27" imac (i5) with premiere pro cs 5.5

I'm new to Premiere and guessing should I switch to pruduction premium cs 5.5 or what. I'm thinking of getting the 27" cheapest new imac to run with premiere. Are other editors using this combo and what are your thoughts with it.

I agree. It's amazing how successful Apple has become with it's phone, ipad, and thin note books. I've been using a 2000 PowerBook. The fist notebook with wireless Airport. Also had Firewire, PCI slot, and expansion bay. They was all years before USB2 and Windows didn't have wireless networking. I've been able to use the PCI slot for lots of stuff like the wireless N and USB 2. I've been able to repair it myself.
Now that has all changed. The new MacBook Airs are soldered together so that you have to send it back to have the battery replaced. All but the Mac Pros (desk tops) are this all in one design that is non upgradable. I needed a computer to last more than 3 years, which means I need to be able to repair it myself. The desk top is just more practical fo rme right now.
There was so much discontent with the FCPX that I wasn't comfortable investing too much with Macs. My entire family uses Macs now. It's great for them to have one phone number to call for customer support. I'm sure they don't know what RAM is. However, any big company like Apple or Adobe is going to discontiue any product that isn't profitable. Apple risk losing this base that has been very loyal. Not sure what they will do but FCPX can be run on the MacBook Pros, iMacs etc, so they are not developing any software that requires the Mac Pro.
They will probably mak a ton of money off FCPX. Maybe it would have been good for me. However I can always pick up a Macbook and FCPX if I need one. I got the education discount for Adobe so I'm going with Adobe on Windows. Kind of like Apple has everything under one tent, Adobe suit also has everything under one tent for creative applicaitons. So far Windows 7 has exceeded my expectations. Both OSX and Windows 7 are very good. Apple offers 3 hardware desk top computers starting a 3k, Windows has more than three desk top hardware options.

  • Laptop editing with Premiere Pro CS4: what are the most important specs

Laptop Editing: What are the MOST important specs?
Hello everybody, I have been a long time lurker, but I decided to join in and share my voice.
I've been editing, for a while now, various projects of various lenghts shot on my HV20, on an IMac using Adobe Premiere Pro. Actually, I bought the CS4 Extended Production Suite last year  thinking that it made sense to be able to edit, do the coloring and effects+ sound all within the same suite.
AND, it came with OnLocation, wich is, I think, a fantastic tool. I really want to be able to record and monitor my future shoots using OnLocation. I've seen how useful monitors and scopes are on set, and the idea of being able to shoot in HD and actually checking the focus on something larger than a few inches is very appealling!
So a laptop is in my future. Now, what are the most important specs?
    I could buy 1) a barely used Macbook pro early 08- 17" HD led display ,4g Ram ddr2 ,nvidia 8600M GT 512 VRAM ,800Mhz BUS, 200G 7200HD
and have enough money left to buy an Apple Display 30" refurb
    OR 2) a new Macbook pro 17, 4 g Ram ddr3, 512 VRAm, 4g Ram ddr3, double procsessors 9400M+9600M GT 512 VRAM, 1066 BUS, 500G 7200HD
and wait for a second display!
Plus, of course, a portable External Scratch Drive on the Express Card. Now, if that fast drive is handling the footage, could'nt I settle for a 5400HD in the laptop,, they seem much less prone to problems-clicking noise, heat-than the 7200, especially in the new unibody model. Is 800 versus 1066 BUS a terrible trade-off? In terms of secondary displays , I've heard less than lukewarm things about the new Apple 24 LED (glossy is no-no for me).
My intentions are to make documentaries and short fictions as well. I make a living as an actor so I don't need to be performing as a director/editor business wise!
I do want to explore that side of the craft, in a professional and enjoyable way though. I know that, in addition to the laptop, I will get a MacPro in a few years.
Thanks a lot for the inputs!

Successful video editing (as compared to tear your hair out video editing) requires at least two hard drives... one for all software and one for all data... some people use 3 drives, with data on one and scratch files on the 3rd drive
I'm not sure about software, but everything I've ever read in this forum says 5400 is NOT fast enough for the data drive
If you want to edit video... you have to buy the hardware that works

  • Which iMac upgrades help Premiere Pro most?

