2960s Link-Flap issue.

I've recently had a few ports on 48 way 2960s go in to err mode.
Bit of digging and they have been disabled due to link flapping. I disconnected the devices to check cables etc and all checked out. I've since repatched in another stacked 2960s without issue.
The switch with the issue seems to have got progressively worse, what started with a couple of ports now has gone to gi1/0/33-40 are now disabled due to flapping.Even though none of the ports are now in use. I've restarted the switch just in case it was having a special moment but no luck.
show log displays
000062: Dec 17 19:30:19.490: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: link-flap error detected on Gi1/0/40, putting Gi1/0/40 in err-disable state
Switch attempts to recover after 300s with no luck. Just to confirm there is nothing patched in to the effected ports.
Any suggestions or is it it RMA time.

Hello Leo Laohoo,
Thank you for the quick reply,
I mentioned earlier in the thread that I've unpatched and tested the cables and have moved the devices in to another switch all working fine. Ports also have recover on too, and still are in error mode.
Below is test result on one port which shows fine.

    Dear Folks,
I am working with a IT organization as network administrator, at client site we are getting the MAC FLAPPING issue since 1 month, due to that some time it completely down my whole network. Scenario is like that, we are using Ruckus AP and Zone director as a WLAN controller which is directly conecteted with our core switch. Rest of indoor AP's are connected with Distribute and access switch. Now since 1 month we are getting in core switch below mention notification -

As mentioned in msg 12 & 13 VLAN is our WLAN.
After getting this msg automatically all network goes down, I need to shut down the associated port winch is directly or indirectly connected with AP, and after some time it will work properly.
Now I need some mechanism which can be block the duplicate source mac address to preventing from this kind of scenario.
    Regards,
    Shekhar

    Hi Devils,
    Answer is in below -
    1. Are those MAC addresses actual Wireless Hosts? i.e have you traced them?
= Yes, those are actual wireless MAC add, I have check in zone director controller.
    2. Are the SSID's set to tunnel?
    =No
    3. Do you have one ZoneDirector or two?
=Two, both of them are connected with core switch.
I have been confirmed about that  if wireless users are roaming between two AP or more it will appear the same error msg, now what would be the solution. ????
    What extly the solution is?>
Where should i implement the solution on switch or zone director?
    Please suggest!!!!!

  • Link-flap faulty port

    Hi,there
I have a Catalyst 2950 switch which was connected to a 3620 Cisco router. The router had hw problems and was repaired. After that,I tried to connect the repaired router to the 24th port of the switch, where it was.But the LED was off and I saw the port was in err-disable state because of link-flap.I've connected my router to the 22nd port of the switch and everything was fine. The 22nd and the 24th port have the same configuration now.I've entered the "no shut" command on int 24 but the state remained err-disabled.I've entered the err-disable recovery interval 30 but the output of sh errdisable detect recovery was ErrDisable Reason Timer Status
    udld Disabled
    bpduguard Disabled
    security-violatio Disabled
    channel-misconfig Disabled
    vmps Disabled
    pagp-flap Disabled
    dtp-flap Disabled

    gbic-invalid Disabled
    dhcp-rate-limit Disabled
    unicast-flood Disabled
    loopback Disabled
    Timer interval: 30 seconds
Interfaces that will be enabled at the next timeout:

Is there a hw problem with the port because of the faulty router in the past?Or is there another way to re-establish the state of my port so I can use it?Thank you for your time!

I would not think this is an hardware issue. To restore port, you need to do a shut first and then no shut. For automatic recovery, you need to configure "errdisable recovery cause all" or "errdisable recovery cause link-flap".

  • WLC 5508 reboot cause switch port link flap error disable

    Hi All
today my customer call me saied after reboot WLC , the switch port was err-disable , the cause is link flap
after we reboot 3 times , the switch port link flap err-disable every time
does anyone to meet the same problem??
we don't know why the WLC rebboot will cause it , it just normal action on device
    the WLC version is 7.4.100.0
link switch with access port , no port channel , no portfast
    Asa Hung          2013/05/30

    Hello Asa,
As per your query i can suggest you the following solution-
Complete these steps to reset the WLC to factory default settings using the CLI:
Enter reset system at the command prompt.
At the prompt that asks whether you need to save changes to the configuration, enter Y or N. The unit reboots.
When you are prompted for a username, enter recover-config to restore the factory default configuration.
The WLC reboots and displays the  Welcome to the Cisco WLAN Solution Wizard Configuration Tool message.
Use the configuration wizard to enter configuration settings.
Note: Once the WLC is reset to defaults, you need a serial connection to the WLC in order to use the configuration wizard.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Pdf links & dropbox issues

    Hi ,
I got this problem, some of my hyperlinks (downloadable pdf) are not displayed when i'm testing my site, the new window open but nothing happen
I wonder, may be its because I've put them in my dropbox in first place ?
I noticed dropbox link have issues to, link can't be downloaded
How to do it , link pdf file properly ?
    Thanks

You don't need to use Dropbox to host your PDFs for download, Muse will do this natively for you.
    >In Deisgn Mode click on the text image, etc thato you want to be your active link to download.
    > In the toolbar at the top of the page click the drop dowb menu next to "Hyperlinks"
    > Scroll down to "Files" section, then to "Link to File" and then navigate on your HD to where your PDF is. This then links that PDF up and when you upload your site to a testing site or to your server, the PDF will be included in the upload to then be downloaded by your users.

