2nd monitor through mini-dvi to dvi gives wierd tinge around window

My Samsung monitor, which before using with my new Mac, produced a beautiful picture. Now that I just hooked it up with the mini-dvi to dvi toggle, any window that shows up on the Samsung has this sort of wierd glow, tinge surrounding the whole window. Like an aura. I tried to tweak the profile ,brightness etc to no avail. I think the toggle I bought was from Belkin )looked exactly the same and much less expensive than the Apple product).I doubt it that is the culprit. Anything that I can do to get a crisp and true reproduction of whatever I might place on that matter? Settings that I should look at? Or should I , in general be not expecting anything so great by using the second monitor. Thanks

  • Mini DVI does not work in windows

I have no problem using the Mini DVI adapter in OSX but when I go into windows it does not work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The only reason why I use windows is for the TVUplayer, which currently has no version for OSX

When you boot into Windows, you need to change graphics options to tell the OS to output to the External monitor. On the macbook is the intel GMA950 graphics chip and it comes with intel software when you install the drivers. If you go to control panel in Win XP, there is an intel section in there. You can then set the options to output to an external monitor either mirrored or extended desktop, and it will remember and do what you selected each time you boot into windows

  • Does the mini-DVI work via bootcamp in windows XP?

    Hello everyone!
I got a Macbook and sometimes I run Windows XP on it. I been trying to get the mini-DVI working with an external display, but I got no luck with it. I cannot find any way to get it working.
I plug it in and my display on my MacBook flash once like it usualy does when in OS X and I plug something in. But after that nothing happens, I tried opening the graphic properties but it can not find any other display. I tried all I can think of but it cannot work.
Is it even supposed to work? I heard something about the mini-DVI not working in windows. And if it supposed to work, how can I fix it?
    Hope anyone can help me!
    // David

I solved it, I updated my intel drivers. Then I plugged my monitor in, then I went in display properties and put the second monitor on extend and use as primary. Restarted and it started working, then I went into intel settings and chose primary Hope I can help others!

  • Windows 10 shows the 2nd monitor has 1920x1080 but actually it is 50% less around 1080x840

The resolution of the 2nd monitor, a Vizio VF551XVT 55-inch 1920x1080 HDTV connected through HDMI cable, shows 1920x1080 (Recommended) on the Windows 10’s Display Screen Resolution setting utility but the true resolution of the 2nd monitor is less than 50%; around 1080x840. All applications on the 2nd monitor displayed their header & boarder frames twice wider on screen, which waste/occupy lots of the 2nd monitor’s display area. Please advise how to correct this critical lower than the set/expected resolution problem of th 2nd monitor.  Thanks. The 1st/primary monitor in this case is a mobile PC Display (1920x1080), Lenovo Z710 Intel i7 4710MQ notebook with NVIDIA 840M GPU. Previously running under the Windows 8.1 OS with the same configuration, the 2nd monitor resolution was also displayed incorrectly but just initially right after the Windows 8.1 reboot, i.e. 2nd monitor shows 1920x1080 resolution but actually the 2nd monitor is about the same as Windows 10, the actual resolution is much/50% fewer than 1920x1080. However, the resolution of the 2nd monitor (HDTV) under Windows 8.1 can be corrected (worked around) by switching the main display from 1st to 2nd monitor, then switching main display back from 2nd to 1st, but such Win 8.1 work around doesn't work for Windows 10 OS . Also, please advise whether Lenovo, MS Windows or NVIDIA is responsible for the displays re-position issue. The re-position issue is, when a TV, PC, shared 2nd monitor is disconnected to watching TV, etc., Windows OS currently moves all the display positions, both active and minimized displays, from 2nd monitor to 1st/main monitor, but ideally would be just moving/re-position the active displays to the main/1st monitor and maintain/leave those minimized display positions intact, so when 2nd monitor reconnects back (done watching TV), user doesn’t need to re-align all the displays back to 2nd monitor again. Thanks for helps.

If you won't lose anything and if it is not a big hassle, I would re-install.
Mainly because Win 10 TP is, after all, a beta OS. Too many possibilities of bugs and glitches. It is better off to reinstall.
The latest build 9879 has a ISO download link. Use the ISO and burn it to a bootable DVd. Then use the DVD to do a clean reinstall.

