270X 4G flickering

Hello, I am a recent new owner of my first MSI product and am quite happy with the build quality. This is my first post here, so hi to all! My only issue thus far is a flickering screen when I log into windows, and the occasional flicker when browsing. I have tried different cables to my monitor, gfx drivers, and have also reformatted twice to no avail, additionally, I have tried a gtx 460 to rule out the monitor. Is there something wrong with my card? Or is there some kind of fix for this? Another issue I have come across is using the "Gaming App" to change my clock speeds. In "Silent" or "Gaming" mode, it will use a custom fan profile from Afterburner, but will override Afterburner and use the default fan profile in "OC" mode. I have a pretty well ventilated case, yet low ASIC quality, so I know it is using more volts to keep the high clocks, but it does get pretty hot in Kombuster and it would be nice to be able to set a custom profile in "OC" mode. Anyways, I'm dying to get rid of this flicker, and need to know if this is a problem with the card or something else. Thank you.

I think this issue is being discussed on the AMD forum. http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=488&threadid=170363  and http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=440&threadid=169203
According to the posts there, MSI addressed the VBIOS. Perhaps one of the mods will be able to assist you in determining if there is a VBIOS release for your card that solves the issue.
Thanks for the link and heads up. Hopefully someone can chime in with definite answers. I have 14 days to RMA back to Newegg, but it is a pain in the rear to have to do so.

It's a very common problem with r9 270x cards so I don't understand answers from MSI staff.
Just google it, read amd forums, brand doesn't matter. Some brands made new bios for this to help this annoying flickering problem.
I also found a new bios for MSI  but it's on korean site, not sure if ok to use?
I got it as well and a friend with same card also.
Mostly only in 2d mode, when browsing, watching some YouTube or when scrolling.
Yes there is a such, but he already using latest vbios version,
which is suppose to have this fix.

This is the serial number of the card 602-V303-13SB1312021280.
The so called flickering, looks more like broken graphics that can be seen only in few games that are demanding in general. My first assumption was that might be the Power supply unit but again i can be so sure because the least requirement for this card is 500 Watt PSU.
    Thanks in advance.

It's totally easy and welll documented. You'll need the win98boot file to point the tool to or it can't create a dos boot stick.
flobelix can u tell me which version is my vbios?

here u go..the message is written in Korean; but, just download the 270x.zip file. In order to upgrade, you need a empty usb stick and bootable dos in it.
Once, you create a bootable free-dos usb stick, copy paste two files inside..
    atiflash.exe
    TV303MS.102
Reboot with the usb stick. In the command prompt enter the below command:
    atiflash -p -f 0 tv303ms.102
Then, reboot. That's how I did it.

  • MSI R9 270X HAWK low GPU usage and screen flickering problem

I bought an MSI R9 270X HAWK vga and I have this screen flickering issue.
    My S/N: 602-V303-02SB1310009419
I also had another problem: the GPU usage averages at 50-55% on every game (DX9,10,11 games like TESV Skyrim, League of Legends, Crysis 2-3, Battlefield 2-3, Far Cry 3) and never reaches more than 80%(well, once I made it run at 99%, I used ultra settings on Battlefield 4 with Sync on, Ultra preset settings with 200% res. scale so pretty much the maxed out Settings). I'm using this card with 8GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance RAM with a stock clocked 1090T and AMD's reply for this problem was, that this problem can be driver problem as well as VBIOS.

I created a bootable usb, placed the files in it (formated, and only these files were at the usb, dos startup directed to win98boot's folder (C:\win98boot) renamed the tv303ms.134 to tv303ms.rom,l after i placed it on the usb and in the boot menu there are four additional options related to the USB (there's no USB only option): FDD, HDD, CDROM, zip. Selecting the FDD and CDROM starts the windows normally, The HDD option ended on the white-black screen, and there's where I can write:   C:\>
after this i tried to type in: atiflash.exe TV303MS.rom [enter] nothing happened, then atiflash.exe [enter] and popped up some help instructions for the use of atiflash, I pressed enter over and over and then requested another command, I tiped in the tv303ms.rom [enter] and again nothing happened (invalid command I think). What should I do now ? I did some research but still can't figure out what the problem is. :/ (If I done everything correct, maybe the problem related to my motherboard or USB stick?)

