2g iphone won't recognize a usb cord

I have an original iphone and cannot charge or sync my phone from a usb cable either to my computer or wall charger. When I attach my phone to my MacBook computer it says "A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub it is attached to will be deactivated." Thankfully my phone will charge from a really old docking station. I know it is not either of my cords because they will both charge my ipod touch. I have tried resetting my phone settings, doing a hard reset, cleaning the terminal where the charger connects to. I am out of ideas. Does any one have any advice for me?

Sounds like a hardware problem on the phone. If its not the cable (confirmed), not the computer (confirmed), then it could only be the phone. You might try checking that the charging port is free of any dirt or debris. If that doesn't work then you'll probably have to start looking for a new phone.

My computer doesn't recognize my USB cord

First of all, my printer prints fine if I'm connected with my USB cord in the printer port. However, when I connect any other device (camera or hooking up to do wireless printing) it keeps telling me to plug it in and it IS!! Today trying to go from USB connected to wireless printer, during the set up it says "plug in USB port to computer" (or something like that). Well, the USB was already plugged in. It continued with that message and wouldn't go any further in the set up process. All this time, I thought something was wrong with my camera but now I see - it's something else. So, I tried it with printer on and printer off - no luck. A bad port maybe? So, I tried other ports but continued to be told I needed to plug USB cord in. It's so frustrating- I have a 7520 HP Printer (with all the bells and whistles). A Toshiba laptop, and a new General Electric camera (the camera does not come with a CD to load software so it's not that). I tried setting up wireless using the CD AND by going online to HP site but both tell me to hook up usb cord and won't go any further because it's not recognizing that it IS plugged in!!!! Any advice....I really need to switch over to wireless because my living room is now arranged differently and the printer is on one side of the LRoom and the computer (laptop) is in the middle of the LRoom. Oh, you need to know, I took my camera to a computer shop, WITH MY USB CORD, they plugged it in and there were all my photo files -- so it worked with their computer -- same camera same cord I am using now but it won't recognize the device on my computer. First of all, dedicate just one REAR USB port to the printer. Stop swapping cables or ports. The wireless setup is different, and is selected during the install process ( you have to momentarily use the USB cable).

Mac won't recognize when usb is plugged in

I'm new to Mac but I can't figure out why it won't recognize when I plug in something via USB. I have tried using both my printer and iPod/iPhone. I have looked under applications and then utilities in finder and under devices it isn't there. What am I doing wrong/how do I fix this?

When you connect an external device to your MBP, an icon should appear on your desk top. Since your printer and your iPod use different USB cables, it does point to a problem resident in the MBP. It seems to me that a visit to a Genius Bar at the Apple store is in order.

My usb slot won't recognize a usb device

I have 2 usb slots.
Plugged in a flash drive and only 1 of the slots recognizes the flash drive. I don't see the flash drive either on my desktop or in Finder when plugged in to the 2nd of the two slots.
I've done all recent updates.
Have OSX 10.8.5
I tested 3 sandisk flash drives. The slot closer to the monitor won't recognize any of the drives.
I logged out and logged in as another user and again, slot closest to monitor won't recognize any of the flash drives.
I also tested the 3 flash drives on another macbook I have and both slots recognized the flash drives.
Any rec's or ideas to help?

I plugged in my iPhone5 and nothing, no connection on this one usb slot. Connecting via the other slot a-okay though.
Unfortunately my applecare plan expired a week ago! Hah, how's that for timing!

New Mini won't recognize Apple USB modem

I hate being thick but I can't figure out why my new mini won't recognize the Apple USB modem I just purchased. The network preferences see the built-in Airport card, Bluetooth, Ethernet and Firewire, but I cannot get it to recognize any kind of modem (internal or external).
I figured it might be an uninstalled component (this is the Mini with built-in Airport) and looked through the OS X installation discs, but no. I can't find any drivers on the Apple site for the modem... has anyone had any success with this?

Doh! Upgrading the system to 10.4.4 did the trick. I guess the right drivers for the USB modem weren't in the earlier version to be recognized.

