2GB RAM Upgrade from Crucial

Crucial is offering 2GB of mem at $97 for my Macbook and I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions or comments about their module and whether or not it was worth it.

I have that same stuff - it worked great in my old 2GHz Core Duo and it works great in my new 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo. Great price too

Can I put the 2Gb RAM (X2) from my MacBook Pro into my MacBook? The intel is different (2Ghz not 2.3) and the speed is 2000 not 1333. But they are both DDR3.
I have just upgraded the Pro to 16Gb and the MacBook is SO slow. Just wondering if I could use the old RAM.

    Full specification of MB5.1 RAM;
    204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM, non-ECC (non parity), unbuffered.
    MBP8.1, 8.2 or 8.3;
    204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM, non-ECC (non parity), unbuffered.
PC3 is the same as DDR3. the number is peak transfer rate (approximated).
Further reading suggests your swap may work, but it's not guaranteed. If you get 3 beeps on start up (or the sleep light flashing in bursts of 3), first check it's correctly seated, but be prepared to swap them back.
If you encounter any instability or kernel panics, change them back.

  • 4GB Upgrade from Crucial only recognising 2GB

HI - I've just upgraded my 17" 2.4GHz MBP from 2GB to 4GB using the 2x2GB upgrade pack from Crucial. Problem is that my MBP is only recognising 2GB of it. When I open up 'About This Mac' and click 'More Info' the memory section is telling me that I have 2x1GB sticks installed. I've pulled the sticks and swapped them around ad I've checked that they do actually have 2GB printed on each stick.
Is this a MBP problem or have I bought dodgy RAM ? I'm running Leopard 10.5.1.
    Thanks.

Yours is the 3rd post I've seen in the last 2 days where a Crucial 2gb sodimm is showing as a single 1gb.
It looks like Crucial have accidentally labelled some 1gb sodimms as 2gb.
Crucial ram is usually excellent quality. I'd get in touch with them and get the ram swapped out, but also point them to this forum so they can look up the other two cases. Seems like a major error on their part.
    Best of luck.

  • RAM Upgrade from 2GB to 4GB -- Lots of questions...

I have a MacPro with the two dual core processors. It has 2GB of RAM in the form of four 512GB 667MHz RAM chips.
I want to double my RAM to 4GB, and I wonder what's the best way to do that?
If I double the existing RAM, that would mean 4 more 512GB RAM chips, all running at 667MHz. That would use ALL my chip slots, so that's the most RAM I'd be able to have in that configuration.
So.. why not pull ALL the 512s and replace them with, say, 2 2GB chips? If I do that, could I not also upgrade to 800MHz chips? Is there any reason that 800 MHz chips would be incompatible with my MacPro?
I'm a bit skittish about hardware upgrades, so if anybody's got any suggestions for a resource that can guide me through the process, that would be helpful, too. I'm always afraid I'm gonna bust a pin somewhere and destroy the computer.
    Thanks,
    --PS

4gb of ram isn't really that much. you can add four 512 but you may want more ram at a later time. if you are sure you won't, then go for it. RAM is best adding in groups of 4, but has to be in sets of 2. I would add four 1gb of ram. There are diagrams you can search out to show how to most effectively and properly install it. That would give you 6 gb and that's a pretty decent number for most people. You could add two 2gb. It's not the most efficient method and would not sqeeze every bit of speed from the ram but it would leave two slots open for further upgrading if you so wished. If you aren't a Photoshop person or Final Cut Pro or other heavy user, and just use one application at a time, 4gb is probably adequate. RAM is inexpensive enough for most people with a macpro that going for four x 1gb and moving to 6 is my recommendation. If you do use two x2gb there is no need to remove the 512s other than to possibly move them. dunno about the 800MHz chips. I think you can use them but don't need them and won't make use of the added speed. I'd use all of the same type of RAM just to be cautious.

  • Satellite M50-108: Ram upgrade from 512MB to 1GB

My Laptop model is a M50-108! But i cant see info about this model anywhere, what kind of memory would be best to add to my computer? (512 MB one )!

    Hi,
you surely mean the type because to ask which size would be funny. :) (more is always better)
The right type for that machine is DDR333 and the maximum amount of RAM you can install is 2GB (2 x 1GB memory module).
It does not matter which manufacturer but I can tell you from my experience that a well known brand (kingston, crucial, samsung) is always better then a no name. And try to use two absolutely similar modules because of performance and compatibility reasons.
    Hope I could help.

