2nd generation shuffle wiped out 1st generation shuffle

Have been using a 1st generation shuffle. Yesterday installed a new 2nd generation shuffle on the same computer. Problem is now computer when plug the 1st gen into the computer it does not even show up on desktop.

Hi nickh2913,
If you are having issues with your 2nd Gen iPod Shuffle, you may want to try the steps in the following Troubleshooting Assistant:

  • Ipod Shuffle Podcast playlist - 1st generation

I have no problems downloading and playing my podcasts. But I can't follow the instruction of reordering the playing. I load them in the order I want them to play. I don't understand how to play them in the order I loaded them to my Ipod. I highlighted the "song" in the the header and then go down to try to select a song to move it up or down...but that won't make it reorder to a higher or lower position. Obviously podcast "tHree" is playing before "Two" because it is alphabetically higher than "tWo". Any suggestions? I can group them but I want to order them non-alphabetically by "song".

I load songs onto my iPod Shuffle - 1st
    generation.
I play my songs in sequential order, but it skips
songs with no apparent rhyme or reason. When I
connect my shuffle to iTunes, I see all the songs
    I
loaded, and the songs will play on iTunes.
Also, the songs that are skipped are not always
    the
same ones. For instance, I load the iPod the first
time, and it may skip songs 1, 5, 9, etc...
    whereas
the next time it may be song 2, 6, 8, etc...
I tried using the Restore function with iTunes,
    and
the iPod Reset Utility, but I have had no luck.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.
Your slide switch may actually be in "shuffle" as
opposed to play-in-order... slide it back and forth
a number of times to free it of any crud that may
have gotten under it, then position it in
play-in-order. IF shuffle still skips songs, press
the PLAY/PAUSE switch quickly 3 times. That should
result in either beginning to play the FIRST song
again OR a completely different song. If the latter,
    you're actually in "shuffle" mode.
Thanks for the response. That's a pretty good idea.
However, it appears that is not the problem. I did check the button, and it seems to play sequentially for the most part. I did the triple-click check that you mentioned, and it goes back to the first song in the list.

  • Cannot recognize iPad 1st generation, cannot recognize iPad 1st generation

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

  • Connecting iPod Shuffle 1st generation (Early 2005) to Windows Vista

    Hi
I bought a early iPod Shuffle in 2005 and installed it on a Windows Xp Computer. The installation disk was for Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The iPodWorks fine even now.
Want to install it on a Windows Vista Computer. Does not install properly. iPod not recognised. iPod never appears in the iTunes windows. I assume it needs a USB driver for Vista. Nothing on the Apple support website or so far as I can see in the discussion group for 1st generation iPod shuffles.
    Regards

The 1st gen shuffle has REALLY excellent sound.  It is better than 2nd gen shuffle, and other iPods, for sound.  Because it has a separate docking connection (the USB plug), it is the only shuffle that can play music while it is charging.  Plus, I like being able to hold it in my hand and control it (not clipped).
Because I liked it so much, a few years ago, I bought some broken ones being sold on eBay.  Using these instructions
    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Shuffle_1st_Generation
I took them apart and tried to assemble working ones by swapping parts.  Fortunately, the 1st gen shuffle is small, but not tiny.  Unfortunately, the most common failure point (by far) was USB plug component (including a very delicate ribbon cable that connects to logic board).  I have plenty of "spare parts" now, except for that USB plug part.  So I am VERY careful when connecting and disconnecting my remaining working 1st gen shuffle, and try to do it as infrequently as possible.

Yes... take it to an Apple Store IF it's still under warranty. Otherwise, you can replace it with a refurbished 1s Gen or 2nd Gen Shuffle from the online Apple Store for $49 or $59.

  • Ipod shuffle 1st generation not recognized by itunes

Right after I updated to itunes 12, my first generation ipod shuffle will not longer be recognized by itunes. I run Windows 7 and it is recognized when I open up windows explorer, but I can't get to it in itunes. Any help?? Thanks!

  • ITunes & iMac do not recognize 1st generation ipod shuffle

My 1st generation ipod shuffle does not show up in either the desktop or itunes. It does however light up the orange or green light when connected to the computer.
It also seems to knock out the usb connection that it was plugged into. After I unplug it I try to put the keyboard in the same usb slot that the shuffle was in and it does not work. But it does work in other usb outlets. I reset the PRAM and NVRAM and then the all usb connectors work again.
Also, to add to the confusion I have 2 first generation ipod shuffles. The other one works fine.
I cannot restore the shuffle because I can not see it anywhere.
Is there anything that can be done?

Here in Brazil if the technicians solve the 1418 iPod problem with "magic softwares" provided from Apple just for assistence services, they are charging the iPod users about U$40.
But if the problem is classified as a hardware problem, and if its under warranty, they give you another new or a refurbished (yek!).
If its not under warranty, you can have your iPod and pray for fix...
Is it fair that a problem probably cause by a software provided from the own manufacturer should be solved by Apple's costumers? I dont think so...
Do you any idea about what can we do?

  • HT1339 my ipod shuffle(1st generation) is corrupted (error 1442) it will not restore.             is it possible to correct this or is it beyond repair. It worked the last time I used it on my laptop with Windows Vista. Vista.

