2nd harddrive no longer mounting

I have had my mac pro for 3 years without issue. Today I rebooted and my second internal HDD no longer shows up in finder or on the desktop. I bought the computer with 2 500gb drives in it and they have both always mounted when I boot up. I opened the case and unplugged both drives and re-installed both drives. When I booted back up I saw both drives again. I then opened utorrent and did a force recheck on the files that were qued (files downloading to the 2nd drive) and utorrent locked up. When I force quit utorrent the drive vanished again. Not sure if any of that is related, but I wanted to tell everything I was doing at the time.
Please excuse any typos, I'm on my iPhone because my Internet is out...+1 for multiple computer issues!

Your second drive is dead. Replace it and move on. I would also advise against recovery services, since you are pirating copyrighted material. You may just get that conscientious employee who reports you to the BSA, RIAA, MPAA, etc.

  • Thanksgiving Disaster! Internal HD no longer Mounted.

Hey Hope you guys can help,
I've never had this happen to me. I was playing Starcraft, once I was done shut off my Macbook like any other day. Come to turn it back on this morning with the flashing question folder. Switched my laptop to Target disk mode and couldn't view the drive with my G5.
Trying to cut my losses seeing as i backed-up a week ago. Figured I'd re-install, only there is no Destination drive, meaning in my mind. The internal harddrive is no longer mounted. I am new with Terminal, but assume there is a way to re-mount my HD and all this may be forgotten. Can somebody help me out with this?? Thanks A Lot you guys!!

Boot from your OS X Installer Disc One. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. As soon as the menubar appears (ignore the dialog on the screen) select Disk Utility from the Utilities or Installer menu. After DU loads see if your drive is listed in the left side list. If not the drive is most likely dead or your motherboard is.
If you can see the drive, then select the startup volume entry, click on the First Aid tab in the DU main window, then click on the Repair Disk button. If errors are reported re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If you must re-run Repair Disk more than seven times and still receive errors, then DU cannot repair the drive. If this is the case then you will need to try repairing the drive with Disk Warrior or erase the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • IPod no longer mounts since Leopard upgrade

My iPod no longer mounts since I upgraded to Leopard. I'm using a USB 2 port that's part of a third party PCI card I installed myself. Used to work fine before the Mac OS upgrade.
If I reboot with the iPod already plugged in, it mounts.
    Help?

Forgot to mention that I had tried those:
Authorize your purchases from an administrator account
    -> Yep, I'm the admin
Authorize using the correct account name
-> Nothing changed- I am only authorizing my devices, and only use my account on the machine. Definitely using the right account name.
Turn Off User Account Controls (Windows Vista and Windows 7 Only)
-> Did this a long, long time ago, so definitely not the issue.
    Remove the SC Info folder
-> This was the only new thing that I had seen yesterday when I tried it, and went through these steps, to no avail. Still exactly the same problem. I closed iTunes, deleted the folder, rebooted and relaunched iTunes and synced the device. Same thing.
The problem is the computer IS authorized, and I can sync one device, but not the other. No problem with iPhone 4- just iPod Touch, 3rd gen. It seems to be in a weird state.
One thing would lead me to believe it's a PC/iTunes problem, but then it is only with one device and not the other. Hard to point to the root of the problem. I just don't want to lose the data on the iPod- I've done a lot of work on it.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • IPod no longer mounting on Desktop or appearing in iTunes sidebar

After upgrading to iTunes 7 (7.0.2 installed), my iPod with Video will no longer mount on the desktop and does not appear in the iTunes sidebar.
When I am recharging/updating the content of my iPod, I am unsure when to disconnect, as I am getting 'Do no disconnect' displaying on my iPod screen all the time.
Previously, I could click on the eject button within iTunes, and the iPod would continue recharging, but I wouldn't get the 'Do no disconnect' warning on the iPod once I had ejected the iPod on the side bar and shut down iTunes. The iPod display would only show the charging battery symbol and I could disconnect after one hour of charging, if need be.
Now it just says 'Do no disconnect' all the time.
I have reset etc, but no matter what I do, all I get is the permanent 'Do no disconnect'.

Just checked. The display is frozen. It says 'Do no disconnect' and has the red warning symbol.