  • 2nd Monitor Connected Via DVI to VGA Adapter is Blurry

I have a G4 dual 1.42 GHz (the last G4 model) and have an Apple 20" Cinema Display connected to the ADC port and a 21" CRT monitor connected to the DVI port via the DVI to VGA adapter supplied with the G4.
The CRT monitor display is blurry. I have tweaked display settings in System Preferences and the monitor's controls and nothing helps. I used this monitor in a dual monitor setup on a Power Mac 9600/300 and it was razor sharp, so I know that the monitor is okay. I could pull a display card from the old Power Mac 9600 since it's not being used anymore, but I hate to add another card to the G4 because of the heat problems. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm wondering, is it to be expected that the monitor connected to the DVI port via the DVI to VGA adapter won't look anywhere near as good as if it were connected to a separate graphics card? Thanks.

  • Brand new Macbook 13" - external display won't detect through mini dvi-dvi

As per title, it's a brand new Macbook 13" white plastic, (so version is whatever the recent model is.)
As the adaptors are an absolute rip-off, my brother posted me his old one, which he swears was working, and I have no reason to disbelieve him. I've not got another mac to test it on. If it IS the adaptor, then I'll just have to mortgage the house and buy a new one, but I'd like to rule out anything first...(why DO Apple insist on making what must be several thousand % markup on Chinese stuff when it's an essential thing that should have been provided with the Mac like they used to? Anyway....)
What happens is that it either flickers once, or just does nothing. Either way, it doesn't detect another display. Anything else I could or should try before I splash the cash?

How are you getting from miniDVI to HDMI? (adapter(s) type?)
Have you been able to test your macbook on another tv (or DVI monitor?)
It could be a software thing (e.g. related to a system update) as in this thread:
Macbook (Late 2007) External Display Not Working
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2055760&tstart=45
Or it could be something else entirely more mysterious:
Macbook stopped working with a certain specific display (external DVI)

  • No sound through mini DVI-HDMI adapter.

I've never had a problem hooking my Macbook Air up to my TV through the HDMI cable before.  I believe the change happened after updating to 10.8.2, but I can't be sure.  When I plug in the adapter, the picture goes through to the TV (just as before), and in the Sound settings panel it has the option for playing through the TV (just as before), but no sound.  Using the same adapter on a Macbook Pro running 10.7 - no problems.
Thanks for any help or tips in advance.

You already tried most of the steps to get this working, but I do suspect the ATI/AMD driver has somehow been corrupted.
You already tried the AMD drivers from HP's site, so I would give the drivers directly from AMD. Worst case scenario is it doesn't resolve the issue. The linked driver is what was returned when selecting the options for the notebook on AMD's driver page. Notebook>Radeon HD>Mobility Radeon HD 4XXX Series>Windows 7 64bit.
    Let me know what happens.

  • MacBook mini-dvi problem

Suddenly my mini-dvi port on my MacBook C2D 2.0 GHz White (late 2006) stopped working properly.
When I connect an LCD monitor using mini-dvi to vga adapter there is no signal but when I connect the monitor using mini-dvi to dvi adapter everything works fine. As far as I understand there is something wrong with the analog signal in my MacBook's mini-dvi port because the problem is definitely not in the mini-dvi to vga adapter as I bought a new one and the problem did not disappear.
I would appreciate any help. Is there any way to fix the problem besides replacing the logic board?

By the way, what I also found out is that when I connect display to my MB it even detects the name of the monitor, which can be seen in the display preferences. For example at work I use BenQ FP72E and when I connect it to my MB through mini-dvi to vga I can see the exact name of this monitor in display preferences but still there is no signal on the external monitor.

  • Mini dvi to rca or coaxial

    Hi,
I have a new macbook that used to have dvi plug and I could use the adapter to plug into rca or svideo. The plug is on the following website: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A
However, the new mac only has a mini dvi adapter, and I need to go to RCA/svideo/ or even coaxial. Can anybody recommend a product that would do this? I need to broadcast through mini dvi to coaxial cable from my macbook. Lots of adapters will work with the coaxial cable, but I'm having trouble getting it to connect to my mini dvi plug on the mac.
    Thanks

The new MacBook has a mini-DisplayPort connector, not a mini-DVI connector.
Verify what your connector looks like. Is it the DisplayPort connector below:
Older MacBooks have this mini DVI connector:
Some newer MacBook Pros have the former connector, while others have the connector that would allow this cable:
Which display connector does your machine have?
Also update your profile. MacBook and MacBook Pro are very different machines, and shouldn't be confused for each other.