My ipod shuffle (1st generation) will not restore. It says it is corrupted(error 1442) Is it possible to correct this problem, or is it beyond repair. It worked last  time I used it on my laptop with Windows Vista. Any help would be much appreciated.

Im actually tilting it up where it cinnects to my iPod, not where it connects to my computer, and i have tried three(yes, 3) different cables, one of which i bought brand new. still nothing, and i've also tried different USB ports on my computer,....nothing. Could this simply be a hardware failure of somekind? maybe a physical problem...i mean, why would i have to tilt the cable in order for my computer to actually read my iPod? im looking at the USB connector on my iPod (maybe it's my imagination, not sure) it possible might be bent, the little metal part in the port.

  • Ipod 1st generation shuffle isn't recognized by iTunes

Plugged my 1st generation iPod shuffle into the USB port and it isn't showing up in iTunes.
I have read through all the Troubleshooting steps and nothing seems to be working.
When I go to Eject Hardware though, it shows Eject Ipod, so I know my Dell PC (Windows 8) is seeing the shuffle.
    Odd.
I'll take any help anyone has!
    Thanks.

In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
When connected, the shuffle should appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  It does not appear there?
If it does not, as a test, shut down (power off) your computer.  Disconnect all USB devices including hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If your PC is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it is not running on battery power).  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.  Any difference when the shuffle is the only USB device connected?

  • 1st Generation iPod Shuffle - Won't be recongized by two Macs

Hi... I've read through a lot of topics on this forum and it looks like at some point, these things just stop working (at least, the USB connector stops working).
My iPod Shuffle, 1st Generation, 512MB, can:
    - Play Music
    - Turn on and off
    - Skip forward and backwards
... shows a green light for the charge indicator.
But I cannot get either my G5 or my MacBook to see it, and I've tried every USB port on both computers. iTunes doesn't see it, System Profiler doesn't see it. And hence, I can't use iPod Reset Utility.
I've tried three of the five Rs: Reset, Restart, Re-Try, but cannot Restore it via iTunes (obviously).
My guess, since there weren't any solutions posted here to many similar messages, that there's no recovery from this status.
    Confirm?

    Try 2 more things:
    1. With the Shuffle connected to your computer Reset it, i.e., turn it off and on.
    2. If 1 does not work, power down your Mac, connect the Shuffle and power up the Mac.
If neither work it is probably a broken USB connector.

  • I have a 1st generation iPod shuffle when I switch on and press wheel a green and then orange light flashes.?

I Have a 1st generation iPod shuffle, on the wheel it's flashing green and orange.....any ideas.?

It sounds like the "Error light" described toward the end fo this document

The document provides some possible causes, and things to try, including doing a Restore if the other suggestions do not apply or do not work.

  • My 1st generation iPod shuffle

i need help with my 1st generation iPod shuffle, I think it's different because I don't have green/amber lights on my iPod shuffle, it's red/blue lights and it's on the front of the iPod. I need help in recognizing what does the red light mean? what does the blinking blue light mean? and what does the steady blue light mean? can anyone help me? I have instructions to this iPod but, doesn't explain the light formats.

Do you actually have a REAL, Apple shuffle with a valid Apple serial number? Shuffles made by Apple have LEDs which display green, orange or red, but not blue.

  • Why won't my 2010 MacBook Pro recognizing my 1st generation iPod Shuffle?

My 2010 13" MacBook Pro does not recognize my 1st generation iPod Shuffle. Do I need software? Is there anywhere I can go to download it?

    Hi all -
I cannot view my flash drive OR my office server, which I should be able to connect to via VPN. VPN was installed on my Macbook Pro at my office on Friday. It worked fine. Now I bring it home, and I connect using VPN, and it shows that I am connected, yet the server hard drive icon does not appear on my desktop (as it usually did) and I can't see how to access the server at work.
I also cannot view flash drives when I plug them in - they just don't show up.
I had Norton installed; I read online I should disable that. I did this, and no luck. I also have already done all the things suggested on this post and have all the boxes checked, and yet, still cannot use a flash drive or access my work server.
I am stuck? Do I have to bring my Macbook pro in for service? I have NOT upgraded to Mavericks.
    Thanks for any help.
I am not that well versed in finding my way around a Mac - so keep any explanations simple, please.

  • I need help with getting an update for my 1st generation ipod shuffle.

I am trying to install iTunes and iPod software on my computer but the iPod cd is apparently not compatible with my version of windows. I need to download an update but I cannot get any support because my 1st generation iPod shuffle is not one of the selections available for support. Does anyone know how I can download the update I need?

Neil, I installed itunes but that hasn't helped the issue I am having with my 1st generation iPod. I have searched and searched but there is nothing that allows me to update my iPod, download to my iPod, all I see is iPhone or iPad, neither of which I happen to own, so I am still at square one with my problem. I can't get any Apple support because my iPod is not one of the choices, no mention of the 1st generation. It's as if it no longer exists and there is no support available. I tried plugging it into my usb port, hoping that something would pop up on the screen and give me guidance, but alas, that failed as well. I feel like this whole thing is an exercise in futility.  Thanks for your attempt to assist me.
