2LIS_03_UM Running way too long in BWQ Quality environment- ideas

Hi, I am initializing my Materials and everything has gone fine except that  I have some UM Valuations taking way too long.
1. 2LIS_03_BX - 15 Minutes
2. 2LIS_03_BF -  45 Minutes for 1 Year of transactions took
3. 2LIS_03_UM - 7 Parallel Jobs 1 for each plant
All UM's were under 45 min except for 2 plants.  Plant 2000 just finished in 8.5 hours and Plant 1000 is still running for over 10 hours.   I verified the background parameters and the variant for plant 1000 is for 03/31/2011 - 12/31/999 and for plant 1000.
any ideas why these two last UM setups would be taking sooooo long?
What will I do if my setup in Production takes this long?

Hi,
Typically UM will have less number of postings. Please try to run this with only posting date selection ( without plant ).
The job might get completed faster.
Thanks,
Krishnan.

In the app store where it says waiting, do you get the option to "resume"?

  • Time machine backups take way too long

    Greetings,
Having trouble with Time Machine backups taking way too long. (No, it's not the first backup after some momentous event, as 90% of what I read about slow backups mentions; it's _every_ backup.)
20" iMac purchased Oct 2008. OS 10.6.8. 500 GB internal hard drive. 3 TB external backup drive. Was tested at the local "Genius" Bar, but they found nothing wrong with it. The best they could do is to recommend a restore from Time Machine, and if that didn't work, start clean and reload the OS and then copy my stuff back. I don't think so. I actually did a full Time Machine restore for a different reason, and it didn't help (except that I gained a few GB of disk space!).
My Time Machine backups now take about 39 minutes to complete. I have a 500 GB internal drive and this problem happens regardless of which external drive I use. (I have 3: 2 WD hard drives and one [noisy!] G-drive.) My current backup drive is a 3 TB WD drive with 2 TB of free space.
These are small incremental backups, typically about 35 MB. It doesn't take half an hour to copy 35 MB!
All phases take a long time, but the most irritating one is where TM appears to get stuck for a long time at the beginning and end of the copying phase. For example, at one point it will say something along the lines of Backing Up 7 KB of 34.4 MB. And it'll be like that for minutes on end. Later it will say something like 35 MB of 35 MB and hang there for minutes on end. During these periods the write I/O rate will go up and down, and CPU usage will often be very high (with backupd using 90 - 100%, in addition to highly elevated System CPU usage). In one particular backup the I/O write rate for one part of it looked like a heartbeat on an EKG! I should have taken a screenshot.
At the beginning during the Calculating Changes phase, backupd is using between 90 and 100% CPU.
There is also high CPU usage during the next phase, Preparing. And the number of items being prepared is in the thousands.
It always goes in two rounds because it finds that the root directory (/) has been modified.
I've Googled and searched Mac forums and found nothing useful. I started with a new .plist file and nothing's changed.
    Can anyone help? Thanks!
I wrote the above Jun 28. Yeah, finally getting around to posting it. Since then it's gotten worse. I now do a manual backup once a day and it takes almost an hour. I tried re-indexing Spotlight. No good.
Can anyone help? Again, this is not a "first backup." It is _every_ backup.
    Thanks!
    AEF

Thanks for your efforts. Here are my answers, comments, and further info:
I believe I have repaired permissions on my drive as part of my troubleshooting. And I'm sure I checked SMART status, which came up with a thumbs up, so to speak. I'm trying again. I don't see any useful messages in any logs on the console. I'm looking at "All Messages" and there is so far nothing useful. Oh, I think you must mean repair as in "Repair Disk," not "Repair Disk Permissions." I believe the "genius" at the Apple store did that or something just as good. The machine checked out fine according to them.
Checked SMART status just now: passed. Ran Quick Drive Test: also passed.
Oh, I installed "Time Machine Buddy". Occasionally, and only occasionally, I get a "deep traversal needed message" like this (I copied this from .Backup.log):
Running preflight for "Macintosh HD" (mount: '/' fsUUID: BF606E9A-5FD0-3B92-8D76-33DC63E7B2B1 eventDBUUID: 30DD929D-8982-46C2-BAE6-F0BD1E73916A)

Should copy 2919 items (27.8 MB) representing 7116 blocks of size 4096. 546805181 blocks available.

Time elapsed: 1 minute, 39.000 seconds
But the vast majority of the time I do NOT get this message. But if there's something wrong with this apdb file, what can I do to fix it?
Note that there is usually, if not always, a lot of CPU activity or I/O (disk) activity, but not a lot getting done.

