2GB ipod nano will only allow 40 songs and not 500.

My little sisters ipod nano will only allow forty smoething songs to be downloaded on it, but isn't 2GB supposed to get around 500? There is nothing else on it except music so there isn't anything else taking up memory space. And yes I have restored it numerous times. Please help!

Make sure that the Music files are compressed formats if you want to get the m ost out of the cpacity of your iPod. When the iPod is "advertised" as "500 songs" or what have you, it is based on circumstance that the song is an AAC format (.m4a) and I think an average of 4minutes long.
AAC is as small as you can get. Make sure the tracks are in that format, if they are already, then the tracks must be quite long.

  • My new Ipod Nano has only 14.88GB and not 16GB as promised. Why?

I just bought an Ipod Nano 16GB. I registered it at I-tunes and to my big surprise I realized it only has a capacity of 14.88GB and not 16GB. It is such a difference that it really counts, so I am a bit frustrated.
I have contacted Apple by E-mail, but they keep referring me to another department by saying it is not under their jurisdiction. It is as if they want to silence the matter.
Can anybody explain to me if anything is wrong with my Nano16GB and if so what I shall do next?
    Thank you,
    Posten

This is perfectly normal, some of the listed capacity is used for formatting and other functions including the iPod's operating software. You'll see the same thing if you connect any flash memory stick. For instance my 8GB USB memory stick is reported as 7.45 GB. The same thing happens with hard drives. With hard drives, there's a difference between how manufacturers calculate capacity and how the operating system calculates it. You'll see an example of that if you look at the size reported for your own computer hard drive. My 300 GB hard drive is reported as 279.36 for instance.: How much content will fit on my iPod?

  • TS1363 I'm trying to set up my new ipod nano, it appears in windows and not in itunes- if I reinstall itunes, will the files of other ipod users on the computer be lost?

I'm trying to up my new Ipod Nano, it appears in Windows and not in Itunes, if I reinstall Itunes, will files previously set up by other Ipod users sharing the computer be lost?

You said " I sign in but her music list shows up mixed with about 1/3 of mine."
    Sign in where?
    What music list?
It also sounds like that computer is not authorized for the account. You can only have 5 computers authorized for one account. If yo go to iTunes>Store>View account and then sign in it will tell you how many (but no what computers) are authorized. There is no way to find out what computers are authorized.
You can deauthorize all computer once a year.
    See:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization

  • 1st Gen iPod Nano Will Only Let Me Add One Song At A Time!

Hi. I've got a 1st Gen Nano that has worked fine until recently. Last night, I decided that I wanted to reorganize my library and cleared all the songs off my iPod. I normally maintain my library manually, and have more songs than I do space (I have 4GB), so I wanted to pick and choose the songs I put back on.
I highlighted multiple songs and dragged them over to my iPod, but after three or four, they suddenly stopped transferring. I tried this over and over but the same thing kept happening. Then I tried to automatically sync it just to see what happened and, again, after just a few songs, it simply stopped. (Note that it never froze up or anything.) I shut down, rebooted my laptop and tried yet again -- same thing. I even restored my iPod to factory settings and THAT didn't help.
Apparently, I can only add songs one at a time now -- and I don't get why. I'm wondering if it could be the USB cord? I feel like that could be the issue, yet I wonder if a damaged USB cord would allow any transfers at all...
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance...
    -Heather

  • Nano will only allow 419 songs on it?

