27'' display inclination arm

I've got a problem with my iMac display. The inclination arm has become too soft so it makes the display to be inclined downward. I cannot keep the inclination I'd like. What should I do? Is there any solution?

Other than prop it up there's nothing you can do. Make an appointment and take it in for service.

23" HD Display stand arm mounting question

The back of my 23" HD Cinema Display has just a bar on it. So my articulating arm Vesa plate with 4 screws doesn't work.
I guess I need a different type of plate or something.
Can someone please direct me to the adapter/plate I need to use. Or do I need to use a specific type of arm?

Conflicting information about external display resolution - please help!

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) with the non-reflective screen, Mini Display Port and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Graphics processor.
According to these technical specifications (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP544), the built-in NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Graphics processor supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display.
Armed with this information, I just purchased a shiny, new DELL U2711 (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&sku= 224-8284&redirect=1) external display which has a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Unfortunately, all I can get out of it is 1920 x 1080 (This is the maximum resolution I can select in the monitors system preferences panel.)
So Apple tells me this graphics card supports 2560 x 1600, but I also contacted NVIDIA directly who told me that this particular card's maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080.
Somebody has to be wrong. Is this monitor supported? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to send this monitor back and buy a smaller display?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well - seeing as nobody could provide any help on this, I'll post the answer in case anybody else has the same problem.
It turns out that the monitor's resolution IS supported by the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, so the information NVIDIA gave me was wrong.
The issue was the adaptor.
A regular Mini Display > DVI adaptor can only handle a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Turns out I needed a Mini Display > DUAL LINK DVI Adapter, which is a combination of USB and DVI which provides the required resolution of 2560 x 1600.

Articulating Arm for 30" Cinema Display

Has anyone had any luck finding a good articulating arm (desk mount or wall mount) that can handle the weight and that is VESA compliant. The base that comes with the display just eats away too much of my surface area. I bought the VESA Mount Adapter, but am very confused regarding the mounting arms.

Display of inclined component using swings

I have a requirement to display components using swings.
Now I am using Gridbaglayout manager to display a rectangle component.
If the component is circle or slightly inclined rectangle where I have given inclined angle (say x degree) and orientation(+/-), how will I display the components?
For this case, I need a way where I can splitup the tilted object into parts and drag some other components(say JTextField) on to it.
Using AffineTransform class where the dragging of components over the tilted is not possible.
Is there any other way to make both tilting and drag of components on to it?

Need to get a bracket/arm combo for a 30" Display. . .

I've decided to get a 30" and instead of setting it on my desk I'd rather have it swing out from a corner beam in my office (I know it'll support it). I'd also like to be able to raise it slightly higher and left and right for presentations. I don't think I'll flip it to portrait size but I know the monitor will do that as well.
My Apple Store sells the (bracket? the thing that drills into the beam) but they either don't sell the arms or don't manufacture them. Does anyone do this or do they have any recommendations or suggestions of where to look?

Need source: mounting arms or posts for tiled arrays of 30" cinema displays

I'm looking for a source for a multi-panel (tiled-array) mounting system for 30" cinema displays.
I can get the VESA mounting plates from Apple. What's hard to find is a multiple-panel arm or post and bracket system that can handle the size and weight of 4 to 8 monitors. The 30" cinema display weighs 27.5 lbs. So in total, roughly 100 to 200 pounds for a 2X2 or 2X4 tiled array.
I know other groups have ended up making their own. I see many systems on the web for this number of displays - but none thus far that can handle both the size and weight.
Any recommendations pro or con would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to find a dual-display mount that can handle the 30", so you could get two or four of those. I haven't been able to find a quad or eight-screen mount that can handle the weight of the 30" Cinemas.

Risers or Arms for Cinema Displays?

I was recently able to alleviate a ton of neck pain by raising my cinema display (23" older acrylic model) to a greater height, and was wondering if anyone else was using lcd arms or monitor risers successfully with their cinema displays. Since I use Word heavily, I noticed that nearly 90% of the time my eyes are focused on the bottom half of the display, so right now i've got my display propped up on three 12-pack soda can boxes. Outside of Word use, I have to raise my neck a little now to see the entire screen, but its still much better than having to keep your neck pinched at a downward angle.

Display of inclined rectangle

The requirement is to diplay a inclined rectangle.
In that inclined rectangle i should be able to drag some other components (say JTextField) on to it.
Already tried using AffineTransform class which has rotate method but the dragging of JTextField is not possible on rotated graphich object.
Is there any way where displaying of inclined rectangle and dragging of components on it is possible?

Imac Screen Inclination

One of my IMacs has a problem keeping the inclination of the display. This means that I cannot keep it at the correct angle and I have to position something behind the display to keep it at the right angle. Has anyone got a solution for this?

One cure for the drooping display would be to have the chrome arm replaced
with a new or refurbished one, there are friction parts inside the flex joints of
these chrome arms and they wear out. Some years ago, a company offered
repair replacement friction plates for these in a kit, but I have not seen them
in about three years. They are not really user-servicable; but you could use a loop
of heavy elastic and try to make an external support tensioner; or
maybe a piece of sheet rubber, cut carefully and maybe superglued back to
itself, to hold the part you'd make to itself and ride along the back of the
chrome arm like a rubber spring.
There still may be some third-party aftermarket kit to replace those internal
arm parts, but I haven't seen them. The chrome arm (often includes the wire
harness) requires a skilled technician to properly install; or a skilled and detail
oriented person with great attention to detail and a tech service manual.
[The machine would require significant tear-down to remove the
chrome arm from the inside, a major dissection and reassembly.
And if the wires are also replaced, the display would need to be
taken apart to facilitiate attaching wires to the LCD.]