  • Flickering problem with R9 270X 4G LE

I am having a problem with a flickering screen during and 2D operation, everything is fine during any 3D operations(ie. gaming). I assume from reading other forum posts that I need to update my bios even though LiveUpdate says that its good. My S/N is 602-V303-20SB1403059248. Any help would be appreciated.

  • R9 270x Multi-monitor flickering.

I'm using a 24" AOC E2460SD flat panel monitor as my primary pc display. However, from time to time, i extend the monitor to my 50" LED T.V. to watch movies and the like.  However, when i extend the desktop to both monitors to dual screen, my 24" pc monitor gets a flicker across the bottom of the screen.  The screen itself doesn't jump or move, it just flickers across the bottom.  Sometimes when i exit a full screen application like windows media player from the 50", the entire screen area of the 24" monitor goes crazy with flickering to the extent that i can barely see anything, and i have to hold in the power button on the pc to turn it off.
Now, the windows on the monitor are fine, i can interact with them behind the flickering, i just can't see them well enough to actually do something constructive.  I've tried to turn off the monitor, but that doesn't rectify the issue.  I've completely uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled my video drivers and rebooted, and that didn't help either.
I've reinstalled Windows 7 x64, i've updated the monitor drivers and have tried various driver versions for the card, but the problem persists.
    Please help.
EDIT:  CCC says i'm on BIOS 015.040.000.000.  I don't know if that's good or bad.

    Try with the attached vbios.
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (102.rar) and put the included file (TV303MH.102) on that stick.
Rename TV303MH.102 to 102.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 102.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

    Vbios is already latest (TV303MH.102).
Try disabling CPU core parking as many users reported that it solves such flicker issues:

    Tried that, no dice.

A vbios update does not help in 90% of cases. Run the Gaming APP in OC or Gaming mode and see if that helps: http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/gamingApp.zip
If not add S/N and save the current vbios to file, upload it to some file hoster and add link here.  If not allowed to post links yet, mask it by XX at beginning and end (e.g. XXlink.comXX)

  • MSI R9 270x HAWK "malfunction"?

Hi, I have owned this graphics card for the last 4 months and its always worked fine apart from getting bluescreens due to html5 videos (other people have the same problem).
Today while playing BF4 the screen started flickering until it turned kind of red and black so I
    1. Restarted the PC and everything was fine until it got past the point where it asks if I want to boot into safe mode, after that the screen would turn black and nothing would happen, it did boot into safe mode so I thought it might have been some driver that got corrupted.
    2. I decided to install windows 8.1 and then when I went into internet explorer it crashed (this was after quite a few minutes of using the pc) then I restarted and it crashed even sooner.
    3. Took the gpu out, reset the bios and everything was fine. Then I downloaded the drivers.
    4. put the gpu back in and tried to install the drivers but halfway through it crashed again. Now im using the gpu but its not actually working, I think its just going through the gpu to the cpu graphics card.
Was wondering if there is a fix for this or if I have to RMA it (been 4 months since I bought it so I doubt I can RMA it with scan, that's why I'm posting here).
    Thank you, John
Edit #1 - I technically didnt buy this since Scan replaced it for a gigabyte r9 270x windforce

Hi, the bios version I put was actually wrong, its actually the latest update called "F11a".
The gigabyte card completely stopped working and they told me they found a problem in the card itself.

