2nd HDD that doesn't refresh

Hello,
I have a SSD in my main MBP bay and a HDD in the optical bay.
Sometimes, it looks like my MBP lose the connection to the HDD.
The drive is there but when I look at folders from Finder, I get endless spinning wheel at the bottom right of the finder.
The only way is to reboot and it is working again.
Is there a way by a console line to "wake up" the HDD?
thanks

Ok, so after some time I got the following message:
* Translation of the popup box:
"Disk Utility stopped recovery iomega_HD. Disk Utility cannot recover this disk. Make a spare copy                         of as much files as possible, format the disk again and then put the files back".
Putting files back is not necesary, as it's my Time Machine backup disk and I just use it to have a guaranteed 'undo' option.
* The weird thing is: when I got this message, as you can see, the disk was recognized again. Therefore it was visible in Finder, where I removed it. I plugged it in again, and the problem I had was still there. Now I'm back to recovering the disk as shown in the image in my first post.
Is the only option to format the disk, as the popup states? I'm not an expert but could my problems be solved without something rigourous as formatting the disk? After all, after the test the disk was visible again..
Thanks.. !

  • 2nd hdd not showing up in finder (or anywhere else for that matter)

I just picked up a dual 867mhz G4 MDD model and i want to install a 2nd drive in it but i cant seem to get it to show up.
The system drive is installed behind the cpu heat sink, which seemed like a pain to get to, so i put my 2nd hdd in the bay on the left. I made sure the connectors were all secure, and i set the jumpers on my drive from Master (which i used the first time i booted up) to CS, neither of which seem to work. Disk Utility doesnt show the hdd, nor does Finder. Im 90% sure its not the drive's fault.
Do i need to install it on the same IDE cable as the system drive before filling up the other bays?

Do i need to install it on the same IDE cable as the system drive before filling up the other bays?
Nope, but even though Apple recommends CS, that won't work with some drives, if it's on a Blue IDE connector it likely won't work without a drive on the Black end, if it's on the black end it may require Master, or Single.
I'd suspect a bad IDE cable also.

  • Where would i get 2nd hdd cable for hp dv7-series (long cable) that would ship to finland.

Where would i get 2nd hdd cable for dv7 series (long one) THAT would ship to Finland. (as the subject says eh')

    Hei:
It depends on where in the dv7 model series your PC falls.
There are 2 types of second HDD cables. The one Kamat pointed out for the dv7 6xxx series, and then there is this one at the link below for these dv7 series:
     http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=345&zenid=b451f3afd6d86cd...
So, you will need to know what dv7 you have.
I believe they ship worldwide. A forum member from Italy got his from here. That is how I know about this site, and all about the fact that there are 2 types of 2nd HDD cables for dv7's.
The only part number referenced for a 2nd HDD cable in the service manual is for the dv7-6xxx series.

  • Back-up / Retrieve Files from an external hard drive that doesn't appear in Devices

    Someone please help!
I am going to write the "history" from my disk utility repair here so that other's who copy and paste into search may find it:
    (PLEASE SCROLL 13 ROWS DOWN)
Verify and Repair volume “Your Hard Drive Name”
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Checking extents overflow file.
    Checking catalog file.
    Keys out of order
    Rebuilding catalog B-tree.
The volume   could not be repaired.
Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
Ok. I would really love to reformat this disk, but I have stuff on here from film school that I CAN NOT lose
    Question:
How would I go about backing-up the disk if the image doesn't appear under devices? I went to the "Restore" tab/button, but I can not choose the hard drive in the first field. I could have sworn my hard drive was formatted for Mac, but I may have formatted it back to FAT32. I know the disk still functions because when it is powered on, it cycles with/without being connected to my MacPro, but after that, it will only cycle if connected (confirming connection). It does run again when I connect the firewire cable. Here is my equipment:
    8-Core MacPro 16GB-Mem RAID
    MacOSX 10.6.8 | 2 X 1TB Internal HDD
    Aug-2008 15" MacBookPro
(That I used the Maxtor-External with mostly)
    DEVICE IN QUESTION
    500GB Maxtor One-Touch Plus
    FireWire 400 6-pin Connection Bus (2 Ports)
Purchased in Early 2008 from Staples
I can fit the back-up on my 2nd HDD in my MacPro or in my other External:
    2 TB G-Technology G-RAID External
    1 x eSATA |  2 x FireWire 800 9-pin |  1 x USB 2.0
    Self Powered DC-IN
I have had a nightmare searching for answers, so any options you might have would be tremendously helpful. I can't lose the data because I have everything I did during film school on there. That stuff is basically what you pay for when you go to film school, you pay to show what you can do and what equipment you have used. SAVE ME FELLOW APPLE PEOPLE!!!! We COMMAND, as well as CONTROL!

