgrading to 4.12, for some months, I had issues with xrandr which didn't detect my  laptop screen resolution (full hd) and I had to manually add a profile that fits my normal resolution, otherwise I would had a resolution of 640x480px (this one is shown right now in my nVidia settings in "X Screen Information" section). I don't know if it's related, but I'm just saying.
I'm using bumblebee for my nvidia card & xf86-video-intel for my integrated graphics card. Yeah, I have hybrid graphics (Asus laptop).
    General info:
    - arch x86_64
    - kernel 3.18.6-1
    - slim display manager (just saw the warning on archwiki that this one has been abandoned)
    - bumblebee & intel driver
    - xfce 4.12
    Anyone facing the same issue?

While not logged in, try renaming ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/display.xml. A new one will be re-created on next login. There may be something in that file creating the crash.

  • When using 2 monitors, Finder always displays on primary monitor even after dragging to 2nd monitor.

How can I set Finder to display to 2nd monitor.  I drag it to the second monitor, but it still display on primary monitor when next opened.

Thank you for your reply. No other program behaves this way, even PhotoShop CS4. It is related to how the program handles OS events.
It is probably a problem with the Windows WM_GETMINMAXINFO and WM_SIZE handlers. My guess is that program stores the maximized size (and it always fills the screen at start-up) and it query to see if it is dragged to a larger screen.
Of course, this theory doesn't address the disappearing program behavior when maximized on the secondary monitor. Since I don't have another OS, I cannot check if it is Vista related or Windows related. Because of the difference in architecture, I'd be surprised if it happened on a Mac, too.

  • 2560 x 1600 at 30 Hz from Mac mini

Can the Mac mini Core2Duo output 2560 x 1600 at 30Hz so I can drive a 30" display at full resolution with a SingleLink connection? If the Mac mini Core2Duo can't, can a Mac mini G4 (with the ATI 9200) do it? Is there something like SwitchResX that works in OS 9, so I can use that 30" at full resolution with SingleLink on an older PowerMac MDD in OS 9 aswell?

I was just able to use SwitchRes X to build a custom timing of 2560 x 1600 at 30Hz on my Intel mini. Hmm. I have no way of actually testing that output, but for what it's worth, it seems to be possible.
I also tried it at 40 Hz. That also seemed to work but the pixel clock went over the 165 MHz DVI speed limit, so I don't know if that timing is valid.

  • Blackberry 8330 icons are gone from display, no menu, nothing. Help

As of 10/10/2011 all my icons are gone from my main display screen EXCEPT Applications (which doesn't open anything if I click on it--in fact I then lose that icon as well) and the Profiles icon.  A hard reset doesn't do anything to fix the problem.

    Hello,
There is no Autoloader to remove from your device...Autoloaders are apps on the PC that load, to the device, a specific OS package. But the Autoloader itself is not resident on the device at all. So, your remedy would most likely to be to use a different AutoLoader for a different OS level and see if that does not display this same problem for you.
You did not reveal the specific OS level you are discussing...please note that if it is anything beyond the presently officially released levels (e.g., a "leak"), then it is not supported and is also against the Ts and Cs of this site to be discussed here.
    Good luck!

  • Disconnecting from external display changes background, disconnect server shares, inactivates desktop icons.

I have a user working on a MacBook Pro, Lion OS X 10.8.2, connected to an external display. When disconnecting from the external display the background picture changes, he can’t open documents saved to desktop, and the connection to the server shares is lost.  Rebooting does not resolve the issue while it is disconnected from the external display.  If he reconnects the MacBook back to the external monitor sometimes he has to reboot to get everything back to normal.  It almost seems like it is logging him into a different account or profile or something like that (please excuse my messy terminology as most of our users are still using PCs).  However if you look at what account is logged in, it is still the same account that he logged in with that morning.  The Mac is not authenticating to the network, just connecting to server shares.  Has anyone experienced this issue before and if so is there a fix for it?

The Mac has a long history of assuming that ANY adapter still present means the display is still present -- you need to remove the adapter as well as the cable, if present.
So my theory articulated above is that the disconnect is not registered correctly. This would mean that the second display is still seen as present. You could check this by invoking:
    System Preferences > Displays ...
and looking for the Arrange pane (shown above) which is ONLY present when multiple displays are attached. More detailed information can be found in About this Mac  > ( More info ) Graphics & Displays ...
... specifically the NAME of each attached display is shown or an indication (no display connected):
