29.97 DV-NTSC cutting with 1920 X 1080 ProRes 422

I'm working on a documentary that was shot in multiple formats (RED, EX-1/3, DVCPROHD). I've converted everything to 1920 X 1080 Apple ProRes 422 23.98 (RED in HQ) and have been cutting in same sequence settings. I just got a hold of some stock footage that needs to be incorporated and was shot letter-boxed 4:3 (not anamorphic) DV-NTSC at 29.97.
I've been experimenting with different Compressor settings and can deal with the interlacing/artifacting problem pretty well, but can't seem to find a setting that interprets the motion properly. No matter what I do, I'm left with a jerky quality to the video that is off-putting and distracting. I've searched around the net for answers on this but can't seem to find exactly the right solution.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
It sounds like a field order problem, DV NTSC is lower field while I believe the rest of your footage will be upper field and you sequence settings will be set to upper field.

  • X200s: No support for 1920 x 1080

    Hi,
    I bought an 24" TFT with 1920 x 1080 resolution.
I connected it with an VGA-cable to my Ultrabase (docking-station).
The Problem now is, that I can Choose the resolution in the Intel Graphics Properties as well as in the Windows (Vista Business 32 bit) properties, but the Monitor show "Out Of Range"!
1600 x 1050 is working, but that not the native resolution of the monitor.
I already installed the newest Inter driver and did the latest BIOS-Update today, but the same problem.
    What to do?

    Hi bos,
    Welcome the the Lenovo forum
I agree with sveintore that digital video is preferable for the high resolution you're trying to run. As sveintore said, you could use a USB-> DVI adapter, or if you have an X200 UltraBase, a DisplayPort->DVI-D cable.
I also agree with lead_org, I think your X200s's analog video output is capable of driving the 1920x1080 resolution, but maybe the signalling between your video card and your monitor is not working optimally and you will have to manually specify the vertical refresh frequency (and possibly other timing parameters as well). You may be able to do this using the Intel graphics driver controls. Or you could try PowerStrip. But either way, you are likely to see display artifacts when driving such a high resolution with an analog signal.
    Good luck!

  • Does iMovie'08 import 1920 x 1080 at 1440 x 1080

After some thought the subject (Sony HDR SR11 resolution) of my last post yesterday may include all HD camcorders with 1920 x 1080 resolution. when iMovie'08 imports the files they are saved as quicktime movies. When played in quicktime and the details looked at in Movie Inspector (quicktime/window/show movie inspector) the format is shown as Apple Intermediate Codec 1440 x 1080,
    Does iMovie'08 import 1920 x 1080 at 1440 x 1080 and then output it at 1920 x 1080 ?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Look at this very interesting link about H.264 CODEC and web compression:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/qt_h-264_moviesfcp.html
As WEB involves many compression and smaller frame sizes, the quality will be on par for both formats.
iDVD will accept HD sequences movies from FCE but it will convert them to standard definition as it cannot output (authoring and burning) high def blu-ray DVD.
Look at this link (altough you don't have ProRes codec with FCE package...) about HDV limitation for DVD usage:

    Hello:
I am very much a novice with Final Cut.  I am trying to import some video files from  my desktop but keep getting an error message that says, "File error  1 file recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown".  The file type is .mov, 35MB, 1920 x 1080, Codec MPEG-2 video linear PCM timecode, color profile HD (1+1+1).  Can someone help?  Thanks, Paul

You can't import MPEG-2 files directly to FCP X.
Can you play this file in Quicktime Player? If so, then you can use the free program MPEG Streamclip to convert this to Quicktime. Use the ProRes codec.