Get Disk Warrior that will repair the problems without requiring that you reformat the drive - $99.00 on a bootable CD. Will not work on a FAT formatted drive.
You will need to use Drag and Drop to save your files by copying them from the bad drive to a good one.
    To reprep the drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Can I install a 2nd HDD in my Satellite P200-10C?

    Hi
I have a Satellite P200-10C which I want to upgrade with a 2nd HDD. I called a Toshiba representative who told me my model doesn't support an other HDD. But then again, why does it have a place in the back of the laptop for a 2nd one?
Could some one tell me if it can be used to accommodate a 2nd HDD.
    Thanks in advance
    Gerardo

    @Jayjay
I finally decided to open the compartment for the 2nd HDD of my Satellite P200-10C. I discovered there the modem (I think) and enough space to accommodate a HDD but alas! No connector for the HDD. I think that settled the matter. I can not have a 2nd HDD. Unless of course someone in the future find a way to attach a connector.
    Thanks for your answer, Jajay

  • Re : T400 2764CTO, 2nd HDD Adapter for an Ultrabay Slim, to be used in the DVD bay

What is the part # for the 2nd HDD Adapter for an Ultrabay Slim, to be used in the DVD bayCan you also confirm it is a SATA connection, I have already been sent an IBM P/N 41U3148 which has the IDE connection and appears not to fit.
    Thanks for help

Actually, it is entirely accurate.  Here is another related thread with a lot of pictures that demonstrate the problem.  I have 3 Lenovo W520s and 3 useless Lenovo Ultramedia bay adapters.  I cannot tolerate the gap because it causes frequent drive dismounts when I pick up the laptop when it is running or even touching the side.  The newmodeus adapters I purchased to replace the defective Lenovo adapters have been rock solid!  I recommend visiting all the picture links on this thread.  It will clearly demonstrate the problem:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Will-Hard-Drive-Bay-Adapter-II-two-work-in-W52...
Shan, it isn't entirely correct because we have a lot of W510 and W520 users in my company this doesn't occur with. I am not discounting the problem. I only take exception to the statement that blankets ALL users and ALL hard drive adaptors.  Doing that is incorrect.

  • Bought a DV7t with 7200 RPM Hybrid HDD; a) Can I add a 2nd SDD drive or b) 2nd HDD ?

    I bought a DV7T QE with a Single 750GB HD. Question:
    1) Can a SDD be added, given that HP doesn't give this as an option, yet it should be possible
    2) If a 2nd HDD is added (assuming same manufacturer as 750 GB HDD), HP originally offered this configuration and allowed Intel SMart Response mSSD option - Any instruction on how to add 2nd HDD and then turning on the mSSD Intel SRT ?
    Thanks
    V

    Hi,
    1. Yes, you can add SSD as the second harddrive on your machine,
    2. If adding SSD, you better swap it to be your FIRST harddrive and if that was the case then mSSD Intel SRT became useless, no need to have mSSD Intel SRT because I've got REAL SSD.

  • Satellite A300-1J1 - How to install 2nd HDD?

    Hello
I bought a Satellite A300 and I see in the specifications that is possible to add a 2nd hdd. So I bought one and when I opened the hdd box, I didn't find a connector to connect to my hdd. I think I must install a SATA connector but I didn't find any way to proceed.
    Thanks
PS : Excuse me if you find mistakes, I doesn't speak very well

    Hello
    Thans for your answers.
Here is the link http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&PRODUCT_ID=1 056110
By the way, I'll take a photo to show you the box, maybe the connector is inside but I didn't notice it.
    Thanks
PS : they changed specifications of the product, removing "box for 2nd hdd". You can see on this site, for example, and for french speakers http://www.ldlc-pro.com/fiche/PB00075521.html that they say "hdd 250 go + box for a 2nd hdd"

  • Installing 2nd HDD and RAM: ??'s on installing and performance

    Hi folks,
I bought a 2nd HDD (Maxtor's Maxline 500 GB Sata2) and 2GB (2x1GB) for my G5. A friend has offered to help install the items during his lunch hour seeing that my hands are deformed by arthritis. Can both be installed under an hour? I'd hate to have him come to my place to find out this requires a longer time.
For the HDD: The G5 came with a stock Maxtor 160 GB (6Y160M0) in Bay A. Should i keep this as the boot drive or would I see a nice difference if I had the new Maxtor 500 as the boot drive? Should I swap bays or doesn't matter?
For the RAM: The G5 came with 2x512GB sticks and it has 8 DIMM slots:
    D-C-B-512 || 512-B-C-D
Should i simply pop the new RAM sticks in the B-B slots or would there be a performace increase if i pop the new in the A-A slots and move the 512 to the B-B slots?
Thanx in advance for any tips and recommendations,
    Frank

Easily installed in under an hour. Piece of cake. I agree with Jeff that I like to keep the bigger drive in the A bay, but it's more a matter of perosnal preference than performance. If the new drive is inherently faster than the stock drive (which I imagine it is), you'll see a slight performance increase if you make the 500GB your startup drive.
As for the RAM, I don't think it makes any difference, but I personally put the biggest sticks in "A" and work high to low as I got out to "D."
Hope we helped. Be sure to award points if we did.

