2nd Generation iPod Touch Closing out of apps randomly

Sometimes my 2nd generation iPod Touch will close out of apps randomly. I'll be using an app and it will randomly close. How can I fix this, because I've already reset it to factory settings and not saving the memory while restoring it?

When restoring to factory settings/new iPod fails to resolve a problem that indicates a hardware problem. An appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • WiFi on 2nd generation iPod Touch times out

The WiFi for my 2nd generation iPod Touch is connected, but the internet is either excruciatingly slow, or times out every time I try to use it. I have a full signal and I've tried resetting the network settings as well as the iPod setting, but neither has made a difference. How do I fix this without spending money?

I took it into the Apple store and was told it could be a hardware problem, and (of course) I'm out of warranty, so tough cookies. How does something like this happen? I haven't dropped it or spilled anything on it. All I've done is listen to music, download apps, play games and surf the internet -- why am I told "tough luck," because it decided to stop working after two years of gentle usage? Ugh. Hope this serves as a warning to others: Apple products are not really worth the pricetag if they give out after 2 years, so be weary.

  • 2nd Generation Ipod Touch Sync issue with Apps.

I have a 2nd generation Ipod touch and Itunes says that I have 6 apps that need to be updated. But when I go to the Itunes app area and try to update it says there is not updates. How do I determine which apps are causing the issue? What can I do to reset the number? Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks!  Dave

My guess is that those Apps require iOS 4.3 or later, which a 2nd generation Touch cannot install.
So the notification in iTunes (programme on your computer) will say there are updates to the Apps, because there are. However, since your iPod cannot use them, if you look at the App Store App on your iPod, those Apps won't be (shouldn't be) listed. Occasionally, I think they do get added to the notification number showing in the Apps Store icon on the iPod. I currently have two Apps like that.
    Important:
What you should not do must not do is update the Apps in your iTunes Library (on the computer). If you do, then your next Sync of the iPod Touch to your iTunes Library will remove the App from your iPod and you will lose the App.
My advice is that you ignore the notification number in your Apps Store App icon. It is no longer accurate or even meaningful. Instead, go to the Apps section of your iTunes Library and click on the X updates Available message. That will take you to the Store and list the updateable Apps. Unfortunately, you will need to check each one individually for it's Requirements. If it now requires iOS 4.3 or later - or an iPod Touch 3rd generation running iOS 4.2.1, do not download it. I think that now, every update will require iOS 4.3 or iOS 5, so there will probably be no Apps that you can update. If you do find one, you can update just that individual one by selecting Update as shown below.
I'm in the same boat as you:
Unfortunately, far too many people simply rant on about this, so that it's impossible to get together and lobby Apple to modify this so that those of us with older iPods can continue to use older versions of the Apps. They (Apple) appear to have forgotten that if an existing customer is not in a position to replace their aging iPod with the latest one, then that customer may no longer be able to use an App - thus losing the App's designer his/her customers.
I can see that their thinking is obviously; "the customer will buy a newer iPod because they want to have the latest iPod/they want to continue to use their Apps".
Hhhmmm! Not in the real world!

2nd generation ipod touch is pretty much no good anymore?  It is not able to upgrade to iOS5.1 and so will not work with many Apps in the iTunes store?  Is there a way to find out if the App will work before you download?

Look to the app developer to provide that information when browsing the iTunes Store.
The iPod Touch still works, so what's your problem with it? It still works with older apps, it still does what it's intended to do.
If you aren't happy then sell it and buy a new one.

  • 4th generation app on a 2nd generation ipod touch

I recently purchased the Pages app for my 2nd generation ipod touch thinking it would be fine because it has the 4.2.1 software version on it.  Unfortunately I keep getting an error message that says I need a newer version, OS 4.2.8 or later.  When I check for updates, it says that I have the latest version.  What should I do?

It sounds like you have a 2G iPod Touch, which can only go as high as iOS 4.2.1, meaning you are likely out of luck on this one. Use this article to help you verify what generation your iPod Touch is.

  • Messaging app that works with 2nd generation ipod touch

I recently downloaded imessenger to my 2nd generation ipod touch but it was hours later and with the help of this forum, that I discovered it is not possible to use with my iOS.  Does anyone know of a texting app that I can use?

You neglected to mention that the Numark iM1 is a piece of hardware (a physical box) that plugs into an iPod.
Checking on the Numark website, I suspect they haven't bothered to update their "iPod compatibility" page, since there's no specific reason (as far as I'm aware) why an App that worked with a 2nd gen Touch shouldn't work with a 4th gen model. Is that page where you looked and were then prompted to ask your question?
You might have more success in finding an answer to your question by contatcing the manufacturer (Numark) via their website or checking with a retailer who stocks the iM1. Numark appear to welcome email contact about their products.

    Error -1
Attempt to restore your iOS device two more times. If the issue is still unresolved, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Apps on 2nd generation iPod Touch crashing

The apps on my 2nd generation iPod Touch are increasingly slowing down and/or crashing.  The local Apple store rep said a) apps updated for 4th generation iPods overtax my 2nd generation hardware and therefore b) I must buy a new iPod.  Is anyone experiencing this problem?  Does Apple really expect me to buy new hardware every time its software upgrades automatically render my hardware obsolete?

Did you already try to reset your ipod by holding your sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data doing this, but it can cure some glitches.
Usually apps not meant for your iOS version can't be installed on your device. I tried this on my ipod, you can select the apps for a higher iOS, but they won't install.
If resetting does not help, set it up "as new device" without using the latest backup, in case you would be reinstalling damaged files. How to set up your iPhone or iPod touch as a new device

  • HT4059 I have a 2nd generation ipod touch that I am trying to download ibooks onto.  It is version 4.2.1.  The app says it requires 5.0.   Is there an older version I can put on the ipod so I can read books?  And same with the kindle app.

How can I get the ibooks onto a 2nd generation ipod touch since it requires 5.0 and the version on the ipod is only 4.2.1?   Surely, I should be able to read books on the 2nd generation ipod, right?

    "Really?  "
    Yes.
"Is there any other way to access books on the ipod 2nd generation? "
    No ibooks.
You can try a kindle reader.