  • Importing FCP Hi Rez from Final Cut with Encore Destination

I wonder if i could get some advise and comment on trying to get the best Blu Ray encode from Final Cut.
What I have done is this:
I have imported a 60 minute Quicktime FCP file into Premier CS4. (The file was imported as HDV video from a Canon XHA1 and converted in FCP to 422Hi Rez). I set Premier to HDV and not Quicktime before the import. When the import finished, I notice that playback was very jerky, so I rendered the whole time line. This took about 5 hours. Following this, play back was perfect.
So, what should my settings have been initially....might I have not set everything correctly. What settings should I have set initially?
(I have not figured out how to export a sequence directly from FCP which 4.01 is supposed to do.)
Now that it is play fine in Premier CS4  4.01, I am planning to use the dynamic link system to export into Encore CS4 .01 .  But before I do so, do I have to fill out copyright info in Premier...I noticed an area for this?
I chose this work flow because I did not want to use the FCP's Compressor for make a Blu Ray. I want to use Encore's H264 compression which produces a smaller file and thus less disc space. I do understand that I could have left out Premier altogether and gone directly from Compressor to Encore, but then I would not have had the H264 choice..;is this right...I am not entirely au fait with all the terms:)
So far, no crashes or weird behaviour. I am on a MacPro  Quad Core  2 Porcessor  2.8 GHZ processor.
    Tim

Thanks for the advice. I now have the project in Encore. While it played perfectly in Premiere, it cannot do so in Encore. Maybe this is because I have the settings set to the highest resolution- 1920 x 1080 and Blu Ray NTSC. I am trying to set up chapters and it is very jerky trying to get to the right place. Shou/ld I be doing this at a lower resolution and then changing things at the end?
Also I currently have DVD Transcode set to automatic and Blu-ray Transcode set to Automatic.
Are these settings going to look at the best on a 54" Samsung HDTV  1080i  ?  I notice a whole slew of choices in the drop down!!
I am ploughing through the Lynda.com tutorials, but some of these questions don't seem to be answered there.
I am planning on saving things to hard drive so I can test before burning...is this feasible on a mac?

  • I get 1888 x 1062 and not 1920 x 1080 with preset HDV 1080i

I have a QT movie in the Animation codec sized 1920 x 1080. Using QuickTime 7 Pro, if I export it to the Apple Intermediate Codec having set the compressor preset to HDV 1080i it produces a movie sized 1888 x 1062. Why?
    Thank you!

Thank you. I see that with aperture set to "Production" it does show the black frame making it up to 1920 x 1080.
When I import HDV 1080i video from my camera to Final Cut Express the files on the scratch disc are Apple Intermediate Codec. However they do not have this black frame and the size is 1920 x 1080. So it looks like FCE is not respecting this standard.

Filming on a Panisonic 24p camera but I imported it into final cut with a Sony HD camera. Will this mess up the quality of of my shots when I ad slow motion? I have noticed that the slow mo is a little chopy. PLEASE HELP!....

24p is captured with your standard "DV-NTSC" easy setup, whereas 24pA is captured with the "DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown" easy setup. Correct me if I'm wrong I still have yet to work in 24pA.

  • 1920 x 1080 in final cut (Lion Ruined MY mAC)

just installed lion, then spent 5 hours in apple store as it conflicted with my final cut editing suite. had to reload snow leopard to the mac then final cut. now i cannot change the compressor setting back to 1920 x 1080 with apple intermediate codec it is stuck on AIC 1440 x 1080. it shouldnt have a problems going back to the normal setting as its the smae one i have used for a year
i am sure that when i got the mac i changed it to 1920 by 1080 and there was not a problem but i have looked everywhere on final cut to change to timeline to the 1920 x 1080 AIC jpeg - photo as thats what i am used to and it just seems to work
Any thoughts would be grately thanked as i am sure i have done it before
    Cole

I thought that that after 4 hours of updates it should have done it but finally sorted it, plus the lack of food and drink affected my silly judgement.
Just wish that lion had not buttered it in first place

  • Is the LG 22EN33S-B 22-inch LED 1920 x 1080 VGA Monitor compatible with mac via a vga to thunderbolt connection

Is the LG 22EN33S-B 22-inch LED 1920 x 1080 VGA Monitor compatible with mac via a vga to thunderbolt adapter?

The 1080p and 1080i options only appear on the HDMI display settings, the display settings for the thunderbolt to vga adaptor has 1920 x 1080.
Via the HDMI output of the Mini via an HDMI cable to a HDMI input on the Samsung the display fills the screen but the text looks vile.
The options for picture adjustement on the samsung include fill screen as you suggest
Using the thunderbolt to VGA adaptor the text looks as it should, crisp and clear but the display is shitfted to the right.
The options for picture adjustment on the Samsung does not have the 'fill screen' option available when the VGA input is selected. However a new option called 'pc screen adjustment' appears and you can nudge the display over to the left a bit but not enough to cover the whole screen.
I remind you the pc worked perfectly 1920 x 1080 on the same VGA cable and input to the samsung.