  • The detail part of table doesn't refresh after deleting a row

    Hello!
I'm developing a Master-Detail table with some a functionality. Particularly, I want to invoke a DELETE function in the Detail part of the table.
For this purpose, I placed a Command button to the tableSelectOne component of the Detail part of the table, which stores current row key and calls another page. On this (<another>) page I created a ReadOnly form with data related to the row of Detail table, which key is stored. In addition, I added there two Command buttons. First of them is a CancelButton, which does nothing except returning to master-detail page. The second is a DeleteButton, which executes a RemoveEntity method and returns to master-detail page, too.
When I'm tried to delete in this way a row from detail part of table, I discovered, that this row is really deleted from the database, but it doesn't affect on the content of the Detail part of the table. Any kinds of refreshing couldn't aid me, only restart of the application.
Could anybody help me to solve this problem?
    Thank in advance.

    Hi,
I'm facing the same problem but Frank's solution doesn't fix it.
you need to define an invoke action in the binding
for your m/d page and set it into the page binding's
execute section. Then set the condition for invoking
the action to !postback. This will re-execute the
iteratorThis efectively re-executes the iterator, so the master table data is refreshed. You can see the TopLink log showing the query to the db (I'm using TopLink instead of BC). The problem is that the detail rows are queried only once and only the inserts and updates are displayed, not the deletes.
I think the problem may be related to PPR or some cache issue.
    See the BC tutorial
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/ADFBC_tutorial_10
    13/ADFBC_tutorial.pdf
See page 86 "Adding the ServiceHistories Data". This
defines a invoke action for this kinf of task. More
example code is contained in the SRDemo sampleThe tutorial doesn't contain a scenario with master-detail deleting detail records (neither the BC tutorial, nor the TopLink one) so it can't help me :(
The only solution I can think of is using a different model method (a method in the SessionFacade for TopLink) for the detail table (one that takes the master PK as parameter and retrieves the corresponding detail records) and have a selectionListener in the selection component of the master re-execute the method (passing the PK from the master table current row).
Is there a solution that doesn't require the use of a separate method for the detail?
    Thanks,
    Miguel

  • How do I install Yosemite on a 2nd HDD I have added and have the Mac Pro boot from the new HDD?

My MacPro's HD seems to be failing. None of the tests I run indicate that, but I get constant spinning balls and everything takes a long time. I bought a 2nd HDD and installed it in the 2nd bayou my Early 2009 Mac Pro. I formatted it and want to install Yosemite and have the Mac boot off the new drive. It is currently running OS X 10.9.5. When I go to update to Yosemite it begins to download. Will it give me the option of which drive to install on? Or will it just upgrade the original Mac's HD?

    A Samsung 850 EVO 128GB SSD $75 now and makes a huge improvement. But get the 250GB which is $99. 500GB $199
Wish you asked us first   Awesome prices and performance.
Output from Etrecheck is an easy "quick check" of what your system is carrying around and what baggage it has.
Move data to a 'data and media library" drive.
Use CCC to skip the user data folders except ~/Library and clone to SSD
And might want to save the installer .ESD package for use as clean installer and to be able to boot from.

  • Disk Utility doesn't refresh when inserting new DVDs

I'm in the process of copying a few DVDs by making an image of them first and then burning the image onto a blank DVD through Disk Utility.
After I'm done with one and insert a new DVD to copy, Disk Utility doesn't refresh to show me the new disk is in the drive. Is it normal?
If it is, is there something I can press so that Disk Utility manually refresh its listing of drives?
I find that quitting and restarting Disk Utility just to make a new image is so inefficient.

I am suddenly having the same problem. When I insert a blank disc either cd or dvd it does not show up in the left column in disc utility. I have tried closing and then relaunching disc utility but nothing. The disc shows up on my desk top but not in disc utility. I fear this is a Snow Leopard problem. Toast has no problem recognizing the disc and burning to it.

