27" iMac was stolen, now returned but has been locked what do I do?

My 27' iMac was stolen, now returned but has been locked what do I do? It was purchased in December of 2011, they nust have set up icloud account to lock it. How do I get around this? Apple should have my serial number of this computer matching my account somewhere right?

What do you mean by 'locked'. Is it the admin password that you don't know or did they set a firmware password?

  • I have an iphone 5 that was originally with verizon but has been unlocked now by them and the phone is still under the apple warranty, if I go to replace for power button malfunctioning, will they give replace it with an unlocked phone as well?

I currently have an iphone 5 that was verizon locked but has been unlocked by them because of my contract, the phone is still under the apple warranty but the power button is not working, if it was the case that apple has to replace it with another phone, will they replace with an unlocked phone now?
    thanks

The SIM Lock is stored on the Apple Activation Server - if it has been correctly unlocked by a network then this would have been done on the Activation Server.
When you get your replacement handset through Apple they mirror the activation server details of your existing handset and the current SIM LOCK status is mirror'd onto the new device.
(100% Accurate - done mine 2 weeks before christmas due to original 5 sleep button stopped working)

  • HT5312 I forgot security questions and answers.  Now security section has been locked.

I have not used my I tunes card.  I forgot my security questions and answers.  Now security section of my apple account has been locked.  How can I use my card?

If you've disabled your account then you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it
For your security questions, the HT5312 page that you posted from has instructions for how to reset them i.e. if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then steps 1 to 5 half-way down that page should give you a reset link.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699 (you can also try this link if you can't get your account enabled via the above)
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use

  • My iPhone 5 was stolen and ever since has been showing offline in the 'find my iPhone app' this has been showing since the theft does this mean that they have failed to get into the phone and it has been switched off

My sons iPhone 5 was stolen out of his blazer pocket while in a games lesson, this was last period and on return to get changed find that someone from his class had stolen his phone from his zipped pocket. Straight away I went onto the find my iPhone on my phone and it has been showing offline since the phone was stolen. The phone had a password set on it and I have notified the police, school and also our carrier. The phone has been offline now for 32 hours, would this mean they have been unable to access the phone and switched it off? Is it possible for the phone to be jail broken while this password has been set. I am most angry that this has happened and the changing rooms are always locked while the lessons take place, so this is someone within my sons class that has stolen the phone. Being a Friday And last lesson the phone is long gone now but I'm hoping with the security measures we have put in place with the pass code etc.... That they won't be able to unlock the phone to use it. The phone was only 2 days old as my son had only just upgraded :(

All you may infer is the device hasn't been turned on where it can connect to Wi-Fi.
The phone may be jailbroken if there is no lock passcode to prevent access. However, the phone can be completely erased and restored as new. In this case you will have no ability to locate it or prevent it from being jailbroken.
What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • HT1212 I can not unlock my sons Ipod, and it does not ask for a code, not that he remembers it now.  It has been locked for monthes, and dont know what to do.  Can you help

Trying to unlock my sons ipod and he doesnt know what his password was.  It has been disabled for monthes.  Cant get it reset with itunes apple.  And doesnt even ask for a passcode anyways.  It just isnt doing anything.I have beentrying to unlock it for 2 hrs already

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • HT1316 I have never set a sim pin, now it has been locked what can I do??

My phone has been blocked - locked SIM.
I have never set a SIM pin so I don't know how to unblock??
    Help please

don't think the ios device support sim passcode
if it have somehow been added to your sim card then you can
put it in another phone and set the sim card to not request passcode
or contact your carrier for a new sim card as they like to keep their customers and have
their customers being able to make calls so they make money they rarely charge too much for
    a replacement sim card

  • My iPod Classic was stolen and returned to me by police but now it "cannot be synced because it cannot be written to or read from". I noticed the thief had changed the format to "windows" but I have restored it and still get the same message.

If the media is in the library then yes it is that simple. Connect the device, load it up with your media. The problem is when you try to connect a full device to a new empty library on a new computer when iTunes will offer to replace the content on the device with that in the local library, i.e. nothing! (For anyone in that position see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device).
You should be able to add your devices at https://supportprofile.apple.com/ though I'm not sure what happens if the second hand iPod was previously registered.

My iMac was stolen the receipt doesn't have the serial number but I did register the computer so Aplle must have a record of it. How do I get it.

Go to the Apple website and your support profile. It should list that iMac and the serial number for it. You'll need your Apple ID and password for that Apple ID.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

i have a ipad which has been locked due to the owner claiming it was lost.  I have had the serial no. checked and it is not stolen but I can't use it.  I have talked to the owner many times who refuses to give me the password or has no idea what password was used.

Unfortuinately there is nothing that can be done.
If its locked its locked.  This is a theft deterrant mechanism.
If you could unlock "stolen" ipads then there would be no purpose for the feature.
You will have to convince the owner you bought it correctly, or accept its no lonnger usable by you until the original owner removes the lock.

  • My iMac was stolen...I have the serial #..can i do anything?

My iMac was stolen a while ago, along w/ the iPod touch that was attached to it charging.  Basically someone broke into my apartment while I was out on a Friday night.  No, I didn't have renters insurance (amatuer hour, I know).
So I recently discovered the serial numbers online for these 2 items while I was looking through the Apple support website for another item I own.  I added them to independant 3rd party stolen property databases online, but there are a lot and I feel its not too centralized.
It seems to be common sense that if one must register the serial number, then its possible that these serial numbers popped up when a new person tried to use the computer/ipod...say, like when they try to use iTunes under their new ID or if they for some reason were dumb enough to re-register these serial numbers to themselves.  Is there any way to find this info out?  All I'd want to know is if someone registered these products.  If I knew that, then I could at least let the police know and have them get the info from Apple (because I doubt they'd give it to any joe-shmo) and let them do their thing.

All you can do is provide the serial number to the police and hope that they get lucky and can recover your property. Apple has no system for tracking stolen property, and will not give you any information about whether or not someone else has re-registered the serial number. This is for privacy reasons; they have no way of verifying that an item was indeed stolen (and not just reported as stolen as a prank or by a disgruntled seller) unless Apple is contacted by an authorized law enforcement agency.
Sorry about the loss. Good luck getting it recovered.
    Regards.

  • My iMac was stolen in a robbery - no files via iCloud (long story).  I have a new iMac which is set up and being used - how do I recover old iMac files from what looks like back-up files showing on my Time Capsule (also being used for this new iMac)?

My iMac was stolen - but I think there's a backup on my Time Capsule (which wasn't stolen). I have a new iMac which I've been using normally; I didn't use the 'Restore from...' option at the start because I thought the Time Capsule had nothing on it.  So how do I now recover files from the Time Machine?  I can see various back-ups on the Time Capsule, from various machines - laptops, etc. - but it's not letting me open any of them to see what they contain. Does anyone know how I access this information?

    Use migration assistant.
    See http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html
Although this is only up to Mountain Lion it is still relevant to Mavericks.. only expect Mavericks to kick and buck a lot more.
