2960S PoE switch into a non-PoE stack
I have two 2960 Stacks
Stack # 1 is a PoE stack with two WS-C2960S-48FPD-L with TenGig uplinks running c2960s-universalk9-mz.152-1.E.bin.
Stack #2 is Non PoE stack with three WS-C2960S-48TS-L running c2960s-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE2.bin.
I need to add an WS-C2960S-24PS-L for additional PoE port capacity. If I add it to Stack #1 I will have three switches in both stacks, and all PoE switches will be part of the same stack. I am just wondering If I can have disparate switch models in the same stack running the same IOS? If I add the new WS-C2960S-24PS-L to Stack #2 I will end up making this stack a 4 switch stack with three non-PoE switches and one PoE switch. If I add the PoE switch to this stack will I have access to the PoE capabilities of that one switch. Again with the question can I have disparate switch models in the same stack running the same IOS?
I am just wondering If I can have disparate switch models in the same stack running the same IOS
Yes. You can have a different models of 2960S in a single stack. The main important thing is all members of the stack should have the same IOS version.

Hi,
I've been advised by a third party vendor to put my catalyst 2960 poe switch into consumption mode. Is that possible with this model?
Thanks,This is what you can do:
Supported Protocols and Standards
The switch uses these protocols and standards to support PoE:
•CDP with power consumption—The powered device notifies the switch of the amount of power it is consuming. The switch does not reply to the power-consumption messages. The switch can only supply power to or remove power from the PoE port.
•Cisco intelligent power management—The powered device and the switch negotiate through power-negotiation CDP messages for an agreed power-consumption level. The negotiation allows a high-power Cisco powered device, which consumes more than 7 W, to operate at its highest power mode. The powered device first boots up in low-power mode, consumes less than 7 W, and negotiates to obtain enough power to operate in high-power mode. The device changes to high-power mode only when it receives confirmation from the switch.
High-power devices can operate in low-power mode on switches that do not support power-negotiation CDP.
Cisco intelligent power management is backward-compatible with CDP with power consumption; the switch responds according to the CDP message that it receives. CDP is not supported on third-party powered devices; therefore, the switch uses the IEEE classification to determine the power usage of the device.
•IEEE 802.3af—The major features of this standard are powered-device discovery, power administration, disconnect detection, and optional powered-device power classification. For more information, see the standard.
•IEEE 802.3at (Catalyst 2960-S only)—This PoE+ standard supports all the features of 802.1af and increases the maximum power available on each PoE port from 15.4 W to 30 W.
Powered-Device Detection and Initial Power Allocation
The switch detects a Cisco pre-standard or an IEEE-compliant powered device when the PoE-capable port is in the no-shutdown state, PoE is enabled (the default), and the connected device is not being powered by an AC adaptor.
After device detection, the switch determines the device power requirements based on its type:
•A Cisco pre-standard powered device does not provide its power requirement when the switch detects it, so a Catalyst 2960 switch allocates 15.4 W as the initial allocation for power budgeting; a Catalyst 2960-S switch allocates 30 W (PoE+).
The initial power allocation is the maximum amount of power that a powered device requires. The switch initially allocates this amount of power when it detects and powers the powered device. As the switch receives CDP messages from the powered device and as the powered device negotiates power levels with the switch through CDP power-negotiation messages, the initial power allocation might be adjusted.
•The switch classifies the detected IEEE device within a power consumption class. Based on the available power in the power budget, the switch determines if a port can be powered. Table 12-1 lists these levels.

2960 POE acting as a dhcp server
I have a 2960 POE 24 switch acting as a DHCP server
for a WLC 4402 and six Aironet APs. I cant get the APs to aquire
an address. At least when I check the switch by doing a sh dhcp
lease it shows nothing. Here is the commands I used to set it up
on the switch.
ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.50.1 255.255.255.0
ip dhcp pool wireless
network 192.168.50.0 255.255.255.0
domain-name newtonma.gov
default-router 192.168.50.1
lease 4
Here is an example of one of the interfaces
interface FastEthernet0/1
switchport trunk native vlan 10
switchport mode trunk
The Vlan for wireless
interface Vlan10
ip address 192.168.50.1 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 192.168.50.1
no ip route-cache
Any help would be appreciatedHi
You can remove the helper address as the DHCP server is on the switch itself. A helper address is only needed when the DHCP server is another device than the one the default gateway sits on.
The interface example you gave above, is that the interface to one of the Access Points or to the WLC?
Assuming the Access Points are not in Flex Connect mode, they only need to be access ports (i.e not trunks) as the traffic is tunneled back to the WLC.
The config for each AP would be:
#interface fa0/1
#switchport mode access
#switchport access vlan 10
The config for the WLC would be:
#interface fa0/10
#switchport mode trunk
I would leave the Native Vlan as 1 (i.e remove the command) or at least change it to something other than Vlan10.
The DHCP excluded address could be causing an issue as there is no need for a subnet mask if you simply want to exclude a single address.

Adding switch into an existing stack
Hi all,
I have an existing stack which comprises of 6 switches, please help with the following questions :
1/ adding another switch into this stack will cause all switches in stack to reboot ? anything that I should be aware of such as different versions ?
2/ maximum switches in one stack should be ?
Thanks for all help.Hi Duc,
If you are stacking 3750 switches you can have a max of 9 switches in one stack. The only thing you have to make sure before adding the new switch is that its IOS version should be exactly same as the IOS version of rest of the stack.
You dont have to worry about any reload of existing stack. Connect the stack cables to the new switch, power it up and it will be added to the existing stack.

