2nd generation ipod touch and ibooks

Last year I downloaded the Nook app and was able to purchase and read books on my ipod.  I recently purchased an ebook and iTunes said that I needed to download ibook.  I have not been able to find an ios app that will allow me to download ibooks.  Can I circumvent this and just use the Nook app that worked so beautifully just last year?  Update says that I have the most current ios app.

I accidentaly deleted iBooks on my itouch 2G a few months ago and lost a lot of books in that way.
I got it back by downlaoding the latest version of iTunes, there you have a list of previosuly downlaod apps on your itouch. Sync your itouch first. When that is done, go to the list again, there is an option to install the app(in this case iBooks)and it downlaoded within 20 seconds!
I got all my books back and I am very happy
I hope this works for you too!

I have a 2nd generation iPod touch in excellent condition. Can I trade in and use toward purchase of 4th generation?

    No.
Apple recycles old devices.  They will give you a 10% discount on a new ipod for bringing in an old one.

  • I have a 2nd generation ipod touch and it wont let me download apps onto it is thir anything i can do

When i am trying to download it says that i dont have the upto date software but when i click on the update button is says i am upto date ?
Does anyone know if this can be fixed or if it is due to the model being old

If you are running iOS 3.1.3, it is very likely you have a 1st generation iPod touch. That is the highest iOS version it can handle.
Regardless, you can find plenty of apps in the iTunes store which run on older devices. Here is my favorite solution for filtering compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
And here are some things other people have suggested:
    Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.

  • I have the 2nd generation ipod touch and my screen went black and wont do anything what could be wrong?

i realy want it to be fixed its my life

    Have you try to:
    > Charge your iPod?
    > Plug it to your computer?
    > Hold the Power button to turn on?
If so and none work, you may need to replace your battery.
    iPod Owners
Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your coverage to two years from the date of your iPod purchase with the AppleCare Protection Pan for iPod. During the plan’s coverage period, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $49 (iPod shuffle), $59 (iPod nano and classic), $79 (iPod touch) plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner.

NOTE: If you do get the battery replaced yourself, becareful when removing the screen because there is a special cable connecting to the iPod itself and the screen and its very fragile. If that break, then you also need to replace the screen as well.

  • I have a 2nd generation iPod touch and it shows to be connected to WiFi but will not access the internet, please tell me what i can do, because i use this device for work and it make things difficult that it will not work now. Please help, thank you!

I really need help, my ipod shows to connect to the WiFi but then it will not let me use the interent it says no connection but according to my screen i have WiFi connection, i am very confused an i would really appriciate it if someone could help me sort out this problem so i can start using my iPod for work again.

Even though the iPod shows as been connected, it might not have actually received a valid IP address via DHCP from your Wi-Fi access point or router.  Head to Settings -> Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected. If 169.xxx.xxx.xxx is listed for an IP Address, then your iPod did not receive a valid IP address.  To correct this you can reboot your router by unplugging it from power for about 30 seconds.
It wouldn't hurt to also reset your iPod.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • I have a 2nd generation ipod touch and it wont update to version 4.2 why

My iPod will say backin up in a little box and then it just stops backing up and freezes? why?

See if moving the exsting backup to a safe location will allow a successfull backup since iTunes will create an entire new update file rather than modifying the existing one.  The file is located here:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

  • I have 2nd generation iPod Touch and i was wondering if i could go to the apple store and switch it for the iPod Touch 4th generation?

Is there like a charge or something?

You can't do that at Apple. Apple, however, offers a recycling service, which might give you some $$$ back.

  • Ibooks for 2nd generation ipod touch

I have my daughter's old 2nd generation ipod touch and would like to use it for books and music only.  The only problem is I can't get ibooks to download to it.  Any suggestions?

Well you cant download books because the ibook app needs ios 5 and the 2g doesnt support later version of ios. The latest is 4.2.1.
But you can download and hear music on there.

  • Second generation ipod touch and problems with headphone jack.

    Hello!
I have a second generation ipod touch that is experiencing headphone jack problems.  Everytime that I plug any sort of headphones in all it does is make weird noises and only let me hear background parts of the music.  I have even tried replacing the headphones that i was using and it still does the same thing.  The only way to hear all of the song is to push the headphones to the left and hold it there otherwise nothing works.  I even talked to some of my friends that have the 2nd generation ipod touch and they have the same problem.  Is there an issue with the 2nd generation ipod that people are not informed about?

    No.
My 2G, passed along to my brother now, is just fine after nearly 3 years of daily use and it's share of hard knocks.
    I didn't just "get lucky" either .
A search of this forum will show that what you've described does happen but it's not common.
You need a 3rd party , like iPod Doctor, to tell you and your friends what happened and how to avoid it in the future.
I doubt it will make sense to repair a 2G iPod since it can no longer be updated but ask anyway.

  • Does Apple plan to discontinue support/update for 2nd Generation iPod touch as latest iOS release for it is 4.2.1?

I have 2nd Generation iPod touch and latest iOS release for it is 4.2.1. Most of the Apps on iTunes now require iOS 4.3 at minimum. Isn't it outrageous that Apple is not supporting such iOS update for older iPod? Is there plan to discontinue such support?

I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch too and I currently have 24 Apps that I cannot update. Unlike you however, I hold the App developers responsible for the fact that they (the App developers) are not supporting iOS 4.2.1.
It is the App devloper who decides to modify their App so that it then requires a particular version of the iOS. Since a developer can have a free and a paid version of an App, it begs the question why don't they have the older and newer versions.
I now check the requirements for an App before I click on update. If it still only requires iOS 4.2.1, then I can update. If it requires a higher iOS, the I simply don't update it. One good thing is that by now, most of the older Apps are quite stable and bug free, so the update is usually to give something extra. Since I cannot update the App, I simply forgo the "extras".

  • I need a list of games I can play on 2nd Generation Ipod touch

I just got a hand me down 2nd Generation Ipod Touch and so far am having no luck with games that will work on it... please help

To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