  • Quicktime Conversion Export Takes Way Too Long

    I am using FCE2.
    I have a 28-minute project that I am trying to export to a quicktime movie. (h.264 640x480 29.97FPS)
Every time I export, it takes 6 hours to complete! When I play it back, the quality is bad. It skips like there are not enough FPS.
I have tried adjusting the compression, size, FPS everything...but it just doesn't come out right. I have the latest versions of quicktime pro, and FCE2.
Something is wrong. Isn't 6 hours way too long? My computer gets real hot and the fan is constantly on while it's crunching.
What do I need to change? Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Ah I think I figured it out.
I did another test project with the same source DV file, but didn't do ANY editing to it.
It took 2 minutes to export a 70mb reference mov file from a 7 minute DV sequence.
Then I cropped & resized the sequence by changing parameters in the "motion" tab.
Then it took 20 minutes to export a much larger reference mov file from the same 7 minute DV sequence.
Then I clicked "render all" after selecting every render option in the drop-down menu.
Then it took less than 1 minute to export a 70mb reference mov file from the same 7 minute DV sequence.
So I guess I was having problems because I didn't render "everything", because I didn't select "FULL" on the drop-down menu for rendering. I thought only RED segments in the timeline needs to be rendered prior to export, but apparently the "FULL" render must be selected as well so that the entire timeline is nice and purple. (or some shade of blue)
Also, a cropped and resized video is very large in size (GB) if it is exported as a reference file only without prior rendering. * Can someone else confirm that this is the normal behavior in FCE? *
Oh well, lesson learned.. This movie is going to take a very long time to export, and result in a very large file. But I can't use it without cropping & resizing it!

  • Installing OS X on a new hard drive taking way too long?

I switched out my old 250 GB hard drive that shipped with my MacBook Pro for a new 640 GB WesternDigit drive. I'm trying to use a Mavericks installer USB to install on my newly formatted hard drive, but it's taking way too long - I mean, I left it going overnight (about 7.5 hours), and when I came down, it wasn't even half done. Is there anything I can do here? I'd like to use my laptop. Thank you very much for any suggestions.

Do you have a internet connection? Even with a USB installer that if good and functioning properly you need an internet connection to Authenticate the install with your Apple ID.
If your old drive is still functioning you can connect it to your Mac with a SATA to USB adapter and use the Recovery HD on that original drive to reinstall Mavericks on the new drive.
If the drive is no longer functioning and you have no way of getting to the Apple internet download for Mavericks then you will need to start with an install of the original version of OS X that came on your Mac when new then update and or upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then use the Mac App Store to reinstall Mavericks. There is not other way to do this. So save yourself some time and trouble and start fresh.
If your original drive is still functioning and it had Mavericks installed on it you can also CLONE that drive to the new one once you connect it to your mac with some type of SATA to USB adapter or enclosure.
If the Mavericks USB installer you have was made from a Mac that came with Mavericks pre-installed on it that will not work on your Mac.

  • I've stuck with Entourage way too long. Now I don't dare install the Mavericks OS because all my Entourage files will go away. And my iMac won't open Mac Mail (probably because I've never opened it in the 5 - 6 years I've owned the Mac.) Any suggestions?

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.
If there are specific tasks you need help with:

  • Entering Mail on TM Takes WAY TOO LONG! How can I fix this?

When I enter TM, to rebuild a mail box for a specific day, it takes WAY TOO LONG! My mistake was keeping over 16000 emails from the years I have been using TM. Is there a solution to help solve this? I cleaned out my existing mailbox but its too late.
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciate.

Such an error is usually a problem with a cookie that is too large and not the URL, unless there is really a lot of GET data appended. Cookies are send as part to the HTTP response headers.
If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file <i>cookies.sqlite</i> that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> and <b>cookies.txt</b>, if they exist, in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • It's taking way too long for my messages to load.

Starting on Tuesday this week (10/14) it is taking way too long for my messages to load from my Gmail account. Once the message finally shows up in the Inbox, it's taking up to 10-15 min for the message to load where I can actually view the message. I'm going to have to move to another email application if this can't be resolved which is very unfortunate as I've enjoyed using Thunderbird up until now.

I guess I'm at least happy to know it's not just me. I've had to abandon Thunderbird for now. I guess I'll keep an eye out for future updates.