  • Installing Windows XP on 2nd HDD

I tried searching and reading prior post, but could not find an answer, so any one with knowledge, please help.
Question #1: I want to install Windows XP on a 2nd internal HDD, to keep it separate from the HDD that has OS X. Do I use BootCamp (BC), and during some point of the installation, BC will ask which drive I want to use for Windows XP? If not, how do I install Windows XP onto a separate HDD?
Question #2: Since my PC uses a different style of HDD than the Mac Pro, if I pull the HDD from my PC that has Windows XP set up on it and using an external HDD enclosure to run the drive, can I connect it (firewire) to my Mac Pro and simple copy the contents to the 2nd internal HDD? Will I then be able to boot from either OS at start-up?
    Bruce

Print out the PDF that comes with BootCamp Assistant.
The drive needs to be formatted as GUID first if you want to use only half or part of it. If you choose MRB, then the whole drive gets used. Though you could just format as two FAT partitions and go from there.
BootCamp fully supports installing on 2nd hdd.
Copy? as in using Norton Ghost or similar program. But Windows can't be booted from any form of external hdd, not normally or easily.

  • 2nd HDD Bracket for SFF P300?

I recently purchased a Thinkstation P300 SFF machine that came configured with a 3.5" 1TB primary HDD.
I would now like to add a second 3.5" hard disk drive, but I need a bracket to install it into. That should be simple, right?
Unfortunately, after multiple calls to Lenovo sales and tech support...nobody can find a part number for this hard drive bracket. I've tried to order it twice - once they sent me a 2.5" HDD bracket that fits in my P300, but won't fit my 3.5" HDD. The second time, they sent me a 3.5" HDD bracket, but the bracket was for the tower version, not the SFF version of the P300.
According to the system specs and hardware manuals, the SFF P300 will accomodate TWO 3.5" HDD's.
It should not take this much trouble to add a second HDD to a "workstation" class machine.
Can anyone help?  Is there a part number for this thing? Is anyone there?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. Yes, my P300 came with a DVD/RW. I think it is standard height. The bracket holding the ODD is 1/2" taller than the bracket holding the primary HDD.
    2.  Yes...the front panel includes a card reader, plus microphone input, headphone output, and 2 USB 3.0 slots.
It appears to me that there is room in the case for the 2nd HDD - it looks like the bracket for drive #2 has room to be installed against drive #1 (the bracket should allow them to connect together without screws, per the hardware manual).
I can post photos of the inside and outside of the unit, if that would help.
The unit I purchased was from CDW...here's the URL for it on their site.
Oh...and I will need a "bracket kit", including SATA data and power cables. There are only two SATA power cables on the motherboard, and those are both already taken up, so I will need some sort of power cable splitter in order to power both HDD's.
I suspect that this is an issue on your end...I've contacted both Sales and Support, multiple times, and neither one has been able to find me the bracket kit that I need.
I'm getting ready to return the P300 to CDW, because if I can't install a 2nd HDD, it's not useful to me. I would prefer to keep it, but not in its present state.
    Thanks.

  • The administration console doesn't refresh

    Hello,
I used WebCenter Portal Administration Console (http://<server>:<port>/<context_root>/admin to delete a page at runtime.
Then I added new pages in the page hierarchy in my portal application, which I would like to see in the admin console too, but it seems they don't show up
I mention that the admin console looks fine on my integrated environment but on the managed server it doesn't refresh.
How the admin console should be refreshed to reflect the latest changes?
    Thanks,
    Constantin

Yes, your understanding is correct. I added the pages in the pages folder in JDeveloper (11.1.1.4) and then added them to the page hierarchy.
    Here is the pages.xml content
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <pagesDef xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/webcenter/page"
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.oracle.com/webcenter/page/pagesDef.xsd">
    <pageDef contentMRef="/oracle/webcenter/portalapp/pages/home.jspx"
    hidden="false" shared="false" hasSubPages="false" id="home"
    overridePolicy="true"/>
    <pageDef contentMRef="/oracle/webcenter/portalapp/pages/ipc.jspx"
    hidden="true" shared="false" hasSubPages="false" id="ipc"/>
    <pageDef contentMRef="/oracle/webcenter/portalapp/pages/google.jspx"
    hidden="true" shared="false" hasSubPages="false" id="google"
    overridePolicy="true"/>
    <pageDef contentMRef="/oracle/webcenter/portalapp/pages/services.jspx"
    hidden="true" shared="false" hasSubPages="false" id="services"/>
    </pagesDef>
I can see all the pages in the IWLS admin but in WLS admin I can see only the "home" page.
Previously I deleted "ipc", "google" and "services" from WLS admin and I cannot see them again after a new deployment.
I can add new pages in WLS admin without any problem.
For IWLS, although I deleted the same pages in admin console, after a new deployment all the pages are shown.
I guess it is the setting "delete customization before each run" in JDeveloper which allows the refresh of the IWLS admin console too.
The question is what is the equivalant for WLS? Do I need to "clean" the customization?
    Thanks,
    Constantin
