290x / z9z gaming 9 issue

Hi all,
I've just finished building new rig and the motherboard is not recognising either of the 290x's.  I've tried with one and switched them both but no joy.  Power is going to them as fans are spinning.
Build is i7-4790k, MSi Z97 Gaming 9 AC, MSi 4GB R9 290x Twin Frozr in CF, 16GB Kingston ram @ 2400mhz, 1000w Superflower Platinum, various SSDs
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Could remove the Cooler and put some new Thermal pads on the VRM's to see if it helps (Note you will have to redo the GPU thermal paste too as removing the cooler will mess it up! MX-4 is recommended for that as its ceramic and non electrically conductive)!
NOTE: Removing the Cooler will not void the warranty to fix a thermal issue or to use a Water cooler on the card so long as you do not cause any physical damage to the card itself and put all the stock stuff back on if you are forced to do a RMA (when you do water cool take off the cooler and put all the pads and screws in the cooler then wrap it in cling-film just in-case it develops a defect and has to be sent back for repair)!
    Thank you, badboy2k..
I think i have some MX-4 in my drawer.
So why do MSI use that warranty void stickers anyway?

  • Gaming issues and heat issues, running windows 8.1 pro via bootcamp

I have a few problems, and I don't know what else to do, then to write for help here..
I really hope someone out there can help me, because I have had this problem since I bought my laptop mid 2012, and I got smarter since then, so now I know that I actually shouldn't have these problems, it's not because my very expensive laptop is bad, or that it is a laptop or because it's a mac, regardless of what people say, I'm positively certain that it's a problem which shouldn't be there.
I have pretty great specs, (trust me i checked them out, not the best in the world, but pretty good) yet I can't enjoy 1 single mmorpg game like, Tera, or the new Archeage (currently in open beta), or any other game, (swordsman online)... Even though people say Tera has bad coding, I have tried adjusting things for weeks if not months, NOTHING helps, i get a frame rate that is from 0-25 very unstable, usually around 7-12, and sure if I go the lowest settings in the games I can get very unstable framerates but i guess they can get up to around 35-72 but drops to like 7 or 3 sometimes as well, so even on the LOWEST settings in the games I can't enjoy the games fully... It lags and such because of the low fps ofc...
Other than that it also have a heat issue, mostly when running windows 8.1 in bootcamp.
It get's quite hot, just by opening a browser window, and yes i have tried reseting smc, and p-rams, many times.. nothing seems to help.
And even if it helped the heat problem, the gaming problem is still there.
Now to my specs: (I have the macbook pro retina, mid 2012, 15 inch)
    - Prosseser: 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache. "Core i7" processor (3720QM)
    - Memory: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory
    - Storage: 256GB ssd flash storage. (Seperated into os x = 130GB, windows 8.1 pro = 120GB) Running games and such from my 1TB external harddisk.
    - Graphics and video support:
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors.
And here's a link to see what is inside it for yourself: http://http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core- i7-2.6-15-mid-2012-retina-display-specs.html
When that is said, apple's warranty has run out, and I didn't buy apple care, but I still have warranty from the store (humac) I bought it in, because in my country the law is warranty 2 years, no matter what, but if i can avoid it, I REALLY would like to avoid switching it out with a new one, since there could be problems all over again, and I would lose what I have on it right now, plus it's a hassle to get a new one, they will always try and fix it for a long long time before they give a new one, and probably can't find the problem...
But if that's the only thing i can do about it, I will ofc, but just don't advise me to do that, unless there's no other solution to the problems.
    Please help me.
ps: sorry if I posted it the wrong place, I wasn't allowed to post it the right place by apple...

If the underlying hardware was exposed correctly by the CSM-BIOS when Windows was installed, your Device Manager should look like this.
If the Windows installer did not see any devices as your screen indicates, Windows will use generic software-based drivers which will be very slow and painful.
Rudegar ... I think the Windows installer did not see  any hardware, otherwise there should be HW with yellow triangles with exclamation marks.