  • LaCie Hard Drive No Longer Mounts on iBook G4

    Hello,
My LaCie 600 GB Hard drive will no longer mount onto my iBook G4. I had this problem about 6 months ago. It was solved by reformatting my whole computer through the installation disks that came with my computer. After I reformatted it, the hard drive was immediately recognized. I don't want to go that route again because I have a lot of programs on there that would take forever to reinstall. I have all of my important info backed up, just not the programs itself.
    I've tried running:
    Macaroni
    Utility Disk
    Data Rescue II
And neither of these came up with any "diagnosis" on why my hard drive won't mount. I check my cables through plugging my hard drive in other computers, and it works fine. I think it has to do with my hardware on my iBook G4.
When I plug it into my usb port, the blue light on my hard drive turns on, and I can hear the inside spinning. It just doesn't pop up onto my desktop. It doesn't show up in disk utility either.
Any ideas on what I can do?
    -Kristen

I would contact the folks at LaCie for their feedback.

  • Striped + Mirrored software RAID no longer mounting

I have a MacPro 4,1 using the 4 internal bays each with a 1.5GB drive. Drives 1&2 are mirrored, drives 3&4 are mirrored. Those 2 mirrored drives are then striped together for a volume called 'Titanic.' Been working great for years, but just recently Titanic will no longer mount. My mirrors don't show any errors, but it seems I lost the stripe configuration. I updated to Yosemite last week. When running verify and repair I get:
Invalid number of allocation blocks. The volume could not be verified completely. File system check exit code is 8.
Running Terminal's checkRaid I get this:
    AppleRAID sets (3 found)

Essentially if my mirrors are fine can I repair the striping? I have everything backed up offsite, but before I put my resources in that direction is there anything I can do to repair the problem?

My jab at it: Apple vs SoftRAID, for RAID 0+1?
Began under Mountain Lion or earlier without a rebuild?
The drives are enterprise type 7.2k 1.5TB (typo) and verified with checksum during vs lips and a tanning for weak sectors...?
SoftRAID today checks in background for media and I/O errors as well as stepped-read mirrors (3 should be minimum)
I don't see any reason not to erase and restore, probably to a new set of 3-4 2TB drives with current OS.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • External drives no longer mounting on other Mac since Leopard Install

I have recently upgraded my old iMac to a Mac Mini with Leopard, however since using my Iomega 320GB External Hard Disk and also my 2GB Kingston USB Stick on my Mini they no longer mount on my old iMac, it's like Leopard has somehow created a volume on them ensuring they won't mount elsewhere anymore.
I still have lots of files on my old iMac that I need to transfer over to my Mini so this is a problem to me.
    Any ideas?

    * BUMP *
    Anyone experienced similar problems?

  • Daisy-Chained External Drive No Longer Mounting

I have two external hard drives daisy-chained (firewire 800) to my iMac. The hard drive directly connected my iMac mounts fine. The daisy-chained hard drive no longer mounts, after mounting perfectly fine for a few months. I've tried restarting, etc with no success. Any help would be appreciated.

    moretoexplore wrote:
No, it does not mount directly. I did however try using the other hard drive's power cord and it mounted without problem. But this doesn't fix the problem.. only one drive is mounting. At least it seems I have ruled out a more serious problem with the drive itself. I'm contacting Lacie to get a new power cord. Hopefully, with a new power cord, this will resolve the issue and it isn't some sort of daisy-chain issue.
I think you have solved the problem by elimination.
You can prove that it's the power cord by using the "bad" one on the working drive. If it stops working, it's guaranteed to be the power cord.
I believe that there were some issues with some of the LaCie Power Supplies.

  • Firewire 800 external drive no longer mounting

My firewire 800 external hard drive is no longer mounting on my MBP. It powers up, spins, but has no reaction to being plugged into my computer. I've tried connecting it and the turning it on, and connecting it while it was already turned on. I've tried different cables and different types of adapter cables (fw800 to 400, fw800 to USB, etc.), but there is no communication between my drive and my Mac. Same goes if I connect it to my wife's Macbook, or my iMac at work.
I recently had the logic board and left i/o board replaced on my MBP, I'm not sure if this is relevant since the drive has worked since the replacements and I get the same results on other Macs.
    What should I do next?

who makes the drive set up?
OWC for example has a history of bad power supplies that make the drive not accessible (drive spins up but never spins all the way up)

  • No longer mount NFS volumes with 2010.q1 release:

Has anyone else seen this? I can no longer mount any of my NFS volumes with root squash since upgrading to 2010.q1. I have a ticket open with Sun (72644622), but everyone is apparently off/away.
Before they all went off, Sun Eng. suggested setting max supported NFS version to 3, but this of course did not work. Hosts trying to mount the volumes error out with:
call_verify: server HOST_IP_HERE requires stronger authentication.
I have double checked that the atuh is set to sys (not krb), but it looks like the nfsd is not respecting this.
Of course this has knocked all our VMware mounts offline as well, and using krb for these is out of the question....
Had to update to support the new FC card...which works great...but me needs me nfs shares....
Fishworks doods, stop yelling at drives and help a brother out ;)

I wish I could tell you, but it seems we lost a CIM card. Worse yet, this failure was completely SILENT. Not a single "problem" listed in the logs. However, when attaching another J4400, I noticed an alarm LED on the failed CIM and verified that the storage was only seen by 1 path. Kind of disconcerting that availability could be reduced significantly without so much as an email.
I'll let you know if we can get to the new release later this week.

