2H 20 minutes mp3 file shows 4 minutes 30 seconds in iTunes!

I have a large mp3 file that I added to iTunes.
In iTunes that piece of music shows up as 4 minutes something.
When I play it, it starts at 0:00 goes all the ways to the end (4:30) then the music goes on
but the time counter stays stuck at 4:30. No way of knowing when the file will end.
I went in OPTIONS to change the start and end times for that piece of music but it doesn't change anything.
When I play the file in VLC, the correct lenght of the file is shown (as in other players also)
Is there any way to change the way iTunes interpretes the infos or metainfos about that file?
Thanks

I remember having a problem like this many years ago with an mp3. Probably some incorrect information or corrupt element. Download mp3Trimmer and open the file in mp3Trimmer. Then just save it again to a new name. It won't damage your original and that may just help it clean up the file. Also read the mp3Trimmer website because I know there are various repair utilities you could try.

  • Some mp3 files do not play after upgrading to iTunes 8.0

some mp3 files do not play after upgrading to iTunes 8.0
have upgraded and some songs which used to play on iTunes 7 no longer play. album art is missing. when trying to play on of these songs, nothing appears in the playbar at the top of the window.
it seems the same problem exists in the mac os environment.

The solution I discovered to fix this problem was to create a smart playlist with all song of a kind containing MPEG. Then I went through album by album, and coverted ID3 tags using the value of NONE. This then enabled me to play the songs in iTunes 8.0 and in many cases restored the Album Art.
    Thanks!

  • How to transfer mp3 files to 4s from a PC without itunes?

How to transfer mp3 files to 4s from a PC without itunes?

No can do. Closest you can do is to use iCloud and iTunes Match. Otherwise, for mp3 files you will have to import them to iTunes on the computer and then sync them to the phone.

  • How can I extract both my mp3 file and its associated .jpg out of itunes

    Hi everybody,
I'm a DJ and once a month, I like to share a set of mine with my friends. For each set, I also make a dedicated flyer.
I usually put the recorded set in Itunes, then I add the flyers using the "Illustration" (I'm using a French version) tag.
Then, I drag the new file (both the .mp3 and .jpg) on a folder on my computer and I can see the flyers and not the normal Mac icon for music file.
I had always worked, but today I tried to do the same but it doesn't work anymore. In Itunes, my mp3 file contain the flyers, but when I drag it to another folder, the flyer is not there anymore.
    What happened???
does anybody know a freeware to associate a mp3 with a .jpg?
    Thanks for your help,
    Have a nice day
    Jean

    Bonjour.
I'm not firm with the french iTunes but I'm sure its similar to all other iTunes in the world, except the language of the menus.
You can include the cover (Illustration) inside the music file. mp3, AAC or Lossless makes no difference.
    To do so go to:
The song (or songs) by marking it (them) in the main iTunes window. Then right click mouse (or two fingers on touchpad) and choose "Information"
In the information window go to the tab called "cover"
Move the wanted picture via drag & drop into this window. The best format for such illustrations are 500 x 500 pixels. If yours are bigger then iTunes will resize it to fit.
    Click on save
If you will change the cover for more than one file (song) you will be ask "you are sure to change all files"
    Simply press ok
After that the cover will show up in iTunes and will be exported within the file if you pass the song to others..
There is no reason to place the cover / Illustration in the Music folder cause iTunes uses for imported covers the "Album Artwork" Folder in the Library.

There are a few things you can do to copy your songs from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • I cannot copy or transfer mp3 files stored on external drive back into itunes so i can listen to book again

    Hi,
I mostly use itunes for listening to audiobooks which I have been collecting for years. Have hundreds of them. A few years ago when computer too full and my itunes library too big I carefully copied the books onto an external hard drive as mp3 files and then removed them from itunes. (At that stage I really wanted a non itunes library backup as I had already lost library a couple of times....now I understand the itunes back up a bit more and can use it.)
However I have lots of my favourite books on an external drive and I want to listen to them again. I cannot go to the folder holding a book, select all the the mp3 files that make up the book and drag them into my itunes music file as I can with a mp3 disc. There are 73 files on the first book i want to move!
Itunes has been selected as the default player and will play the files but I cannot transfer them.
Under details on a file it reads NOT PROTECTED
I am  the administrator of my computer, indeed am its only user.
Cannot think of anything else that might  be useful.
    hope you can help
    Elizabeth

luckily that is also backed up on the external drive too so I'll try looking there, but do you have any thoughts on why I can't get the backed up files to stay on the PC correctly ? because until they are back on my PC I can't use it or get the rankings back right?