  • Z97-G45 Gaming ISSUES..

    Hi all..
I have the Z97-G45 Gaming board in my pc.. recently installed it.
I am trying to install windows 7 and having a nightmare with it.
The OS seems to install ok, when it comes to reboot to finish the installation I will get a BSOD
If then i reset it again it may boot up ok and get onto the desktop.
If I then shutdown the PC.. on next boot I get the EFI shell inferface and the SSD drive that I am installing to has dissappeared from the BIOS and I cant select it to boot from at all.
If I then turn off and on again, the SSD drive may re appear, system will boot. Then again, if turned off and on again the SSD drive seems to dissappear and I get the EFI shell again.
I have changed my SSD.. same problems happen.. I am on my 2nd motherboard now... same thing happening..
I have tried a new PSU.. same issues.. changed RAM and GPU same issues..
Flahed latest BIOS when I got windows to load but still same issues
Its driving me INSANE.. Can anyone shed any light on this problem for me?
    Thanks, Dan

If your XBOX is wired or Wireless to the Router?
If your XBOX are wireless then login to the router setup page and change the Wireless Channel on your Router to 1 or 11, and then under the Advance Wireless Settings tab change the Beacon Interval to 50 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2201 Change the RTS Threshold to 2202 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

Yes. After the update my "default" clocks changed somehow.

  • My online gaming issues

I got a Linksys WRT310N wireless router about 14 months ago. My computer, modem and router are upstairs and my TV, PS3 and Xbox 360 are downstairs. Everything was working fine until late February. One Sunday I couldn't get online with my Xbox. I figured it was just an issue at the moment with Live, but the following weekend I couldn't get online on Saturday or Sunday and it just kept getting worse in the weeks to follow.
During the time the PS Network was down I found I was able to get online with my 360 by jumping on other people's networks in my area that didn't need a password. The connection wasn't always great but at least it was something.
When the PS Network came back up I got serious about getting everything straightened out so I tried changing a bunch of settings on my router. All of the common suggestions: static IPs for consoles, port forwarding, etc. I was able to get on both consoles with my own network again, but it was way too slow to do anything. Images/icons wouldn't load and I couldn't download anything. Then last Saturday I tried adding my PS3 MAC address to the MAC filtering on my router's configuration page. After, I went to see if that did anything. I tried to download a Netflix update that I couldn't even come close to downloading before and it downloaded in like 5 seconds. So then I put my Xbox MAC address in too and Xbox Live worked great after. So it looked like my problem was solved.
The following morning I turned on the computer to go online and my connection speed showed that it had limited or no connectivity. I unplugged my modem and router, waited a bit, and plugged them back in, but it didn't solve anything. So I decided to just leave it alone for a while, thinking it might just be an issue with Time Warner for the moment. I went back 2 hours later and nothing had changed. It said the network did not assign a network address to the computer. I decided to give Time Warner a call.
After I told the woman I was speaking with that I already tried unplugging my router and modem she suggested I reset my router. I really did not want to do this as I had already spent so much time with it trying to get my gaming straightened out and I didn't want to lose the settings that were working for me the previous day. But it didn't really seem I had a choice and I was pretty sure I remembered all of the settings changes I made. So I reset the router and my internet connection for the computer was back.
So I went back in my router and made all of the changes for my gaming again and went to try both consoles. Both could get online but images/icons take forever to load again so I can't really do anything online and a few days later my computer was back to the "limited or no connectivity." I've reset my router countless times and tried changes in the settings but I still can't get anything to work for my consoles again. When I check my PS3 connection the signal strength is 95-100% but when I run the connection test it always fails when it gets to upload and download connection speeds. What are my options at this point? It is very frustrating.

