2710 Display Questions

Hi, I have 2 questions 1) Can I adjust the brightness of my 2710 display? 2) How can I stop the display from turning off, especially when I am trying to read a long SMS or a text file. It gets very annoying if I have to turn it on again (and again, and again ...) after every few seconds. Thanks Stan

  • Double Quotes Display Question Marks

I have some data in a tabe that is rendered as some read only output in my JHS app. This works fine in JDeveloper on Linux and JDeveloper as well as deployed on Windows. However in the version that is deployed on Red Hat the double quotes are not displaying correctly and instead display question marks in their place. The import of the database schema worked and the data is in fact double quotes. Wondering what setting I can change that makes this server treat the same data as the other environments?

    Hi,
This sounds like a JDeveloper/ADF issue that is not related to JHeadstart. Can you please ask this question at the JDeveloper forum at JDeveloper and ADF ? Thanks!

  • Korean Language Display Question

    Hi everyone,
Here's a curious question I have for anyone else here that can read/write korean.
I have this one song by the artist Seven (Se7en) with the english title of the song "Holding Flowers." I have the song title input into Korean characters on iTunes, and it comes out fine there. For some reason, the first character ("flower") is missing from the title.
It's a problem I've had, not only on my Nano, but also my 3rd gen iPod. Just wondering, is the OS simply not able to display some characters, or is there a way around it?
    Thanks!

In iTunes or only in the iPod? Is that the only character this is happening to? Is it hangul or hanja? If the latter it may well be that not every character is available in the font installed on the iPod.

  • Probably the mother of all stupid display questions...

I just bought a Gateway 22" widescreen for my PowerMac. Max resolution is 1680 by 1050 which is the default the Mac set it to (DVI connection btw). I was messing around playing UT2004 with this new display. My question is this...would the display or increase in the resolution somehow AFFECT actual gameplay? Specifically I noticed that once in a while, my character will stop moving forward, I have to let off on the key and press it down again to get my character moving again. I only noticed this AFTER upgrading my display, I used to have a Samsung 17" LCD display. BTW, my keyboard is a MIcrosoft Wireless Mac desktop. Like I said, didn't have problems until the display was upgraded. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
Cliff Notes: upgraded display to 22" Widescreen, Graphics cart is a Radeon X800 XT, try to play UT2004, character stops moving forward intermittently. Didn't have problem before...any relation? Thanks.

There should only be issues if you have also increased the resolution in the game itself (because the graphics chip has to work harder). Are you able to check (or lower) the resolution within the game?

  • Display Questions with Retina and VMware Fusion (Windows 7/8)

Looking to buy my first MacBook Pro and looking to make sure I get the specs I need and have a couple of questions.
I would like to be able to run (simultaenously)
    During the day for work:
Windows 7 x64 - 30GB HD - 1 Core - 1GB Ram - Purpose: Has a VPN client that allows me to VPN and RDP only
Windows 8.1 x64 - 60GB HD - 2 Cores - 4GB+ Ram - Purpose: Office 2013 installed on this VM and all my other work applicatons (light weight)
OSX 10.10 - Whatever it can take - Light Web Browsing etc while at work.
    After work:
Guess it doesn't matter really - i'd like to play games (bootcamp fine) if possible too. Nothing crazy so barely worth mentioning.
    My main questions:
Display: Iris Pro or nVidia - Can the base 15 inch GPU/CPU handle the two VMs at the same time plus the host OS (OSX) without hiccups?
Display: How does VMware Fusion recognize the discrete GPU - will the system be smooth/quiet without activating it?
Battery life: Virtualization is pretty heavy battery wise. Does anyone know what happens to the battery when you're running a couple VMs?
Display: How is running Windows 7/8 on a MacBook with a specifically retina display? Do the Windows PCs look really ugly/blurry due to such a high resolution?
What is the minimum hardware required for these VMs to run fast and responsive? (CPU/GPU/RAM only)
    Thanks!!

