2nd CPU not recognized on Compaq Proliant 1500

I have x86/2.6 running on a dual CPU Compaq Proliant 1500, but it's not recognizing the 2nd CPU. (verified with mpstat)
Does anyone know how to convince x86 to initialize the 2nd CPU?
Thanks in advance!
David

Saw your post at http://forum.sun.com/profile.jsp?user=10948. I was having the exact same problem with the EXACT same hardware and I got the solution for you too. No charge! :-)
I contacted Compaq support and got a REAL sharpy on the phone. Compaq EISA config has an undocumented feature called 'Advanced'. To turn on the second CPU in Compaq ROM, follow these steps.
Start EISA config.
To use the 'Advanced' feature, merely hit 'CTRL-A' at the EISA config main menu.
Run configure system.
When it is done, go into Edit Details and scroll down until you see a line item called APIC.
It probably says DISABLED.
Highlight it and hit the ENTER key.
At that point, you'll see two options for 'ENABLE'.
Pick the one that says 'Full Table'. 'Full Table - Mapped' evidently don't mix with Solaris.
Save and exit, cycle power, and restart EISA config.
Save, exite, recycle power again.
At this next power up, the post message should say 'Processors Running at xxx' The next line should say Processor 2 initializing. When Solaris boots up, use the psrinfo command (no options) and it should show both processors up and running. psadm allows you to change the state of the other processor.
Let me know how this works. Mine is working like a champ!

  • Please help, 3rd gen works fine, 2nd gen not recognized

My wife & daughter got a 3rd gen ipod for xmas, they are working fine, but my sons 2nd gen ipod is not recognized by the computer or itunes. Nor will it charge, & now to top it off the battery appears to be dead so i cannot reset, restore, or anything. Before xmas it worked fine. Any suggestions for getting it working again.

Have you tried plugging it into a wall charger? If the battery truly is toast, then you need to replace it.

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd generation not recognized

Just aquired an ipod 2nd generation shuffle at a yard sale. Plugged it in and I get flashing lights (sorry, color blind and I can't tell if they are green or orange).
Shuffle is not recognized by computer with either disk mode or in iTunes. Downloaded the restore program and it says waiting on ipod.
I followed directions to reset shuffle to no avail. iPhones and iPads work fine. Tried different USB ports to no avail. Restarted computer, etc. The only think I haven't tried is a new charging/computer cable. I don't have a spare for the shuffle.
    Any suggestions?

Well, this has been a real puzzle and I appreciate your advice.  I tried everything you suggested, everything I could find in other posts, everything I could read on Apple support and troubleshooting pages and nothing made a difference.  I pretty much gave up and decided to leave it alone for a few days and I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden things changed when I tried again.  My Mac was on, the Ipod was off, I plugged it into the Mac (and the yellow light started blinking but no iPod showed up on the desktop or in iTunes), then shut the Mac down for a few minutes and left the iPod off and plugged in.  When I turned the Mac back on I noticed that the only items in the dock that were "on" or "active" were the Finder and iTunes so I double clicked on iTunes and watched in amazement as it welcomed me to my "new iPod."  I followed the on-screen directions and the iPod appeared on the desktop and in iTunes at long last and I was able to download two audiobooks successfully.   I don't get it but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.  I'm writing all this here in case some other poor soul is struggling with the same problem and has not yet tried all the steps described in these 9 posts.  Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen not recognized. I feel like I've tried everything. Help.

iPod Shuffle 2G is not recognized by my 2013 MacBook Air. It is not viewable anywhere. I am getting the blinking orange light.
iTunes is up to date & has been reinstalled.
I have restored the iPod according to the instructions I have seen in similar threads.
Tried plugging into a USB hub with its own power source.
Shuffle will charge in USB wall plug & play music.
I am using the original USB dock that it came with it.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    If you do
Apple Menu -> About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report
to run System Information (or System Profiler), does the "iPod" appear as a connected device under
    Hardware -> USB
Try doing the above with the shuffle connected directly AND using the power USB hub you mentioned.
Have you tried connecting something else to that USB port, to confirm it is working properly?  Preferably, it should be something similar, like a USB flash drive or port-powered external drive (data storage devices that get power from the USB port).
Two other related tests...  Create a new user account in System Preferences Users & Groups pane.  The new user account can be Standard or Admin.  Log out and log in to the new user account (do not use Fast User Switching).  In the new user account, run iTunes and connect the shuffle.
And the other test.  Start up in Safe Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
Connect the shuffle while started up in safe mode, to see if it appears anywhere.  These two test are to see if you have a process running when you start up normally, that interferes with the iPod being recognized.

