2nd generation ipod touch won't connect with iTunes store through macbook
Hello all,
So I decided I wanted to use my 2nd generation iPod touch for the first time in a long while so I tried to use it and it was just a slug. I figured I didn't care about any of the data on it so I went to settings and pushed "erase all data and settings." It did its thing then rebooted to tell me to connect to iTunes. I did, and iTunes just says "iTunes could not complete your iTunes store request. The network connection was lost." I'm 99% certain this is not an issue with my firewall as I can connect to the store myself and my firewall allows iTunes through. iTunes just does nothing with the iPod. It sees that it is there and will let me eject it and that's it. Is Apple just done supporting the earlier iPods? Any solutions are greatly appreciated!!
Yeah this doesn't help. I resolved the keychain issue, didn't help. I know those ports aren't blocked, and the device can't be troubleshot because the only thing it will do is tell me to plug it into itunes.

As said in the question, my ipod touch will not connect to the newest version of itunes. When I plug it in, my compter recognizes that a device has been connected, yet it will not show up in itunes. I didn't have this problem until I just updated to the new itunes. Someone help please!

I have the same problem. I don't know when it happened (I seldom connect to the App Store from the iPod), but it used to work before. I am connecting using a Wi-Fi network.
The Internet connection works perfectly well in Safari and other apps, but when I try to open the iTunes Store app, or when trying to browse the App Store, I get the error message:
"Cannot connect to iTunes Store"

Brand new iPod touch won't connect with iTunes

I have just been given an iPod Touch (32 gb) and am trying to get it to work.
I started by down loading a new copy of iTunes (there was an old version on my computer) and installing it. I plugged in the iPod and for a few seconds it displayed the apple logo. Then a symbol showing a usb cable with an arrow pointing to a iTunes logo appeared. The computer detects the iPod, but iTunes doesn't. I have not been able to progress past this screen. Initally, I thought that it might not have charged, so I left it plugged in for a few hours. I contacted Apple, and on their instructions, I've tried turning it off and doing a restore. I've also removed iTunes and then reinstalled it. I've tested my setup on an old iPod (iTunes detects it fine) and another iPod Touch (iTunes doesn't detect it). When the iPod Touch is connected to a Mac, it works fine.
My computer uses Windows XP and is about six years old.
Does anybody have an idea for something else I can try? Thank you in advance.Try removing your Security Software(nortons,Zone alarm,Mcaffe etc)or at least turning it off and reboot, then delete the driver installed for your i-pod and reinstall the driver, then reinstall your Security System.Hope that helps it worked for me!!!!

2nd Generation iPod Touch stuck in "Connect to iTunes" mode
I was using a 2010 ipod Touch today and when I later turned it on I get the iTunes must connect display.
I don't have a backup. If I restore and update, will I lose all the photos?
Is there any way to recover this data if so?
My niece will be heartbroken if the all her photos are lost.....Now that's a heck of a glitch. She's been using it for three years.
The battery was fully charged and after taking several pictures, that's what came up.
Not sure how many pics are still in iCloud.
I saw a few 3rd party apps that claim to recover, wonder if these are a waste of time. -

windows recognizes it- but itunes says "unknown error (0xE8000065)" everytime it's plugged into the USB. I seriously can't figure this one out.

New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3, says it needs 11.1 or newer but I cannot load that onto my MacBook running on OSX 10.5.8 - is there anyway around this?
No. If your MacBook has an Intel processor you can update to OSX 10.6.8 and then install the latest iTunes.
A 5G iPod with iOS 7 requires that if you have a Mac you have OSX 10.6.8 or later.

You need iTunes 10.5 or later and that requires OSX 10.5.8 or later. -
2nd Generation iPod Touch won't upgrade to iOS 4.2
I just traded my old 2nd generation ipod touch with apple for one with a new battery. I sync it with itynes and am told to upgrade the IOS to 4.2. When I try, i get this message: The iPod "Bob's iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1).
I have also tried to update the software using my older MacBook with an earlier version of iTunes and get the same message. I even complained to Apple and they sent me another replacement and I still get the message. I am told that you can upgrade the 2nd generation to 4.2 but it doesn't work for me. I have disabled my antivirus software and everything else I can think of. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I may be doing wrong?Error -1
Attempt to restore your iOS device two more times. If the issue is still unresolved, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I got it as a gift a couple years ago, so I'm not sure exactly what generation it is. My iPod Touch will not connect to iTunes or my computer, and the "on this iPod" tab is also gone.
