2G Shuffle...So, is Sound Check my only volume adjustment option?

I have meticulously adjusted the volume of each song in my iTunes library with iVolume 1.6.1, and it works great with my 5G Video iPod.
None of these volume adjustments seem to have carried over to my new 2G Shuffle. Is Sound Check my only option here?
And if I HAVE to activate Sound Check in iTunes and my Shuffle, will it wipe out all of my track by track volume settings (which I'd like to keep intact for use on my 5G iPod)?

Version 2 is over a year old.
And if I HAVE to activate Sound Check in iTunes and my Shuffle, will it wipe out all of my track by track volume settings (which I'd like to keep intact for use on my 5G iPod)?
It will keep the smae settings.
Just turn off Soundcheck on the 5G.
Incidentally, iVolume 2 ($7 upgrade from version 1.x) has been out for over a year now.
"The new adjustment method introducted with iVolume 2.0 that is based on the built-in 'Sound Check' function of iTunes solves all those problems (with the old version) and is a huge improvement compared to the previous versions of iVolume"

  • "Sound Check" - Setting 1 volume level burning multiple tracks-iTunes7.1.1

    Hi,
I've tried to get one playback level after burning many tracks onto 1 CD.
I found the Sound Check option under Preferences/Advanced/Burning; but, I still get one or more tracks still out of level with others (a shock to one's hearing on playback).
Any help to obtain the desired result would be much appreciated.

  • Import without Sound Check?

How can I import music without Sound Check attaching a volume adjustment to each track? I have "Sound Check" switched off in Preferences>Playback, but it still makes the adjustment when I import.
OR, how do I strip the Sound check values?
    Many thanks.

    Here's my problem exactly:
I have a huge library of music I have imported from CDs. They all have dB adjustments attached to them via Sound Check. (These are not adjustments made by the manual Volume Adjustment slider in the Options preference menu.)
I play all my music through Squeezebox. Squeezebox recognizes volume adjustments in iTunes.
I want to be able to use the manual slider volume adjustment but not the Sound Check volume adjustments. In fact I would like to get rid of all the Sound Check volume adjustments since I find that they badly distort the music.
If I delete music from the Library and re-add or re-import (from computer, not CD), the music still has the Sound Check volume adjustment attached.
Simplest solution would be to have the ability to delete any volume adjustment (aka dB) from songs in the iTunes Library.
I understand how to remove any manual volume adjustments but not those imposed by Sound Check.
    Many thanks.

  • Is sound check still in effect if songs are downloaded to a non-ipod device?

If Sound Check and/or Volume Adjusment (under "Get Info) are engaged in the itunes library, and then the songs are downloaded to a non-ipod device (flash drive) are those adjustments still in effect?  Same question if songs are downloaded to an ipod.

    Hmmm...
OK - a better question for me is how does Sound Check work?
Lets say I have only 2 songs in my entire iPod music library. One song has maximum volume @ 0dB and the other song only hits -6dB. When Sound Check is enabled, does the loud song get pulled down to -6dB or the -6dB up to 0dB or some average?
Because when it is selected on my iPod - the volume goes down at least 3dB. Now do I have to somehow find those guilty songs that are pulling all the other tunes down with it?
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Mp3 CD sound check feature

There is no way to set the sound check feature when burning MP3 CDs Does that mean that it automatically has sound check selected or that you cant have that feature at all when making a MP3 CD?

So the sound check get's transferred to the mp3 cd?
If you have *Sound Check* turned on in iTunes, yes.
When you burn an MP3 CD, the song file is copied to the CD.
Note that *Sound Check* is only used by iTunes/iPods so if you play this MP3 CD in your car player or stereo or with another player on your computer, it will not use the *Sound Check* settings.

  • Sound Check doesn't work for some podcasts?