  • IPod shuffle 2nd gen not recognized in Mac either Finder or iTunes (but is detected and works perfectly fine on Windows)... i tried using iPod Reset Utility, but no luck...

i've been working on this for the past few days, and still no luck... iPod Shuffle 2nd generation (i know it's old).... not detected in my home MacBook... but works perfectly fine on Windows....
i tried using iPod Reset Utility, soooo many times... and i only had twice the luck of having it formatted... but even though it is formatted, it still isn't recognized in iTunes or even in Finder.... other than the 2 times of having it formatted using iPod Reset Utility, i had seen all the reuslts, like: Error ressetting the ipod blah blah: iPod has been reset, keep plugged in, until reset is completed blah blah: iPod has been reset, unplug and replug your iPod blah blah... etc, i have seen all the possible effects of iPod Reset Utility, but still no luck getting it recognized in iTunes or Finder....
and then , i tried connecting it to a windows computer (but i didn't restore it from there, and just ejected it from windows iTunes), after ejecting it from windows, and then connecting it to Mac, it worked miraculuosly.... perfectly synced and able to put music and listen to them... ejected iPod... after a few minutes, i wanted to add some other music, but when i connected it again, Bam!!!! not working again... even after connecting to windows, it didn't work anymore... guess the magic trick has been doomed...
i badly need help... puhlease...  (^_^)

Hey, I hear ya and can sympathize. I have the same
issue. The difference is that my computer can "see"
    my ipod but it refuses to show up in itunes itself;
therefore, I can't put anything on the ipod (from the
computer) and vice-versa. Apple support is clueless.
This is very frustrating to say the least. Itunes
keeps telling me that my ipod is synced to a
"different" computer, which isn't true. It's the
same computer. The difference is that when I first
got the 'pod and used it with this computer (and
everything worked fine), I was running XP. I
installed Vista and after that, all the problems
started. If I ever get this resolved, believe me,
    I'll post something here.
I'm guessing that somehow, itunes "sees" what
computer it's hooked to by "looking" at something in
the OS. Change the OS and it "thinks" it's seeing a
    "different" computer.
    Try reformatting it.

  • IPod Touch (2nd gen) not recognized by computer and iTunes

When I connect my iPod Touch to my laptop, running Windows 7, neither the computer nor iTunes recognizes my iPod. Everything worked before with Vista.
When I plug the iPod into the computer the iPod does turn on put the battery doesn't charge and the iPod does not show on the Device Manager.
I have gone through and uninstalled and the reinstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application support. With no positive result. In fact I have done it twice.
In going back to make sure everything had installed I have noticed several things.
The Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes folders and Common Files are located in Program Files(x86) There are also copies of the Bonjour, iPod, Common Files, and iTunes folders are also located in the Program Files folder. Are these file locations correct?
Also, I have read somewhere that there should be usbaapl.cab, usbaapl.inf, usbaapl.sys files. I can't find any of these file. Are these files necessary?
    Any help will be appreciated.

greetings rkonrv and welcome to Apple discussions !
it seems your have seen this KG then.
maybe this tip by Beebopp (though a little off topic) will provide some pointers:
+This solution is very similar to one above but worked for me. Am using iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 32 bit version of Windows Vista where the iTouch is being seen by Windows but does not show in iTunes. In my case it was being identified by Windows as a camera. I tried un-installing and re-installing iTunes and all the other Apple apps with no luck. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to C:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Try this if you are having similiar issues.+
    +Here are the steps:+
    +1. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"+
+2. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account+
+3. Single left click on START+
+4. Single left click on RUN (You may need to change the start menu to 'classic view' to see RUN, you can change back after if you like)+
    +5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)+
+6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)+
+7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)+
+8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties+
+9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab+
+10. Single left click on " Update driver "+
+11. Select " Install from a list or specific location " or "Browse my computer" whichever shows on your version of Vista+
+12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search " if shown+
+13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box " Include this location in the search "+
+14. Single left click NEXT and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected, if no list appears then you should see the little animated circle thingie spinning. It's looking and working. Be patient.+
+15. Hopefully you will get a successful message.+
    +16. The correct drivers(s) are now installed.+
+17. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.+
    good luck !

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd gen not recognized by iTunes anymore

I have had this ipod shuffle 2nd gen for almost a year. I am unable to recharge it. iTunes does not see it anymore. What do I do?

  • Red herring - Maybe 2nd CPU not performing?