Correct me if Im wrong, but isn't this nano supposed to hold 500 songs?
Anyways, under the devices tab on my ipod it shows the capacity at the bottom, this is what mine says:
    Audio-1.74 GB (419 songs)
    Other-31.9 MB
    Free-5.2 MB
What would be other? I have no photos on it. Plz help
    thanks

*Correct me if Im wrong, but isn't this nano supposed to hold 500 songs?*
The advertised song capacity of any of the iPods is a calculation based on 4 minute songs encoded in AAC format at a bit rate of 128 kbps. Longer songs and songs encoded at a higher bitrate or in uncompressed formats take up more space. If for example you were to import full size, uncompressed CD files (AIFF format) or WAV files you would get significantly fewer on. What format are the songs you have imported? Go to iTunes and right click on one of your songs, choose Get Info>Summary and look at "Kind" to see what format you are using. Remember too that if you are using a higher bit rate than 128 kbps even song files in ACC format will be larger: iTunes: About import settings and hard disk space
    *What would be other?*
Other can be Album Artwork, Notes, Contacts, Firmware etc. or (and this doesn't apply to the iPod Touch or iPhone which don't have the option to enabled for disk use), files that are on there if you are using the iPod as a removable storage device. If you feel that Other is being incorrectly reported then try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

  • HT1933 Why are my songs on my ipod nano  greyed out in itunes and not playing ?

My old computer died got a new one downloaded itunes connected my ipod to it all my songs show up but they are greyed out and won't play on i tunes however they still play just fine on my ipod but they won't play on i tunes ..........also how can i sync my ipod to itunes and not lose my music ?

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to remember about manually updating though is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Hey, when i deblockaded my ipod nano 5thgen, all the songs and vids' dissapeared but my memory is still filled as 'others'... How do i get my music back? (restoring doesn't work cuz the songs were from a laptop, but it crashed...) thx!!

Hey everyone, when my ipod( nano, 5th generation) was stucked, i deblockaded it, but then all the music and video's dissapeared.... And  when i check thee info it says '6.4 GB others' and '567 MB free.... And don't know how this could happen but i really want all my music back!! And i cant put all the songs back because the laptop i used for this ipod crashed and it's still in the store to ffix it... So now i have a lapop that i borowod from the store but i only have 100 songs on that laptop ( manual mode, so i can put them on the ipod but i cant tpuch the others)  and that means i would download 1200 songs, and that really takes a long time... And my memory is full, so i can't put new songs on it.... S, the question: is there a way i can get all my songs back?? And if that is impossible, how do i clear my memory, so it's free for new songs??
    Already thanx a lot!!
    mmuuuuaahh,
    Charlaih

Well, shut my mouth!  There was a similar question over to the right about a 6th generation nano repeating over and over again -- I read the answer to that one, followed the instructions, and holy crap, it's back to normal.
Is there a name for this when you end up replying to your own aggravating question?  That's what I did.  Now I can go out and listen.  It's only 91 degrees.  Heaven. Thanks, Apple.

  • My ipod nano will only charge in my computer

I have a 4gen ipod nano, that used to charge with the power adapter, my speakers, my car and my computer but now, none of them would work, except my computer

What do y mean by " cord and cable"? I am confused by the term "and" since the they are one and the same

  • When i press on shuffle to shuffle the songs on my ipod it will play a song and then after the song is done it wot go to the next song it will just replay the same song unless i press next how do i fix this?

Please help me!!!!! I cant figure it out!!!

The only thing I can think of is that you have selected the repeat song option as well. Repeat is on the left and is the 2 arrows making a closed oval. The Shuffle icon on on the right and has the 2 arrows crossing like an X. They "light up" blue when selected. The Repeat icon has 3 modes: off, repeat song and repeat album.
    Hope this helps!

  • I have a Ipod nano with only 128 songs (6mb) with no videos or anything but 128 songs..the ipod summary says i have 3.02GB of  "other"...what is this "other" stuff and how can i get rid of it so i can have more songs on my ipod?!

    ..

The Other section on your iPod consists of a number of different things, including album artwork, your iPod's software, files you may be storing externally on it, games, and a few other things. However, it can usually include corrupt files from failed sync operations with iTunes.  Usually the Other section should only be a small fraction of what's stored on your iPod, usually less than 1 GB.
So it sounds like your iPod may be corrupt, in which case you'll need to connect it to iTunes and restore it to factory settings.
