2D preformance on a 30" inch monitor

Hey
We have some trouble with 2D performance on a 30" inch monitor. When we try and move objects in the program (2D cad design program) it will render the movement very slow.
The users that are experiencing this problem have a 2 screen setup, one 30" (primary) and one 22" screen. When we set the secondary (20") as primary screen and the cad software is launched on that screen it works. We can the move it to the big screen and it also works.
I think this is a software problem with the cad software, but wanted to check if someone have had the same problem here.
The computer have the following spec:
Thinkstation S20
Xenon 5540
SAS 147 GB Disk
Quadro 1800
4GB Memory
WinXP 32Bit
Have tried lastest driver form lenovo and nvidia.
Thank for any help.
Best regards
Håvard

either the FX 1800 doesn't have enough bandwidth to display your file while handling two monitors simultaneously or your CAD software is missing an accelleration setting to allow the FX 1800 full processing power.
i had an FX 3700 work very slow in photoshop CS4 while trying to manipulate a 400 MB 2D image on my 30" NEC.   i attributed that to slow bandwidth more than i did a lack of memory.
what software are you using and how large is the file?

I have a 30 inch monitor on my mac pro tower that just went black, how can I get it back on?

He's asking what are those things you are using, i.e., ...
What video card are you using?
What version of OSX are you using?
What model of mac pro are you using (e.g., 2010 Mac Pro is 5,1).
    And also,
    Try smc and pram reset.
And see if the monitor lites up if you boot in safe mode.
It is possible your monitor simply failed -- its power supply or something else.

  • Connecting a 23 inch monitor to comcast HD cable box

    Hi folks
I just got a 23 inch monitor and I am interested to know if anyone has used the display to output video from a cable box. I have a female DVI to HDMI connector and the cable box has an HDMI port. Is there anything else I should worry about?
    thanks!
12 inch powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   23 inch apple display

I have not tried this myself with my 20" cinema display but when I tried it with a viewsonic monitor I had problems with the Digital Copy Protection system they use on the HDMI/DVI ports on the cable boxes to prevent people from copying the video. I do not know if the Apple display has HDCP support or not. If it does it should work fine, otherwise your get an error message on the screen telling you there is a DCP error. Either way if you already have the cables give it a try it won't hurt your monitot. Note that if you get a DCP error (or no display) when you connect the HDMI cable restart the cable box with the monitor attached to see if that works.

  • Running a 27 inch monitor over Dual link DVI-D

    Hi all
I have recently acquired a 27 inch monitor to use with my Mac.
My Mac is a 13 inch 2011 Macbook Pro.
I am connecting using the Apple Dual Link Adapter.
When I connect and boot-up, I get the grey background with the Apple. No problem. But when the bootup is complete, the picture has disappeared. This leads me to believe that the problem is a OSX problem. I have the latest version of OSX lion.
When I use the same monitor and adapter on Windows / Boot camp, it works flawlessly. More reason for me to believe that it is a OSX Lion problem.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks

I happened onto this thread while searching for a way to connect my T400 to my wife's 27" iMac. What I learned thus far is that Atlona makes a device (AT-DP400) that will convert dual link DVI to Mini DisplayPort. But Atlona says that one's graphic card must support 2560x1440. The T400 doesn't have a DVI out (nor does my current docking station), but it sounds like one can get a docking station that does. But that won't help if my card won't support 2560x1440. So are you saying that there is no way I will be able to use the 27" iMac as a monitor for the T400?

  • G5, Dell 30 inch monitor, Radeon Mac9600 PRO 256MB

When I ordered this monitor, I read that my computer should have a dual-link DVI-D compatible graphics card. I had a dual-link DVI card, but soon found that the one I had didn't support the higher resolution of the 30 inch monitor. Apparently, the only card that does work with the bus structure on my G5, (which is AGP8X), is the recently discontinued Radeon Mac9600 PRO 256MB.
Since I couldn't find one that was actually in stock from the likes of CDW, I tracked one down on eBay. What is unfortunate is that while it does indeed support this resolution, there is a lot of crazy pink artifacting (for lack of a better description) that is going on all over the screen. There are also static-like lines that zip around occasionally. I am assuming that this has something to do with the card (I have now tried 2 different 9600 cards) as the problem was not present when driving the monitor with a lower resolution-supporting card.
Any ideas how to remedy this other than buying a new computer that supports the newer PCI-E cards that might alleviate the problem?
I am also wondering if I end up having to selling this monitor because the problem is unsolvable and I purchase the Dell SP2309W, 23inch, will I have the same problem because of my G5's "ancient" bus structure..?
As a side note, I have two Apple 23 inch cinema displays, both of which have gone pink on me, so I am not inclined to purchase an Apple display again.
In advance, I really, really appreciated the assistance. When did this all get so darned complicated?