I'm looking at getting a new iMac - the 27" with the upgraded processor (i7 3.4GHz). I see I can also bump up the graphics card to one with more memory (Nvidia GeForce GTX 680MX with 2GB of GDDR5 memory) and RAM can go to 32GB.
What I wan to know is, how are the current gen of iMacs for editing, and which of these upgrades will Premiere make the most of? Processor is always good, and the i7 will do hyperthreading (does that help in Premiere Pro?). What will 32GB of RAM do for it, and will the GeForce with 2GB help? Can it offload any processing to the graphics chip?

I have a 2011 iMac with 1gb of VRAM on an unsupported GPU (AMD 6970M) so I can't really tell you how the new one runs although I will be testing it on a friends new iMac in the next week or two. With Premiere Pro CC, you don't need any sort of hack to enable GPU acceleration. It does help speed up moving around your timeline, etc. However, I have some delay issues which I believe are related to my unsupported GPU. The newer iMacs have supported NVIDIA GPUs and my feeling is always, might as well get the best one if you plan to use your computer for editing a lot. A good deal is to get it from Apple refurbished. I was always afraid of refurbished stuff, until I realized Apple's refurbished products are often perfectly working products that are simply returned after a customer has them for a few days. They are thoroughly tested, AND, most importantly, retain the same warranty as a new computer and are Apple Care-eligible. So why not save several hundred? Bumping the RAM up always helps speed up editing and Premiere Pro CC seems to suck the life out of RAM. I go from 16gb to 50MB of RAM within an hour sometimes, depending on what I'm doing. So more is better there too. Here's the link to a good one:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0MS5LL/A/refurbished-imac-34ghz-quad-core-intel-core-i7
I'd bump up your RAM at macsales.com instead of apple which will save you lots as well.
Finally, I think the iMac is going to get a small refresh of sorts in the coming weeks with the latest Haswell processors and maybe a newer GPU. Not a huge update probably but if you wanna buy full price, it might be wise to wait til later this month (that's when rumors point to the refresh).
I know I didn't answer the primary question you were asking but hopefully this info helps should you decide to upgrade anyway.

  • Unable to batch capture with Premiere Pro CC via Kona LHi

AJA's web site claims Premiere Pro CC is compatible with the Kona LHi card, but I can't get the two to work together properly. After repeated tries, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything AJA, but still no luck.
I need to batch capture DV clips from some mini-DV tapes on my Sony MVR035U tape deck.  But I also need to upconvert them from 480i to 720p60 using my Kona Lhi card. I should be able to do this with Premiere Pro CC. But the PPCC Capture window won't give me any audio feedback when I select "AJA Movie Capture" in the Capture Settings pull down menu. I only get audio feedback when I enable "DV capture" but then I'm no longer able to upconvert.
Looking forward to any feedback on this issue. Been tying all day to trouble shoot this problem.

And now with CC June 2014 you can't even capture from HDV, I need to go back to Premiere CC 2013 for that....Adobe might think tape capture is over... but it isn't totally yet...

  • Adobe Story Script integration with Premiere Pro Doesnt allow me to embed the script

Goal:  Embed an Adobe Story Script into Premiere Pro. (mac)
Method:  I have a video with a verbatim transcript.
I inport the transcript into Adobe Story and save it in the proper Adobe Story File extension (.astx)
I save it to the Adobe cloud and I have also exported it to my desktop.
I launch Premiere Pro and import the video that I have transcribed.
The I try one of 3 ways to get the script to the video in PP.
The first steps are the same as below:
I go to Adobe Story and log in from within PP.
    I locate the file.
    I add a Scene.
I make sure the scene is the same as it is within PP
    then...
    1.
I drag and drop it onto the Movie file.
Nothing appears within the Embed Adobe Story Script Meta Data field.
    2.
I click on Analyze and the Embed Adobe Story Script script checkbox remains greyed out (Unable to select it)
If I click Analyze then PP will analyze the script (does a decent job) but this is NOT what I want.  I want to attach the verbatim script to the video which is why I have it transcribed.
    3.
Right click on the movie file within PP and the contextual menu allows me to attach a script.
I locate my downloaded .astx file on my Mac and select it.
Still nothing appears within the Embed Adobe Story Metadata field.
I have worked with Anand from support who suggested I post this question here.
I dont know if there are only certain Adobe templates for which this will work (ie TV script, Film etc)
He suggested that this would most likely work only for the .mov file formats, but then discovered that it should work even for .mp4 files.
In any case - if anyone has any thoughts, ideas, or has experience with this It would be greatly appreciated.

  • I need to reinstall my computer, how do I deal with Premiere pro and After effects?

