27" cinema display and female mini displayport to HDMI cable.

Hi,
I need to connect my 27" cinema display to an AV amplifier.  In order to do this I need to find a mini displayport cable with a female connector on one end (to plug in to the monitor cable) and a male HDMI connector on the other.
Does anyone know if such a cable exists? and if so where I will find it?
Ideally I would like to do this with just one cable...using adaptors, eg mini displayport to displayport then displayport to hdmi are an option, but not my first choice.
Many Thanks,
Mark

• How to connect a 23" Cinema display and mac mini to an AV Receiver?

I am trying to get my 23" Cinema display and Mac Mini to a Yamaha RX-2700 AV Receiver. I am on first name terms with the guy in Maplins because I tried to get an Xbox 360 working with this display before and gave up in the end.  The AV receiver has upscaling capability so I thought I'd try again.  I tried connecting a HDMI - DVI adapter to the HDMI Out on the receiver and a HMDI to DVI cable from the Mac Mini to the HDMI in with a optical cable for the sound.  The sound works fine but I get no display - the LED on the monitor flashes three times with a blank screen so it can't read the signal.  Another option suggested was to use a VGA Converter connected to a VGA - HDMI cable but I would like to find out if that would work before going down that route?
I am looking for some advice about whether this type of configuation is possible with the 23" ACD and if so what do I need to buy to make it work?  I love the quality of my ACD to avoid having to replace it with a TV to get my multi media life in order.
Many thanks

Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire.

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
Good luck Derek

You can connect the audio from your iMac to your TV using a mini jack (like headphones plug) to rca (regular red and white audio connectors used on every TV,DVD, etc) cable.
On your TV, you need to be able to set the audio for the HDMI input you will use to "analog" and connect the rca end of the cable to the analog inputs on your TV.

• Using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable

Using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable from a 2010 MacBook Air is playing up, making it practically unusable. Essentially what happens is that when connecting a television set using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable the picture is perfect but no longer than 30 seconds at a time before the picture 'goes to sleep'. Is there a setting I need to change? There must be a setting that I can change which I haven't worked out yet. Thanks in advance for your help

has there been an answer to this yet?

• Switching between Dell 4K display and Apple Mini DisplayPort To Dual-Link DVI Adapter

Hi All,
I've recently upgraded my home setup to a Dell 4K display (Dell P2815Q), which since the 10.9.3 update work as expected.
However the downside is that my office setup uses a Mini displayport to Dual-Link DVI adapter (Firmware version 1.03) and a Dell 30" display (2560x1600), which will not work without a reboot after using the 4K display. If I use the 4K display after using the Dual-Link DVI adapter it works fine.
Is this a know issue ? If not, I'm happy to provide some more diagnostic information to help resolve the issue.

http://www.everymac.com/ says:
*This model supports a simultaneous maximum resolution up to 2560x1600 on two external displays via Thunderbolt. Alternately, it can support a single display up to 2560x1600 via Thunderbolt and a single 1080p display at up to 60 Hz, 3840x2160 at 30 Hz, or 4096x2160 at 24 Hz via HDMI.
DVI is not mentioned at all.  You probably need to connect to the display via HDMI to get the 4096x2160 resolution.

• Can i use the HDMI port and the Mini displayport to HDMI adapter simultaneously to switch between two displays?

I just bought a new Mac Mini and was hoping that i can connect my TV via the HDMI port and also connect a 19" monitor via the Minidispaly port to HDMI adapter or the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter. This way i can pick between having the screen mirrored to my tv, or having the screen displayed at my desk.
Is this possible?

Yes. Note the resolution via HDM is limited to
This model simultaneously supports 1920x1200 on an HDMI or a DVI display (using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter) and2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with an optional Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter, which is compatible with the Thunderbolt port).

• Dr. Bott Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable doesn't work.

I'm trying to connect my MacBook (mid 2010) with my tv and I can't get it working properly. I have the HDMI cable, and the mini display port to the HDMI cable. When I connect the computer to the tv, the computer screen turns light blue like it is about to synchronize, but the tv screen remains black. After a moment, 2 boxes appear on my tv screen. One says "HDMI1: and  the other "no signal detected".
I've tried with "detect displays", I've tried connecting to all the HDMI ports I have on my TV, I've tried basically everything but it still doesn't work.
This is the adapter - http://www.drbott.net/product/7395-MDPA/
My TV is a fairly new Samsung, and everything else is working fine, I don't know why this won't function. It's frustrating me.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When I have this problem, it is because my Macbook Pro is using "Integrated" graphics vs the "Descrete" graphics.  I control this via the gfxCardStatus menubar utility.
You could also try reseting the smc controller

and/or resetting the PRAM

That exhausts my ideas.

• Connecting HDTV with mini displayport with HDMI cable dos'nt work

MacBook pro 15" mid 2010 when connected is nothing to see on HDTV. Could you give me some advice? thank you

Did you look at System Preferences>Displays?  Does the category 'Arrangement' appear?  Did you click on 'Detect Displays'?
Have you examined the instructions that came with your TV?  There should be settings for  an external PC/computer.
Ciao.

• Macbook Pro Mini Displayport to HDMI problem Please Help!