  • Need Suggestions for 2GB Ram Upgrade

I am looking to upgrade my blackbook to 2GB or RAM for around $200...Please let me know any suggestions you may have along with links if possible. Thanks for your time...
    -Eric

I strongly recommend OWC. Not only do they have excellent prices, but their parts are high quality and all guaranteed to work with mac products. Also, they have excellent videos to install any component.
I've ordered from them dozens of times in the past and they are simply the best in all aspects of the sale:

  • Ram upgrade from 8gb (1333 mhz)

    Hi,
Hope you all are doing good
I plan to upgrade my ram to 16 gb from the current 8gb  (DDR3 1333 MHz)
However could you please help me with the following
    1) Will any ram do or do i need to buy mac specific ram.  for example corsair sells normal ram and ram specifically for macs at a premium.
    2) Can i use a 1600 MHz ram instead of a 1333 MHz ram as i getting it cheaper without doing any long term damage to my mac other than the speed getting reduced to 1333 MHz
    3) which one is better Crucial or G skill as im unable to buy crucial as im on a vacation and crucial is not available
Hope you have a great weekend
    Current  Os ( Mountan lion)
    System Specifications
    Macbook PRO Late 2011 (15 inch md318ll/a )
    Processor : I7 2.2GHz
    Ram : 8gb (crucial)
hard drive : 256 gb (Samsung Evo SSD)

Stick with Crucial or macsales.com (OWC), and get the RAM they recommend. Faster RAM may work, and you may also end up with kernel panics. G. Skill might work, but pretty much all of us here will tell you what I just did.

  • 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo/ 2GB ram upgrade ?

Please could someone tell me if I can upgrade my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo/ 2 GB SDRAM running 10.6.8 to Lion as I need it to run some 2015 software ?
IF I can, what are the dangers I must look for and will my laptop then be even slower than it is now?
    Thank you very much,

    bruf wrote:
Anyway, you think 2011 is the starting point when searching ?
I apologise for my ignorance and thank you again.
You have no reason to apologize.  We all have to start from the beginning in every endeavor.
I too am very happy with my 2006 MBP however with the introduction of HDTV, the 2006 MBP was not up to the task.  That resulted in the purchase of the 2010 17" MBP because I needed that capability.  Technological change does often require newer and better equipment.  As I have alluded to, I still use the 2006 with great pleasure.
I have also purchased a late 2011 17" MBP which I feel is a slightly better machine than the 2010.  The 2011 has SATA3 internal interface whereas the 2010 has SATA2.  What this means is that the 2011 MBP can utilize the full potential of current SSDs whereas the 2010 cannot.  Do not misunderstand, an SSD in a 2010 will still be a significant performance enhancement.  Also a 2011 MBP will accept up to 16GB RAM (also at 1600 MHz) whereas the 2010 can only utilize 8GB RAM (the 2010 13' model being an exception).  The 2011 MBPs also have slightly better GPUs than the 2010.
On the plus side for the 2010 MBP, it is more energy efficient than the 2011.  In other words, longer battery run time.
The 2011 MBP has a quadcore CPU which is not the great advance that some may lead you to believe.  It shines only when a given application can utilize the parallel processing that it affords.  Though not as critical, do opt for the fastest CPU available if there is a choice.
I like the 17" displays in the newer MBPs  (late 2008 and newer) due to the 1980 x 1200 resolution.  That is compatible with HDTV.  The retina display are nice, but not nice enough to warrant my purchase of a 15" model.
Both my 2010 and late 2011 MBPs will run any applications that a newer MBP will, but perhaps not quite as fast.  Neither is obsolete, yet.
    Ciao.

  • Win2k3 RAM upgradation from 4GB to 16GB

    Hi,
Can we upgrade RAM from 4GB to 16GB in windows 2003 SP2 (32 bit) standard edition, by enabling PAE?
This is VM and hosted on 4.1 esxi.

See the link below but basically no.  If your running 2003 SP2 Standard then its only 4GB limit.  If your on Server 2003 Enterprise then you can go higher.

