2960S physical port question

Recently added a member to existing stack, everything went as planned.  However I noticed on one the member (that existed already) that port 37-48 are not working.  From how it looks, it seems that ports 37-48 could be one module.  Is there away to run a diagnostic on this bank of ports, possibly clear or reset them?  Thanks

Can you post the output to the command "sh post"?

  • Management port in Cisco Switches (are they really physical port)

    Hi all,
I have been taught to console into my cisco switch for configurations through console cable + putty (serial terminal).
Then I have been taught to configure a management ip and gateway on the cisco switch.
    Switch# conf t
    Switch(config)# interface vlan 1
    Switch(config-if)# ip address 192.168.1.11 255.255.255.0
    Switch(config-if)# no shut
    Switch(config-if)# exit
    Switch(config)# ip default-gateway 192.168.1.1
All the while, i thought this is the way to remote in to the switch via putty/telnet through the network to configure the switch, until i saw the picture below (cisco catalyst 2960)
    =======================================
There is a physical port call ethernet management port.  What is it ?   What is the difference between this port and the earlier example of setting a management ip in VLAN 1 ?
If i set an IP on this particular interface and I ssh in, will i see the same screen/display/console from the earlier example in which i set a management ip in VLAN1 and I ssh in ?

    Hi Leo,
Sorry if you find it hard to explain to me.
I have understood to think of the ethernet management port as a separate entity from the original switch.
Maybe with the help of the diagram below, can you let me know if i have understood correctly ?
*please assume connected port is a management port separated from the normal switch ports
q1) does the ethernet management port need to be connected to another switch ?
I have thought of it as a device on the network and it is mentioned by you previously that it will be connected to a switch
"he traffic goes up the cable connected to the Management port and up a switch.  Now that switch holds all the information because it is a switch.  "
q2) In the current setup then, terminal B will be able to access the management port - am i right ?
q3) you mentioned that the management port is not able to set any gateway, (which is the router fe0/5 - 192.168.0.3 in my illustration), in that case do you mean that terminal A will not be able to access the management port remotely and it can only be accessible locally ?
Please do correct me if my understanding is wrong.
Thank you so much for your advices.

  • Trunk Vs physical port

Guys can someone plz tell me what is the difference between using subinterface and physical interface for example if i have four DMZ and i take ether1 and then subdivide them in four and trunk it to the swicth (with port channel)....th eother scenario is that i take each physical link and make seprate DMZ (apart from redudnacy) what is the difference and what does cisco recommends or what is teh security say on this guy plz jhelp as cant get my head around

    Hi Guroo,
As such there are no specific recommendations, it all depends on your requirements, if you have 4 vacant ports available and do not have any future requirements then you can use individual physical ports, but if you have any issues, then you can easily make 4 sub-interfaces on the ASA physical port, just make sure not to use that physical ports to pass the traffic.

  • WLC2106 - is there a limit of 1 physical port per SSID/WLAN?

Since SSID/WLAN are assigned to a VLAN/Interface, and VLAN/Interfaces are assigned to a physical port, does that mean, on a WLC2106, a WLAN is limited to 100 mbs, the speed of a single port?
How can I add more bandwidth per WLAN? What's the workaround?
On a WLC4400, it is not an issue since the two 1-GIG ports can be made into an etherchannel.
    thanks

    Few things...
Given that one AP will never really push more than 18Mbps of real throughput anyway (yes, even if all clients are running at 54Mbps), I'd be surprised if you actually have any contention worth worrying about.
Create multiple interfaces on the WLC, and using Group Mappings ("AP Groups VLAN"), you can then assign each AP to a different group. Presuming you set each group to use a different VLAN for a given SSID, and also presuming that each VLAN is configured for a different physical interface, you then get more than enough bandwidth (ie, 100Mbps per AP).
Other option is to use H-REAP, which is a mode of operation that allows your LWAPP AP to behave like an IOS AP, ie, client traffic is dumped stright on to the network without being forced thruogh the controller. This has obvious knock-ons about what the WLC can / can't do w.r.t. monitoring / controlling client traffic.

    Richard.