I just bought a new Macbook Pro Core i7 15" and have it connected to a Samsung P2370HD via a Kanex Mini Displayport to HDMI cable. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and have the resolution @ 1080p via system preferences and the "underscan" feathered a bit... (which I do not understand why I have to do this since I'm outputting at 1080p and the monitor accepts full 1080p as well. Can someone explain this?) however, small text is grainy, some larger bold text has a white wash behind it. Most things seem to have a slight blur as if there is a screen zoom happening just slightly. As described in this similar post I found.
My old setup was a late 2007 Macbook Pro 15" 10.6.3 connected to the same monitor I have now via Dual-Link DVI and it was crystal clear... It's hard to believe that the issue lies with Samsung, I've tried the same setup on my Sony Bravia in the living room, being that it's a much larger tv...I can't notice the artifacts as much but they are still present. Something is off.
My only other option I feel is to try a Mini Displayport to Dual-Link DVI but I chose the HDMI route for it's standardization and when I go to meetings/projections it's convenient to have one cable. Yes, I've checked cables, restarted everything ect... Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance!

Switched to a Mini Displayport to DVI cable and it works flawlessly. Still no idea, why the hdmi cable does not work properly.

• Mini displayport to HDMI = fine. Mini displayport to VGA = terrible on late 2011 MacBook Pro. Any ideas?

Hello,
I have a late 2011 unibody MacBook Pro. It has a real problem displaying through a projector or tv using mini displayport to VGA. I connect it to my tv at home with a mini displayport to HDMI cable and it works fine. If I have to connect through a VGA adapter/cable to a tv or projector for work the image always looks like the contrast has been turned right up and it looks awful. I have tried creating a profile, calibrating the secondary display and adjusting gamma settings but it doesn't make any difference.
If I plug my old black MacBook into the same projector/tv using VGA it works fine so I now have to take 2 laptops to work which is ridiculous. I thought it might be the adapter itself but at a recent event a colleage experienced exactly the same problem with his identical set up so I thought it might be something to do with the projectors set up at the event but I recently tried connecting to a projector at a different event and got the same results and now I'm confused. I guess it must have something to do with the adapter but not sure what.
Any help much appreciated.

You really have to mess with the resoluton, espescially the refresh rate, as it varies from projector to projector, monitor to monitor. Even within the same brand! Because so many manufacturers are trying so many different things to become the next cool kid on the block, and the way the formats are being configured that's now part of the game.
That's why so many professionally produced corporate shows hire a dedicated projectionist for the video presentations. Too many bugs in the honey.
Refresh & sesolution are the first things to look at.
Just so you know that colors in PowerPoint PC, and PowerPoint Mac, don't exactly match... go figure.
I forgot to mention another thing, sometimes it's the projector that needs to be tweaked.

• MacBook Pro 13" mid 2010 model (7.1): Mini Displayport to HDMI , no Sound

I bought my MacBook Pro on October 2010.
Also, in the SystemProfiler I can see that the "Audio Built-in" has HDMI in the list. And my macBook Version is 7.1 and am having OSX 10.6.7
I recently bought Sony Bravia KDL-40EX720 LED HDTV. And tried connecting the Display using a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI. The Video works fine but cant get audio working. Also, the SystemPreference->Sound->Output has only Internal Audio in there.
Today I even tried with my office LCD HDTV from Samsung and Toshiba. Got the same result .. no Sound.
Where as my Father's MacBook Pro 13" which he got a couple of months earlier than mine got both Video/Audio working on his Panasonic Plasma TV. He is also using the same MiniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter I am using. But as I live some thousands miles away from home i can't check by connecting the Panasonic with my MacBookPro.
I have been looking out the forums and post all over the internet for any solution or relief but none so far. I still haven't had a clue if its the TV or the MacBook thats having this audio via HDMI issue.
Any, suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Sapam

I have the same MBP Version 7.1 that you have and it also states in the System Profiler HDMI Display port
Output: Connection : Display. Now what that means, im not sure.
But i have also connected an HDMI cable via an adapter made by iWires Tech Link purchased at the Apple store and have the same problem as you, only video with no sound from the TV.
I've looked at the settings that eww has suggested in System Preferences > Sound > Output tab and their is no options available for HDMI out, or Display Audio or anything else for that matter, except built in speakers, and Audio port for sound output.
Which lead me to use the Audio port to send the sound out via an amp and speaker system independent to the TV.
Thats why i researched for the other adapters which send out the sound and the audio through the same adapter.

• Mini Displayport to HDMI doesn't work!

Hi 2 all!
I bought a Mini Displayport to HDMI cable (Manufacturer Artwizz) a few weeks ago and last week I have received the new Macbook Pro 13''.
I tried to connect the Macbook with my LCD TV and Beamer through this cable but both didn't work! After having connected the cable, there was just a blue screen for one second on the macbook, and the TV/Beamer just recognized that I have put in a HDMI cable. But there has nothing been transferred to the TV screen.
Do I have to change anything in the settings on my Macbook or what can I do that the connection works?
Thanks, Dario

Then unless there's some newer/different setup in 2011 13" MBP (if so, I'd look in Displays), it sounds like a hardware issue, either with the cable or the MBP.
I would contact AppleCare, as you are still in your three month free phone support, and one year hardware warranty.

• Mini displayport to HDMI (audio compatible)

Bought mini displayport to HDMI cable to connect new imac (21.5" i3) to tv (SONY bravia). It says it is audio compatable but its not sending audio, video works fine though. Any ideas?
Thanks

all hdmi cables will support audio what you need to fins out is if your mbp will output audio from the mdp there are a few ways to find this out easiest is if you bought the computer after april 2010 then it does you just need to get the right adapter this one works with both both video and audio http://store.apple.com/ca/product/H1824ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTgwOTAzMjI have fun
