27" Thunderbolt Display doesn't recognise my Apple Keyboard?

Just taken collection of 2x brand new 15” MBP's and 2x brand new 27” Thunderbolt Displays and I’ve nothing but problems with them both on a daily basis. I each display I have a USB mouse plugged in and they function perfectly but the Apple Numeric Keyboard I have in each never seems to work on start up. I’m continually having to unplug and plugin the keyboards, or constantly restart each machine over and over again until the keyboard starts to function. Sometimes I’ve even given up because it just doesn’t want to work. I know there is nothing wrong with the keyboards because if I plug them into the MBP’s - Ta Dah - they function perfectly first time (however doing this  means running cables everywhere)! If the problem was only on one of the Displays I'd have reason to believe it could be something with one of the peripherals, but given its on both machines and with each keyboard I believe it must be a firmware/hardware issue with the displays. It's driving me up the wall - Is anyone else having these issues or can anyone help resolve this issue?
Many thanks
Darren

I've ocassionally had that problem on startup, forcing me to login using the built-in keyboard.  Usually once I get logged in the keyboard starts working again.  Is it the same with you, or does the problem persist after login?

  • Created new Apple ID, redeemed $20 gift card, now Apple doesn't recognise my Apple ID and the $20 Gift Card says it has been redeemed when it has just disappeared into my Apple ID that can't be found. I'm going around in circles trying to find my $20 gift

I was given a $20 iTunes Gift Card for my birthday, I setup a new Apple ID, redeemed my card and now Apple doesn't recognise my Apple ID and the $20 credit has disappeared. I've logged on using my Dad's Apple ID, but where has the $20 Gift Card gone? I try to redeem it again and get message that it has already been redeemed. Not impressed with Apple at all. I've sent 2 emails to their support, no response. I tried calling today and the call centre is closed.
Can anyone help me sort out this crazy problem? Why does Apple make it so hard to sort out?

Hi thanks, When I enter the Apple ID I get a message that either my Apple ID or password are incorrect. I then go to Forgotten Password, enter my Apple ID, choose to get an email to reset the password, but no email arrives.
So if I can't find/reuse the Redeemed Gift Card due to the Apple ID problem, surely that doesn't mean I lose $20??
I first emailed one week ago. Have emailed for the third time today.

  • Mac App Store doesn't recognise my Apple ID as I had a hard drive replaced. Any ideas?

I've just tried to access Mac App Store but it doesn't recognise my Apple ID. It's fine when I signed in to this forum and on my purchases of iTunes on my Mac but not App Store. Also, can't download iCloud, it's showing MobileMe.

    Yes - that's correct.
I did attempt Apple’s Internet Recovery system, but that failed dramatically, as I couldn't get an Internet connection or get to the Apple logo when pressing Command and R keys at the startup.
This evening I visited the Apple Store and installed the OS via Apple's Network using a RJ45 cable.
    Thanks all for your responses.

  • Thunderbolt display doesn't start after standby

wakeup the MacBook from standby mode the thunderbolt display will not start since the mountain lion update.
you must unplug and replug the connector for starting the display

I had the same problem with my new MacBook Pro Retina connected to a new Thunderbolt Display running OS 10.8.2. I did resolve the problem after a week or so of troubleshooting, but it did involve getting a resplacement display from Apple.
Here WAS my situation: After connecting the display and having things work (video and external keyboard/mouse and sound/video), when the computer went to sleep (not display sleep, computer sleep) or when it was re-started via the display, I had video but did not have any other external control or display sound/video (was as if the internal hub of the TD was not working).
When I disconnected the Thunderbolt connector (which comes from the "All-in-One" TD cable) from the computer and then plugged in a regular Thunderbolt cable to the computer port and the empty TD Thunderbolt port, all was well. In other words I left the TD Thunderbolt connector disconnected and bypassed it with another Thunderbolt cable between the computer and the TD display port. Note that I left the power connector from the "All-in-One" cable connected as there was no problem with that portion.
This, of course meant that the Thunderbolt part of the All-in-One cable (which is not unpluggable from the display) was bad or the display electronics leading to it was bad. Either way it required a new or repaired display.
I hope this is helpful. After bypassing the All-in-One Thunderbolt interface with my workaround above, I never had the problem occur again (you could command the computer to sleep or re-start it from the display, remove the laptop to use elsewhere, re-connect it, etc. and everything continued to work without fiddling with any connections). As a result, I had Apple replace the display under warranty provisions.