  • Re: mp3 files will not open or play in iTunes

I received these files on a cd from a friend. They are lectures by the Dalai Lama at Harvard. They will play fine with RealPlayer, but when I try to play them on iTunes, I get the spinning beach ball and must force quit.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Are you positive they are in mp3 format? Try using MediaInfo Mac and get the codec description. It should say MPEG Layer III or something similar.
Will the files play in Quicktime?
iTunes has been known to not play some mp3 files, but we should ascertain first these are definitely mp3. If they truly are then sometimes the free utility MP3 Scan+Repair has been known to fix issues.

    Hi,
I was trying to stream a mp3-file from a server and listen to it on my iPhone. At the first time it worked all right, but when I wanted to listen a second time I got the error message "The server is not configured correctly.", after quicktime started, and nothing happened.
I tried to reset the iPhone and again got the error message.

Does anybody experience similar problems when clicking on the link with an iPhone 4? Do I miss something?
    Thanks for help or suggestions,
    Klaus

There are 3 things you can try.
Hard reset -Hold home and power button until apple logo is displayed -Release let device reboot -test it out.
If issue persists -go to Settings>gerneral>reset>reset all settings -test.
    Issue persisting still??
Last but not least restore and setup as new, this will erase EVERYTHING make sure contacts/calendars are in the iCloud or synced in windows Contacts/Addressbook/outlook, or Addressbook on a mac, and Calendars in Outlook, or iCal
make sure to transfer your purchases, in iTunes windows or mac - File at top left - Transfer purchases.
Transfer photos via iPhoto, windows scanner camera wizard, or Windows Photo Gallery

  • Making mp3 files show as audiobooks in iTunes 7

iTunes 7 seems to recognised SOME of my audiobooks correctly and put them in the right library category. But most of them are still in the music library. I wouldn't care, but in some cases there are some chapters of the same book in one section and some in the other.
Is there a way to move a group of tracks into the Audiobook section so they can all be together?
    Thanks.

  • HOW Do I Store All My MP3 files on an external drive, and point iTunes?

I see on this forum that folks are storing byte-hogs like MP3 and MP4 files on an external hard drive, leaving the internal drive with more room for processing.
My internal drive is full, so I got a 2 Tb external drive where I want to store my MP3 and MP4 files.
After I move the files to the external drive, HOW do I point iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie to the external drive?

Type "move itunes library to external drive" into the search bar at the top of this screen next to "Support".

  • No Song Info for mp3 files that haven't been imported by iTunes??

Since iTunes won't automatically recognize an mp3 CD, I just drag and drop into my iTunes library. However, when I try to use the get track info for the mp3s I dragged in, I get a message saying; "iTunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes. To allow iTunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using iTunes." Is there any way to get iTunes to automatically import an mp3 CD as it would automatically import an audio CD? I can't think of any other way to get around this problem.

  • Importing existing MP3 files from my My Music folder to iTunes

I added a bunch of music from cd to my My Music folder using WMP. How can I get the iTunes program to import all of the music (60 or 70 cds worth) and convert it without having to do it one song at a time? Didn't it do the same thing the first time I installed iTunes?

I have all of my music on a dedicated hard drive in hierarchal folders for artist then albums & etc. If I add new music, assuming all of the new music I add is not from the same artist, I would have to do the add folder menu option for each new artist or album (Holding Shift or Ctrl while selecting folders does not select folders cumulatively). The only way I'd be able to add multiple folders at one time is to choose my highest folder 'My Library' but I'm afraid if I choose this, I will create duplicate copies of the thousands of songs I already have.
Is there a better way choose multiple folders to add new Artist - Albums - Songs to the iTunes Library?
Will iTunes copy a song if it already knows that song is in your library?
    Thanks,

  • Why can't I burn mp3 files in the order I choose? iTunes alphabetizes!

I have set up a playlist in the exact order I want the songs to go--in alpha order by album, but no matter what I do, when I try to burn the playlist, iTunes burns it in alpha order by song title.
Tell me that this is not the only way iTunes will allow you to burn playlists, please.

Hey - thanks for the pointer to the help doc, but it doesn't make sense to me -- the first hint says:
How to burn by playlist order
    1. Create your playlist.
    2. Click "Song" to sort the playlist by song.
    3. Make sure the songs are in the order you want to hear them on the CD.
    4. Click Burn CD.
    5. Insert a blank CD and burn the disc.
#2 - Click "Song" to sort the playlist by song... ? So, where is this mysterious "song" button to click? Right now, I have it sorted by artist, because that's how I'd like it to play, but I don't see an option for song. And at the moment, no matter what I select to sort it by, it burns in alphabetical order by song title.
None of this makes sense to me.

  • Help!!  My iphone shows up for five seconds on Itunes and then disappears!!