  • IMac takes way too long to initialize

    Hi all,
when I start my 17" iMac intel duo core it takes way too long to start-up. This is a recent phenomena. Before (presumably before I did something to the computer to cause this) the start-up time was very quick as it should be. I've 2 GB of RAM - so I know it's not a RAM issue. I've lots of hard disk storage left too. I just can't figure out what's taking it so long, nor do I know how to remedy the cause.
Also, I have Windows XP installed as a partition, and when I restart going to windows, or coming back to OSX 10.4.11 the initialize time is too long.
Note that i've tried all steps listed in troubleshooting in the iMac User's Guide, and they don't work.
    1. Has anyone any thoughts about how to revert to the quick start-up times?
    2. Does anybody know what keys to hold so that when you power on the iMac you can choose which operating system to start in?
    Any help is appreciated,
    Vincenso

Auto login meaning that you do not type in your name and password when you first boot up. Do you have a lot of fonts installed on this machine? There may be something or many things set to auto launch when you sign in and depending on what it is may take a while to load up. Anit-virus software? Go to your Apple menu in the top left corner of the Finder and go to your System Preferences. Click on Accounts, your user, then Login Items. There it will show you a list of all the applications that launch when you sign in.

  • Query running for too long

    Hi All,
Can someone pls help me in finding how long will it take to execute the below query.
I have a query that is taking too long to execute.
    SELECT   CPU_TIME/1000000/60 CPUTIME, ELAPSED_TIME/1000000/60 ELAPSEDTIME, PROGRAM_LINE#, OPTIMIZER_COST,

    http://www.gplivna.eu/papers/v$session_longops.htm
There is a dynamic performance view v$session_longops that is populated for many long running operations in Oracle. The primary criterion for any operation to appear in v$session_longops is to run more than 6 seconds. Although this isn’t the only criterion as well as not all operations that take more than 6 seconds are shown in this view. For example one can find hash joins in v$session_longops, but you won’t find there nested loop joins even if they are longer than 6 seconds and are joining very big data sets.

  • Profile WS run time too long

My first test run (in dev) of the custom Java PWS against a SQL server database seems to be taking too long. Its seems to be taking appx. 1 second or more per user. This will be a problem when processing around 20,000 users. We can't have a PWS running for 4-6 hours everynight.
I'd really appreciate any tips to optimize this for faster performance. I am opening DB Connection and running 2 queries for each users and clsoing the statement and connection. Can I do this another way so I open the DB connection(and maybe statement) for the Profile Source only once and release the connection etc. after the whole job is done or in case of errors.
Please help as this could be a huge bottleneck for us!
    Thanks.

    Hi Akash,
Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately I don't have any signature field to limit the profile sync by. I am currently running the PWs in ToMCAT 4.1.30. We plan to deploy on WAS in dev. I am not sure if there is connection pooling being done by Tomcat in 4.1.30 version. Do you have any information on that? I am doing db connect and 2 property queries in the getuserproperties method.
    1. Would the connection pooling (if done in WAS) make any difference to the run time?
    2. Would opening the connection in initialize() method versus GetUserProperties() make any difference?
As always, thanks for your help.
    Vanita
------- Akash Jain wrote on 3/1/05 1:25 PM -------Hi Vanita,On recent hardware, you should be able to perform an initial profile sync at at a rate of ~10/second. This means you should be able to perform your 20k users profile sync in under an hour. Resyncs should be much faster if you use a signature attribute.
I'm going to assume you're hitting some database backend with a table structure like the following:Users Table String UserGUID Date LastModified
Properties Table int PropID String UserGUID String PropValue
You have your users keyed off a unique name - a GUID in this example - and properties in a seperate table keyed off PropID and GUID.
Lets review the protocol and each step:a) initialize() - sends the parameters of the profile sync to the PWS, this is a good place to do a single query to your database in order to cache all user unique names and signatures (LastModified dates) in a HashTable. This will make re-syncs much faster since subsequent AttachToUser() and GetUserSignature() calls will be derived from this HashTable.b) attachToUser() - in this call you can simply lookup your user record against the HashTable created in Initialize(). If no entry is returned, then throw a NoSuchUserException. If a user does exist continue.c) getUserSignature() - again use the HashTable created in Initialize() to lookup the signature for this user. return it as a String.d) getUserProperties() - if called, this means the signature you sent back in step (c) has changed since the last profile sync. you now want to make a call to your properties table (a single DB call) to load all the property values for the user. return these as a UserPropertyInfo object.
During an initital sync, you will always get to step (d) above. During re-syncs, assuming there is low churn, I'd say a max of 1% of your calls will get to step (d) and thus the re-sync should be an order of magnitude faster in most cases.
With respect to database connections - if you are opening and closing a connection for each user, this is pretty poor with respect to performance. Your best bet in Java is to use a single connection (this is a single threaded process) which is setup in initialize(). In the shutdown() method, close this connection.
I hope this helps, the combination of using a single connection, using the signature attribute and caching all the users unique names and signatures in one call at the start of the profile sync should drastically increase performance.
    Thanks,Akash

  • Attribute Change run taking too long time to complete.

