2nd Gen iPod Touch Wi-Fi not working since upgrading to new software

Since I updated to the newest software I haven't been able to connect to the internet. When I go to settings and go to Wifi, the network shows up and I am able to click on it and enter my password. However, despite saying that I am connected, the bars to not show up to say it has a signal and the internet doesn't work. The laptop and the other desktop do not seem to have any problems connecting to the internet and I have tried turning the wifi on my iPod on and off, turning airplane mode on and off, forgetting the network and relogging into it and renewing the lease. Any ideas?

Tap Settings > WiFi > your network name (or at least the one with the check mark). Tap the little blue > next to the name. Look at Device IP - if it starts with 169.x then your router has not issued you an IP address
You also should have "Renew Lease" and "Forget this Network" buttons. Try pressing Renew Lease to see if you then get a valid response from your router.
If this doesn't work you can try these things:
1. Reboot your router (just unplug the power cord for a minute, then plug back in). If this doesn't fix it, try disabling security to rule that out.
2. Reset the touch network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
3. When the touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.

Hope this helps.

  • 2nd gen iPod touch - Factory restore not working

I'm trying to factory restore my 2nd gen ipod touch.  I figured I could simply choose the factory reset in the setting and it would do it's thing.  Now it says it needs to connect to iTunes in order to complete the process.  However, when I plug my phone into my (windows) PC, iTunes doesn't recognize it.  It makes the normal sounds and starts charging, so I know the PC recognizes that it's connected, but iTunes will not.  now, I can't do anything on the ipod - it just sits there like a brick,   help!

  • Ipod touch home button not working after upgrade

    Hi,
The home button on my 1st generation ipod touch stopped working after upgrading the software a couple of weeks ago. Has anyone else come across this issue? Is it possible to downgrade the software? I have tried restoring the ipod with no luck.
    Thanks

    HI there,
thanks for the reply. Tried both of what you suggested, also tried the home button thing only working while plugged in with two computers and two different leads which is why I suspect is an operating system thing.
I may try downgrading the operating system next, just have to find a copy of an old one somewhere.
    Cheers,
    Martin

  • Touch ID does not work propery with the new software properly

After a few uses Touch ID does not accept the touch finger despite being the same. This has been observed by me only after installation of the latest software.
    IPhone 6 IOS 8.1.1

    Hi there Solnan,
If you have as yet been unable to enroll any fingers with Touch ID, I would use the troubleshooting information in the following article to help you resolve the issue here, named:
Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad
    Get help with Touch ID
Make sure that you're using the latest version of iOS.
Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.*
Cover the Home button completely. Don't tap too quickly, don't press down hard, and don't move your finger while Touch ID is scanning. Make sure that your finger touches the metal ring around the Home button.
If you're using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn't cover the Home button or the surrounding ring. If it does, remove the case or screen protector and try again.
Tap Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on. Also make sure that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints.
    Try enrolling a different finger.
If you can't enroll any of your fingers, take your device to an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact AppleCare for help.
    * Moisture, lotions, sweat, oils, cuts, or dry skin might affect fingerprint recognition. Certain activities can also temporarily affect fingerprint recognition, including exercising, showering, swimming, cooking, or other conditions or changes that affect your fingerprint.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch - 3rd party apps work for 1 day, next day they crash

Hello I have a brand new 16gb Touch with 2.1.1 software.
My problem is any application from the app store will work fine for 1 day and then the next day when I attempt to open the program it just loads for a second and then crashes back to the home screen. The only thing that works is uninstalling and reinstalling the apps which gets very annoying. It does this everyday though. They will perfectly all day long until I go to bed. Once I wake up and check they just crash. They won't work with the iPod plugged into the PC or with it not and powercycling doesn't make a difference. Only reinstalling them seems to work then the next day they are toast again. Any ideas? Is this thing bad and needs to go back?

I had this problem - did a Restore (having backed up) and found my Apps (all of which had stopped working) NOT on the IPT, but in the Apps folder in iTunes (not sure I'd ever noticed them there before). Couldn't get them on the IPT by Synching etc. THEN - tried open an App from the iTunes window and got the "Computer not authorised to play ...etc" Re submitting the authorisation request just told me I was already authorised, but then did Sync and Apps all ok back on IPT
now, will they stay working for more than a few days????

  • 2nd gen ipod touch wont turn off?!?!?!