Sorry - we're users here, just like you, and some questions just get lost sometimes.
The fastest hardware you can buy, the easier you'll be able to run Windows. If you use Boot Camp to run Windows (7, 8 or 8.1) the machine will run at it's best. If you want to run Windows alongside the Mac OS, you'll need to use a VM application (I use Parallels - I've tried VMwareFusion but like Parallels better and it just works best for me).
    So, to your questions:
The Retina machine with the NVIDIA GPU will be the fastest - it's a faster processor and has more VRAM.
Any VM is going to use resources - how much RAM, for example, is up to you. I have 16 GB of RAM and 8GB dedicated to Parallels/Windows 7 Pro.
I wouldn't (and you really can't) run a VM for very long on battery. If you're using VM's, that's the time to plug into mains. Running a 'couple' of VM would put further heavy use on your GPU, CPU and shorten your battery life.
I would make sure to get a good, fast quad-core i7 processor, the 2GB of VRAM NVIDIA GPU and the maximum amount of RAM (16GB).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Bootcamp Windows 7 Sleep Display question?

    Hey guys,
I have a 27" iMac running Boot Camp with both Mac OS X Mountain Lion and Windows 7 Ultimate.
When I'm in Windows, is there a way that I can turn off the display? Currently if I press the power button on the back of the machine it automatically shuts down Windows. Is there a way I can configure it so that it only turns off the display as opposed to the hard drive and everything else? Or is there another/better way of accomplishing this? Or any other way to turn off the display only?
    Thanks!

I have same questions, but in Windows 8. And my timer for Dim and Display off are not functioning properly.

  • Mac Pro 1,1 3 display question

I have a 1,1 Mac Pro with the ATI 5770. I currently am running a 30 inch cinema display on the DVI output and a 19 inch LCD on one of the mini ports using the following adapter:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004071ZXA
I was curious, since these 19 inch monitors are 1280X1024 if I could possibly run 2 using the mini ports with these adapters? I read that dual link DVI adapters are required, but what if the 2 displays are smaller like these?

Mini DisplayPort is not just a different-shaped DVI. It is a completely different protocol. To use all three ports, you will need to take drastic measures and install "active" "powered" converters on BOTH Mini DisplayPorts. The adapter you referenced is NOT such a converter.

  • 24" display questions

Hi, im close to placing an order for a mini (I use a 24" Imac in work) and want a 24" display for my work at home.
    I have seen 2 possible displays Dell 2408 (16:10, 1920 x 1200) and the dell 2409 (16:9, 1920 x 1080).
    My questions are:
    1. can the I mac support these pixel dimensions 'natively'? so that I dont get any distortion/squashing etc?
    2. can it support 24" at all, as the spec on the apple store says 22 & 23" monitors are to be used - in which case would I be better off with one that size?
    Thanks
    Ger

The Intel Mini supports 1920 x 1200 natively. That's what I'm running on my 24" Samsung SyncMaster 245bw.
The actual size in inches doesn't matter: it's the pixel dimensions that count.

  • PDF displays question mark font

I'm trying to study for an exam, but am having trouble viewing certain PDF files. It displays a box-enclosed question mark font. Up till a few days ago, I could read them just fine, but then I ran Onyx and since then I get the weird font. I've tried opening in Preview, Adobe reader, Skim, and in my browsers and they all do this. Can someone please help me out? Thanks

Hello belgremoo, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sounds like a munged Font or Font Cache.
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go. Reboot when all done, it clears Font Caches as well.
Start with Font Book in Applications, Validate Fonts first, if that doesn't fix it then move all your new fonts to a different set & leave only these in the Main set...

