2nd Gen iPod center button not working
I have tried just about everything to get the center button to work. It has stopped on me once before, but it was a long time ago and I can't remember what I did to fix it.
Every other button works just not the center button. I have tried restoring it, resetting it, and toggling the hold button. But to no avail it will not work.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
CAUTION
Before you restore/update the iPod make sure that your iTunes library has the version of apps that are presently installed on your iPod. Many apps have been update and the update apps are not compatible with the 2G iPod. I would do that by deleting the apps from your iTunes library and then transfer them to your iTunes library. See:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
In iTunes 11 use Control+B to show the Menu bar then go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.

My 4th gen ipod touch will not work in a philips or Sony docking station
I bought a philips(DC320) clock radio and my ipod touch would not work in it. Thinking it was a problem with the connector on the radio I returned it and bought a Sony ICF-CS15ip because the store was out of the philips radio. When I plugged my 4th gen ipod touch into that again my Ipod touch would not play through the radio but the radio would recognize and charge the ipod. I tried my daughter's 2nd gen ipod touch in the Sony and it worked great. So It looks like there is a problem with the my ipod. Sony claims that the ICF-CS15ip is compatible with the 4th gen ipod touch and I have the latest IOS 5.1.1 on my ipod. Any suggestions before I go to the Apple store? The Ipod is only 6 months old.
You can try the standard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPOd.
That has worked for some users.
However, sometimes an iOS update will break compatibility. In that case yo have to wait for either Apple or the dock manufacturer to issue a firmware update. -
2nd Gen iPod shuffle is not recognized by iTunes or computer
I read the other posts about people's 2nd Gen Ipod shuffles not being rcognized by iTunes or their computer, but none of them seemed to fit.
I have had my iPod shuffle for less than a week. Last time I had my iPod connected to iTunes in the "Settings" section I clicked "Do not automatically open iTunes and synch with iPod" or something along those lines. I assumed this meant iTunes wouldn't always open when I plugged it in to charge it.
However, now when I plug it into my computer, iTunes does not recognize it and I get a message from my computer that there is a "USB Device Not Recognized" and the error message reads: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." It shows up as an "Unrecognized Device". I have tried plugging it into a different USB port, and I have also downloaded the "Ipod Reset Utility" to try to reset it to it's factory settings, in case that would allow it to synch up with iTunes again. This does not work. Does anyone know why this is happening, or how I can get iTunes to recognize my iPod again? Thank you!Brand new ipod shuffle (2nd gen). When I plug it into the USB port, a "Disk Insertion" prompt warning appears with the message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." The two options in the prompt window are 'Eject' or 'Ignore.'
Having read other message boards, I decided to plug it into a PC computer and re-formatted it with FAT 32 filing system, but the exact same thing still happens. My MacBook give me the same message when I plug the shuffle to the computer. iTunes does not recognize it that anything is plugged in either.
Any suggestions? -
Center Button Not Working Correctly
I just bought a 30gb Ipod today and when I operate the wheel and center button, about half of the time the center button doesnt work until I touch the wheel.
Example. I wheel down to "music" and click center and it goes to the next screen, then wheel down to "album" and nothing happens until I touch the wheel again. This happens maybe half the time. Am I doing something wrong? Should I return it? It is a small problem, but an annoying one, and for a brand new $250 device, I want it to be perfect.Hi Nick,
This could be either a more software-oriented problem with your iPod, or hardware.
Let's start out by resetting your iPod. To reset an iPod:
First, toggle your iPod's "Hold" switch back and forth a couple of times. (be sure to leave it on the white side of the switch, which is teh off position)
Then, press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for 5-10 seconds.
You might need to attempt at this several times. For more effect, try connecting your iPod to a power source while you try with the resetting.
Also, you could try restoring your iPod to factory settings. For instructions on how to restore an iPod, check out this Knowledge Base article:

Hi
I have an iPod touch 4th generation and the home button isn't working. It's not the normal issue where it's stuck, or it won't function because you can't press it. The home button on my iPod is visible, as in the black button has been removed and I can see the tiny circular home button, (if you've ever seen the inside the iPod). When I press the tiny circular button, it doesn't work. Circuitry issues, maybe? If anyone could help, I'd be so grateful.