IPhone won't recognize new Apple ID

I updated my desktop iTunes to the new Apple ID - added an @aol.com to the end - per the new "rules". Now my iPhone 4s will not recognize my new password and prompts me to update my account when I type the old one. Can't update apps or sign into iTunes on my phone. I keep getting the pop-up "You need to update your account with iTunes Desktop." I've done that. When the prompt pops up for me to enter my password to update my apps it says my ID WITHOUT the @aol.com, which leads me to believe my phone doesn't "know" my "new" username. I've done soft resets on the phone (two), signed in and out of everything associated with iTunes and iCloud and tried putting in passwords dating back to a year. It won't recognize my new password but throws the "you need to update" prompt up when I try to use an old password. HALP.

I have taken the steps you said to do, but my iPhone is not recognizing my "old" password that I need to put in to turn off "Find my iPhone." I can't sign out. Which means I can't sign back in. I am able to sign in to forums like this with my new apple ID. But I can't get into my iCloud on my laptop. It seems like in order to try to deal with this problem I have changed my ID and password so many times that now I can barely log in anywhere. Should I just go to a Verizon or Apple store? Can they override my system and reset everything or something?

Macbook Pro won't recognize any USB storage or SD Cards

My Macbook Pro just stopped recognizing my camera SD cards and both of my external hard drives. I've been using them regularly without issues and all of a sudden nothing is recognized. The USB ports still provide power AND it recognizes my iPhone when plugged into the USB port. I'd really appreciate any help.

Problem solved! I found a thread that recommended reinstalling the OS. It took a while, but when all was done, all of my files remained intact and I can now see my external hard drives and SD cards.

ok this is getting a little ridiculous we have 3 ipad mini's and 1 iphone in our household and everyone of the usb cords breaks at the plug that goes into the devices. The latest is my wifes iphone cord and the phone is only 3 weeks old. what gives apple? Never had a problem with the older style cords. Bad thing is they charge a small fortune fo these cords.

I have three non-working cords as well. The cable is so flimsy at the connector. If enough people complain then maybe Apple will try creating a better product! They should issue some credit or send customers a new cord.

Time Capsule won't recognize my USB hard drive.

I have a 160-gb Western Digital hard drive in an external enclosure that I use to use on my PC. I want to access the drive via Time Capsule through the USB port in the pack. Currently I have a USB hub with a printer and the hard drive plugged into the port in TC. I can print remotely from TC, but the hard drive is not visible as an assessable drive. The only way I can even see it is through a manual setup and review the disk setup of TC. How do I need to setup the TC to recognize the USB external harddrive? Just plugging it in doesn't work.
This is my first Macbook, as well as first Time Capsule. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your drive only has NTFS on it, then I don't think Time Capsule is equiped to deal with that partition. Time Capsule will tell you that the drive needs to be checked. If the drive has another partition on it that Time Capsule can see (FAT32), it will set up a connection to that drive. You can tell Time capsule to ignore errors on that drive (eg the fact that it can't deal with NTFS) and the blinking amber light will go away and you'll get the green light.
The thing is Vista no longer has FAT32 even as a format option, you've got either NTFS or their new eFAT which is not backward compatible with FAT32. A third party program needs to be used to format your external drive. For example I use a program from Ridgecrop. Below are its available options for formatting.

Now is Apple equipped to deal with all these cluster sizes. Have Apple defined anywhere what FAT32 is for them?
I can copy a small file to the external drive when its connected to Time Capsule, but if I try to copy a 700Mb movie to Time Capsule, Time Capsule gets confused and drops the network. It not only drops the network but if you try copying a large file from Time Capsule's internal disk to the attached USB drive, even that is enough to hang the machine. So it stops its network, it stops it USB connection, however the wireless carrier is still strong (it just cant transmit any TCPIP)
So is this a firmware issue that they can correct? Or do I have a dud Time Capsule? To compare your situation to mine the discussion must focus around FAT32 I believe. I suspect that Apple's own journaled file system works flawlessly with large files (but as yet do not own a mac to test this). Furthermore the point of having a large external drive is to be able to take it places and share files (which will have to be less that 4gig if I use FAT32) with non mac owning friends. Either Apple needs to support NTFS, or they need to specify or even provide a FAT32 format utility that will work with both Windows and Mac