  • IMessage doesn't recognise my apple id

While I have signed into my messages using my ID on my work laptop, the app on my personal laptop doesn't recognise my ID. What should i do?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    What have you done ?
Connect the Mac to the Internet ?
Realistically that is step one based on the way you asked the question.
There would be about 50 other suggestions and questions  about set up  before suggesting your contact Apple Support and ask them to look at the iMessages Servers and whether this Mac is Logged in properly.
In most cases this needs asking for a  Level 2 support person.
It is an Apple ID issue (free to fix) and not an software or hardware issue that might be suggested.

  • My ethernet port on the thunderbolt display doesn't work anymore.

I recently updated to 10.8.4 on a Mac book pro. I use it docked on a thunderbolt display.
The ethernet cable is plugged into the display.
Today I switch the computer on and the dot for ethernet remains orange with "etat inconnu". I tried to reboot, unplug the display nothing worked. I know the ethernet cable works fine.
    Anyone has any idea?
    Thanks,

You could try unplugging the TB display for a few seconds and then plug back in.  If that does not work go to preferences, network and remove the ethernet display and then add the ethernet display (using the + at the bottom).  See if that works.  I had to do that on mine to fix a similar issue.

  • Facetime is supposed to come with Mac OSX 10.9.1 right? It won't open until I sign in with Apple ID, it still won't open after signing in and the worst part, it doesn't recognise my Apple ID and asks me to sign in again and again...

Facetime is supposed to come with Mac OSX 10.9.1 right? It suddenlt requires me to sign in with Apple ID. So I did and it still won't open. The worst part is that it doesn't even recognize my Apple ID no matter how many times I try fill it out again and again. I've seen this happen when I first bought the Imac last year, it was fixed by replacing the host file (with some help from the community here). I did the same thing again, it didn't work.
    Any idea please?

It's fixed by changing the account name (Apple ID) and password

  • Thunderbolt Display doesn't turn

hi there, here is the issue, i got a MB-P 15" late 2013 (from work) and a TBH 27", recently doesn't turn on the display when the cable is connected, i have tried with others MBP from my mates, and is the same story, doesn't work, the charger cable if it works but the mini display port doesn't, ( funny thing is that light of the mouse turn off when the display port is connected).
    what could be the problem?

I am having a similar problem with a 15" MacBook pro with retina display.  I got it working once after resetting the SMC and the the PRAM (Internet search for instructions).  Howerver I have not gotten it to work again so I would be curious if this solves your problem.

  • IPad doesn't recognised my Apple ID password

but it workout fine on computer or web. I reset password 3 Times.

Are you able to download new apps (e.g. a free app) and/or app updates on your computer's iTunes ? If you can then try connecting the iPad to your computer's iTunes and syncing and seeing if that 'resets' the account on the iPad.

  • Full size apple keyboard, Macbook Air and Thunderbolt problem

Here's the scenario.  Come to work, plug in Macbook air to thunderbolt display.  Hit keyboard to wake it up.  Nothing.  Click magic mouse and awake comes Macbook and thunderbolt display.  Click on user and go to type password in... no keyboard.  Happens every 2-3 days sometimes 2-3 days in a row.  Have to open Macbook Air, use Macbook keyboard to log in.  Hit restart, let it boot and then viola the usb keyboard works.
I have searched Thunderbolt firmware updates and see the previous cases of people having trouble and pram zapping and blah blah blah. I can't seem to find instructions on firmware update anywhere for thunderbolt display.  Is there no correct fix for this yet?  I'm using all Apple products.  It should just work.
    Thanks in advance.

Through experimentation, I've found that the audio works fine (i.e., no static) if I remove all USB connections from the Thunderbolt Display.
If I plug my Apple keyboard into a USB port on the Thunderbolt Display, and I let the audio play for a few minutes, the audio begins to degrade with static.
As a short-term workaround, I've removed all USB connections from the Thunderbolt Display. When I connect the MacBook Air to the display, I plug a USB hub into the MacBook Air (not into the Thunderbolt Display). I plug the Apple keyboard (etc.) into the USB hub. With this configuration, the audio works fine.
Of course, I do want to be able to use the USB ports on the Thunderbolt Display, so this is a short-term workaround at best.

  • Is it possible to connect a mac book pro via thunderbolt and a dvi switchbox (multiple computers) to a thunderbolt display?