IPod Center Button Not Responding
Hello,
I have a relatively new 80GB iPod that I bought on 8/15/07. Over the past couple of days, I notice that it does not respond well when I press the center button to get it out of sleep mode. I have to press the button over and over again before it finally wakes up. Each day, I find I'm having to press it more times.
Does anyone know what this means?but perhaps its the best, maybe you should send your iPod in for a warranty repair, you have the right you know?, those ***** can't tell you otherwise, but i understand you use it for your work, hey, by the way, how can i do that?, i could use the ipod as a recorder too
If you choose not to send it in, you could make worse, imagine, youre pressing the button and suddenly pops out, that's not a warranty covered defect, in fact, they wont take it anymore because they'll think you dropped the iPod or something
Personally, i would take that risk
I Have my own Early 5th gen 30 GB iPod, and indeed it has failed from time to time, but i found out that sometimes Resets and things like that actually are needed for a maintenance on a regular basis, so i do not blame apple for it, ENTIRELY, i live in Venezuela, its like 4500 miles off the U.S, believe me, if my iPod failed like that i would have more trouble than you do hahahahahahaha, no offense... -
HT201322 iPod home button not working
Hi my iPod touch 4 GEN home button is not working, I have tried everything it said to fix it like hold the top button to peer it off but then hold the home button for 10-15 sec until it goes back to the home screen which worked but right after that, when I go to a app, the home button will instantly stop working. What should I do? Get a the new iPod 5 or any ways to fix it.
I'd take it back - especially if you bought it recently. Most of the time they're REALLY NICE about taking care of the products.
If they find that it's because of misuse though, you're on your own -
3rg gen ipod dock connector not working with new imac on leopard 10.5.1
Recently found that my 3rd gen ipod is not working properly when i connect it using its dock. itunes just freezes and comes out with some "disk insertion error". however, when i don't use the dock and connect the ipod to the imac directly using its own firewire cable, everything is ok and working properly.
it seems to be the ipod dock that is the problem. but am wondering why wouldn't it work? any ideas? I'd still like to be able to use the ipod dock...
thanks.ipodaid.page.tl go there, he got my iPod fixed.

My 4th gen iPod Touch does not work with Ford sync since updating OS
When I updated my iPod to the new os, it does not work with my ford sync system anymore. how do I fix this?
Have lots of issues with Fords MySync and here's some info that might help....
Using ford sync interface, goto the phone section, then settings, and look if your iPhones name is listed, if so select the phone name thru sync interface and remove/delete it from the sync list, then go thru the Bluetooth pairing process again.
If that doesn't work, do the same on the iPhone, select ford sync entry in Bluetooth and remove sync or forget this device on the iPhone and then go thru Bluetooth pairing again.
If that doesn't work Power off iphone ( not sleep) hold power button till you see red slider to power off. Then restart iphone, try pairing up again.
If that doesn't work go back to MySync and goto phone settings and use the up-down slider till you see sync master reset. Confirm then go thru BT pairing again.
If that doesn't work there is a fuse for the my sync system. Fuse box is usually behind kick panel of front passenger seat side for the Mustang #3, its behind a paper black cover. Remove fuse for 5-30 secs then replace.
Lastly, make sure your MySync Firmware is the latest vers. Mines 4.0.2 goto fords MySync support page to check
http://www.ford.com/syncmyride/
or call 1-800-392-3673 Opt 3
A google search might help for your model and year if not a newer mustang and you couldn't get to ford.

Ipod Nano Buttons not working??
I have an Ipod nano 1st generation atleast thats what my Brother says.
But any way, the Buttons stopped working after I went on a camping trip about 2 weeks ago. my friend was using it and when I tried to turn it on when I got home, it didn't work.
Any Ideas on what I should do??This happened to me too, don't worry, it can be fixed. Hold down the center button and the menu button until you see the apple logo, then you can let go, it should unfreeze your ipod and make the buttons work again.
Dell Windows XP -
I sent my ipod to apple to get the battery replaced.
On receiving the ipod back i realised the hold button did not work and that the ipod was continuosly crashing when on the move and downloading songs from i tunes.
I contacted the support team thinking i could send it back under the 90 day gurantee (because it was apple who sent me the new ipod back), but because i purchased it 2004 they said I had to purchase some apple protection at £39.99, is this true?
Even though it was apple who sent me a brand new ipod back!!Have you tried resetting or restoring the iPod?

I have tried to restart the device and I have restored the device but that has not solved the problem. The iPod is not very old, has not been dropped and is in a case. Please help!
If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
