2 weeks ago my iphone 4 started acting funny. Everyday for whatever reason i would lose service and then it would say "connect to itunes " and I would have to restore the phone to its original factory settings. this went on for 3 days until finally it refused to be restored through itunes, and it was now not reading my sim card. so i went and got a new sim card at ATT , didn't solve the problem. So I took it to the apple store, they determined that it couldn't be restored and they gave me a replacment unit. well a few days later , the same thing has been happening . This is a completly different phone , and every 24 hours it needs to be restored. what is going on ? why is this happening .

ok , so went to the apple store, they were able to restore the 2nd iphone back to factory settings, but they had to do something special or something to get it to work. we then set it up as a new phone, and guess what ? a day later same thing happened, and it happened after the phone had been restored and i hadn't synced it with any device yet. ok , explain that one to me. presently it gets stuck "restoring iphone firmware" and gets stuck doing that . i don't want to drive to the stupid apple store for the 3rd time in 2 weeks. ARRRGH !!! this is ********

What version of iTunes are you using? The error you references seems to be connected with iTunes 9.0.4. That version of iTunes is not compatible with iOS 6. You need to update to the current version of iTunes.

Now that my kids are getting old and my wife has recently purchased an Iphone, I can see that I need to change my strategy. I plan to add a few more iphones to the family very soon. What is your recommendation to manage all of our devices (iphones, itouch, apple tv) for my family? Can I continue to function with one apple ID or is it time to take the leep into attempting to manage multi-apple ID's?

My iphone 4 will not charge when I plug it in, it will turn on but it says that it needs to be restored and will not do anything else. When I plug it into itunes it isn't recognized at all. I took it into the verizon store and they were not any help at all. My phone isn't under warranty anymore so they don't care. its fixed!! After posting my problem with the FROZEN ipod classic (2007) 80 gb a screen popped up with similar subjects that I did not find in my original search. 'Rich Fleming' in the community posted a suggestion to someone with a similar frozen issue and it WORKED when I tried it.
hold the 'menu' and the 'circle' buttons down at the same time, KEEP the pressed until the apple appears. and now it is working. Hope this helps others.

It sounds like you have installed the 64 bit version of iTunes, but you continue to the get an error message that suggests to download the 64 bit version any time you connect your iPhone. I understand that you have already uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, but sometimes you may need to uninstall additional components related to iTunes to completely remove it from your system.
I recommend following the steps in the article below to completely uninstall iTunes (click on the link for your version of Windows):

Used 2nd Gen. Nano keeps needing to be restored

I have the latest version of iTunes as of this morning.
I purchased a used 2nd generation Nano and when I plugged it in the only option that was available to me was the "Summary" tab in iTunes. I wasn't able to upload songs or change any settings. So I Restored the Nano, relaunched iTunes and now I am in a continuous cycle of it saying that "it has detected it in recovery mode and that it needs to be restored before it can be used."
How can I reformat this and restore it's functionality?

HT201210 my iphone keeps needing to be restored

My iphone over the past month and a half is constantly needing to be restored. Sometimes it can be weeks apart and other times it can be more than once in a day. My phone will usually lose network service before coming up with the 'activation required' screen, when I then unlock the phone it shows the screen requiring you to connect the phone to itunes. Is there anything that I can do to resole this issue??? I have oviously restored it many times and all of my itunes and iphome software is up to date.

The nearest Apple Store is three hours away. Asking if anyone else has any suggestions? It also doesn't seem to be going into recovery mode anymore and is just doing the restore needed thing every few hours.

so i than hit restore and it does the process
when it is almost done the phone shows a apple logo with a loading bar that is stuck makes no further progress and itunes than says error 24

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.

Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?

Every time you sync your phone to your computer it does an automatic back up. Go your itunes preferences and click on "devices" and it'll show you a list of any backups you have. These back ups will have your app data (not apps), contacts, calendar, notes, settings, a few other things store. Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