I have a 2nd gen ipod touch that will not turn off even when plugged in. Its fully charged and ive restored it a couple times.  I dont know what to do with it. Help?

Have you tried resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • 2nd gen ipod touch sleep/wake button will not work

Like the title says, the sleep/wake button (top button) doesn't work on my 2nd gen ipod touch. In short, I can't put it into sleep mode (I have to wait the one minute), turn it off to save the battery, take screenshots, or even reset it (without iTunes, anyways).
I don't have any guesses on why it's not working. It just stopped working one day. I don't see water damage (via the water damage detector in the earbud jack), and I don't think I dropped it in a way that would harm it (unless dropping it on carpet counts).
I should also mention that randomly, one day after school, I was messing with it, and the button worked. I think the battery had died, and I managed to turn it on then. It worked for a few hours (I charged the battery), and then it went back to not working.
The warranty's up (and I'm broke), so I can't repair it. I also want to point out that the problem started not long after the warranty expired. What, at this point, is my best option? Should I just save up for the newest model? Or would it be cheaper and more efficient to save up just enough for a repair? Any other options I should consider?
    Thanks in advance.

As I said, you can move on to Restore. Backup everything then Restore as New. Restoring from backup would just copy whatever software issue you may have. But it sure looks more and more like a hardware problem. Take a close look at the button to see if perhaps some dirt particles are stuck there.
You can also make an appointment with a Gnius at the nearest Apple store to have it diagnosed. Apple does not fix iPods, they just replace them with refurbished units, so it won't be cheap. Prices are here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
You can Google for third part repair hops or do-it-yoursel kits.
    Good luck.

  • 2nd gen iPod touch only displays start-up apple icon, and is not recognized by iTunes - what to do?

2nd gen iPod touch only displays start-up apple icon, and is not recognized by iTunes - what to do?

Thanks, but I've checked those articles out already. I drained the battery and finally got the needs charge (battery w/red line + arrow pointing to a charging bolt), I plugged the USB into the laptop and held down the start key +home key until I saw the apple logo. However, it still was not recognized by itunes. It's been plugged in for over an hour now and the screen is cycling apple logo/low battery (battery w/red line)/and black screen.

  • 2nd gen iPod touch - do I need to use Google calendar now?

I've updated my Mac to OSX 10.7.2 but I've not upgraded to iCloud, because I have a 2nd gen iPod touch.
As I've read Apple has not including calendars support for these, do I need to use Google calendar now?
I had Mac's for 15 years and even subscribed to MobileMe
If they're dumping my 2 year old bit of kit it's a poor show, I will keep it going as it still does a job for me, it's a shame I'll may have to move away from apple and I guess iTunes too.

That I know I've read that but unless someone comes up with a work around, before then, I'll move to google or yahoo calendars.
I'm Mac through and through, a total fan but like alot of people these day I'm having to cut back, yes it's nice I'm not paying the mobileme sub anymore but I can't justify buying a new ipod or stretching to an iphone.
Maybe I having to grow away from Apple.

  • How to sync contacts to 2nd gen iPod touch?

I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch, and have just moved from MobileMe to iCloud on all of my other devices which are supported.  On the iPod Touch I now should be able to sync contacts and calendars only via iTunes, since it will not work with iCloud.  All is well with calendar syncing.  However, even though I have the appropriate boxes checked in iTunes to sync contacts, I get "no contacts" on the Touch.  What might I be doing wrong?  Thanks!

Thanks, I had seen that support article.  It states that although the Touch will not sync with iCloud, both calendar and contact data will continue to reside locally on the device.  In my case this is true, and can sync locally with iTunes, for iCal, but not for contacts.

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch stuck in restore mode

My Friend recently gave me his 2nd gen ipod touch that he no longer uses as a gift, i decided to restore it so i could put my music on it and remove all the apps that were on there because i wanted more space for music, while restoring i came across a problem, an error message popped up and said, "The iPod "iPod" cannot be restored, an unknown error occured (2003)." i have the latest version of itunes installed and ive tried everything mentioned in the following article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307219, this ipod was fully functiong before i attempted to restore it and now its stuck in restore mode and will not work at all, i do not feel like paying to talk to an apple representitive to help me with a problem that shouldn't be happening in the first place so if someone could help me here that would be greatly appreciated.

Well i had kinda the same problem. I pressed the wake/sleep button and the home button for 10 seconds. Then it shuts down. You connect it to iTunes and says this iPod was in restore mode, and continues or starts again. Hope can help!