  • Extl Drive : No longer mounting

I use my Lacie Firewire to backup my system. It is bootable and recently no longer mounts. It is daisy chain to another External Lacie Burner. I have taken the Drive
to another Mac, to ensure that my firewire connections are OK. I have also removed all peripherals and done a PRAM. Repaired permissions and Diskwarrior.
No joy. Any other suggestions please. Thanks

Could try this, except without doing the hot plugging for Firewire (some debate about whether or not Firewire hot plugging, plugging while a device is on, is harmful or not. Probably not harmful, but just to play it safe.)This helped someone else recently.
I solved such an issue with my firewire 800 drives via shutting down the Mac, pulling all cables (power, usb, audio, etc.), waiting for at least 15 seconds (I waited longer), and putting the power cable and keyboard/mouse cable back in.
Then start the Mac, and when it finished loading the system try again mounting your drive by putting the cable in.
It's an official procedure from Apple, but I can't seem to find the explanation on their side, the name of it escapes me.

  • Power outtage: Can no longer mount disk?! Please help

Firmware 7.2.1 and seagate 500 gb disk. everything has been fine for a while until our power went out last night. when i woke up to check some of my overnight downloads, i could no longer mount the disk. when i clicked on my alias it said it could not mount it.
when i typed in the IP to connect, it allowed me to log in and view my available mounts, but i could not connect to it. it gave me an error code -35 (not sure what that means).
i tried plugging the disk into my laptop but i cannot seem to view the disk (though it has always done this).
please help, this is very odd and there is data i need to get off that disk. thank you.

    Odd...
Using MacDrive, i'm able to view my files on the HFS drive from windows, go figure. So i'm backing them up right now and am going to reformat the external.
Now I know to back up my stuff...twice!

  • Is the iPod Touch 2nd Gen no longer usable? Is this what is store for all Apple products?

I am very disheartened with Apple.  I have loved the iPod touchs up until now.  It seems the iPod Touch 2nd Gen no longer download apps that work on the 4.2.1 iOS.  I was just selling my wife on Apple products and now this has shut her and I down on all Apple products.  I hope I am wrong but is Apple partaking in planned obsolesence? If so, planned obsolesence is not marketing and I will be looking at other brands when it comes to electronic devices.  If not, how do you download apps for an iPod touch 2nd gen running a max iOS of 4.2.1?  Thank you.

Don't despair Look at "Vintapps" in the Apple app store.  It has tons of available apps for all those earlier ios devices.  And you can download them right to your ios device.  Many are free.
Although I wrote this 99 cent app specifically to help solve this problem, I need to add that "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link."
Be sure to keep backups of older software.  Once an app is updated, the older version is no longer available to be downloaded from Apple.

  • Drives no longer mount - Only after restart do they mount

Upgrade to from 10.4 to 10.5 and ran all updates...currently have 10.5.4. My external drives no longer mount when i plug them in via usb port. Worked perfectly before upgrade. Additionally my ipod wont mount either. They dont show up in disc utility either...However if i have these devices plugged in with the computer turned on (and they aren't mounting) and i restart my computer then when it boots up again they mount and function just fine. but if i unmount and turn them off and turn them back on...they dont mount.
    any suggestions?

    Hi grant862
I seam to be having the same issue. I have a number of Flash cards and a flash card reader, well tow card readers actually. I cant get the cards to mount. I have tried swapping usb cables and card readers. I have tried both readers in all my USB ports (17" Mac Book - 10.5.4). The only way that I can get them to mount is if I plug the cards back into the cam, eras an connect them. I think there is a software glitch somewhere. I don't think its the usb ports as I have tried keyboards and mice connected via these ports with no issue. I don't expect an answer to this, but Grant - if you are still out there - I wanted you to know you weren't alone. I am going to try re-installing the 10.5.4 combi download and see what happens. Oh yes and 'repair permissions' (which I have already done once...) but am beginning to think that this is just a bit like saying a mantra as a way of calming me.