    Hello,
As my question states I need to reinstall my computer (laptop) and I'm not quite sure on how to deal with Premiere pro and After effects.
I am thinking that I need to do some sort of backup and save my projects and footage on a sepparate drive.
If I reinstall my computer, install my creative suit production premium, and move back all of my projects and footage, won't I have to re-link every single clip?
I am currently workning on several different projects and having to re-link everything is something I don't even want to think about, that would take me days if not weeks.
Another option on my mind would be to use Creative cloud. I do have the free version but I have never used it even once before and I'm not quite sure what the purpose of the cloud is and if this is a way to use it.
I have no idea how to go about this computer reinstalation without either loosing tons of work or having to re-link every single clip used.
I am videoediting only as a hobby so I have no experience working with other people and sharing projects or the like, wich is my understanding of what the cloud is for.
Any and all help would be grealty appreciated, I know this is probably really easy but ever since i got my Suit I haven't reinstalled, upgraded och changed my computer so I am just clueless as to how to go about this.
I have Creative suit production premium, I also have the free Creative cloud.
It is only Premiere pro and After effects that I am using and am worried about.
    Thank you for any help.

If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

  • Is there any way to create a file compatible with Premiere Pro

Is there any way to create a file in Premiere elements that is compatible with Premiere Pro and that can be used in Premiere Pro

    Consternation
The important information that I do not see mentioned nor offered by you.
1.What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system it is running? What version of Premiere Pro do you want to use?
The Premiere Pro Import Supported Formats seem to indicate that it will accept the Premiere Elements project.prel (project file) on Windows Only.
Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Supported file formats
This may or may not be possible depending on damaged projects or outdated elements.
    2. If you want to export your Premiere Elements Timeline to a file saved to the computer hard drive and subsequently import that into your Premiere Pro version, that "should" work. You would go to the Premiere Elements Publish+Share/Computer/ and make a selection based on what the Premiere Pro Import Supported file formats are and what you need. I can help you with that. But, details first.
But, just a "beware"...when you get to Premiere Elements 11 or 12 (if that is the version involved) Publish+Share/Computer/ there are several categories, but all you see is Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, and AVCHD. The rest of the list that includes AVI and QuickTime which both need to be scrolled to all of the time to see them, not just sometimes, with the thin scroll bar to the right of the list of choices. You can export files
with AVI file extension, under Publish+Share/Computer/AVI
with MOV file extension, under Publish + Share/Computer/QuickTime
And, if you do not have QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements, you are not going to have presets for the QuickTime export.
Remember, there is more to an export than just its file extension. Know your other export properties as well.
In many cases, you can customize the export settings to suit your requirements.
Problems will exist if you are trying to go from Premiere Elements Windows to Premiere Pro Mac or vice versa.
I would be glad for the opportunity to help you with this issue, but details are needed.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • Videos export with purple/green artifacts/splotches/flashes with Media Encoder CC but export fine with Premiere Pro CC?

I use Premiere Pro CC to edit videos, and videos render fine when I export through Premiere Pro, but when I try to use Media Encoder CC, the video exports with weird splotches of green/purple artifacts all throughout. It almost looks like the video is glitching and having a seizure of green and purple. No idea why this happens. Could anybody help me? I use Media Encoder to export bulks of videos at a time through its queue feature, which is why I prefer to use Media Encoder for video exporting.
    Please and thanks.

    Mitch,
I was hoping that you and others might have some insight as to whether the purple and green artifacts / splotches seen in the attached screenshots (taken from 4 consecutive frames here but occurring through the entirety of the clip) could possibly have resulted from exporting video with ~ Premiere Pro CS5 or 6 ? As seen below, these splotches alternate back and forth between purple and green in every consecutive frame. I was also hoping that someone might know if this is a relatively common type of artifact and how it is caused.

I have a few questions regarding mini DV decks and Premiere Pro.
First, is there any Mini DV deck on the market right now that will actually NOT be useful with Premiere Pro?
Does anyone have a personal favorite?
Is there anything I should look out for when I'm looking for one?
I know these are very general questions, but I have no clue whatsoever, and the only way to start to get a clue is to ask. If there's anything else I should be aqskingg/looking for, please say so.

I have been testing out the use of my JVC BR-DV3000E DVR (Digital Video Recorder) using a new PC running Windows 7 (64 bit) and Premiere Pro CS5.  The connection is via the firewire cable supplied with the device.  It worked fine on my original PC running Windows XP with Premiere Pro 1.5.1.
When I open the capture window in CS5 it shows the message "Device Offline" at the top of the capture window and all the transport controls are greyed out. I have played around with the settings but nothing seems to overcome the problem.  I am trying to capture miniDV footage in SD.  Has anyone come across this problem before on either the same device or similar and has anyone any suggestion on how to fil the problem please?