My iphone shows up in itunes for about 10 seconds. Before I can do anything, it disappears. I upgraded to the new software today. I already tried a soft reset by pressing the top key and the home key.
I am so frustrated!!!!!!!!! Please Help!!!!

    bigpoodle2333,
If you view this topic in threaded view, it shows that Damon was responding to a specific post in the thread. To enable this setting click on the "My Settings" button in the right hand column.
As I understand it your iPhone shows up for a few seconds and then disappears in iTunes, is that correct?
Has it ever synced successfully in the past?
Is your iPhone connected directly to one of the USB ports on the motherboard of your computer? For example, not through a USB hub, with many Windows-based PCs the front USB ports are actually a USB Hub.
Do you have any pictures in the camera roll, and if so, do you have any other hardware for taking pictures connected such as a webcam, memory card reader, or all-in-one printer that includes a memory card reader?
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Music plays in iTunes, but NONE of the MP3 files are visible in Explorer

This one is a bit of a mystery.
When I open up any of the folders in my iTunes Music folder, they appear to be empty. No MP3 files are listed at all. Yet, iTunes can still play the music.
    Here are the details:
    1. I keep my iTunes media content on an external hard drive, and iTunes is working fine. Some albums have disappeared but most of my music shows up in iTunes and plays properly. Therefore, the music files have to be there.
    2. When I right-click on my iTunes folder in Windows Explorer and choose "properties" I get a result: Explorer scans the folder and tells me I have 98.8 gigabytes in 18,279 files, (though when I look around, I see that a LOT of albums are missing). Yet, Windows Explorer is finding a lot of files even though I can’t see them.
    3. However, when I right-click on a folder inside my iTunes folder and choose “properties” (the folders for each artist and for each album are still there and still visible) I get weird results. It says that there is some small amount of data in each folder (27 kilobytes or 35 kilobytes) and some random number of files (2, or 5, or 6). It doesn't matter how many songs are actually on that album, it just gives me this small unrelated number. Yet, I can’t see any files listed at all.
    4. Under the View tab in Folder Options, everything looks fine to me. I don’t see a setting there that would hide MP3 files.
    5. I tried checking “show hidden files” and all that sort of thing, but nothing changed.
    6. I did a virus scan and it revealed no threats.
    7. I also went into the Command Prompt and used the dir command to see what was there. I could see all of my folders including my iTunes music folder. I have pictures, Word documents, Excel files, etc on this external folder as well. I can see all of these files no problem. I can also see all the Artist and Album folders in my iTunes music folder. However, even using the dir command, I can’t see any songs – there are no MP3 files visible. I reveal hidden and system files (dir /ah), I then see some files like these:
    desktop.ini
    AlbumArtSmall.jpg
    Folder.jpg
    8. I tried to play the music from VLC media player and Windows Media Player, but that doesn’t work because the files can’t be seen by those programs either.
    9. However, when I open iTunes, all the music is there and playable. Only iTunes sees the music.
Anyone have any idea what could have happened? The one thing I changed recently is that I ran the iTunes Genius function. It scanned my music and did what it was supposed to do, and it worked fine. I doubt that Genius could have done this to my external hard drive. I’m guessing I picked up a computer virus somehow, but my virus scan doesn’t reveal anything.
Anyone have any ideas about what is going on?
    Thanks!
    Doug

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!
You were absolutely right, Rob. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I've got nearly 200 Artist folders with 1,000 or so Album folders - and they are all completely empty of music.
But in the middle of that long list of folders, there is an innocuous looking folder labelled "Music." I looked inside that folder and, bam, there they were - all 92 gigabytes of my missing music files in a complete copy of all those Artist and Album folders.
I thought I was going crazy! How could iTunes be playing all this music when as far as I could tell, it had all vanished? But there it was. As you said, iTunes had simply moved it down a level in the folder hierarchy and then didn't delete all the original folders.
And as I scanned the original list of Artist folders, I also saw the other folders: Podcasts, Audiobooks, iPod Games, etc. I hadn't even noticed them before. I just assumed that all the folders I was looking at were Artist folders.
Thank you so much, Rob. I'm not sure I would have ever solved this "case of the missing music files" on my own. I would have continued to bang my head against "hidden files" settings and all that. Perhaps I would have tracked these files down by looking for their location using "Get Info" in iTunes. But maybe not. I had no reason to suspect that I didn't know where the music files were: after all, the Artist and Album folders were all right there. They were just empty! I was so focused on the folders being empty, it never occured to me that iTunes had created exact duplicate folders somewhere else.
Do you know if iTunes had any practical reason for leaving all those empty folders behind? I'm just wondering if it is safe to manually delete them. I noticed, for example, that they aren't completely empty. They contain hidden files of Album Art and various ini files. I wouldn't want to delete them and then find out that I just deleted all my album art and a bunch of important settings files.
Thanks again. You saved my neck with this one.
