Hi
• a cleaning CD/DVD ?
My general (old) list
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
• Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
iDVD updated ?
Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions

  • Not recognising blank dvds

    Hi,
my iMac won't recognise blank dvds at all, it recognises blank cds and my Macbook recognises the same dvds. I'm sure I used it to burn dvds from the same pack before.

    Welcome to Apple discussions.
There have been discussions on this board before that indicate that some have experienced there DVD lens gets dirty or stops functioning.

Mine never stopped working, but I replaced it for speed purposes with a 16x drive for a reasonable price.

  • IMAC SUPERDRIVE EJECTS Blank DVDs

My Imac Superdrive ejects all blank dvd but can read all movie dvd. Is there anyway to fix it ?

Hi i have the iMac mid 2007, and my superdrive have always been noicy. So i bought an external DVD bruner (samsung) works great, so the interna would not break down. Despite my prudence my internal superdrive are broken now. kjhfhf
    Can´t read, can´t write, can´t do nothing.
Several users has hade problems with these drivers, maybe Apple would extend warrent on thise lousy gizmo´s.
Or make the superdrive like a cassette, so just a push on the side of the iMac makes the superdrive "pop out". So you dont have to demolishe the whole computer just to replace it.
Somtime i wish i worked at Apple so i colud show how a knife-grinder sholud be pulled.

Bad Superdrive. You're under warranty, so if you're near an AppleStore, just bring it in for repair, otherwise call Applecare and they will repair via Fed-Ex

  • My Imac G5 spits blank DVD's out...does not let me burn.

Is there an update I can perform for the DVD drive or something I can do to make this work? The computer accepts blank CD-R's and audio CD's and DVD's but I can get blank DVD's to work. The batch of DVD's is one that I have used in the past and have burned many DVD's from so I can't understand why it stops accepting these.
I also tried a different brand of DVD and it does not accept those as well. Please help. Thank you!

Your drive may need cleaning. Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.
Make sure the DVDs are not dirty, scratched and/or smudged. Also make sure they are high quality.

  • Superdrive no longer recognises blank DVDs

Mac and Disk Utility accept MOST CDs (blank, self-burned or commercial), and accept commercial DVDs, but spins then spits out blank DVDs, and claims some CDS (burned on the same Superdrive) have zero content, though it successfully burned a cheapo CD yesterday and opens it fine today
This has come on suddenly, as everything was fine until about a fortnight ago. I've tried DVD blanks for four or five different manufacturers (including DVDs from a bargain-basement spindle which it happily burned to until this - all brands now spun then ejected.
Tried cleaning laser, repairing permissions, logouts & restarts etc. Can't find anything in these or MacFixit forums that helped.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA,
    Bill

You could try posting this in the hardware forums but I'd say your drive is ready for replacement. Is this the original drive? With the low cost (in most cases) of replacement drives these days it sometimes isn't worth a huge amount of effort working with the drive, especially since there really isn't all that much you can do. The variable nature of the issue suggests something is going in the hardware, rather than a software issue. Burned media is usually the hardest for a drive to read and that's what you're seeing.
Pioneer drives are usually compatible with Macs and have replaced many a Superdrive in the G4 forums.

  • Satellite L30 VISTA - DVD drive wont recognise blank and own recorded DVD's

DVD-RW 4x blank discs ignored. When I try to either "burn" from ULead DVD Movie Factory or read a previously "burnt" DVD made on my older Qosmio model, the DVD tray opens (with the disc in it) and with the message "Please insert disc". If the tray is closed again with the same disc still in it, it does exactly the same again.
Commercilly produced DVD's are mostly recognised and played. This problem has existed since the Laptop was purchased. Would appreciate any help.

This Laptop was bought as a back-up and served its purpose for what was wanted at the time. Now it is about to be taken on an extended trip, where all its functionality will be required. I shall try the Nero burning functionality you suggest but the reboot from recovery media (which appears to claim it will reformat all the hard drive) might be a bit extreme for me to handle. I have also now checked the internet and there are quite a number of postings regarding this problem concerning the Mat****a Uj-850S DVD drive in my Laptop. Most suggested solutions concerned editing the Registry. Is there any information on this?

