2nd Gen iPod not recognized by iTunes

Up until yesterday, when I plug my iPod in to its USB plug on the PC, iTunes would open and I can see my iPod - all of a sudden, when I plug it into the USB, it starts charging (like it should), but iTunes doesn't open and I if I open it manually, it doesn't see that my iPod is plugged in - anyone know what the deal is???

I am having the same problem and I can't get any help from IPOD support!!! Please let me know if you find out anything

  • 4th gen iPod not recognized by iTunes

After installing the new iTunes 7 on my laptop, my 4th gen iPod is no longer coming up on the iTunes screen when I connect it. I tried everything suggested in the FAQ - reset it, reinstalled iTunes, disabled antivirus, etc. The only thing I didn't do was restore it because I can't when it isn't recognized. When I reinstalled off my original CD, the iPod was being recognized so it's definitely not the iPod or the USB port. Once I updated to iTunes 7, it stops working. Can anybody help?

Hey, yeah, I am having the same problem, but when I try to download an older version of iTunes, it won't let me because I still have iTunes 7.0, even though I have put it in the trash and emptied the trash, how did you get rid of it?

  • 2nd gen ipod not recognized in windows xp or itunes

I have been working on this for 2 weeks. I have loaded the latest usb drivers/chipsets. Have followed every suggestion on apple website. Obviously lots of people have this problem. When my shuffle is plugged in the computer sees it as new hardware and trys to load a driver which of course there is not one. The hardware "fails to install" and windows can't see it. itunes diagnostics sees all the controllers but no ipod connected. I am about to return the shuffle as I cannot use it. There is nothing wrong with my usb ports my ipod nano works just fine as do all my other devices (camera, printers, mouse, etc.)
    Has anyone solved this?

there is no drive letter assigned. ALL that the computer does is when the ipod is plugged in it says "new hardware found" and the word ipod appears in the system tray. Then immediately the Found new harware Wizard starts up. it says, "This wizard helps you install software for: ipod. So I am interpreting that the usb port is working and the driver for the port is reading the device. However, since there is no disk or software to install, eventuall a Found new hardware bubble reappears saying you a problem was encountered and the hardware was not properly installed. I don't get any farther than that. The device is NEVER listed in My Computer. As indicated before, there is an entry in device manager showing the ipod under other devices with the yellow exclamation point and the detail showing a Code 1 - no driver.

  • 5th gen ipod not recognized by itunes

the ipod is however viewable in explorer (im using windows) and itunes recognized it when i plugged it in, until i downloaded itunes 7. any help is greatly appreceated

Try restarting your computer with your ipod plugged in. You might also try using a different USB port. If all else fails downgrade to itunes 6 here http://www.apple.com/support/

  • 2nd gen shuffle not recognized by iTunes or reset utility. Strange blinking

Shuffle was working fine. My cat chewed the wire on the dock in half. So I ran the battery down and ordered another dock (well, not actually a doc, but a retractable aftermarket USB connector). Finally got the connector. Before using, I tried to turn on ipod. No light whatsoever, not even red. Plugged it in. Would blink red a couple times, then green a couple times, and then the blinking would stop. iTunes didn't recognize it. Neither did the reset utility. So friggin annoying. What should I do now.

Put it on the dock connector, connect it to your computer, and charge it for at least 30 minutes then see if your computer can see it.

  • Ipod shuffle (2nd gen.) not recognized by my powerbook (g4)

My new iPod shuffle (2nd gen.) not recognized by my powerbook (g4). Get error message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". It works just fine with my iMac (g4). If iTunes is open the shuffle is just not recognized. Have tried my shuffle on a friend's PowerBook (Intel based) and it works fine. His new shuffle behaves exactly like mine on my powerbook. All other uses with USB ports appear fine - flash drives etc. I did initialize a new flash drive with 128 bit encryption before the 1st attempt to initialize my new shuffle.
    Help! Thanks

Does it show in Apple System Profiler's USB tree? Have you tried connecting it (through its dock) to another computer?

  • Ipod nano 1st gen is not recognized in itunes 10

I updated my computer system to leopard 10.5.8 as well as the latest itunes 10. I bought a new ipod nano 6th gen, and it syncs and works fine. The problem I have is my old Ipod. It is detected by my power mac on the desktop only the icon it has is a folder, and when I open it is in blank. I open Itunes 10 and it doesn't appear. And I tried to follow the instructions on apple support, tried all ports, tried reseting the ipod, and it is still not showing up on itunes. Can someone help me with this please?
Also, a white line showed up on the screen, does that mean the screen is broken? I can still see everything going on normally on the ipod but not where the line comes up (middle of the screen).

  • 1st Gen iTouch not recognized by iTunes on Laptop

I have a 1st Gen iTouch that I cannot seem to get iTunes to recognize.
About a week ago I re-named it in iTunes, cleaned it up, and performed a sync.
Used it until the battery was low, and re-charged using my wall charger. Now, when I connect to the laptop, is is not recognized at all...
I have tried the following to no avail:
    Re-install iTunes
    Stop/Start the Apple Mobile Device
    Try a different USB cable
Re-boot the laptop with USB devices not plugged in
Force the iTouch into recovery mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808)
Try to connect using a different laptop
It still charges when connected to my wall charger. I have a 2nd gen iTouch that connects just fine (charges & connects to iTunes). I don't what the problem could be?! This iTouch is 1.5 years old and work great apart from this issue. Can anyone help?