Apologies for cross-posting, but this didn't get any replies in the Using iTunes section.
Podcasts that I subscribe to are recorded at quite different levels. This is pretty annoying when my morning playlist goes from a really quiet one to a really loud one.
It seemed that Sound Check would be the perfect solution, but not so: while Sound Check has set Volume levels for all the music tracks I checked, and many podcasts, there are quite a few podcasts that Get Info / Summary reports the Volume as "Not available." This doesn't seem to be just a display glitch: when I turn Sound Check on and off, the volume doesn't change on these tracks. As Murphy would predict, the ones that need the most adjustment don't get any
I haven't been able to work out what is different between the tracks that do and don't have Sound Check volumes. Two example podcasts that do get Sound Check volumes are Slacker Astronomy (most recent episodes) and StarDate; two that don't are Classical Music Spotlight and Writer's Almanac.
I tried converting one episode to AAC. As expected, the AAC file gets a Sound Check volume. But it's in the iTunes library Music group, not in the podcast.
Is there any way to get Sound Check to process these other podcast episodes?

Sound check is basically useless. Hasn't worked effectively on any model I've purchased. However, as others have pointed out, you can adjust the volume of a song so that your playlists don't cause public embarrassment. Simply do a control "i" on a particular song. In the "info" tab, you can increase or decrease the volume of a particular tune. However, if you make the adjustment, be sure to adjust all of the tune from that album. Otherwise, when you play the album, the song you tweaked will have a different volume from the rest of tunes on the album. It ain't a great fix... but it's better than what the programmers have done with sound check.

  • Enable Sound Check not working on Shuffle

On an iPod Shuffle (4th Gen v 1.0.1) and through iTunes (v 11.0.2) my setting of “Enable Sound Check” isn’t working and, of course, I wish it was. Is there someplace else I should be looking, as I’m only aware that things can be set through iTunes?

    I got the same problem....

  • Sound check option on my shuffle?

I cannot find the software update when searching the: "To use this feature, your iPod shuffle must have the latest software, which you can download for free from the iPod website." Can any one help me update and get a sound check on my shuffle? I am only finding setting that control autofill in the lower right corner on iTunes, which may mean that my shuffle software needs udating. I need to control the volume of to be the same on all songs on my shuffle.

    Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. I did try this, along with creating a new Nokia account via computer and logging into the new account via my mobile. Still made no difference. I even tried the same with the Facebook account it was paired with, but still not working at the time.
I have since got the Check-in working and the only thing that I finally tried before giving up was going into Settings - Connectivity - Destinations - Internet and changing the priority of my internet connections so that Virgin Internet was listed as priority "1". When I first looked it was listed as priority "3" out of 4 possible connections (the other connections being 2 x WiFi connections + Optus Internet).
It still didn't work straight away after changing this, but when I checked again the next morning the Check-in worked. I'm not sure if this was how it was fixed or if I just fluked it but all is right again for the time being.

  • Sound check doesn't work with shuffle

I can't get the sound check to work on my shuffle. I enabled it in iTunes, and it works fine for my music when playing with iTunes, but when I place the music on my shuffle it doesn't work, even though I have soundcheck enabled in the ipod settings.

  • Equaliser, Sound Check and Volume make no difference to the Shuffle!

    Hi there
I want to boost the volume of my First Generation iPod so it will sound pretty good on my passive speakers.
However, I notice that adjusting the volume on the iTunes file and adjusting the equaliser makes no difference when playing the shuffle back!!
Also Ive discovered along the way that, although there is an option for sound check, it does nothing either!!
Why put a 'Sound Check' box in the option if it makes no difference?!
Also, how can I boost the output of my shuffle. I cant seem to get the shuffle to 'read' tracks I have modified!
    Tc

You didn't mention adjusting the volume using the control button on the front of the shuffle. I'd expect you'll need to run it up to maximum. Even then, I have my doubts about how much volume you'll be able to get out of even mini desktop passive speakers, although I know they're sold.
If you tried enabling Sound Check (both in iTunes and the shuffle's settings) and adjusting the volume in the song's Info/Options, I wouldn't expect an audible difference since they'd work to cancel each other out.
I've never tried the equalizer at all, but in the past I've used the volume adjustment in a song's Info/Options to adjust for differences between songs. It worked for me, for that purpose. I haven't tried it as an overall volume boost, though.
A utility like MacMP3Gain does a bit better job of normalizing song to song volume than Sound Check, to my ears. I haven't included a link to the program, since this board has disallowed that in the past. It's pretty easy to find, though.
That said, these days I'm just using Sound Check and from time to time tweaking the results with the shuffle's front button. But that's a different application than yours.
    Good luck

  • Why Desen't Sound Check Work When Activated In Ipod Only?