Everything looks good, except I'm not sure why your PC lists the dns servers as 192.168.1.1. The only time I see a pc list the dns servers as the router's ip are when someone has loaded dd-wrt onto their  router and when they have selected dns masq. But you're still able to surf the web so I wouldn't worry about it. Since you have cable, all you should've had to do was select dhcp as the internet connection type and turned on upnp. Could you run ICET on internet explorer and see if you get any errors.
PS: IF you still can, edit out your default gateway that you posted under status page. You usually want to keep that private.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • MSI GTX 980 Gaming issue

    Hi everyone,
Recently I upgraded the BIOS of my msi gtx 980 gaming and i discovered an issue which I don't know how to fix.
I did upgrade my bios with the official bios from msi live updater 6.
    old bios was nv317mh.112
    new bios is nv317mh.113
    The problem:
My boost clocks were somehow changed and i don't understand why...
before the update my boost clocks were the normal 1291(gaming) and 1317(OC)
after the update my boost clocks changed to 1329(gaming) and 1357(OC)
I did reinstalled the 112 version again and see if it could fix but it didn't fix this issue
I don't have any profile or OC in my msi afterburner.
GPU-Z shows the normal clocks (1291/1317) and my afterburner shows the modified clocks(1329/1357).
They were syncronized before the update.
My card is v317-03S so the bios should be right.
Pls help i don't understand what's causing this issue...

  • Gaming Issues.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help.
I recently bought, and had installed BT broadband, and for the first week, no issues whatso ever, such a blessing from the **bleep** we had with AOL, however, last night about 11pm, online gaming become almost unplayable, it lagged all over the place, and every twenty minutes or so, the connection would drop completely.
The general experience we have had, have reported no problems, surfing the net, is still as quick as day one, only online gaming. I tried it again this morning, and the same results, it lags something awful. I was just wondering, if anyone had any set up tips, or any solutions to our problem. this is a brand new thing, for the first week, it was smooth sailing, now, this, very annoying.
Any helpful tips would be most welcome.
    Thanks for your time.
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1679 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :5984 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 5000 Kbps

Is it just a particular game that you're having issues with, or gaming in general?
Is it worse at weekends than during the week (ie, does the lag get worse earlier)?
Are you using a PC or a console (there are tools you can use on the PC to help work out what's happening)?
I had a similar problem, sometime last year during peak hours my ping would go from ~200-300ms all the way up to ~1.6million ms (that's ~). It turns out that after my section of BT's network was upgraded to 21CN (we live out in the sticks, so it wasn't done until a year or two ago) the "more intelligent" 21CN hardware was incorrectly classifying the gaming traffic as encrypted bittorrent traffic & "managing" it into oblivion.
What I did (to prove it was BT's network, rather than my end or the server I was connecting to) was to get some ping/download speeds (using BT's test) during the evening, check to see if anyone else is having similar issues if it's related to a specific game and just wait/get more data until you get escalated. IIRC, I also used some packet capture software on my PC to show that the game traffic was encrypted & which port it was using.
It may take some time to get some help, but the forum staff here are useful/helpful.

  • [290x] MSI Gaming App error "The platform does not support this application."

Using the latest AMD Omega drivers, I am unable to launch the Gaming App and am presented with this error -  "The platform does not support this application."
I have tried downloading Gaming APP 3.0.0.16.zip from another post on the topic but I am receiving the same error. The only other thing I've seen as a 'solution' is to install the drivers from the MSI support page for my card - however this is version 14.4 and is over 3 months old, I don't really think that's a viable solution.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Is your vga driver 14.12? Any other settings changed?
Do you have any other msi or vga software installed?
Can you do a fresh re-install OS and what's the language of your OS?
Yes, Catalyst Omega. No other software or hardware changes.
Yes MSI Afterburner. Have tried uninstalling and installing gaming app, have also not had it running when trying to launch MSI Gaming app. No joy there.
No I can't, that's not really an option for a piece of software like this which worked before but doesn't since the latest AMD driver updates.
    Quote from: JLio01 on 07-January-15, 16:07:38
Since your motherboard is not the supported gaming series mobos, there might be something detected wrong with your card. The error message shown if neither motherboard nor vga is supported in Gaming App. I suggest use AMD Catalyst Clean Uninstall Utility to totally uninstall the current driver:
    http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16748/
and re-install the latest driver 14.12. I have no problem using Gaming App 3.0.0.16 with my R9 290X, hope you too.
I have never seen anything stating that you need a supported gaming series motherboard to use the MSI Gaming App - maybe for other features if it has any, but the gaming app I used when I got my card was a little box with a few options for the GPU on it. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver already unfortunately, using both AMD CCUU and a second attempt with DDU. No change at all, the exact same error message.
But as I've said, the fact that there is more than one person reporting this and older drivers make the gaming app work, it's definitely a software ended problem on certain configurations. I have installed driver 14.4 now and can once again use the gaming app, just as someone with a different card and different motherboard has stated in another thread. xxhttps://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251885.0xx this solution however is not really acceptable.