    Hi,
I'm planning to buy a thunderbolt display.Since I have not only apple computers with a thunderbolt port I wonder if it's possible to connect my mac book pro via thunderbolt and a DVI switchbox via a "mini displayport to DVI connector" to the thunderbolt display at the same time. Thunderbolt is a bus architecture. Thus there must be an ingoing and an outgoing port on the display. The rearview of the display I've seen so far don't show this:
If this is not possible then I must question the market chances of this product. Seems as if the product marketing guys exaggerated the launch of the thunderbolt technology.

    ais-swiss wrote:
How to connect windows laptop (vga) to thunderbolt display?
AHHH??!!!!!!  Was that your original question??   I assumed you were trying to output FROM your computer (MacBook Pro w/ Thunderbolt) to the new display and then OUT to be the video source to a DVI switcher.
    MB Pro w/TB ---> TB Display ---> mDP-to-DVI adapter ---> DVI switcher
So it seems as if it's not possible to use the thunderbolt display with the mini display port adapter to DVI you've mentioned.
I did not understand that you were trying to use other PC's into a switcher and then THAT Video source to connect INTO the TB display.   If THAT is what you're trying to do, then NO....  You can NOT use the new TB Display to be used to display "FROM" a DVI switcher (and also can NOT be used to display from other Non-TB-Apple computers).
I've also called apple. The statement was that one needs a computer with osx 10.6.x in order to connect the thunderbolt display. That makes it impossible to hook a windows pc or older mac to the new and shiny thunderbolt display.
I wonder why apple doesn't state this in their technical descriptions...?
    -ais-swiss
Actually, the state that information all over the Tech Specs on the Apple Store website.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC914LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Here are two different statements from that webpage:
So yes.... other NON-Apple PC's (or non-TB devices) do Not have the Thunderbolt technology (hardware/software) to be able to communicate with the TB display or other TB devices.

  • External (thunderbolt) display not working at all when in clamshell mode

I have a brand new macbook pro (2014).  With a thunderbolt display and external keyboard/mouse attached, I use the computer as a 'desktop' all the time (lid closed).  Always worked fine, until I upgraded to Yosemite.  Now, either the machine doesn't boot at all, OR (even more strangely), it takes many minutes to boot up, and the animation of fades and also the mouse cursor jump around extremely slowly--the interface is completely unusable and I have to open the display and manually force a shutdown by holding the power button down.  Without an external monitor attached, everything seems to work just fine.
Has anyone else experienced this, and has anyone found a work around?
    Thank you,
Frustrated with Apple's apparent software quality decline,
    Mark

I am running the latest firmware on the TBD and all software is up to date as you can see.

  • Replacement part for a Thunderbolt display

    Hi!
A Thunderbolt display doesn't turn on. Investigation led to a faulty chip marked as:
    ATMLH122
    04B
    IF5966B
The problem is, we can't find a replacement chip online. Maybe it is an Apple ordered chip. Replacing the whole board is a bit pricey, as the display is not covered by warranty anymore.
    Any suggestions?

The standard practice today is to change an entire board ilo just the bad part (I guess just easier).  Your best bet is to find a damaged TBD like on Ebay and use for parts.

  • Thunderbolt display firmware update 1.2 won't install correctly

On Friday 11/13/2014, I received a Software Update notification in OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 that there was an update available for "Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2". I tried installing this several times, but every time it tells me "The Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update could not complete." Now I have 6 failed install attempts showing in Software Update, plus still the still to be installed update itself.
If I click on the "More info" button in the failed installation message, it takes me to this page: About Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2 - Apple Support
On that page it suggest to check the "About this Mac" info for Thunderbolt Display, where "The Firmware Version should be 26.2 and the Port Micro Firmware Version should be 2.0.7 after the update."
My Thunderbolt Display is currently on Firmware Version 22.2, with Port Micro Firmware Version 0.0.21. Why won't this update install?

I had a similar problem: The "Thunderbolt display firmware update 1.2" kept reappearing in AppStore, even though the uppdate seemed successful.
According to Apple[1] the update was successful when the the Firmware Version is 26.2 and the Port Micro Firmware Version is 2.0.7 (visible in About this Mac -> SystemReport).
Above versions were correct in my case, but the update still kept appering in AppStore... (probably I did download and install the update manually after the first failure, but I don't remember ...)
To get rid of the annoying update in AppStore I used the softwareupdate command[2] on the commandline:
        softwareupdate --ignore TBdisplayFWUpdate1.2
