28.Which is a possible member of anchoring dimension (largest dense dim or smallest sparse dim or largest sparse dim...

<p>Hi</p><p>greetings to you all.</p><p>can anyone tell me "Which is a possible member of anchoringdimension (largest dense dim or smallest sparse dim or largestsparse dim etc.,)"?</p>

There is a good explanation in the DataBase Administrator's Guide. The DBAG is always a good first stop for technical issues, and in many cases does a great job. One word of caution is that while the body text is rarely technically wrong, the same is not true for examples (throughout the documentation).<BR><BR>Short answer (from memory, so it may be somewhat flawed): A sparse dimension is either a bitmap dimension or an anchor dimension. The bitmaps are used to optimize the calc order of the members, so it's basically a checklist of which ones are finished and which need to be done. Multiple bitmaps are needed for multiple calc conditions (like one member rolling up to more than one parent). The anchor dimensions are essentially 'outside' of this optimization technique, and thus the fewer, the better. Hence the DBAG reference to having a "single dimension, multiple bitmap" calc as being the most optimum.<BR><BR>HTH<BR>

  • Is it possible to show anchor points permanently???

I'm copying a map by tracing over it in Illustrator. The original map was also made in Illustrator, but I need to rearrange borders of countries, as I am making a WWII map.
QUESTION: Is it possible to turn anchor points on permanently so that I can trace precisely over the original borders by placing the new anchor points exactly over the old anchor points?
    Thanks very much in advance,
    - Nick

    Hi Jacob,
    Exactly, thanks for your reply.
I have to follow the path. However I need to make some adjustments, e.g. : Romania.
On a modern day map, Romania is smaller than it was before WWII when it included Bessarabia (modern day Moldova). So I would retrace Romania's modern day border to the south and west as it didn't change since before WWII. But I would have to alter Romania's northern border to include Moldova. That's why I need to be able to see the original anchor points so that I can trace precisely over them, except where the borders have changed.
I'm using Illustrator CS5. The original map was an svg file downloaded from Wikipedia Commons.

  • Parallel Query - which actions are possible?

    Hello guys,
we have an OLTP system which a huge amount of data... and now i want to try to introduce parallel query in the system and test something around.
I have some experiences with parallel query in an OLAP environment, but not in an OLTP.
    What i am searching for?
An overview for Oracle 10g which lists all possible query accesses that are possible in a parallel environment.
    For example:
    - FTS - possible
    - Nested Loops - possible
    - Index Range scans - not possible
I know some .. but not all so i am searching for an overview on the oracle documentation page but was not able to found something.
    Maybe you can help me.
    Regards
    Stefan

Hello sybrand (my little senior dba),
regarding to the paper of Doug Burns there are more things that can be executed parallel (but this paper is about Oracle 9i), so please don't post if you don't have any knowledge.
    http://www.dbanotes.net/archives/px.pdf
=> As Oracle’s parallel capabilities have been developed, most tasks can be executed in parallel now. According to the 9.2.0.5 documentation, Oracle supports parallel execution of the following operations: -
    Access methods
For example, table scans, index fast full scans, and partitioned index range scans.
    Join methods
For example, nested loop, sort merge, hash, and star transformation.
I am searching for such an information about Oracle 10g... maybe there are some more things that can be executed parallel wit 10g.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Some futures in bpel which are not possible with ESB and vice versa

Can anyone please tell me some futures in bpel which are not possible with ESB and For some features available in ESB that are absence in BPEL?

I think you've mistaken the meaning of both technologies. ESB actually works as a part of BPEL, for instance you can create partner link from any esb service.
ESB service can only expose data or retrieve and process (transform) them from another service. BPEL is using services like ESB as a source and adds decision making functionality which is not present in ESB.

  • Oracle OLAP:Same member values across dimensions

We had an enquiry from a client which mentions:
Per Essbase the same dimension member value cannot exist across multiple dimensions. e.g. if we have a account dimension with member 1001 , it is not possible to have product dimension with same member value 1001. This is essentially because Essbase implements it like a shared member. Apparently Essbase Excel-addin will not know what dimension to search for if both have same values.
As per our understanding there is no such limitation in Oracle OLAP both during cube build or querying via Excel Add-in. i.e we can have account dimension with member 1001 and same member value can exist in a product dimension. Please advise and if anybody has any reference to any documentation in this regard please let us know.

    Hi there,
You are correct - there is no such limitation in Oracle OLAP.
A dimension value must be unique in any given dimension but can be repeated in other dimensions.
I do not have any documentation but this is really easy to prove using the OLAP worksheet in AWM, eg:
    aw create test
    define dim1 dimension text
    maintain dim1 add 'MEMBER1'
    report dim1
    define dim2 dimension text
    maintain dim2 add 'MEMBER1'
    report dim2
    aw detach test
aw delete testI hope this helps
    Thanks,

  • Can I pass the selected member at page dimension to form business rule?