Seems to me I have seen some inconsistent opinions about this in some older posts.  Someone said sound check needs to be activated in the IPod only, someone said it has to be activated in both ITunes and IPod.  Mine is only activated in the IPod and that is not working.  I have been hesitant about using sound check in ITunes.  If I enable it in ITunes will that effect the original files  on my hard drive?  That would be a show stopper.

  • Where on Nano is option for "sound check"

I have a brand new Nano, 3rd generation, 8GB and want to use the "Sound Check" option described in the manual.
I checked this option in Itunes, under Preferences> Playback to automatically adjust playback volume to the same level. The manual indicates this must also be done on the Ipod. I can't find the menu option on the Nano.
I've looked under Settings and these are my choices: About - Shuffle - Repeat - Main Menu - Volume Limit - Backlight - Audio books. I tried "Volume Limit" but that only is for "locking" the volume, not adjusting each song.
    Any ideas?

    1)- Turn on the iPod
2)- Scroll down & select "Settings"
3)- Scroll down to "Sound Check" & click on it

  • Sound Check Alternatives?

Background - iPhone 6, iPad 2, several other older devices; all running iOS 8.1.1 or whatever the most recent version that the device can handle; current version of iTunes running on a WIndows PC.  No WiFi or iCloud sync, all cables and old school.
Due to ongoing music sync issues with iTunes (seeIOS 8 won't sync music with itunes if you're really interested), I've been forced to use several non-Apple applications to provide the sync functionality that iTunes previously did for me.  I can say without reservation that although this is complicated, and involves several pieces of software, it works well, and it's been working well for weeks.  Which is more than I can say for iTunes, which hasn't worked well since the iOS8 update.
    But I digress.
The ONLY function that I have not been able to replicate is volume normalization across my entire library of 6000+ songs, which I previously achieved using SoundCheck both within iTunes and across all of my Apple devices, in conjunction with an application called iVolume which further fine tunes the volume differences.  So whether I choose to shuffle and play my entire library, or any number of songlists, the volume remains somewhat consistent, I don't have to keep messing with it on my phone, in the car, etc.
No iTunes = no Sound Check, no iVolume, no nothing.  This is again limited to NEW tracks that I am downloading and copying directly over to my iPhone 6 and iPad 2.  Existing songs on those devices were synced via iTunes using Sound Check on both ends before the iOS8 issues arose, I simply can't sync new music via iTunes without everything disappearing (see previous post on music sync issues).  So these newer songs are not volume normalized, they could be OK, loud, soft, anything.
Since this is really a device side issue for me, I first started looking for device-side apps which provided volume normalization.  I couldn't find a thing, not in the non-jailbroken Apple App Store where I live.  Next I've been searching for a WIndows PC application for volume normalization, the only thing that keeps coming up is MP3Gain and I'm not entirely comfortable with the application particularly when it comes to AAC or anything but MP3 files.  I'm also not sure about what gets changes in MP3Gain versus SoundCheck/iVolume which are reversable changes.  Another approach would be to create a new library on my iPhone/iPad using MP3 files that comes directly from the iTunes Media folder, if those mp3 files have been modified by SoundCheck/iVolume and would retain those changes when copied directly over to the iPhone.  I ran a test with one file but could not tell if the volume was the same or different versus the same file copied over from my normal music library, but this could work as a Plan B.
Bottom line - I am looking for an alternative(s) to SoundCheck/iVolume in a WIndows PC environment and without the use of iTunes whatsoever, that will allow me to normalize volumes across my entire library of 6000+ tracks without potential/permanently damaging my music files.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I believe the most popular free audio editing software for Windows is Audacity.  I've used it to normalize volume and then exported to MP3 before, so it's do-able.  It may not be the quickest way to normalize multiple files, but at least you also get the visual waveform here so you can see the difference after normalization.