    Hi all,
Attribute change run has been taking too long time to complete. It has to realign 50 odd aggreagates, some by delta , some by reconstruction. But inspite of all the aggregates it used to finish in quick time earlier. But since last 4-5 days it is taking indefinite time to finish.
Can anyone please suggest what all reasons may be causing this? and what possibly can be the solution to the problem? It is becoming a big issue. So kindly help with ur advises.
Promise to reward your answer liberally.
    Regards,
    Pradyut.

    Hi,
Check with your functional owners in R/3 if there are mass changes/realignments or classification changes are going on regarding master data. e.g. reasigning materials to other material groups. This causes a major realignment in BW for all the aggregates. Otherwise check for parameterchanges / patches or missing db stats with your sap basis team.
    Kind regards, Patrick Rieken.

  • Query taking way too long

    Hello,
    Can somebody please help.
I am wanting to change this query so that it does not take too long. How can I do it please?
    select count(*), t.tel_no, t.prospect_id, a.ACCOUNT_NO, a.account_title
    from tel_nos t, account a
    where t.tel_type = 'S'
    AND t.prospect_id = a.prospect_id
AND SYSDATE BETWEEN t.start_date AND NVL(t.end_date, SYSDATE)
    group by t.tel_no, t.prospect_id, a.ACCOUNT_NO, a.account_title
    having count(*) > 1
    Thanks in advance.

Tuning is a science not a parlour guessing game. It's hard for us to diagnose the problem you have here as you have given us almost no information. For instance, are you using rule based or cost based optimizer? How big are these two tables? What indexes do they have? What percentage of rows are you expecting the query to return?
Tuning is such a big area that it's hard to know where to begin. I suggest you start at the Oracle docs. Chapters 1, 4 and 5 will set you going.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/A87860_01/doc/server.817/a76992/toc.htm
Having said all that you may well find this runs faster:
    SELECT count(*), t.tel_no, t.prospect_id, a.account_no, a.account_title
    FROM   account a, tel_nos t
    WHERE  t.tel_type = 'S'
AND    sysdate BETWEEN t.start_date AND nvl(t.end_date, sysdate)
    AND    t.prospect_id = a.prospect_id
    GROUP  BY t.tel_no, t.prospect_id, a.account_no, a.account_title
    HAVING count(*) > 1
/I leave it to you to work out why (it's nothing to do with clearer layout).
    Cheers, APC

  • Tiger running way too hot

    Hello,
    Fan/Cooling Issue
Since upgrading from Panther to Tiger the cooling fan runs nearly continuously. It may rest for about a minute then it begins running again. The CPU speed is sent on 'Automatic'. If I set it to 'Reduced' it runs way to slow, which should be expected. However, with Panther I never had this problem: when set on 'Reduced' I rarely heard the fan. It appears that Tiger does not recognize 'Automatic' but only acknowledges 'Highest' and 'Reduced' CPU settings. This is needless wear and tear on my PB and am not happy about this at all.
    Folder Fragmented Names
Folder names longer than one line are also an issue. The second line is never clearly seen and when the folder is moved, part of the second line text is left behind. Never had this problem with Panther either.
For my purposes, Tiger is no improvement over Panther. If I could get my money back and return to Panther, I would.

    17 PowerBook, 1.33 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   2 GB Ram

    I'm back.
All of the Desktop icons are back. The 'Delocalizer' icon is now gone as well. That's a strange one because I trashed that file when I was finished using it yesterday.
This may help your diagnosis. When I installed Tiger, it failed to preserve my Admin name and password but came up with 'Administrator (root)' which did not look good at all. I called Applecare and he said that was a very bad omen and to re-install Tiger which I did. However, when the log-in screen appears, the strange 'Other' appears together with my name. The 'Other' has an blue icon with planets in it. I've never seen this before, so perhaps this is a new Tiger icon which should really belong to the Administrtor - me - rather that to 'Other'. All of this makes me uneasy. I just experienced an OS crash in March which Bee (and others) helped me through for which I am very grateful. However, it appears that this PB is still not completly recovered.
I am now burning a DVD and then, come what may. I would be much happier just to re-initialize my HD and start fresh again.
There has to be some corrupt files or conditions which are carried forward from upgrade to upgrade and continue to plague this computer.
I just tried to use Apple's Backup which I've used sucessfuly before, and it failed: 'Failed backup on May 19, 2006 at 9:55 AM'.
    What next?