Connecting a WLC 4400 to a 2960 POE Catalyst
I need some help connecting my WLC 4400 to my 2960 catalyst switch. The gigabit port
on the Catalyst switch I am using is connected to port 1 on WLC 4400. I have the port set to trunking

C2960S-STACK module in a 2960-X switch
Do the 2960S stacking modules work in a 2960-X? The stacking cables are the same part #, even though the description for the 2960-X says Flexstack-Plus.
C2960S-STACK - FlexStack hot-swappable stacking module
C2960X-STACK - FlexStack-Plus hot-swappable stacking module
CAB-STK-E-0.5M - FlexStack stacking cable with a 0.5 m length
CAB-STK-E-0.5M - FlexStack-Plus stacking cable with a 0.5 m lengthNo!
1) 2960-stack moudles fit only 2960s
2) 2960-x fit modules fit only 2960x
3) cables are the same
4) IOS must be the same version. (UPGRADE OR DOWNGADE AS APPROPRIAT
5) for a stack with both 2960s and 2960x there are two command that need to be entered on the 2960-x...1) change the port speed to 10. 2) change the smd to routing. -

OK; have been trying to setup a test VM based RDS deployment for a few days now with no luck.
this error mentioned above:
"Server <server name> either does not have a virtual switch configured or none of the configured virtual switches have an IP address assigned" error is driving me nuts!
I have removed and re-added the RD Virtualization Host role numerous times, each time having the "create a virtual switch" checkbox selected, but it did NOT create any virtual switch.
I created the external virtual switch manually and tried to create the desktop collection again, no luck with the same error.
a few questions:
1. you don't assign IP to a switch! you assign IP to Network Interfaces. why does the error puts it like this?! it is technically wrong.(yeah yeah I know all about how you'd assign IP to managed switches in real world to telnet into them and manage them.
you know better than me that it is not the case here!)
2.the RDS Virtualization hosts are using their wifi card as the card for the virtual switch. could that be the reason? I even disabled their unplugged wired NIC just to make sure that the wifi is the only available option for the RDS wizard to use for the
virtual switch creation; but it didn't use it and it didn't create any virtual switch automatically.
3.if WIFI nic is indeed the reason, is it your suspension or an official documents is there somewhere stating so (that the WIFI NICS on a Virtualization hosts are not supported as the hub for a virtual switch).
4.what are the properties of the virtual switch the RDS requires? does it have to be external? why can't it work even with my manually created external switch?
5.how would I fix it?
P.S: the environment is made up of 2 laptops, having windows 2012 R2 trial installed on them, using their wifi to connect to the out world. no cable is plugged into their wired NIC card.Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
The simplest short term solution was to connect each computer to a small switch that had no other connectivity. This brought up the link light on the external NIC and allowed the creation of the collection to complete. You need to use an external switch. You
can create one external switch which might fix the problem.
Please check below article for information.

In addition please referthis article for information regarding virtual switch.
Hope it helps!

Nexus 2K to Cisco 2960 IOS Switch
Hi,
I am trying to connect Nexus 2K FEX to Cisco 2960 IOS Switch (Trunk config) and causing spanning tree loop having issues. I am aware that I should't be connecting non host port to 2K FEX but it's corner case. I have done similar setup with Access Port configuration and didn't faced any issues.

Should I configure port as "spanning-tree port type network" and create VPC and "storm-control broadcast level" to stop future occurrence? OR Do i have to configure anything else to prevent spanning-tree loops?
Thanks for your help
RiteshHi,
spanning-tree port type network is used for VPC peer-link. Try creating a new VPC and add ports 107/1/47 and 108/1/47 to it and a Portchannel on the 2960 and test.

2960-S switch firmware upgrade path ?
Hello, I have a stack of three 2960-S switches. They are currently running ' Version 12.2(53)SE2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3'.
Is it OK to do a direct upgrade to 'c2960s-universalk9-tar.122-58.SE2' ? or is an incremental upgrade required ?
I understand I simply upgrade this to the master switch in the stack and it then propagates to the other switches.
Is there anything else important I need to be aware of ?
Thanks for any advice. You can upgrade directly to that version of code. Just be sure to use the archive download-sw command and it will transfer the image to all switches in the stack. Good luck!

Will i lose my unlimted data if i switch to a non-simcard smartphone to a phone that uses a sim card
i am currently using a 3G only Droid X2 and plan on switching to a Droid Razr Maxx 4GLTE, the droid X2 does not use a sim card but the Razr Maxx does, the Razr Maxx will be my first 4G phone and sim card phone, i was just curious if my unlimited data will be in tact when i make this switch from a non-sim card 3G smartphone to a sim card 4GLTE smartphone.?
Depends on how you get the Razr Maxx. You will lose your unlimited data if you sign a new two-year contract and thus get a subsidized phone If you want to keep your unlimited data, you can pay full retail price for the new phone, get it from someplace like ebay (anywhere that doesn't require you to sign a new two-year contract), or upgrade another line on your account (if one is available) and move that phone to your line.

Whyd they remove the Time Stretch-To-Size tool? was very useful!
Why did they remove this tool? it was very useful in making clips fit or going along with music, I recently upgraded from Premiere Elements 10 to 13 (due to my graphics card not working with 10) I agree 13 looks better but they took out a lot of "eas