  • Powerbook 12" display question

    Hi all
I recently bought a 1.5 Powerbook computer from someone. I was told before I bought it; that the screen was dim and you can faintly see things in the Finder. The person that I bought it from told me that she took it to the apple store and they said that it was the inverter board that was the problem.
After I bought the computer, I took it home and started to troubleshoot the problem. Well, the display is definitely faint. However, about a third of the display (from about the middle to the lower part of the display) is completely black.
I haven't hooked up the powerbook to an external monitor. If I assume that the person who I bought it from told me the truth about the Apple Store looking at the computer, that they would have done that to eliminate that possibility.
My question is this. Since the lower portion of the screen is completely dark (and the upper half is faint), would the problem be the inverter board or the actual display?
Also, I have another 12" powerbook (it is the 867 model) that is disassembled at the moment. Would it be possible to take the connector from that display and somehow put it in the 1.5 model's logic board in order to see if the display would come on?
Another question: if it is the inverter board and not the screen, would I have to take the whole display out in order to get the inverter board? I noticed in the powerbook-medic's video take apart guide; that he only goes as far as to removing the display in his video and doesn't show the removal of the inverter. I know that after you take out the LCD, you have to disengage the airport part from the inverter from his take apart manual. Any thoughts on this for advance precautions?
Thanks in advance for your time in reading this.

Well, so much for the previous questions
Anyway, I decided to buy a used display on Ebay. The person I got it from has 100% feedback and has done many auctions.
In any event, after taking the powerbook apart once again, I put in the new (used) display in. I also put in my hard drive from another aluminum powerbook machine (12" 867). When I booted the machine, I didn't see anything on the screen. All I heard was a low long beep for a couple of seconds.
I decided to put in another RAM chip and the original hard drive from the 1.5 machine. I started up the machine and noticed that it was doing the SAME thing that it was doing with the other screen. It was giving me a faint desktop.
I took the machine to work and tried it again with an external monitor once again. It works with an external display.
So, before I email this woman and tell her that she gave me a display with a bad inverter board. Would it be possible that there is something else wrong other than the display.
BTW, I did the P RAM thing and reset the power manager.

  • T410 Multiple display question

    Hello,
    Here is my question(s).
I have a T410 D++ Display port and a Lenovo Series 75Y5906 Dock with VGA output only.
Do I have the ability to have (2) external displays while docked?
Is the Display port operable while the T410 is docked?
Meaning can I setup External Monitor One: Dock VGA and External monitor two: laptop Display port to create two external displays? or does it have to be undocked to do this?
Thank you in advance for the help,
    Matt

yes the displayport works when you dock to the port replicator.
You can use the dock's vga + displayport on the laptop at the same time.
And welcome to the forum Matt.

  • Studio display Question

Hi I have a couple of questions I have a apple. Studio. Display 17in and I was wondering if I could hook up to an 2010 macmini and if thr is special connectors for connecting it to the display also won't mind buy them also it has mountain lion installed

The ADC system is actually DVI signaling combined with power through the SAME cable and plugs
You need to get the adaptor referred to by Malcolm above in the link.
This is an external power supply with DVI pass through and USB - AND they are not cheap even used you will be looking at $100 +
There are cheaper ADC/DVi devices but they are NO USE because they won't provide power !
You then need a Mini Displayport to DVi (Not HDMI) adapator.
    Its doable but costly.

  • Multiple display question

    Hello,
Just a little bit of info about my current setup.  I currently own a Desktop PC and considering switching to macbook pro for portability and also have it fixed in one place when I'm home.  The current setup, dual monitors (One 22" LCD Monitor + 37" TV) hooked up to my PC, the TV works as a extended display where I watch all of my entertainment files.  Resolution for the displays are 1680x1050 (Monitor, DVI), 1920x1080 (TV 1080p Current using HDMI to DVI Cable).  My question is since I might be buying a laptop would it be possible to have monitor and TV connect to the laptop (w/ open lid) with their own specific resolutions? If not, is there another solution anybody could suggest?.
    Thank you.

Well you could use a Mini-DIsplay to HDMI to hook the computer up to the TV. You could use a USB to DVI adapter to hook up your LCD display. One thing to be aware of about USB to DVI adapter is that they tend to be ok for displaying web pages, and text documents. They tend to have issues when it comes to things like 3D or open GL.