  • Programmatically identifying com ports by their physical port number

I have a system with a NI PXI 8420/16 card.  Once in a while a glitch in my PXI system occurs such that my physical RS-232 ports get re-assigned different com port numbers.  Then I have to go into MAX and reassign my aliases to re-align my LabVIEW application with my port hardware.  Is there a way to stop these glitches from happenning?  OR is there a way to programmatically identify a physical port's com number?
    Solved!

  • Not enough physical ports - error message??

    Hi
I just started to get an error message dialog box when I open Soundtrack Pro on my quad core G5. The message says "the current output device does not have enough physical ports for this document. Some outputs may not play back as a result".
I don't understand this - can anyone help. If I click OK then for sure, not audio comes out of STP.
Running version 1.1 on OSX 10.4.10
This hasn't happened before. It happens either when I open a new STP file with nothing in it, or when sending from FCP.
    Thanks
    Neil

First of all, thanks for the replies.
I gave it another try today; I deleted the old files and ripped them to my computer again, this time using Windows Media Player instead of iTunes. I tried transferring them to my iPod again and this time it worked. As always iTunes had to convert them to files that it could read, but then it took just a few seconds and all of them made it to my iPod.
I don't know what the problem was the first time around. I checked the file sizes, and the largest was 4.2 MB. There were about 11 songs. It was just a typical audio CD and its total length was 44 minutes.
I guess from now on I'll just import CDs with Windows Media Player and then let iTunes convert them so that I can have even more files on my computer. Oh well. If that's what it takes... Sometime when I have a lot of time to fool around I'll try to see if something is going wrong when I'm importing them with iTunes.
    Thanks again for the responses!

  • Mapping pWWNs to physical port

I am about to connect up a bunch of V445s with StorageTek PCI-X 4GB HBAs to a SAN solution. Before I can do that, I need to map my pWWNs to the physical support, so our cabling people can connect the bits of wire to the appropriate holes.
I've got the list of pWWNs, now I need to know how to map them to the physical ports. What I want to end up with is a diagram which has the pWWN and an arrow pointing to a particular port on a particular HBA.
Any ideas how I do this?
    TIA
    Stuart

    Stuart,
    Give this a try.
    ....# prtpicl -v | fgrep -e 'scsi-fcp
    ....> devfs-path
    ....> wwn'
You will get more than just HBA info but it will be easier to wade through than the entire prtpicl -v. Either way once you've captured the output, search on <scsi-fcp>. Here is a sample using the above filter.....
    SUNW,qlc (scsi-fcp, 2e0500000343)
    :device_type scsi-fcp
    :node-wwn 20 00 00 e0 8b 12 3e a7
    :port-wwn 21 00 00 e0 8b 12 3e a7
    :devfs-path /pci@1f,4000/SUNW,qlc@2
    :_class scsi-fcp
It should be a simple matter to match up the pci slots after that.

  • Port-channel "bouncing" but physical ports are not

Refer to the attached PDF for topology diagram and configuration information.
Here's the issue.  According to the logs on DC2-5548-P1 and DC2-5548-P2, port-channels Po3107 and Po3108 are going down numerous times.  However, in the same timeframe, the physical interfaces are not reporting any down/up events at all.  This issue began just a few days ago.  Before that, the systems were operating fine.
NOTE: Po29 is the vPC peer link between P1 and P2.
UPDATE:  I totally missed this in the logs somehow but the 5Ks are showing that the physical ports are bouncing.  "show interface" output shows the "interface reset" counter incrementing on the physical ports.  This problem started in two separate environments 9 minutes apart at approx 01:52 AM on the 16th of March.  I'm wondering if there was a power event of some sort which caused physical damage to the hosts.  Seems kind of odd that 3 servers started having similar issues within 9 minutes of each other in two 5K environments.

