2715 Error when installing a newer version of iTunes

I have been trying to solve this problem for about 10 months and I finally solved it tonight. I thought I would post the solution just in case anyone hit the same error, especially since it appears to be rare.
Here is the error: “The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2715.”
My problem was that every time I tried to install the latest update for iTunes, it would almost completely through the install, then throw this error and stop. It wasn't a killer until version 7.4 when I could no longer buy songs on iTunes (I was still on 7.0).
Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes had no effect.
The solution was to:
1. uninstall iTunes from Add/Remove Programs
2. Uninstall ALL Apple software including “Apple Mobile Device Support”, Apple Updates, all iPod entries, and Quicktime
a. In my case, some of them threw fatal errors and could not be romoved. The next steps took care of the rest of them.
3. Searched my hard drive to find every folder related to Apple, iPod, or Quicktime that was left from the poor uninstalls. I found files still lying around in the following folders and deleted everything related to iPod, Apple, or Quicktime
a. “Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\”
b. Program Files\
4. Next, I went into the Registry with RUN=>REGEDIT
5. Using RegEdit, I searched for every entry for “Apple Mobile Device Support” and deleted every key and subkey
6. I also removed every key related to “Apple Inc.” and “Apple Computer Inc.”
7. Reinstall the latest version of iTunes from scratch
FINALLY, this fixed the problem. The short version is I had to uninstall every piece of Apple software and update that could be removed, then remove every Apple folder on my harddrive, then delete every Apple entry in my registry, then reinstall iTunes.
All my playlists were still there. All I had to do was re-authorize my computer (automatic when I tried to play a song from my library) and then all was well again with the latest (7.4) version of iTunes.
Hope this helps someone.

  • Error when upgrading to newer versions of iTunes

I currently have version 7.1.1.5 of iTunes installed on my windows PC. I have tried numerous times to install the upgraded recently 7.3 version without any luck.
Evrytime I double click on the executable file, it starts the install but then stops and tells me that it can't find the specified drive to install to. I've upgraded to a newer hdd less than 6 months ago and have named them differently. Why wouldn't iTunes let me CHOOSE where I would like to install it to instead of assuming that everyone will be downloading and installing to "C" drive or anything else? Is there any way around this?
I am unable to upgrade b/c it is looking to install to my "J" drive which is a drive I no longer have!!
    Please help

    "Invalid Drive J:\"
I haven't had a drive labeled J since my last hdd died. I've since upgraded and changed the name to "C" drive. My iTunes is installed on my K drive which is my external hdd that connects via USB

I had this, and after a large number of fruitless attempts, I had to reload Windows, which solved it. This was of course a real pain, but I had to do it since updating iTunes was necessary in order to get the new iOS version. But before doing such a drastic thing, you could try to restore Windows to a previous point in time by picking a restore point. This of course presumes that you really have some issues with your Windows (which I had) and that you can make a decent guess on when the system was ok (which I couldn't), i.e that you can decide a good date to restore to.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • I attempted to install the new version of itunes and I keep getting a R6034 error

I attempted to install the new version of Itunes and I keep getting a R6034 error.  What do I do?

    Hi davemac123,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I recommend removing and reinstalling iTunes using these steps:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
You can find the article with these steps and more information here:

  • I have had an eMac for a few years. I don't know any of the specs. Every time I try to download or install a new version of itunes or OS I get any number of error messages and cannot complete.  Help!!!!

I have had an eMac for a few years. I don't know any of the specs. Every time I try to download or install a new version of itunes or OS I get any number of error messages and cannot complete.  Help!!!!

It's best to start with figuring out your eMac model and OS in order to answer the question. This article will help you determine your model:
How to locate the serial number and identify your model
And to get the version of Mac OS that's installed:
From the Apple Menu at the left end of your menu bar, select "About this Mac..."
In the resulting Window, you can see the Mac OS version just under the big "Mac OS X":
If the eMac is older and you have never upgraded the system software, it's possible that your OS version is too old to run the current iTunes. The current version requires OS 10.5 (Leopard)or higher, which is a pay-for system upgrade.

I have just just installed a new version of itunes. When i tried to run the new version it came up with the message "The file ituneslibrary.itl cannot be read because it was created by newer version of itunes.
I installed the new version because itunes had not recognised my ipod nano 5G, and told me to reinstall. Itunes selected which version to install, so I don't understand what is going on. To add insult to injury it installed a pile of malware which I am still trying to get rid off.
    Any advice would be helpful

  • Can't install a new version of iTunes

I upragded my iPod, but now I can't install a new version of iTunes. Always when I'm trying to install it, it says I should write somekind of iTunes.msi path. So what should I do?
And sorry about my bad english

msi problems can usually be fixed with the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility.
Unfortunately the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility has been with drawn by Microsoft because of compatibility issues with Microsoft Office so you will need to find a copy elsewhere – the installer is msicuu2.exe. You need version 3.
    Google msicuu2.exe download
mydigitallife in the above search has a copy of version 3
Check for malware before installing it.
After installing, To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install
If you get permission denied error, Try Run as Administrator – an option if you right click on the program.
Use the Cleanup Utility to remove any instances of the problem program, i.e. iTunes.
    Then try installing itunes.

  • Cannot uninstall or install any newer versions of itunes

My laptop recently had to have the registry recovered. I'm sure this problem is related to the registry, but I don't know what key is preventing this from happening. Whenever I try to install any newer versions of itunes I get an error about the apple updater software cannot be uninstalled because the associated .msi can't be found. I even point to the .msi and it still fails. I have even tried to completely remove itunes and I get the same error. First of all, I don't understand why apple has designed the install files to remove previous versions when merely upgrading them would fix any problems like this. So, if anyone knows how to fix this, please help! I am now several versions behind and am getting errors adding music to my shopping cart because of it.

I found information on how to transfer my itunes library to a new computer. I am going to use an external hard drive for this to transfer my itunes folder to the new computer.
I will then download and install a new version of itunes on my new computer.
My question is this. When I do this, will itunes have all my album artwork for all my library? My library has a lot of my own music and I have spent quite a bit of time copying album artwork that itunes did not add. I am really hoping I don't have to do this again!

Has anybody else experienced this? If so, how did you fix Explorer? I was using Explorer 11 and Windows 7, installed on an HP Pavilion g series

Never heard of that being caused by installing iTunes. Try asking on a Windows forum. This isn't a problem with iTunes or any other Apple product. If you believe it is, uninstall iTunes. If the problem persists, you'll have to seek advice on a Windows forum or contact Microsoft for support.

  • I installed a new version of iTunes and now...

I installed a new version of iTunes and now it doesn't recognize my phone. The phone software is up to date and working normally, but I would like to sync my phone and can't. Every time I plug my phone into the computer, which worked fine before the new iTunes software, my phone asks me "Do you trust this computer?" I have restarted my computer, and that didn't help. Also my computer will not recognize my phone, to download pics, after I've activated iTunes.