Mac Book Pro constantly displays spinning wheel of death HELP!!!

My Mac Book Pro (after installing Mavericks) displays the spinning wheel of death multiple times per day. I thought it was my Google Chrome, but now it has been happening no matter what application I am using. I used Etrecheck to see what is going on with my computer, but I don't actually know what the output means. I've copied the information below.
More information: I no longer have a Blackberry, but I don't know how to remove any software that may still be on my computer (since I see Blackberry listed under Kernel Extensions). I also backed up my harddrive on the 28th, just to be safe.
I would greatly appreciate any and all help with this. I'm in the process of trying to study for mulitple teacher certification exams, so this is the worst possible time for tmy computer to suddenly go haywire. Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to help!

yes, it could be due to nearly anything listed in your kernel extensions, startup items, launch daemons, launch agents, or user items above. Please check all of your installed third-party software to make sure that the versions which are installed on your MacBook Pro are compatible with Mavericks; uninstall every software package which isn’t Mavericks-compatible. After you’ve done that, boot into Safe mode, and see if you still get the beach ball of doom there. If it doesn’t appear there, restart normally and see if it appears then.

Macbook crash on sleep after disconnection from cinema display

Hello,
I bought a black macbook core 2 duo a few months back as a replacement for a 1.5 GHz 12" powerbook G4, and I'm beginning to wonder if I made a terrible mistake as the Macbook frequently crashes on sleep which has caused a major disruption to the way I use my computer.
My work pattern involves pulling the computer out of its bag and opening it for between a few minutes and a couple of hours, before putting it back to sleep by closing it and shoving it back in its bag again, usually in a hurry, and usually several times each day. If I'm working at my desk, I pull it out of its bag, plug a keyboard, mouse and cinema display into it before waking it in lid-closed mode via the keyboard or mouse. I later sleep it via the power key, before immediately disconnecting the cables and putting it back in its bag.
The powerbook used to cope with this admirably, sometimes for two months at a stretch between restarts, and always with many applications and windows open. I had learned to expect that when I open the lid of my computer everything is there just as I left it, and more importantly that I didn't need to worry about saving everything before closing the lid.
The Macbook frequently crashes on sleep (regardless of whether I close the lid, use the key or menu or leave it until it sleeps itself), and have I narrowed it down to something that usually happens on one of the first few sleeps after I disconnect the cinema display. The macbook's backlight goes out on sleep but the display does not switch off (it can be seen, frozen as it was, if a light is shone on the display) nor the hard disk spin down, and the only response of any sort I can get is I can switch the white LED on and off by opening and closing the lid. This behaviour has always been the same regardless of whether safe sleep is enabled or not, although I have disabled safe sleep as I do not have the time or inclination to sit around waiting for 15 seconds for the disk to stop spinning each time I close the lid.
My question is, is there something wrong with my computer or is this normal for Macbooks where an external display is used? And if it is normal for macbooks is it something that is likely to resolve itself with future MacOs or firmware updates, or is it more fundamental than that?

It is hard to suggest something to do in this case, since intermittent issues are really difficult to diagnose. If I were you, I might try doing an Archive and Install from the install dvd that came with your macbook, as well as verifying the drive using Disk Utility on the install dvd. These are just suggestions and I don't know if they will change anything, but at least Apple may get more info out of knowing these were done to try and resolve the issue. If Archiving and Installing doesn't fix the problem (an OS software problem) and disk utility doesn't report any problems, it most likely warrants a trip to Apple. You definitely shouldn't have to put up with worrying about whether your computer will work or not every time you close the lid.

MBP working very slow, rarely displays working wheel

I have taken off AVG, and in my user account I've stopped Soundflower from launching automatically. This seemed to help for a few days, then it's back to dragging.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. 3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:

5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press thereturn key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press returnthree times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

My iPad mini won't work at room temperature. I have to warm it up in my hands/arms for 2-3 minutes before the screen works correctly. Anyone else have this issue or know a solution?

Two or three weeks ago, I had a cracked screen replaced on my iPad Mini 2 with retina display (32G). It worked perfectly for 2-3 weeks, so I don't know how relevant the screen repair is. Anyway, the iPad is currently running iOS 8.1.3. I completely reset it because I want to sell it, but recently, the screen display started to have issues. One afternoon I turned it on and the screen was a faint gray with vertical streaks that went away after I turned it off then back on. That night, the screen would stay black when I tried to turn it on. It was a different black to being off, though. When I try to turn it on it changes to a brighter black, if that makes sense. I can see a change in the shade of black, but there's no color or app icons. The sound works even when the screen doesn't. The only way I can get it to turn on properly is if I hold it in my hands/arms for 2-3 minutes. I think the heat from my hands has something to do with it. It's just weird that regular room temperature seems to be too cold. We've had a cold winter in NY this year and my iPad may have spent 1-2 hours in my cold car the day this happened, but I can't say for sure. Has anyone else heard of this issue or does anyone have a solution?

In my situation, the screen simply started exhibiting the same symptoms a few weeks ago (early February) for no apparent reason. At first I thought the screen was dead, but discovered the heat solution by accident. Now I turn it on and keep it from going to sleep until I go to bed. Thank goodness the battery is still awesome on this thing.
I bought it new and still has the original screen, I keep it at home (never below 62 degrees). Coincidentally, this happened a day or two after the expiration of the warranty!! Any help figuring this one out would be eternally appreciated.