  • [RSTP] Modifying Timers to avoid link flap related issues?

    Hi All + ftallet :-)
    Assume the following scenario;
There are two links between two switches. The primary link fails, RSTP cuts over to the secondary link. Now, the primary comes up for 10 seconds, and goes down again.
    Question:
    1. Is there a feature that can overcome this problem? E.g. adjust some timer to say 60 seconds, such that the primary link has to be working for 60 seconds before reverting to it.
    2. Better still is there a feature that sends 'hello' style packets to check if a link is up for 60 seconds before reverting to the primary link? (like tracking in a 1800 series router )
I really only need to know if such features exist, and if they do, what are they called so I can search for it and read about it.
    Cheers
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
I don't know of any such protocol. It would not be so complex to implement something that plays around with the STP cost of an interface based on its recent history though...
STP's memory does not go beyond max age. Uplinkfast is able to prevent an uplink that went down from becoming active immediately for some few additional seconds, but there nothing configurable there.
Finally, there is a solution called "flexlink", that basically keeps an interface blocked as a backup for a primary. If the primary fails, the backup interface goes forwarding. If the old primary comes back up, it becomes a backup interface...
That's all I can think of, which is not much you see;-)

  • Fcip link flapping priodically

We have a 9509 at the HQ site and a 9216 in the DR site connected via a DS3.
There are preiodic times when the fcip link will flap and come back up, sometimes it will continue for minutes and has happened for several hours with this error:
    %PORT-5-IF_DOWN_TCP_MAX_RETRANSMIT: %$VSAN 50%$ Interface fcip1 is down(TCP conn. closed - retransmit failure)
originally the fcip profile was configured for 1000 max bandwidth and it was suggested to change it to something closer to the DS3 and this change was made:
    fcip profile 1
    ip address 10.1.2.1
    tcp max-bandwidth-mbps 41 min-available-bandwidth-mbps 30 round-trip-time-ms 4
    tcp send-buffer-size 5000
It made no difference at all. There is connectivity to the DR site during the flapping, I can see the bandwidth spike up, but there should be plenty to handle the load during the flapping.
Last night the serial interface of the DS3 was showing the tx load 65/255 and rx was 5/255 during the problem.
I am wondering, would the "min bandwidth" setting cause a "retransmit failure"?
That seems like more of a tcp/ip issue that an interface configuration issue, but I cannot find any reason for the flap.
No interface errors, but I have seen the ping response times go from 3ms to 25ms during this time, an indication of congestion somewhere.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
There ar no errors on any of the interfaces for the DS3 or the fcip.

    thanks for the reply,
Where do I make these changes and can you explain the logic behind them?
"enabling ip compression" I think compression is enabled in mode1 if I remember correctly
"and disabled fccit" what does this do?
"change the Rx buffer to defaults 16" is this in place of:
    tcp send-buffer-size 5000
Are you talking about 16K rather than 5K?

  • Mac-flap issue

    Hi,
I have 16 switches and 3 servers in my network. In server room,i have one cisco WS-C2960S-48TS-L and one WS-C2960S-24TS-L connected to each other. Two eth ports of each server are being timmed and connected to the 2 switches.Every thing is fine but i am getting mac-flap log in both switches.can anyone tell me how can i stop this?
48TS-L is the root bridge of the network and there is only 1 vlan in the network.all the ports are in same vlan of both switches.
here is a sample of the logs of both siwitches :-

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello
It occurs when you have a loop between the switches relating to ports bypassing the stp process and enter forwarding state either due stp being turned off or having portfast enabled.
when you have a server connectiing itself to two switches on portfast enabled ports, this can cause this type of issue you are seeing- Check if this is the case and disable the portfast feature on those ports
For trunk ports or if port aggregation check the link negotiation type (usually LACP for servers)  is applied the same on both sides of the etherchannel and teamed server nics