  • Mini DVI to DVI adapter not working for MacBook BlackRAM upgrade for MacBook black (Early / Mid 2008 model - MB404LL/A)

    Hello.
I have recently purchased an external display monitor (LG D2342P LED) and I am trying to connect my MacBook black - MB404LL/A (Mac OS X 10.6.8, Core2Duo 2.4 GHz) to the LG LED monitor using mini DVI to DVI adapter. The dispay is getting detected by the macbook in the display preferences but the screen shows "No video input" ( as a blank-black that bahaves as no input coming to the Monitor).
Please help, what should I do to connect to the monitor ?  Is there any setting that I am missing that needs to be preconfigured or is this an issue with software update of 10.6.8 ?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, shldr2thewheel. I ll go ahead with the RAM specification you have mentioned.
Can you please suggest about the Hard Drive, what should be the specification I should be looking for compatibility of my MacBook black ?

  • Baffled by mini-DVI to HDMI problem

My Macbook is plugged into a LG lcd TV through mini dvi to HDMI. The Mac screen appears on the TV but without any of the icons that are on my desktop and does not change when I play a DVD or bring up photos on the Macbook. The mouse appears, but only when I move it off the Macbook screen. Anyone know if there is some easy trick I'm missing to set this up or is this as weird as it seems? Thanks.

    From Mac Help:
To connect multiple displays or a projector:
Turn off the displays and the computer.
For each display you want to use, connect a video cable (and adapter, if necessary) from the video output port on your computer or graphics card to the video input port on the display. Make sure the cables are securely connected or you may not be able to see an image on the display.
Turn on the displays and computer.
When you connect multiple displays, they show the same image (called “mirroring”). With some computers, you can also set your displays to extend the desktop, so a different section of your desktop is shown on each display. You can change this setting in the Arrangement pane of Displays preferences.

  • Dual display, 2nd monitor displays 3 of everything

I have ran 2 monitors before with no problems. Useing the lastest nVidia drivers with a Ti4200 128 I get 3 displays of everthing I put on the 2nd monitor. What I mean is when I slide a window over to the 2nd monitor it shows up 3 times. The device manager shows 4 monitors, the primary (Hitachi 751) and 3 default monitors. It doesn't mention the 15" NEC monitor that is my 2nd display. I have tried to uninstall them, but they keep coming back. I have unpluged the 2nd monitor and rebooted, no luck. There probably is some check box or setting that I am missing in the nVidia control panel.
I sure need some help,Thank You ..... VRB

    Hi,
This is probably NOT the answer, but if all else fails...
I've encountered problems when connecting an LCD monitor to the VGA output of a video card which is primarily set up for PAL TV out - so the Vertical and Horizontal rates on the VGA are presumably derived from the PAL H & V rates (50Hz and 15625Hz - the latter might be doubled on the VGA). Anyway, most of the LCD screens I have tried in this combination give multiple horizontally displaced images. On the other hand, CRT (picture tube) monitors generally seem OK.
So you could try changing the refress rate or resolution of the 2nd output, and see if it makes a difference.
Having said that, I think the problem is more related to the way your system thinks there are 3 extra monitors attached - in which case I haven't a clue  :(
    Good luck!

  • Dual monitors screen management after disconnecting 2nd monitor

I have a 2nd monitor attached to my iMac and if open an app Window on the 2nd monitor the next time I start the app the Window always defaults to the 2nd monitor (even if the 2nd monitor is turned off). Since I don't always remember that the app was opened on the 2nd monitor I would like a way to force the app to default to the primary monitor so I don't always need to turn on the 2nd monitor to move the Window to the primary monitor.
I have tried using spaces for this but it does not seem to work.

Oups.. I got it   Just switched the menu bar, when I shoud have switched displays... Mouse was moving to second monitor from left instead of right... Fixed.

  • 2nd monitor & app problem

i copied and pasted this from another mac forum... there was no reply. sometimes i have the same problem with apps such as cdxtract, battery 3 and Kontakt 3 in standalone mode.
Not Logic related but any ideas coz this can be very annoying if i forget to drag from 2nd monitor to the mac before hand.

The second screen is an extention of the primary screen and when you switch spaces, both will change to a different space.
There is a solution, but it requires associating the app with All spaces in System Preferences > Expose & Spaces > Spaces tab > Assign the app to Every Space.  Then as you can spaces that app is present on all spaces.
    Regards,
    Captfred
If you don't want the browser in the primary monitor for all spaces, then use two different browsers.  Safari for the primary browser and Firefox for the browser moved to external display.  Then define Firefox in all spaces and Safari to only one.