  • My G4 imac wont read a dvd burned on my new mac mini

I burned some pictures on a dvd on my mac mini and when I went to load them on my imac the disc wont show up??? The drive is working as it reads dvds burned on the imac, just not the ones burned on the new mac mini............any ideas? Thanks

You can only use the App Store version to reinstall on your new Mac if you bought Logic via the App Store in the first place.... and then it will appear under the Purchases tab in the Mac App Store App so long as you are signed in using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic via the App store in the first place.
If you bought the DVD edition of Logic Studio then you must initially install using those original DVDs to begin with and then update to the latest version of your version of Logic via software updates.
No DVD drive? Buy an external one.. Amazon do a very cheap basic one that works well..
    or...
Use Remote Disk if you still have your older Mac which has a built in DVD drive...

  • IMac wont load install DVD 10.5 on iMac g4

I have older iMac g4, which i've kept for design-reasons - its nice to look at.
I bought it as demo-model from a dealer when the model just had gone out of production.
    It runs OSX 10.3.9.
    I wanted to upgrade to 10.5, so I bought an original second-hand DVD;
"MAC OS Leopard - Install DVD - Version 10.5 - 2Z691-6037-A" (black-blue color; NOT grey)
It wont load at all. It just runs in the drive for 10 - 15 seconds and then autoejects. Same thing if I restart pressing "c". At no time does the disc appear on the desktop or a start window opens. Just nothing.
The CD drive works ok - can read and burn.
I tried to start the Install DVD in the new iMac and the iBook; both macs can read the dvd and opens the install window.
    What should I do ?

It sounds like a problem with the Mac not being able to read the disc rather than the disc being an upgrade-only edition etc as it won't even read it - do other DVDs (not just CDs, as sometimes a drive will partly die and be able to read CDs but not DVDs, or vice versa) definitely work in the drive?
I think a few of the early iMac G4s came with only a CD-RW drive ie not compatible with DVDs at all, so again testing another DVD will show if you have one of those. If this is the case you could try using Target mode to install using the DVD drive in another Mac, if you don't want to replace/upgrade the drive in the G4.

  • Imac wont recognise optical drive unless repeatedly reset smc at startup.

    Hello all,
having a problem with my mid 2007 2.0ghz imac, in that it refuses to recognise the optical drive unless i repeatedly reset the smc, can anyone offer some advice?
    thanks so much,
    B.

Normally in the iMac the memory and hard drive and battery are the only items considered user serviceable, however, since it is out of warranty anyway, look for Fixit on Google.  They have instructions for many, many repairs you can do on computers.  They may have one for replacing the optical drive yourself, which would cost less than an external drive in a case.  Having a working internal drive is useful if you need a boot drive other than the hard drive.

  • Wont recognise blank CDs for burning - always show as read only.

Just tried using the cd writer function on my macbook, but every blank CDR i put in shows as read only.
I have tried various brands of CDR, all show as read only, so i'm certain its a problem with the Mac as opposed to the cd's im using.
I dont have a superdrive, but bought the macbook because it has a cd/rw drive, which is all i need
Any i deas how to rectify this?

I have this same problem, and I do have an iMac intel. If I reboot, the problem goes away temporarily and that is what I am doing now in order to write CDs.

  • IMac wont recognise keyboard and mouse

    Hi
    I have a strange problem.
When I am trying to start the computer, Leopard does not recognise my keyboard and mouse.
When i press the power button on the machine the optical light on the keyboard comes on, however as soon as the apple logo appears it goes off. The machine boots to the log in screen, however I cannot log in. If I move the mouse to a different port, the light comes back on, however still does not work.
What is really strange is if I boot in bootcamp, the keyboard and mouse work fine.
Both keyboard and mouse are connected directly to the machine.
    Any ideas?

I have the same problem and the same Imac.
Really i don't no what to do.

  • Imac wont boot from DVD

just got my imac back after hard drive replacement, but it will not boot from the dvd? and now I can't get the dvd out?

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.
As for the stuck disc, this is the simplest, from LousyFool's link, if restarting, holding down the mouse doesn't do the tridk.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray. If you have an external drive, e.g. the MacBook Air Superdrive, use "drutil eject external".
