27" I7 Imac Screen occasionally flickering

Hi,
I have a 3 month old IMAC 27" I7.
Occasionally I notice when in safari with large areas of white screen the screen appears to be flickering.
I have just updated to the new 10.6.7 hoping that may fix it but still it flickers occasionally.
I just closed safari down and re opened it a minute ago and the screen stopped flickering. But it will only happen again at some time.
Is there anything else I can check for?

Hi m:
Contact Apple with a warranty issue. That appears to be hardware related (to me).

  • Pixelated Line Across iMac screen, occasional...

My iMac is 4.5 years old and works great except for a pesky horizontal pixelated line across the screen. I have seen it towards to the top, and now lately, it's moved instead toward the bottom of the screen.  It will usually 'attach' itself to a particular open window, not necessarily to my Desktop. It happens with a Browser windown, or an email, or any application, really.
Is this a sign of anything other than age of the machine? Does this indicate trouble I don't realize?
I have had this issue for months. It's occasional and more of an annoyance than anything disruptive to me.

These appear on all windows I open.  I took a screen shot using grab and the very definite gray line doesn't appear.
Excellent work, the Screen Grab grabs it from the Video card, so the prlem is after/outside of that.
Could be the Internal Video cable, or the LCD itself.

  • Imac screen flickering

So everyone now and then my iMac screen begins flickering at the bottom in and around the dock. It is noticeable enough to be annoying. Also with the new neon colors on the Apple site it goes crazy showing a bunch noise in the colors of the page. Is there a fix for this without me having to go the Apple store.

  • Occasionally flickering iMac screen after installing Yosemite

Occasionally flickering iMac ()intel) screen after installing Yosemite. Cannot yet specify when the flickering occurs, but it cover large sections of the screen. Absolutely annoying.

I also have this issue but only below 6 screen illumination steps (bars)
This flickering issue is active after waking up from sleep os screen sleep and if I increase the screen light to a setting higher than 6 screen step for a wile (30 seconds or so) and the reduce the light to a level below 6 steps it usually holds on without flickering.
This happens on an late 2009 iMac with nvidia card running OS X 10.10 and apple later upgrades but  not (until now) on another same age and OS X version iMac I have but instead of the nvidia card it has an ATI
    Question:
Has anyone tried to use the Mavericks nvidia graphic card driver with Yosemite?

  • IMac screen has been flickering, does anyone know the problem?, iMac screen has been flickering, does anyone know the problem?

Recently my iMac screen has started to flickering does anyone know the problem?
    Any help appreciated

Bad power, unshielded speakers, improper hardware installs which lead to loose cables, can all cause this.

  • Windows 8.1 update - S440 ThinkPad black screen with flickering cursor.

    Hello,
Sorry if this is answered elsewhere.
I have an S440. I've had it for one week. Two days ago I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store. Since then, when I start up the computer, it doesn't even taken me to the 'sign in' screen. There's just a black screen. When I move the cursor, it briefly appears, flickers, then disappears again.
I understand this is an issue with the graphics drivers. So I ran Windows in safemode and disabled Intel R HD Graphics family and AMD Radeon HD  8600 series graphics drivers.
This, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the problem. It still boots to a black screen with an occasionally flickering cursor. I'm currently running in safemode.
    Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hi
I also have an S440 and have tried 3 times to update laptop without success including updating all drivers and updates inc those from Lenovo.
Is there a fix for this? Is this an AMD issue?
My laptop is also very new and cannot believe it is incompatible with windows 8.1.
Tried the compatibility checker with Windows 8.1and it didn't report any problems.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/upgrade-assistant-download-online-faq
Is there anything that can be done to get this working?

  • How to i fix a flicker on my iMac screen?

My imac screen has just started flickering. I have researched it and it already a promblem with other mac's. How is this problem fixed? Thanks

You could reset the pram and smc to see if that helps. I would however suggest if the machine is within waranty you contact your local Apple store as this sounds like  a hardware fault to be honest.