    Hi Steve,
Thanks so much for the response.
I originally had a Radeon 9600 128MB card which did not support the higher resolution on the Dell 30". However, when the 30" was running from the 9600 128MB until I could get the newer card, I did not have this pink artifacting problem, so that leads me to believe that it is not the cable. However, my husband is bringing one home tonight to try anyway.
I have tried two Radeon Mac9600 Pro 256 MB cards, thinking the first might be defective, and still have the same problem. So, unless both cards are defective, it is something else. I have searched around online trying to find an answer, but all I seem to find are folks mentioning the same problem (with a variety of cards & monitors), but nobody seems to offer an answer that actually solves it.
I appreciate the input regarding the smaller monitor. I thought that might be the case, but at this point, I take nothing for granted. This just all seems overly complicated
As for the other cards (nVidia 6800, and ATi's X800), I cannot seem to find one of either that is actually available for purchase - and AGP, and MAC OS X, and 256 MB, and Dual link DVI. What I have heard is that the AGP bus structure is "ancient" and that nobody is actually manufacturing these cards any longer.
The other issue that comes to mind, is that if I find one of the above cards (I think I found one on Amazon - used for $499) I could get it, and find I still have the same issue. Refer to my comment regarding other posters who seem to have the same issue with a variety of cards/monitors. I just thought that somebody, somewhere had to have encountered this and knew how to fix it or at least what it might be.

  • Using different resolutions on ACD 20 and 30 inch monitors

I have a Mac Pro with dual monitors. One is the 30 inch ACD and the other is the 20 inch ACD. They are being run off an ATi 1900XT for the 30 and the Nvidia 7300 for the 20. I really want to put the desktop on the 20 inch monitor and run my games on the 30. When I set it up this way the resolution for the games is limited to what the resolution is set to on the 20. Is there a way to do this or is it just a limitation of the OS? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    J.C.

If mirroring is off, there is nothing in OSX limiting the resolution on the 30" display. The problem must be in the game. If you only have two displays, try removing the 7300, and put both displays on the 1900.

  • Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

I have this (or a similar) issue and I did notice something interesting. After I boot into Windows via Bootcamp (where I have the U3014 specfic driver installed) and then reboot into MacOS X (Mavericks) the monitor works flawlessly.
I would hazard a guess that this means bootcamp is retaining the driver used in Windows. Kind of the reverse of the TB GBE adapter driver issue.
To explain my issue for anyone else: the monitor flicks on and off as if the connection was poor. Connecting via HDMI. Connection is fine and as stated, everything works fine in Bootcamp.

  • Apple ColourSync 20 inch monitor compatible with G5?

Is the Apple ColourSync 20 inch monitor compatible with G5?

Yes, using the DVI to VGA adapter included with your G5 and a VGA to Macintosh Video adapter that you'll have to purchase elsewhere. Griffin has one (the Mac Connect) and you and probably find one elsewhere as well. For full information on monitor compatibility, see:

  • Preview size for at 22 inch monitor?

Hi, I have just read some posts suggesting that changing the pixel dimensions for a specific monitor can help performance as far as rendering images is concerned. I have a 22 inch Samsung monitor, what would be the optimum pixel dimensions. At the moment it is set at default 1440 pixels, should I change it, and if so to 1680 or 2048? I suppose I could experiment, but is there an "optimum"!
    As always
    Thanks

The standard preview size should be set to match as closely as possible to the resolution at which you use your monitor. Therefore, there was some relevance to the question regarding the native resolution of the monitor as simply stating the size of the monitor does not dictate the resolution at which it operates. In my case, I have a 26 inch monitor, but the important information is that I have it set at its native resolution of 1900x1200. Therefore, I set the standard  preview size to the closest resolution without exceeding it, which in this case will be 1680. Note that the standard preview size has nothing to do with any zoom factor as applying any zoom factor, even a 1:1, will quickly exceed the maximum standard preview size available of 2048.
    Hope this helps!

  • Dual Apple (metal) 20-inch monitors different colours... why?