This is total BS! Ever heard of backward compatibility? Get this fixed or Android is next for me! Apples resoponse so far shows absolute arrogance.
I am not the only one and a simple search shows thousands of people having the same issues. Asked my car dealer already and they have loads of people with the same issues. Only devices with issues are Iphones and Ipods since the IOS 7 upgrade. Reset as suggested does not work.

Parallels won't recognize mounted USB 1 TB drive (FAT32)

I guess the title says it all. Running Leopard 10.5.2. Using the latest Parallels 3.0 v5584 with XP SP2 and all system updates. My Western Digital USB 1 TB drive is mounted and working like a charm in Leopard. I start up parallels and it won't load up in "My Computer" for some reason. I hate having to drag files from Leopard to Parallels just to access them. Any ideas ??

You might want to post your question in one of the the Windows sections of these forums as that is where the people who use it are more likely to hang out.
Have you contacted parallels support? It may be an issue with their software also.

Mac won't recognize two USB mics simultaneously (iMac Intel - OS X 10.6.8)

Hi, I'm connecting two XLR mics to my Mac, each separately run through its own Blue Icicle and USB port. (2 mics, 2 blue icicles, 2 usb ports) When only one mic is connected, the computer recognizes. Each mic works individually in each USB port when it's the only mic connected. But when both mics are connected at the same time, only the first mic plugged in is recognized.
This is not a Garage Band-centric problem. I've gone to Audio MIDI Setup and still only the first mic plugged in appears, but not the second one.
Any help you can provide is much appreciated.

So I can't speak to the specifics on Icicles, but I would imagine it's identical the situation I just ran into with two Yetis. Bue Yetis have identical digitial footprints and therefore no matter how many you plug in, they will be recognized as a single device.
I contacted Blue and ultimately I was able to send one of my Yetis to them for reprogramming and now my Mac will recognize it along with another Yeti in order to create an aggregate device.
Fair warning, this process took over 2 weeks and I had to pay out of pocket shipping, they paid FedEx ground (signature required) back to me. Hope that helps anyone else.

Premiere won't recognize my usb mic even though my mac recognizes it

I am trying to do a voice over, but when I attach my usb mic, premiere will not recognize it as an input even though I selected it in the sound settings on my mac. When I did my first voice over, the mic was recognized, but now it is a no go.
Any suggestions?

What I have found is that you have to make the audio input change at the computer system level first, then start PPro and make the changes in the Audio Hardware section. So on the Mac, Sys Preferences - Sound -Input - choose your mic. Then start up PPro - Preferences - Audio Hardware - Choose System Default Settings (usually the first one on the drop down list). Then go through arming the track. You should see VU input at that point.
PPro does not dynamically check any changes in the sound settings once it is launched. Quit PPro, set up the mic, relaunch and set inputs. This works consistently for me and my classroom.

USB ports mount regular USB devices on MBP Retina but will not recognize cards/reader. Card reder is a Lexar Professional USB 3.0 Dual Slot Reader Reader. Any idea why it is not recognized?

Welcome to being a Beta tester but whatever you do call Apple HQ and give them **** for they make a big thing about how their products simply work. Well it does not. I have a problem with USB 3.0 with my PCIe card on my MacPro is a way I do not have with the same card on my HP Z800.
Apple customer support are good but don't let them get off the hook. I cancelled my Retina because I began to read problem with USB 2.0 and other problems.
However I do have an idea there are Thunderbolt breakout boxes that offer USB3.0 and eSATA too. Maybe that will do the trick BUT for Apple to have a USB3.0 issue is disgraceful when my ugly HP simply works. Seriously this is not new technology.
It's Apple not Lexar who need to own this problem. Far to expensive for this and Lexar are hardly unknown.