    Hi,
Putting the EtherChannel to the "on" mode will force the ports to become bundled unconditionally but the true problem, then, is truly seeing if it works. The Cisco switch will happily keep the ports bundled and will even transmit data over these ports but how do we know if Oracle is happy with that and does the same?
Personally, I would not recommend using the "on" mode precisely because of lack of any indication that things are operating just as they should, unless it can be shown without doubts that Oracle runs without LACP and uses a static EtherChannel.
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • 2960 Stack Port Channel Question

    I have a 2960 stack with 2 WS-C2960S-48FPD-L distribution switches running c2960s-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE2.bin.
I then have three stand alone 2960S-48 access switches running the same code.
I will have two ten Gig uplinks in a port-channel back to a 6500. I have this config. however
I  would like to have port-channel between each of the distribution  switches in the stack and each of the stand alone access switches.
    So as an example:
distribution switches: port 1/0/48 and 2/0/48 in port channel 1
    access switches: 1/0/51 and 1/0/52 in channel-group 1 active
Am I right in thinking that because these port channels come off of two different switches in a 2960 stack that they need to be LACP and the ports on the access switches need to be in "channel-group X active". And does it need to be in active mode on both sides?
    Thank You in advance

Yes, both sides must have identical channel mode.

  • Packet drops on 2960 with port-security enabled

    Hello,
We are using the following port-security configuration on user access ports on Cisco 2960 switches, in order to protect the infrastructure to prevent MAC flooding attacks:
switchport port-security maximum 10 switchport port-security switchport port-security aging time 1 switchport port-security violation restrict switchport port-security aging type inactivity
There is a problem with the more "quiet" hosts, especially in technology - every time the MAC address ages out, the first packets (an ARP request usually) sent by the host is dropped by the switch. There is no violation logged, the switch should be OK to forward the packets but doesn't:
    Port Security              : EnabledPort Status                : Secure-upViolation Mode             : RestrictAging Time                 : 1 minsAging Type                 : InactivitySecureStatic Address Aging : DisabledMaximum MAC Addresses      : 10Total MAC Addresses        : 0Configured MAC Addresses   : 0Sticky MAC Addresses       : 0Last Source Address:Vlan   : 0011.aabb.ccdd:11Security Violation Count   : 0
When port-security is turned off, all packets are forwarded without trouble. This is happening on both WS-C2960-24TT-L and WS-C2960-8TC-L, with IOS 12.2(35)SE1 and 12.2(50)SE5, respectively. I didn't check other models yet.
I have found similar reports and bugs for the 2950 and 3750:

    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCeg63177
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCec21652
Is there anything we can do to fix this?
Is there an access switch that would not suffer from this problem? (Like 2960-S maybe?)
    Thank you.

    Hi Alioune,
This is expected behaviour on the Nexus 1000v Ethernet interfaces when the uplinks are configured with MAC pinning.
When using MAC pinning there's no special configuration of the ports on the upstream physical switches and so any broadcast packets are sent by the upstream switches on all uplinks towards the Nexus 1000v switch.
On each VEM of the Nexus there's one uplink interface that is chosen as the Designated Receiver for broadcast traffic, and the function of the DR is to forward received broadcast traffic to VMs within the VLAN. The broadcast traffic received on any other uplinks of the VEM i.e., those that are not the acting as DR, drop the received broadcast traffic on ingress to the VEM.
The drops you're seeing on the uplink interfaces are almost certainly the broadcast traffic being received on one or more non DR uplinks.
    Regards

  • 2960-S ports gi1/0/49-50 and te1/0/1-2

This is probably a stupid question for those who are familiar with Cisco hardware but I can't find any documentation on this.  I have a Catalyst 2960S-48FPD-L (48 1000baseT and 2 SFP+ 10G ports).  When looking at the configuration I see gi1/0/49 and 50 as well as te1/0/1 and 2.  I'm assuming the SFP+ ports are the te1/0/1 and 2 ports but where are gi1/0/49 and 50?
The only thing I can think of is that when using SFP modules they are gi1/0/49&50 when using SFP+ modules they are te1/0/1&2.
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/49
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/50
    interface TenGigabitEthernet1/0/1
    interface TenGigabitEthernet1/0/2