    Hi,
I have 2x 20 inch monitors. One I bought 9 months ago and the other just recently. I have them both set-up using the same ICC calibration profile (the factory default).
My problem is that the newer monitor has more vivid colours. Shouldn't they both be the same if they are using the same ICC profile and are both less than a year old?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Colin Leask

I have the same exact challenge withthe same 2 2oinch displays..
one seems a bit darker than the other. I to purchased them about 6 to 9 month apart. I have set up individual profiles but the one of them seems darker than the other.
I'm wondering if it would have anything to do with the fact that one is connected to the G5 via DVI and the other is using the DVI to VGA converted..
    thoughts anyone?

  • LG 22-inch monitor won't function properly after last Mac OS X Update

My new LG 22-inch monitor was working great until I received the last Mac OS X Update (10.4.9). I received this update after installing Tiger (better late than never...ha ha) and after I restarted my system, I saw multiples of the same files on my desktop, and when I would open a window, four duplicate windows would appear (this did not happen until after the update). The only thing that corrects the problem is to go into System Preferences => Displays and change the monitor resolution. But even after I Click to Lock Changes, I have to go in and do this every time I launch my system. I was so vexed that I hooked up the former monitor (Apple CRT, 17 inch) and now the same thing is happening to it! Sigh... I am no Mac Genuis, but I know someone out there can offer some advice! Thanks!

These warnings are accurate but according to Apple can safely be ignored. See Mac OS X 10.5: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore. IOW, They are not normally problems.
I check the volume scheme but I don't have any partition
You do have partitions & a partition scheme. To check what the scheme is, click on +the drive itself+ in the list on the left in Disk Utility. It will probably be identified as "298,1 GB WDC WD3200AAJS-40VWA0 Media" or something very similar. If it contains the startup disk, it will be the first item in the list. It will have one or more named volumes indented under it, such as "Macintosh HD."
When you have clicked on the WDC drive instead of a volume name indented under it, you should see seven items of information about it at the bottom of Disk Utility's window, to the right of an icon representing the drive. The info is in two columns. The last item in the rightmost column, below the S.M.A.R.T. Status (which should say "Verified"), should be "*Partition Map Scheme :* " & be followed by the scheme type. It should be "GUID Partition Table."
If you don't see the seven info items after selecting the drive, it may indicate a problem that needs attention, but I suspect that you just haven't looked in the right place for the info....
As for the 'cannot install' message, make sure that you have downloaded the right update, that it is not the server update version for example. You may need to download it again, discarding the first download as somehow defective.

  • 30 inch monitor ... extension cable? How to run moonitor in another room

I have a recording studio and have a quadcore and a 30 inch monitor. I'd like to run my tower in another room and put my monitor in the control room. Is there a correct extension cable that someone could refer me to?
The distance is about 30 feet or so.
    thanks!

now I have the same issue with my PPC G5 running 2 19" monitors. I think they're connected via VGA. Do i need a VGA booster as well to power those monitors appx 30 ft away?
A high quality VGA should work without a booster.

Call them to be sure. Tell them what resolution and refresh rate you will be using.

  • Running Oracle Forms 10g on 30 inch monitors

    Hi!
Oracle Forms application (10g) will not work good on 30 inch monitors. (Running NATIVE, suns javaengine)
Most of our customers is running on 24 inch monitors with no problems.
Has anyone had the same problem? Solution?
    Regards
    Tobias

As I mentioned, you need to install the 10.1.2.3 patch set. Additionally, you can find over 110 more Forms fixes in Patch ID 9593176. This patch requires that 10.1.2.3 be installed first.
One last comment, IE 9 and FF 10 are not supported for use with Forms 10.1.2.x. Also, JRE 1,6,0_30 is not certified for use with Forms 10.1.2.0. Version 10.1.2.3 would be required in this case. I am not suggesting that your configuration won't work, but rather because it was not certified by Oracle there is a possibility that it will not work correctly in some instances. Because those browsers were never certified, it would be up to you to prove that the same problem reproduces in a certified configuration if you expected Oracle Support to assist. That said, Forms/Reports 10.1.2.x is no longer entitled to Error Correction Support, so I guess it really doesn't matter what configuration you use as for the most part you are on your own.
The current Forms/Reports version is 11.1.2.0

  • Can the macbook pro accept a 30 inch monitor without paying extra

Does the mbp allow video out to a 30 inch monitor without
paying extra for the adaptor if an adaptor is even needed?
i.e is the video card to run a 30 inch monitor already included?

Since you can add in the build to order on the store the 30" LCD without paying any more than the 30" LCD on its own, I can only surmise it includes everything you ened for the 30" LCD. I'd go to one of the stores here:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/