  • 24" iMac freezing occasionally/Please Help

24" iMac freezing occasionally without allowing force quit. Sometimes when I attempt to restart it, when the computer comes back on it will freeze on a gray screen with a folder in the middle with a question mark on it. If I unplug all peripherals and the iMac power cord and let it sit for a while, it starts working again Sometimes I might get 4 days of use before it happens again.  Then sometimes it might happen 2 or 3 times in a day.  I've always heard the gray screen with foler with question mark was the mark of death for the hard drive.  If this information is true, how am I able to get it to work occasionally with no porblems?
    Thanks,
    34firefighter

I found out what was happening... I was running screen dimming software called 'Shades' which was messing up the colour profile allocation. I stopped this software running and I was able to recalibrate! I'm so pleased as I thought there was something wrong with my graphics card!

  • 2010 27in imac screen failure

my 2010 27 in imac screen has failed, right half of screen grey shadow, dark, i note that this has been a problem in the past, seems that apple ireland are not concerned? any opinions or suggestions? seems that there are major reliability issues with imac
extremely disappointed with product and apple support.

Your are missing the point. Yes, there will be the occasional Mac that has a display failure.. Yes, there will be a number of LCD displays that fail out of the millions of Macs that are assembled with LCD displays. And yes, techs will be seeing those occasional display failures over the wide array of Mac models upon which they work. But there are a number of companies that make LCD displays for Apple with the various Mac models that exist. And sometimes there are different companies making the displays for the same Mac model. These are the random, occasional display failures that can be expected with every computer manufacturer who assembles massive numbers of computers; Apple, Toshiba, Dell, Sony and on and on.
But the point is that the link that I gave you points to a consistent mass failure of displays on the same iMac model, assembled in the same factory, over the same time period with displays from the same manufacturer. That doesn't exist for your iMac. If it did we would see folks posting about it here in large numbers, just as we did back in 2006 and 2007, which we are not.

  • IMac Screen Brightens Randomly

My iMac has the screen set to maximum brightness in the system preferences.
In the past few days, I have noticed that the screen occasionally gets brighter. This is a very fast increase in the brightness of the display - definitely enough to be noticable as it distracts me when it happens.
I would says it happens 5-10 times a day now, and it definitely did not used to happen, it's a recent thing. At all times, System Preferences shows maximum brightness chosen for the display.
This is NOT the auto-reduce-screen-brightness feature of Energy Saver. It doesn't happen when I use the computer after a few minutes of inactivity - it happens right when I'm in the middle of typing/surfing whatever.
There is no corresponding screen dimming. It's as if the screen very gradually dims by a small amount over an hour or so, then suddenly returns to max brightness.
Is this a hardware problem? Or could it be affected by video drivers or some other software issue?

I have been having this same issue i have tried many times to turn off the auto adjust brightness but the issue still occurs, this happens when you have your brightness at maximum or in the middle, it just seems to happen and as you said it is very distracting! Someone please help...  This is happening on my 2011 iMac 27"

  • IMac screen goes intermittently blank in Safari

My iMac 24-inch screen occasionally goes black for a second or so in Safari. Can't reproduce the issue using other apps, such as Quark, Pages, etc. I've tried changing the parameters of Screen Saver, but it seems to make no difference. Anyone experienced this, and have a solution?

Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
Make sure your software us up to date. Click the Apple  menu (top left in your screen) then click:  Software Update ...
Might be an incompatible Safari add on.

  • Why does my iMac screen turn mauve?

Occasionally my iMac screen turns a mauve colour. I have also noted that since updating to 10.10 the screen does not wake up after the system has been put to sleep. I know the system wakes up because I can hear my LaCie drive start up. What could be causing these things to occur?

    Hi, Papa_Tech.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your Mac fails to wake from sleep.  Here is a troubleshooting article that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.

  • Imac screen went dark after power interruption any suggestions?

My son's imac screen went dark after a power interupption (someone turning the computer off by pulling cord out of electric socket) and I can't get it to go back on.  I've already tried depressing the "command, alt,p and r" keys to get a restart, and while it did restart, still no picture on the screen.  Occasionally you can see white staticy lines, but mostly it is just dark.   I've seen the suggestions to update software and back up data but that isn't possible as far as I can tell because I can't see anything on the screen - it is totally dark!  Any suggestions?  He is coming home from a trip today and hasn't had any access to computer for some time - he is going to freak

First try iMac SMC and PRAM reset, please do each of them 2x. If that does not work then try restarting in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. You did not mention the version of OS X running on the machine, if you are running Snow Leopard then install the Snow Leopard disc in the SuperDrive and restart, when you hear the start up tone hold down the Option key and start from the SL disc and run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions & Repair Disk.

  • My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet".How can I change ip address?

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.
