25p and 50p capturing

Hello.
I have been told that I can create a good slow motion effect if I shoot at 50p and capture at 25p. If I do this, then I should be able to capture at 50p and 25p depending on what I want from a shot, but fcp only lets me capture at 25p. I need to know or be confirmed if this is true (for I have no immediate way of trying it out), and what are the consequences of doing it....

To get good slomo in pal we shoot at 50i then load at 50i. this can be converted to 50 frames and replayed at 25p giving a smooth slowmo. I do this as part of an on line and add the film effect to produce 50p frames. They are half the res of 25p frames but look fine even when recorded back to film.
If you can shoot 50p then I guess you just slow the shot down to 50%.

WHY Finalcut does not Import 50i and 50p as AVCHD?
I have an haked GH2 Camera and an Sony CX730. Both record AVCHD as MTS files. I can import in Finalcut X 25p files but FCP would not import 50i and 50p
Files from both cameras.
Can some one tell me why it is so?

@ Work i use 10.5. i tihink it is the actuall version!
i tested to record only one format at one card.
1. i record a film in 50i on each camera
2. that i connect the camera to the mac mini via usb cable
3. i click in fcp the camera import symbol
4. nothing occurs

i take the sd card put it into the cardslot of the mac mini and treis to import via the camera import symbol.
And nothing happens

Preview and image capture don't save imported scanned image

Hi. Both preview and image capture aquire the scanner and displays the image overview. But when proceeding
to scan, the application simply hangs and no image is saved.
Maybe some prefs file is corrupted. Tried removing the com.apple.Preview from ~/Library/Containers, but didn't help....
What to do???

Not sure if this is relevant:
1) TWAIN-BRIDGE is installed otherwise mavericks won't talk to the scanner.
2) recently added an HP printer (no scanner). Shouldn't conflict with the scanner driver, but then again.....

Preview and Image Capture Not Recognising Scanner

Preview and Image capture have stopped recognising my networked Canon MX350 scanner. It seemed to occur after I used PhotoScore to scan some sheet music but that could be coincidence. I deleted the scanner driver and reinstalled it from the Canon website together with the MP Navigator software, and I am now able to scan from MP Navigator but not Image Capture or Preview. I have run Software Update but no updates are available.

Apple's official documentation only provides an information about printing by using this device - scanner is not listed. I would suggest to look for specific drivers on Canon's official webpage.

HT201302 Old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I plug into my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up photos in the camera roll. There were more photos on albums and photo library on the iphone that arent showing up in iphoto and icapture.

I have more pictures that arent on the camera roll there are albums and a photo library full of pictures that I want off of this dang phone. I have tried everything and I cant email them to myself because the service has been cut off of the phone. They are stuck on the phone there is there any way to get them off? Am I missing something.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device. It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
Again, the photo sync is one way.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your old computer?
Not good. You can e-mail the photos from your iphone. You do not need to have phoe service for this. The iphone uses wi-fi. The photos will never be of the original quality, as they are reduced when synced to iphone.

It seems to be solved when transcoding the 25p clips to 23,98p (both Canon EOS 5dMKII clips)

Epson scanner and image capture: blank white image

I've been trying to make an epson perfection 1670 scanner work on an iMac running 10.6.4
Since epson no longer specifically supports this model I am going to Image Capture and the epson drivers supplied by Apple. I have downloaded/installed the updated drivers twice (once via software update and once manually from apple support).
I can get image capture to recognize the scanner and perform preview and full scans.
The frustrating thing is that the image generated is completely blank; a white page. I have tried using the scanner and image capture on two other mac's (macBook pro, macBook) both running 10.6.4 and both of these produce the same white page (although they do recognize the scanner).
I thought the scanner may have finally broken so i tested it on another (old) iMac G3 running os x 10.4.11 and epson's scanning utility; it worked fine and made a nice scan.
I have tried to get epson's scanning utility to work under 10.6.4 by reinstalling it; I can get it to startup and run the scanner but it too produces a blank white image!
I conclude there is some basic software incompatibility between the drivers and os x 10.6.4. Its odd that the drivers and image capture can run the scanner but cannot send an image to the computer.
The epson driver in the latest apple update is version 5.2.5 (Copyright 2003 ???) while the latest driver on the epson site (for image capture) is 5.3. Tried to download the epson driver and got file not found (*!%#?&).

I had the same problem with my Epson 1260 scanner. The "updated" drivers provided by both Apple and Epson produced the exact same result - blank white pages, or if anything showed up at all, it would be all chopped up and skewed, like it had gone through a shredder. Trying to adjust the brightness and other slider settings made no difference.
After wrestling with it for a week, I finally found a solution. First make sure Rosetta is installed. Use the old PowerPC Epson TWAIN driver from 2003; with the filename EPSON TWAIN 5.ds. Put it in the folder /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/.
Then, don't use Image Capture. Download Graphic Converter. Set it to open in Rosetta mode. Then you can use Graphic Converter's File -> Acquire -> TWAIN Acquire... menu command to scan using the old EPSON TWAIN driver.

