2G iPhone no longer works as an iPod

I upgraded to the 3G iPhone a few weeks ago and have been using my old 2G iPhone as an iPod touch via WiFi. The 2G phone crashed last night, and after a restore it longer longer works as an iPod. All I get is the Connect to iTunes screen. If I connect to iTunes, it starts the new activation process. I assume this will transfer my service back to my old iPhone. What can I do to get the iPod functionality back?

Reactivate using your number sync the songs then put it into airplane mode so att cant relock it! Then just put the sim in the 3g again and your good!

The sound on/off  button onthe side of my iPhone no longer works, nor do the volume buttons. All sound has disappeared from the phone apart from the Music which still plays. Have tried th Restore and restart phone plus have plugged and unplugged phone jack. No luck  - any idea anyone?

One thing that helped was getting a toothbrush and scrubbing the dock connector on the phone.  I scrubbed the connector and used compressed air for about 1/2 hour till the connector looked much cleaner.  An Apple employee told me that the pins on the phone had a little corrosion and sand.  The problem hasn't gone away completely, but has been significantly reduced.  I'm going to hold out until my contract expires after which time I'll switch to an iPhone5 (or newer) or Android phone.

Have you set the vehicle's headunit to forget the iPhone?
Once you do, try to pair to the vehicle as if this was a brand new device.  Make the iPhone discoverable and place the headunit into pairing mode.

  • My lock button no longer works on my ipod touch and now i have all kinds of problems with it freezing and kicking me out of apps. Is there any way to get this fixed and were would i go to get it fixed?

Please Help!!!! I have an ipod touch 4th gen.  and since the last update the lock button no longer works, this has caused it to have a lot of problems now like freezing all the time, kicking me out of almost all my apps, some times even when if locks on its own its not locked and buttons with be pushed in my pocket, and this causes the battiery to die fast.   I really love my ipod and would like to just get it fix if possible for a reasonable about of money. Anyone know of a place I can get it fixed in Ft Lauderdale Fl area or is there something I can do?

    Have you tried:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • The lock and volume button's no longer work on my iPod Touch 3rd Generation?

I've had my iPod Touch 3rd generation for about two years now, and have had hardly any problems with it... but now the lock button on the top of the ipod and the volume control button on the side of my ipod no longer work. Because the lock button won't work, I cannot reset my iPod. What can I do to fix this?

Assuming that this is not a hardware problem have you tried restoring your iPod? If that does not work then the only thing may be to take it in for repair.

  • I have a brand new iPod Touch. I recorded three voice memos, then synced with my computer. Now the voice memo feature no longer works on my iPod.

My iPod touch is no longer recording voice memos. It worked for a while, then I synced it with my computer. Now it no longer works. I bought this for the main purpose of recording, and it no longer does this. It responds like it is recording, i.e. the needle moves in response to sound, but nothing is saved, and when I try to see the list of memos on the iPod by touching the correct button, absolutely nothing happens.

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • My iPhone no longer works with external speakers

Since upgrading to the 3.0 software, my iPhone (the original 2G model) no longer works with the speakers I have, or with my DVD/surround system. Previously it worked fine! Has anyone else experienced this. I'm so disappointed, as I use the speakers/surround system a lot to listen to music.
If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it

OK, I just clicked restore to backup in itunes and after restoring the iphone, it seems to be connecting and working through the speakers now. Whew!

  • HT1491 Not many of the apps say iPod... do the iPad and iPhone apps all work for the iPod touch5?

In the iTunes store, the apps do not say iPod, just iPad or iPhone. Do the apps/games work for the iPod??

No. Some apps are iPad only and some iPhone only. The Compatibility section on the App description page stated compatibility. For example this app is NOT compatilber with iPod touch
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/compass/id520985073?mt=8
    says:
Compatibility: Requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone and iPad. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

  • Does every iPhone app also work with an iPod touch??

I apologize if this is a dumb question, as I have never owned either of these products. I want to purchase an iPod touch and I know the iPhone is known for all its great apps.. so I was just wondering if all of those also work for the touch.. or no? I do realize that an app that requires the internet on the iphone would require a wi-fi connection on the touch, but I just want to make sure it can actually run all of them regardless.
    Thank you very much.

The best way to put it is MOST apps work on the iPod touch. There are small differences in the hardware because of the phone and such. It would be similar to having a 3G phone and not being able to use apps that use the compass that's in the 3GS, but not the 3G. Does the app use something with the phone, the camera, the mic, the compass, the new 4's gyro? Some of those wouldn't work with the iPod, but we're talking a small percentage of the apps.

  • Pressing "Today" on iPhone no longer working in Calendar List view...?!

Using iPhone 3GS v3.1.2 with MobileMe.
Up until a couple of days ago, the iPhone Calendar was working fine.
Now, however, when I press Today in >list< view it takes me to >yesterday's< calendar items. (Today button works fine in Day and Month views)
Erasing the iPhone's calendars and re-syncing to MobileMe has not helped... Neither has rebooting or force-resetting the iPhone.
Anyone else had this problem?? It's really annoying.
    Thanks!
    .../j

It seems to have resolved (for now). Not sure which step fixed the problem...
Contacted MobileMe support about Calendar sync'ing not working reliably between iPhone and iMac, and the Calendar not appearing on me.com ("Calendar currently not available").
It appears that they then reset the MobileMe syncing for my account at their end. Logged out of me.com, logged back in, and the problems were solved.
At least this is something that others can try if they have this same problem--can't guarantee that this particular step is the one that fixed it because I was trying lots of things in succession.

  • My itunes no longer syncs with iphone 5 yet works with my ipod

My iPhone has always synced with iTunes no problem. I set my Ipod up on the same iTunes no problem. However, since upgrading my phone to the latest iOS I have been unable to update my music. I can select the music I want, click sync and although it appears to be syncing, no updates happen on my phone apart from it updates my contacts?!

    Hello Nash_x91x,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when syncing music to your iPhone 5.  I recommend resyncing the music to your iPhone for the issue you described.
If you are syncing automatically, resync content to the iPhone by unchecking "Sync Music" and click "Apply."  Then check "Sync Music" and click "Apply" again.  If you do not want to sync your entire library, be sure to select "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" and select the content you want to sync:
If you sync manually, delete the music when your iPhone is selected in iTunes and drag new content to your iPhone.
You can find the syncing steps in the following article:

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

  • IPhone no longer works with car audio

I'm running a 16 GB 3G-S and it worked wonderfully for my internet music such as Pandora or listening to iHeart radio.
The unit would sync up easily to both my new car audio systems and everything detected and played beautifully! However, once I upgraded to 4.2.1 the iPhone is no longer detected in "iPod Mode" or either receiver. I either get error codes from the receiver or errors from the iPhone that this is not supported (when it was in 4.1).
I really loved those features for my frequent long drives. I really hope there is a fix for this problem. I did check with both receiver manufacturers and they maintain their units should work.
Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated!

That is wild! My receiver had problems under 4.1, and I upgraded to 4.2 last night hoping to rectify things. It worked for me, flies through the menus and plays back beautifully again.
I have a 3GS and a Pioneer deck in the truck.