    All,
I have this new stack of Catalyst 2960XR switches, two of which have the two SFP+ ports on the far right hand side that I'm trying to use as 10GB ports for storage networking. However, it's not clear to me (even after reading through reams of Cisco setup guides, including the one above in this thread) how to tell the config that I'd like to use these as 10GB (te#/0/1-2) rather than extra Gigabit ports (Gi#/0/49-50). I've tried a few things to make this happen, including:
    1. specifying 'media-type sfp', but my iOS doesn't recognize this
    2. specifying 'shutdown' in the port Gi49-50 configs, but this shuts down the Ten1-2 ports also
    3. clearing the config entirely from Gi49-50 so it's blank, but leaving some config statements in the Ten1-2 sections
    4. shutting down and restarting the ports in between all these steps
At the moment, I can't convince these ports to recognize any link (using Cisco branded cables, incidentally), so my feeling is that there's some iOS out there that my config is missing that will magically enable my Te1-2 ports as 10GB ports. I'm just can't find what that mystery command is anywhere. I'd be grateful for any hints.
    Dale.

  • Another port question - multiple Macs behind the same firewall

I've searched for this issue, but I can't seem to find a topic directly on point. I know how to forward the right points for this to work, but...
I'm coming from outside the network, and I need to control multiple machines that are behind the same firewall. I can't forward a port to more than one machine. How do I control all these machines?

To be able to connect to a workstation from outside it's network, the ports that ARD uses must be open on both ends of the connection. ARD uses ports 3293 and 5900 so those must be open.
If your workstations get their addresses from an NAT device rather than being "real", as seems to be the case from your description, the ports also need to be forwarded in the router to the workstation's internal IP address. ARD uses port 3283 for the reporting and updating function, so if your Macs are getting their IP addresses through NAT, since you can only forward a port to a single workstation, you can only get reports, push package/files to etc. for a single workstation.
ARD uses the VNC protocol for observation and control, though, and there are a range of IP addresses for that protocol, starting with 5900. ARD uses 5900 by default, so that port would be forwarded to the first workstation. You would, I believe, need to install VNC servers on the systems (since the ARD client cannot listen on any port other than 5900 while VNC servers can be set for other ports such as 5901, 5902, etc. You would then forward 5901 to the second workstation (and on to 5902, 5903, etc.). You can then use the following information:
Remote Desktop 2: How to specify a port number for a VNC client
    to connect.
    Hope this helps.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic before you post a question.

  • AS2 over HTTP Send port question.

I have an application that builds and  sends flat and EDI files to FTP, FILE, SqlAdapter send ports and now they want AS2 over an HTTP port, I understand the AS2 settings (using party resolution, etc.) what I don't get is how/what exactly is receiving
the message on the other side... They don't have a web service nor a page, I created a site to test but what do I do? Send an edi file to a url????
    Bico Bielich

From your question I understand, you have been asked to send message through AS2. Do they also going to receive message through AS2 from their party? Is your question is about how to receive the message through AS2 which you also want to send over AS2?
    You can configure
BTSHTTPReceive.dll to receive messages over HTTP and configure the Receive location with AS2 EDI pipeline component to receive messages over AS2 into BizTalk which can be subscribed by your send port filter or Orchestration ( if you have any process
to be applied before sending the message over AS2 send).
Check the Tutorial-3 part of AS2 which illustrate an example which receives an AS2 message through BTSHTTPReceive.dll.
    Tutorial 3: AS2 Tutorial
And following references shall help you configure the BTSHTTPReceive.dll:

  • Essbase1113 IP Address and Port Questions

    hello,
everyone, i'm puzzled on a question about essbase.
it'll be so kind if you give me some suggestions.
in our project, we install EMP System 1113 on Win Server2003, but it's in local network. there is no problem when we connect it using client tools in local network environment.
however, we wanna connect the Essbase Server through Internet, we map the server address (such as 10.163.163.163) as an Internet address (such as 111.111.111.111).
we didn't use VPN such tools, and, the address is just a mapping, if we don't map the port, we couldn't connect the essbase server.
here comes the question, how do we map the essbase address and port ? i mean which port should we use, so that we could connect it through Internet ?
    thank you so much.
    wish to reply.

The ports that essbase use are outlined at :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/epm_install_start_here/ch06s05s01.html