I filmed my video in 25p and edited it in 30p.. any way to easily fix this?

I have spent countless hours editing a video at 1080 HD 30p... and just now realized I filmed the clips at 25p. I am trying to find out the best solution and see if it is possible to somehow move everything into a new timeline that is set up as 25p like it should be, but keep all my color corrections and keep everything at the same exact times... If there is no solution my dilemma is do I scratch all of my hardwork and start over, or do I deal with the fact that it's not in 25p..? Is there really a noticable difference?

I'm fairly new to final cut pro. Just been learning it through a few tutorials and by working hands on with it.. two questions for you..
1. so I filmed my clips at 25p, and the project settings I chose were set for 30p. Now, does FCP convert the clips to 30p as I am editing in the timeline, so that the clips in the timeline now are 30p? or does FCP do all of the converting at the end when I am sharing the master file and uploading to youtube? why I am asking is I am wondering if I use your idea of copying and pasting the clips from a 30p project to a 25p project, are my clips going from being 25p to converting to 30p to converting back to 25p? If that makes sense... I'm probably over thinking this. I've spent so much time on this video and it's an extremely important project so if there's shakiness/lower quality that I could have fixed I want to. but starting over would be the biggest waste of time/headache.
2. If FCP IS converting the clips as they are being dropped into the editing timeline.. are the clips that are up in the library/event area of FCP still at the original 25p that I filmed it at?

Scanner And Image Capture Problem

Well, I went a couple weeks ok with the Scanner and Image Capture. And then kaput, it doesn't work. I thought about it some and it seemed to stop working after I did Software Update on March 17th, 2012. In that update was a "Digital Camera Raw 3.1.0" update. Which makes me very suspicious.
Here is the error I get when I open Image Capture:
So, it recognizes the scanner but can't do anything in Image Capture or the with the scanner buttons.
I ran Software Update again, just to see if there was a new updated scanner driver but nothing came up.
Any ideas? I really want to avoid using the manufacturer's SW drivers etc.

I feel like a complete idiot. It was exactly the lock button. The last time I finished using it, I locked it. I totally forgot about it and I never thought of that being the problem to check.

Simultaneous DV tape recording and FCP capture?

I tired to record a DV tape in a Canon HV 20 while capturing the image to my laptop with FCP, but the process kept aborting and I got a message that the tape had reached its end. I was using the Firewire NTSC preset. I could capture as a non-controllable device, but not while the camcorder was recording.
Is there a workaround to allow me to record to tape and simultaneously capture time-coded DV?

Red Truck is right, this should work for you. Other things to consider...
Have you tried NTSC FireWire Basic...works best with Canon cams.
Are you hitting record on the cam, before Capture Now? Even though you likely won't have matching timecode using non-controllable device, you'll want to have enough 'headroom' recorded on tape.
Does that camera record anything other than DV? If so, make sure your camera setup matches your capture presets.
Make sure you place a check in "Limit Capture Now To:", along with a duration slightly longer than your intended capture. (found in System Settings/Scratch Disk tab)
Also, you say you're recording to your laptop?...is this passing to an external HD?

FMLE and video capture devices

Hi, I have a streaming application that captures camera video
devices and streams using FMS 3.5. Today, I was playing around with
FMLE and it captured the TV cards I have in my computer. I tried my
video object in my Flex app to capture the same TV card that FMLE
captured, but to no avail. Does any one know why the stream from my
TV card is available to FMLE and not to my Flex app video object?

Probably FMLE (whatever that is) has acess to the system in
ways that Flex
doesn't.

Strange black and white capture on DV NTSC camera

Hello,
I am currently using a Canon ZR100 camcorder for a project of mine, and I capture the film with Premiere Pro CS3. It has been capturing correctly in color for a week, and then suddenly, just two days ago, it began capturing in a monochrome/black and white. On the preview window while it is capturing the film, it is black and white, but when I actually have the clip on the timeline of PP, it is in color. When I render the video, it turns back into black and white. This is all very confusing, because the clip turns into color once placed on the PP timeline.
If someone knows what is going on, like a broken firewire or something, please help!

hmm... intersting...
seems that you'll need to somehow mix two streams together.
1. I dont know how mixing works, so mabe someone else might be able to help you (however, you can still look into merging 2 video data sources, as in Manager.createMergingDataSource() )
2. You can transmit 2 streams to 2 different multicast addresses, which is definitely easier, than mixing
3. Careful with multicast, because it's probably working only within your campus area, but not beyond. I was unfortunate to almost fail my project because i used muticast for video streaming, which of course didnt work on public internet.
I hope someone else can give some ideas, plz.

Mixing Full HD 50i and 50P

Hi all,
I have two Sony full HD camcorders: my new one will do 50p whilst my old one with only do 50i (UK Pal for info). Just wondering, if you were doing a multi-camera project would you film in 50i and 50p or both in 50i?
Also, what are the ramifications of editing mixed formats? I'm using Premiere Pro CS6.