  • RAM upgrade from 1gig to 2gig for 1.83 Mac Mini Core 2 duo

I have the new 1.83 gig mac mini and attempting to upgrade ram. Once opened, the ram slots are not easily available, unlike the older versions where you just snap it when the cover is removed. Is there any video instructions out there? The one I found on some threads is for the older versions. Thanks

it is fairly simple once you have the case open there is 4 screws take them out to remove the cd drive and it flips up and back then u will see the ram.
two things to remeber the fan cable in the front (Small black looks like a jumper with wires) make sure to put that back on.
    and
i disconnected the wifi antenna on accident had to open the case back up and snap it back on the airport card.
I have two intel minis and picked up a 2x2 gig set and put one in each computer 2.5gb in both now. both done in less then an hr

  • Sore thumbs from iMac RAM upgrade

iMac 27" i7 Ram upgrade from 4GB to 16GB, boy, these ram upgrade really gave my thumbs a hard workout! I've had at least a dozen Ram upgrades across PCs and laptops, never had to push the Rams in as hard as I did today. Still sore thumbs after 3 hours!

    Try hard they pop up.
I just insert a 2x$GB in the free slots and it come with 2x2GB so like 12Gb.
Do you know the plastic tabs to remobe the modules?
I saw that one of them is like the paper in the photo,i see you have some experience upgrading ram so because none answer my post i decide asking you directly.
The 2011 imac is working for almost three months and it recognize the new memory modules but now i know that one of the tabs is touching a ram module,is that big problem?I mean no just because the static energy more because if the module become too hot(I even know if they become hot by use) the tab can burn,is something to worry about or just ignore it?
    Thank you very much.

  • 2GB RAM too much for 1Ghz Powerbook?

    Hi
In order to speed up my G4 17" 1 Ghz Powerbook, especially for Photoshop Elements, I upgraded to 2GB RAM. The Crucial Memory Scanner said that was the max allowable (although I ended up buying Samsung memory from an eBay dealer). My computer seems to be actually working slower now, though it is basically working ok. On looking at the tech spec for my Powerbook from Apple Support I then found this: "two SO-DIMM slots support up to 1GB".
Have I put in too much RAM now (who is right about my memory capacity - Apple or Crucial?), or does it make a difference that I bought cheaper RAM than Crucial or Kingston for example? (Presumably if the RAM was suspect I'd have bigger problems?)
Excuse the scattergun questions - I'm just trying to work out if I'd be better off reinstalling my original pair of 512MB modules, or leave in the 2GB and look at other issues in my computer for improving speed.
    Many thanks.

To add to eww's excellent advice, there is a note on my RAM vendor's website page for your PowerBook stating that the 17" G4 1G PowerBook is one of four PowerBooks that uses "bus slewing" and have special RAM requirements.
I recall a couple of years ago there was a little...well, call it a "public disagreement" for lack of a cruder term....among RAM vendors over bus slewing and the right RAM. Crucial was accused in these forums and by other companies of failing to recognize the requirements bus slewing placed on the RAM. However, this seems to have settled down as I see posts here stating more recent Crucual RAM worked. You could call Crucial and ask if the part number you bought supports bus slewing. I'm sure they will make certain you get the correct type from them.
Oops, nearly forgot! Bus slewing is explained in this Apple Technical paper on the 15" 1 G PowerBook. Scroll down about a half page to the section "Processor and Bus Slewing."

  • RAM Upgrade - (2) 256's + (2) 512's?

All the research I have done into upgrading my RAM suggests matching what I already have. My question is, I currently have a dual 1.8 G5 with 512 RAM (2 256 sticks) -- in order to upgrade do I need to get another two 256 sticks to get to 1gb total, or can I get two 512 sticks for a total of 1.5gigs? I would prefer to get to 1.5 gigs if mixing the individual modules does not matter.
If you want to recommend a memory brand too, that would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    SD
    1.8 Dual G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   512 RAM

    Hi SD,
I to have a Dual 1.8ghz and as far as i am aware you can add any amount of ram configurations you want so long as you add in Pairs. For example i have 2x256mb and 2 x 512mb and all is well. Prior to this i had 4x512mb chips and that was ok to. Put the max you can in, it will make all the differsnce and fir the record my ram was from CRUCIAL: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listProductLine.asp?cat=RAM&mfr=Apple&submit=Go
    Hope this helps.

  • Experiencing frequentBeach balls after RAM upgrad

I have a Macbook pro 13'' early 2011. I replaced my hard drive and performed a clean install of OS X 10.9.5 and started experiencing constant beach balls and system freezing. theses issues occurred on new administrator accounts and my old admin account restored from a time machine back up. I upgraded my RAM from 4 GB to 8GB but I still get the beach balls. The system freezing is most frequent when I use transmission.
The RAM is from crucial and and the hard drive from OWC, both compatible with the mac. Is there any way to fix it?

I performed a scan of the mac and got this info about the hardware and software