  • Final Cut with new Macbook Air -what can I expect?

    Hi, I have the 2011 MBA 13", 4gig ram, i7, 256g SSD.
My hope is to use the latest Final Cut with the internal SSD drive to edit basic music videos and music interviews.
A typical project will have multiple angles filmed from a few DSLR's that I want to cut between, along with stereo music and one or two dialog tracks.  We're not doing any fancy digital tricks or trying to look cutting edge with technology -just fades between cuts, running some text on the screen.  The audio will be premixed in Pro Tools to Stero music + 1 or 2 spoken word mono tracks
I can save the final projects via the USB port to external hard drives, but for portablility I'd like to be ablle to work on the internal SSD.
Oh, and maybe someday someone will make something I can plug this Thundbolt cable into, lol.
    Is this realistic?

I would look for answers in the Final Cut Pro X forum.  Good luck.

  • How To Use Director's Cut with FCP

How do I use Director's Cut with Final Cut Pro? I know it'll work, but I just don't know how. I connect it and FCP says VTR connected, but then when I try to capture it it says to make sure device is in VTR mode.

Think you'll have to choose non-controllable device in fcp menu>AV Settings>Device Contol Preset tab.

  • Picture in table appears cut with thin lines

I'm working on my CV and now I'm hampered by the following misbehavior of Pages:
I made up a table with 7 rows and 3 columns. The 2 leftmost columns contain my personal data, the rightmost colum stretches over all rows and contains a picture of me. Now when I export the document, the picture appears cut with horizontal lines. As if the table rows cut the picture into pieces. Unusable.
    Anyone confirm this misbehavior?
    Is there a workaround?
And: how do I file this as a bug?

I apologize but I'm not a sooth sayer.
To which format are you exporting?
    Word or PDF ?

  • Problem with still image quality 1920 x 1080 HD Export

    Hey everyone ---
Question that I can't seem to find a clear answer for -- maybe you can help !
I am producing a film and am exporting it using the H264 setting, square pixels, CBR. Video quality is wonderful --- but I am having an issue with a still image. Essentially, I am importing an image of a film logo at the beginning of my film. The image is vector, dropped into photoshop from illustrator, saved as either an EPS or jpg, then I import that into the timeline. Once exported, video looks crisp and beautiful, but the logo at the beggining has slightly jagged edges and is NOT crystal sharp super clear as it should be or as it was saved as.
I've tried a few things but can't seem to get the formula right. I tried adjusting frame size, doesn't work. I tried bringing in a HUGE image and scaling it down, again, doesn't work. I've used many versions of premiere (since 6.0) and I don't remember ever having this sort of problem. I've tried all the frame sizes, from 1440 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080 (my source footage) and it just doesn't like to render the image crisply.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks !

Create a new .psd in Photoshop (using the Film and Video templates) that match your sequence settings.  Bring the vector image into PS and add it on a second layer to that new .psd.  Save out that .psd as a .png with no Interlacing.
Bring that into PP for use in the sequence.

  • Premiere CS6 crashes with 1920 x 1080p files

I have recently been using my Sony A77 SLR as a video source. I had no problems with MP4 files 1440 x 1080 to match my HDV cameras. Now I have tried AVCHD 1920 x 1080 files, Premiere crashes. I do not even have to edit anything. After loading files, then using the project bin to browse files by hovering with the mouse, the application will bomb after looking at a few files.

Hi Steven and Lasvideo. I am not sure that a short piece will help. I just brought in 4 selections from 400MB clips and it was OK. It then crashed when I double-clicked to load another for editing in the Preview window.
My system is Windows 7, i& with 12GB RAM and a Qudro 400 card. Premiere has just been updated to 6.0.3, but I still had the problem in 6.0.2. Waiting on a RAID array, so currently using internal drives or USB 3 externals. These have been fine for everything lse, including multicam of HDV with 6+ cameras.
I tried going back to the software, rather than GPU from the 400, but it made no difference. I also have discussion started about the NV Transmit windows popping up all the time, but no one has replied yet.
Have spent a lot of time with NVIDA helpdesk, trying to diagnose that problem, and have tried several drivers with no improvement.