I have a business rule which will be executed when the form get loaded, the business rule is very complex, so I want to narrow down the calculation by passing the selected member at page dimension to the business rule.
For example, I have year as page dimension, and I only want to calculate the selected year at one time? How can I do it?
I know runtime prompt, but I don't think it's a good way, since you need to select again.
    Thanks
    Tony

You can use a variable and a run time prompt.
You can set the business rule options in planning to "Use Members on Form" and "Hide Run time prompt"
This way the page/pov member will be passed into the business and into the variable.
    Cheers

  • Consolidate YTD Member in Scenario Dimension

    Hi All my Peers,
What Exactly the Purpose of " Consolidate YTD Member in Scenario Dimension. my Analysis is as bellow, please Guide me if my Thinking is Wrong and also is this Member Focus and Refer or Check or Cross Check with any other Member to Start its Execution?
Is Consolidated Member we can say and Understand easily. How to Understand Specifically Mentioned Member Consolidate YTD.?
By default we are using HFM For Consolidation as per our Customization.
Where exactly this Member Importance Comes in to Picture
Knowing to my Knowledge, Periodical data we will get every Month end from our ERP Systems
and one more concept Periodic automatically gets YTD,and YTD Automatically gets Periodic i am not able to understand how HFM Understand and do this. But i know Rollup,Aggregation,Immediate Parent,Ultimate Parent
I hope any of your answers will make me Clear on this attribute.

I am attaching an extract of ther post
The periodic or YTD consolidation of values is a matter of sequence. Note that the following discussion applies to Flow accounts (Income, Expense and Flow types).
When ConsolidateYTD flag of the scenario dimension is checked, HFM first consolidates the YTD values of accounts and then calculates the periodic values at the consolidated (group) level.
Conversely, when ConsolidateYTD flat is un-checked, HFM first consolidates periodic values of accounts and then at consolidated (group) level it forms the YTD amounts.
In both cases, whether you have loaded periodic or YTD values is irrelevant. The consolidation happens with the sequence described in each case above.
So, you think "what's the difference?". In fact there is no difference until you introduce a new subsidiary in the middle of the year. In this case you need to consolidate only the periodic values of accounts, starting on the month that the subsidiary was introduced to the group structure. If you don't the accumulated amounts from previous periods (YTD values) will consolidate, which you don't want.
For example: you introduce a new subsidiary during March. Until March the YTD value of sales was 100. During March the periodic value is 50, therefore the YTD sales for March is 150. You don't want to consolidate 150 since you did not own the company during the previous months. You need to consolidate only 50. In order to do this you have to populate the flow accounts for at least Feb so that HFM will calculate the periodic value for March correctly. In this case the contribution of the new subsidiary to the consolidated sales account for March is 50.

  • Is it possible to  add multiples dimension objects in Webi Ranking ?

As per the project requirement we need to convert custom sqls to reporting sql in webi 3.1 sp5 .
Is it possible to  add multiple dimension objects while applying ranking (Webi query panel ).
Or is there any other way to achieve this feature in BO ?
    Regards,
    Pranay

    Hi ,
There is a way if you want to apply ranking within a ranking . Below are the steps:
First on the outer side we can use the Rank feature which is available directly
Then use the Rank Function (=rank ()) and reset your dimension accordingly .
This kind of Ranking is possible.

  • Data File-- atleast one member from each dimension is it mandatory??

Is it mandatory to have atleast one member each dimension in the data file that is used for loading into the Cube?If we leave one member from a dimension is it going to create a problem? So, If I want to load with different data files for different members of measures & is there any way to avoid extraneous member ( from one Dimension, the reason is cuz there are 2 dimensions out of which one may need not be actually included in the text file ) in the data file??Your views about this will be appreciated!!Thanks

In a load rule file, you can create something called a header - which can be used to specify member(s) that do not appear in the data file.To specify a header, choose Options / Data Load Settings / Header Definition. The caveat is that you can only choose one member from the missing dimension - you cannot specify multiple members from the same dimension. If that is the case, then the members will have to be in the data file.Regards,Jade---------------------------------Jade ColeSenior Business Intelligence ConsultantClarity [email protected]

  • Is it possible to change the dimension order when extracting data from HFM?

    Hello,
When accessing Consolidation/Extract/Data is it possible to change the dimension order of the extract rather than extracting the standard order?
I can see you can change the dimension order visually by going to "Reorder dimensions" but this does not carry through to the actual extract.
If its not possible using this method is there another method? Trying to avoid using smartview for this purpose.
    Many thanks and kind regards,
    Rich

    Hi,
No, it is not possible to change the order type.

  • How to tag attribute member with standard dimension member in EIS

    hi,
would any one please help me how to tag attribute member with standard dimension member in EIS
    THANK U IN ADVANCE

In your OLAP model, view columns for the base dimension table. Go into the column properties and for the columns that have Attribute values highlight them and click the Attribute button.
Go into Metadata Model and those fields will be available to drag into your outline as attribute members.
Once in the outline, go into the properties of the attribute and assign the level of the base dimension they associate with.

  • In an Analyzer report how can I filter based on the last member of a dimension?

Using Analyzer 6.2.1What I'm trying to do is to create a report that shows always the last month available on the cube.I'd rather like to avoid having to add UDA or Alias or whatever in my outline. Is there a way to retrieve the last member of a dimension directly in Analyzer?

"Substitution Variables" can do what you are asking for.

  • Member block component only select dense dimension members

I used Calculation Manager to create Business Rule for Planning app. The Member Block component only show dense dimensions. Why?

Its trying to force you to write the calculation optimally. Calculations with sparse member blocks are much slower than dense dimension blocks. Even if you cannot select, you can always type in the sparse dimension member name. You dont need to use member selector.