Driver is the 13.12. WHQL version
    Windows 7 SP1 x64
I am experiencing a problem in games, to describe it best I will describe it per case:
In Diablo 3 there are moving horizontal lines that go from top to bottom, V-Sync option has no effect on this whatsoever, neither is downclocking of the core speed, undervolting via CCC overdrive, changing of VGA cable, nor the adapter change.
In War Thunder they don't move top to bottom, but do jump up and down.
Crysis 2 has the same issue as War Thunder, horizontal lines "vibrating", I should add it looks as if though it is electronic noise in the signal in a way.
Other games with horizontal line "vibrating" are Warface, Path of Exile.
On the other hand, Starcraft II has no issues whatsoever, along with Ridge Racer, Red Alert 3, Tribes Ascend.

  • NAT/Gaming issue on Motorola NVG510

I've run into this problem before and it has eventually solved itself, but I thought I'd see if there's a better solution out there.  When I go into NAT/Gaming and select a service and then click the drop-down box for "Needed by Device", I see only a partial list of the available IP addresses on the network.  Frequently it does not have the one I want and it is a fixed list so I am unable to type it in.  The IP address I want to add DOES show up in the Device List.  As I said, if I exit out and come back some other time, it will fix itself and show all IP's, but it is annoying to have to do that!  Thanks for any help anybody can provide.

  • XP Sudden Restarts No Error Logs (yes, another gaming issue)

    Hi all -
Seems lots of people are having crashing issues running games on XP in Boot Camp. And I'm one of them. My specific question is, how can we tell if the Apple hardware itself is forcing a restart (say, to avoid overheating) vs. Win XP forcing a restart?
My theory is that since I have Automatic Restart turned off in XP, and there are no relevant error messages I can find in Event Viewer, and no minidump file I can find in the system anywhere, and I never get a BSOD, that the crashing/restarting is happening at a level somehow below Windows. Does that make sense to anyone? Could this be possible even if the issue is audio or video driver related, or would this just be a heat or bad memory or some such issue?
This is a practically brand new Win XP partition with new Boot Camp 2.0 drivers, with almost every non-essential service or app I can think of turned off (hasn't helped it not crash). This particular game is Myst URU, but it sounds like it could be any game that puts demands on the computer.
The computer passed hardware tests recently, and I have no issues to speak of on the Mac side. So I doubt it is memory or hard drive related.
As others have related with other games, it will play fine for a while, then all of a sudden it freezes, often with a stuck/looping sound (but not necessarily), waits for a few seconds, then restarts Windows with no other error messages or logging I can find. A typical evening of playing for an hour or two involves anywhere from 2 or 3 to more than 5 self-restarts.
Well, at least I know there are plenty of others in the same boat....

I think you may have more than one problem. It sounds like you have some bad memory sticks, but you also have a corrupt OS installation. Check your risers for red LED's indicating faulty RAM. Run the Apple Hardware Test, extended version, looking for the same thing. Remove any RAM that isn't working, and make sure the remaining RAM is installed in the right arrangement for your model.
Then back up all data and reinstall the OS. After reinstalling, run Software Update.