  • Heat, Fan, and dimming display questions

I have a hot running MacBook Pro. I've had the unit returned for service and only one of my four issues was resolved. The unit is going back again for service.
I seemed to irritate the last tech support person by asking questions about the heat issues. Maybe some people here can help answer the question that changed his tone for the worse during the remainder of the support call.
Can you easily hear the fan(s) when they operate or do you have to put your ear real close to the laptop to hear the fan(s) operate?
I asked because I couldn't tell you what a fan sounds like on this machine. I'm on my second motherboard and I cannot feel any air flow from all those vents (or anywhere else for that matter) along the back of the laptop near the display hinge.
Has anyone found a correlation between a dimming display and heat? What happens is the display dims the equivelent of bringing down the brightness down three levels and after a few seconds it brightens back up.
The laptop is going in for a second repair for the following reason:
"Problem Description: Customer sensory issues - Temperature perception: CPU/Unit"

Hello I just wanted to give you some insight on the screen dimming. If you have not unchecked the box at the bottom of the display pane is system prefs the display will dim when ever it scences a lower light situation. I have attached a picture. HERE

  • Chord Symbols: 3 Display Questions

Been using Logic for a while now (first with Express 7.2; then Logic Studio since its debut) -- though would still label myself a novice. Am hoping some of the pros here can help clarify a couple of points re the display of Chord Symbols:
    Question 1):
I was happy to recently discover that unlike both the Transport window and the little box in the top right of the Piano Roll, the Chord option within Global Tracks does show the inversions -- “F/C” as opposed to simply “F” for example.
is there any way to set the Transport window, the Piano Roll, etc. to do the same?
    Question 2):
Other than simply repositioning those blue chord symbols which appear in the Score window (after selecting the Insert Chords function), or editing them by double-clicking on them, are there any cleverly-hidden formatting options as well: font, font size, making the bottom letter smaller than the root letter, etc? Or has that kind of window-dressing not yet been built in?
    Question 3):
If I change the actual notes of a chord (say by dragging some of them up or down in the Piano Roll), and if the chords in that region have already been analyzed, is there a way to “re-analzye” just that one chord, or just the one region of which it’s a part, without everything going wonky?
By wonky, I mean that when I’ve tried to do this, many of the other chord symbols suddenly change, some go out of alignment with the measure to which they belong, and chords from other regions disappear altogether. And in the Edit Menu it talks about how I’ve just Inserted a Transposition Change, even though the region I had selected contained no transpositions whatsoever. (And the same thing seems to happen regardless of whether the “Change Display Only” option is checked or not.)
So I simply Undo, and then manually enter the correct new chord name. But I’m guessing the above paragraph reflects some basic misunderstanding I must have about how the Analzye function is supposed to work. So if anyone could set me straight (or point me in the right RTFM direction) on that point, I’d be grateful.
    Thanks,

Well, no takers after two weeks, but at least I can now answer one of the above questions myself for the benefit of anyone searching this topic.
Re Question 2, yes you CAN format the chord symbols imported onto a Score Editor page. Just click on the small Text button near the top of the Score window, and from the drop down list which appears choose "Text Styles...". That gives you a window with a list of a dozen or so elements (two of which are "Chord Root" and "Chord Ext."). Double-Clicking in the column to the right of any of those elements in turn opens a standard Font window which lets you format away -- it even offers options for that particular element to be boxed or circled. Only restriction is it looks like any changes you make are global to that Project for that particular element, which is what you'd want (for the sake of visual consistency) 99% of the time anyway.
Only follow-up question would be: is there any way to make any of those text formatting changes the default for all future projects when accessing the Score Editor?
Meantime, would still like to hear from anyone with thoughts on Question 1 (getting the Transport window to display chords with their inversions, a la the Global Tracks display) and/or Question 3 (is there a clean way to re-Analyze a region in which you may have changed some of the chords -- or is that just an unpredictably "buggy" area still to be avoided?)
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