Try these to see if they work

  • Adobe Audition CS5.5 with Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello everybody.
I am considering downgrading from Master Collection CS5 to Adobe Production Premium CS5.5
But quite frankly it's just because of one application.
Though, i am in doubt if i'll actually going to make the downgrade.
And as you could and might have guessed it is the Adobe Audition CS5.5 Application.
Though really the whole pack has a GREAT improvement overall, I just actaully want to mix SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro and sound editing application (Audition).
Which leads me to my next question.
Now with Adobe Soundbooth CS5 closed off (by April 24th), and an UPGRADE for Soundbooth CS5 users to Audition CS5. Does this mean that Audition CS5.5 works SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro CS5?
Is there a dynamic link between the two applications? (Audition CS5.5 and Premiere Pro CS5)
AM i able to send mixes between the two? I really don't want to loose any Audio data, such as 5.1 channel mapping, volume mixing, denoising, general mixing etc.
All i really need is some good quality sound editing which works seamless, as After Effects and Premiere Pro has proved to me can be done.
Just want to know if it is possible. Or if I REALLY have to upgrade in order to get the sweet apples.
    Best
    Lucas

    Hi _durin_
    Thanks for your quick response.
But I didn't quite understand your answer.
I have seen Jason Levine's video earlier, as CS5.5 was announced and it looks natively good. I understand the mixdown attributes etc.
Please correct me if im wrong HOWEVER this workflow and settings applies still to ONLY the new CS5.5 Version?
Im currently using Master Collection CS5.
Instead of getting either the Production Premium, or Master Collection I am strongly considering updating Soundbooth CS5 to Audition CS5.5 (the option is there as i can tell by SoundBooth's website, though i get a weird error message when I click the update link...)
However I need to know, IF Audition CS5.5 works well with the PREVIOUS version (that'll be CS5 not 5.5), of Premiere Pro.
Are there an option to render the reference video, and generate a interchange session from WITHIN Premiere Pro CS5 to Audition CS5.5?
Im sorry if I either sound harsh or "willingly" misunderstanding. But I have only documentation on how the integration works between the current versions (meaning 5.5).
Im as you can guess VERY confused over the move from Adobe to make a .5 version instead of a full-fledged CS6 solution. It causes a stir, cause I then don't know much of the integration between the previous applications.
I have seen as an example that Photoshop CS5 have gotten the update to receive paintings/files made with their new touch API. So I wonder whether integrational features will be a part of the CS5 pack since, as i've mentioned, an application like Soundbooth gets replaced with Audition, with an upgrade option for the Soundbooth owners.
Im confused and hope you can help me clear my mind up, whether to upgrade or not. I will download the trial eventually, but not onto my current CS5 system since I already use this in my daily video work and want to AVOID confusion.

  • What's a good HD camera to use with Premiere Pro CS4

I've used Premiere Pro CS4 for a while now and most of the time I don't have any problems, but recently, I've been buying HD cameras, shooting some AVCHD and then having a hell of a time getting them to play nice with Premiere Pro (or WMindows Media Player... or Quicktime... or anything but their crappy bundled software that won't let me edit or anything). My girlfriend says I should give up and buy a Mac and use FCP, but I like Premiere Pro. I'm about to take another camera back to Best Buy and I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for the easiest camera to use with Premiere Pro.
In case you're wondering, I've bought a Canon Vixia HF10 and a Samsung HMX-H100 so far and both had every issue I can think of from codec incompatibility to aspect ratios changing to A/V sync being lost to all-out-I-don't-know-WTF-just-happend-errors. I just want a camera that's going to give me a file I can drop straight into Premiere.

Unless you want a new computer, forget about AVCHD. It requires too much muscle to edit comfortably on anything but the fastest computer.
What camera is nice, depends on your budget. Formats that are easy to edit are HDV, DVCProHD (P2) and XDCAM. In the consumer range you could look at the Canon HV40 or XH-A1s, in the prosumer range look at the Panasonic AG-HPX170, Canon XH-H1s, JVC GY-ND250 or Sony HVR Z5 or Z7 and all Sony XDCAM cameras, especially the EX1 and EX3. In the professional range look at the Sony PDW-F355 or upward.