  • VPC trouble - link flapping between C3750 stack and Nexus 5596

    Hi All,
I have configured 1 vPC's between 2 Nexus 5596 and 1 stack C3750 switch. The links in the stack are distributed over both members.
    Gi1/1/1  -> Eth 1/44  NX 5596-02
    Gi 2/1/1 -> Eth 1/45  NX 5596-02
    Gi 1/1/2 -> Eth 1/46  NX 5596-01
    Gi 2/1/2 -> Eth 1/47  NX 5596-01
The same logic is for another stack C3750 to the same pair of Nexus 5596 switches.
The problem is that the links from the vPCs keep flapping at random moments - 1-2 times per hour.
The network is not loaded at this time and the same issue is on both vPC's.
the flaps in the nexus 5596 looks like this
    %ETH_PORT_CHANNEL-5-PORT_DOWN: port-channel108: Ethernet1/44 is down
%ETH_PORT_CHANNEL-5-FOP_CHANGED: port-channel108: first operational port changed from Ethernet1/44 to Ethernet1/45

    %ETH_PORT_CHANNEL-5-PORT_UP: port-channel108: Ethernet1/44 is up
%ETHPORT-5-IF_UP: Interface Ethernet1/44 is up in mode trunk
On the stack is just up/down the pair interface.
I started few debugs on the stack and captured the folowing output:

  • Mini Displayport to Dual-Link DVI Issues on 30" Cinema Display

I know this problem has been around for a while, and that there are several other discussion on it, but my goal here is to point out that even in mid-2011, this issue remains.
    Here's my configuration:
    30" Cinema Display
Dual-link MDP to DVI adapter with 1.03 firmware (purchased August 2011 from an Apple Store)
New-ish MacBook Pro (purchased December 2010) with Mini Displayport
    Symptoms:
On dark areas of the screen, DVI noise appears (horizontal flickers of light coming and going at random)
    Attempted Fixes:
Unplugging the display and plugging it back in to the computer (failed)
    Restarting the computer (failed)
Tightening the connections on the Dual-Link DVI adapter (failed)
Sleeping the display and awaking it (failed)
Some suggest getting a new 27" Cinema Display with native Mini Displayport/Thunderbolt support. I actually have one, but I cannot tolerate the glare on the glossy displays, so I'm "downgrading" to a 30" Cinema Display.
Is there any remaining hope for this issue?

I still cannot understand why you would return everything... Ultimately you want this computer right? Once the bugs on the adapter are fixed are you gonna go back and re-buy it?
Seems like a lot of time spent out of spite and not for good reason. Me, this is the best Mac I've ever owned (and I've owned many. no, really.) and I'm happy to wait for this adapter w/ this machine in stead of going back to my other box.
I observed a similar client of mine w/ an iPhone... after the first week, he didn't like the keyboard and a few other things, so he took it back and went back to using his Blackberry -only to dump the Blackberry again for the iPhone, because he realized that the iPhone still did more things better than the Blackberry.

  • OBIEE 11g Action Link translation issue

    Hi All,
I have a translation issue with the Action links in OBIEE 11.1.1.5 version.
The pop-up which is displayed on clicking the column having action link is not getting translated. This seems to be the issue with all the action links.
All other catalog objects, captions etc are translated properly.
Has anyone faced similar issues ? Is there a workaround for this ?
    Thanks for any pointers.

Action links are not getting translated. I faced a similar problem in OBIEE 11.1.1.6 version.
What you can do is replace that action link with a 'link or image' option in dashboard objects.
'Link or Image' types of object get translated in OBIEE 11.1.1.5 as well as OBIEE 11.1.1.6 version.
    hope this helps.

  • View Link Editor Issue - empty query clause if based on association

    JDeveloper 10.1.2
    Setup:
    - entities A and B
    - a 1 to * association from entity A to entity B (A_B_association)
    - a view of A based on entity A (AView)
    - a view of B based on entity B (BView)
    - BView has an expert mode query
Create a view link from table A to table B:
    - choose the A_B_association under AView for the source attribute
    - choose the A_B_association under BView for the destination attribute
    - click add
    - click next
issue: the query clause is empty
    - click next:
    info dialog pops up;
    title = "Business Components"
message = "Restoring the default where clause."
Note, however, that creating a view link based on the attributes works. That is, if I choose the primary key attribute under AView for the source attribute, and the corresponding foreign key attribute under BView for the destination attribute, then the wizard generates the expected query clause.
If I create a new project and recreate the entities, the views, and the association, then I can successfully create a view link based on the association. The foreignKey value on the association end was different in the new association XML file.  I modifed the old XML file so that it used the same foreignKey element, but that did not seem to work.
I am guessing that this is some sort of user error on my part or that we have otherwise managed to squat up our XML files.
Any tips, hints, or ideas appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    The problem is in AView.
We had modified the AView at one point, then reverted it to a default view of entity A. Here, "a default view" means that we undid our custom changes (apparently not thoroughly enough); that is, we did not delete it and create a default view from scratch using the contextual menu on the A entity.
The bottom line is that the AView attributes were not being mapped to the entity -- they were showing up as calculated attributes.
We created a "New Default View Object..." from the contextual menu of entity A, then manually corrected the AView.xml file to solve the problem.