    G'day,
So I've been on a wild goose chase...
After installing OS X on my Maxtor 250GB hdd, it performed no better than the WD 1TB drives.
Now, the reason I was chasing this performance boost, was that when I purchased my G5, it bench tested 1500, but now it's only getting 1100. That's a big drop.
I thought perhaps it was the 2x128 RAM modules... When purchased, there was 2x512, and 2x128 installed, but the smaller modules weren't being recognised. So I pulled them out, but the bench test is still only getting 1100.
Now (obviously, really) I'm turning to the last "difference" from when I bought the machine to how it is set up today... the replacement CPU.
When I installed the CPU, I ran the thermal calibration, and the full array of tests on the ASD and AHT disks... but - is there any other kind of calibration required to get the CPU sync'd etc to the existing CPU? Or... anything?
Cheers and thanks for your help
    cosmic

    Hi cos-
New instals of the OS are what has received the 1100 scores...
I think that I asked you before, but because of a new install, mdworker and other Spotlight processes would be very busy in the background.
These are very CPU intensive and would sap CPU power.
If you have run the tests after the machine has had a couple of days to get its indexing hunger satisfied, then this shouldn't be an issue.
I would, however, have all drives placed in Privacy in Spotlight preferences prior to testing to be sure.
Should the load between processors always be fairly 50/50?
    It depends on the application.
OS X only will show an imbalanced usage.
Just running some Final Cut rendering, and both processors are showing at pretty much 99% capacity.
That is a very good indication of function, especially if no freezes or system crash occurs.

  • 2nd HDD not recognized in Win7 Disk Manager, Shows in Device Manager, BIOS, Win7 Repair CD

    Hello,
I am trying to add a newly purchased HDD to my laptop as the secondary HDD.  The primary is a 160 GB SSD.
Primary SSD: Intel 160 GB SSD model SSDSA2BW160G3H
Secondary HDD: WD 750 GB 7200 RPM SATA/300, Model WDBLHJ7500ANC-NRSN
Laptop: HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 Quad 17.3" laptop
Laptop Config: Intel i7-3720QM 2.6 GHz Quad Core, 8 GB RAM, nVidia GT650M, 160 GB SSD
    Laptop BIOS: F.24
    Laptop Date of Birth: 5/24/2012
    OS: Win 7 Prof x64
Shows up in BIOS (can run diagnostics OK).
Shows up in Win 7 Prof Device Manager.
Does NOT show up in Disk Manager.
Checked device drivers for Win7 Prof Device Manager HDD, have the latest.
Checked service manual, can't see anything that I missed.
Booted with Active@BootDisk (Win PE rescue disk), drive showed up as uninitialized.
Initialized drive, partitioned (one large), formatted NTFS.
Booted with Win 7 Repair Disk (Win PE), can see the drive in command prompt, able to write a text file to it OK.
Still won't show up in Win 7 Prof in Disk Manager.
Any ideas?  Maybe a firmware upgrade for the laptop?  Some kind of incompatibility with the HDD and SDD such as different dirve modes (don't believe that Win7 has issues with IDE versus AHCI devices)?
I had trouble adding a 2nd HDD to my dv7-6000 laptop; it finally just showed up months later. Is this common with HP laptops?
I am stumped and any help is appreciated.  I checked the Internets and didn't see anything other than HW issues. I need this to work for the new semester that started today.

    More testing:
WD Data Lifeguard (Western Digital's HDD diagnostics) also won't see the HDD after booting with Win 7 Prof off of the SSD.
Moved the HDD cable from the 2nd HDD to the primary header (SSD disconnected).  Was able to install another instance of Win7 on the 2nd HDD OK; this proves that the new WD HDD and the secondary cable are OK.  Moved the cable back to the 2nd header (still no SSD) and the computer booted off of the secondary HDD connected to the secondary header OK.
Added the SSD back to the primary header and booted into the instance of Win7 off of the SSD.  Disk Management can't see the 2nd HDD, WD Data Lifeguard can't see the 2nd HDD; however, Device Manager is able to see the 2nd HDD OK.
Ran Intel SSD toolbox on SSD; no issues.  Ran WD Align by Acronis on SSD (checks for advanced format alignment of 4K boundaries); it's already aligned to 4k boundaries.
Connected HDD to pri header, booted Win7 Ultimate on HDD.  Ran WD Data Lifeguard on HDD; it's fine.   Booted into WD Align by Acronis CD, ran WD align against HDD; it's already aligned to 4k boundaries.
Put HDD on pri header, SSD on secondary header and booted into Win7 Ultimate on HDD.  Able to see both drives in Dask Management.
Put SSD back onto primary header, HDD back onto 2nd header, booted into Win7 Prof on SSD.  Disk Management can't see the HDD again...
Updated laptop BIOS from F.24 to F.2D rev A (Install Shield Wizard confirms that it is for Win7 x64 as well as Win 8.1).  Didn't fix the issue...
Ran Intel Driver Update Utility.  I have the Intel RST (Rapid Store Technology) driver v 11.0.0.1032.  Did not state that I needed to upgrade this driver.  This is latest version on the HP website.
Everything works except having the SSD connected to the primary header, having the HDD connected to the secondary header, booting into Win7 Prof on the SSD and trying to see the HDD in Disk Management.  Unfortunately, this is the configuration that I need to work.
Any thoughts on what is causing this?  Hardware issue with HP Laptop?  Power supply issue?  Bad HDD controller?  Bad install of Win7 Prof on SSD (appears to run fine otherwise).