  • [HELP] MSI Radeon R9 270X BLACK SCREEN during driver installation

    Hello,
I own the R9 270X, which is on my PCI-E x16 slot, motherboard: Gigabyte ga-b85m-d3h.
When I try to install drivers for my card (those that come from AMD site, those from MSI site or those on the CD attached with card) my screen turns black in the middle of installation.
The monitor works, but there is just black screen displayed. When I restart it stays black after the Windows logo or it crashes during the usage. When it crashes it displays a solid color screen with some vertical stripes. Usually somewhere after 15 minutes from start.
My motherboard BIOS is up to date.
Card has worked great for 2 hours after fresh installation of Windows but then the problems i mentioned came back. I was even able to play games on high settings, but then the solid-color-crash occured again.
Is my card faulty and should I return it?
    Specs:
    Intel Core i5-4440
    Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H Intel B85 LGA 1150 mATX
Power: Corsair VS 450W ATX 120mm
Windows 8.1 64, but tested also on Windows 7 64 installed on my computer.

I'm back on my computer (where I can't install propper drivers), haven't checked with afterburner.
    Two scenarios:
    1. The screen started to flick/jump when we wanted to run testing game (Call Of Duty 4) on his computer, we didn't even get pass the starting window, then when we returned to Windows the flickering and jumping didn't stop. Then it was steady for a 5 second, and again flickering and jumping.
    2. When I first received my newly assembled computer after fresh Windows installation I was able to play Assassins’ Creed Black Flag for about 15 minutes, then the flickering/jumping occur. Then after many trials (including removing and trying different drivers, setting up fresh windows and so on -remember, I wasn't able to even install the drivers after that) I was able to again install drivers and play for like 2 hours. Then - same as earlier problem occur.
So in conclusion, I've manage to install my drivers two times. But then the "solid color and stripes" or "jumping and flickering" problem occurred after few minutes of computer usage.
One more thing. On my computer even at low resolution the screen had some glitches (stripes here, dots there), on my friend's computer, there were no glitches at first. The flickering-and-jumping or solid-color-and-stripes problem occurs only on resolution HIGHER than 800x600.

  • Request : MSI R9 270X vbios

    Hi,
I recently purchased a new MSI R9 270X 2GB card and I'm having a lot of "flickering" problem since I use it. First it started after using MSI AfterBurner to get the most of it (OC proved stable after two hours of MSI Kombustor stress test with max temperature around 75°C). Strangely not while in game but in his idle mode (300/150MHz). The flickering occurs on the desktop, while using web browsers (tried 3 of them) and sometimes the screen goes wild for no apparent reasons and I have to restart the computer. Since I OCed it, my first thought was to bring it back to its normal mode (1080/1400MHz) but even his this idle mode (150/150MHz) I still got the flickering. It disappear while in game but even if I use the MSI Gaming App (OC and Gaming mode to avoid the idle mode) I still get the flickering. I still own an old HD 5770 and have no flickering with it. Tried to use both and I still have the flickering if the R9 is the primary card. I also used DDU to uninstall all AMD drivers and reinstall the R9 with no changes.
Here are the S/N and GPU-Z info :
Thx in advance for your help.

While I was looking around on the web for people with same issue, I decided to try something else. I uninstalled everything that was GC related, used only the R9 270X and installed the MSI version of the drivers. So far I don't have anymore flickering (even when OCed). Still, I'll need the newer vbios just in case since I know it was only temporary for some people. Will post here any good or bad review about this trick. I just hope it'll hold since I was thinking to buy another MSI R9 270X and that will wait until I'm sure the flickering is gone for good.

  • MSI R9 270x 4gb

Hey guys. I have the MSI R9 270x 4gb twin frozr edition. it is an amazing graphics card but lately I have been getting red lines flickering spontaneously across the screen vertically. I only got the GPU 1 week ago and this is happening. It happens in and out of games for about 20 seconds every hour or two.
Any ideas how to resolve this?

    Couple of suggestions:
-Update your BIOS- Use Forum's USB tool and guide to do so.
-Update all the drivers (try up to BETA)-
    -Try older graphics drivers-
-Try the card in different PC (with newer CPU maybe?)
    -Lower RAM speeds-
I've noticed that many people got problems with most "lower" end cards that has 4GB of VRAM (lower end compared to the highest available R9 295x, I mean you can get R9 270x with either 2gb or 4gb right?, and then high end cards  which are at least 4gb)
