2nd monitor / VGA to ADC

Hi
I have my G5 connect to Song Monitor via DCI port.
I like to add another monitor.
The monitor I got come with the VGA port and now I only have ADC port available.
How could I make it work?
1. can I connect the monitor VGA port to the VGA to DVI connector and then connect it to the DVI to ADC connector?
2. can I connect a Y cable which one side connect to the DVI and the other two come with VGA port?
3. can I use the video card from my G4 cube to the G5?
Any advice.
Thank you

As I said above, if the DVI port is already used by a DVI display, you should try to find an ADC to VGA adapter. Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone still making these adapters, so you need to search online or on eBay. They seem quite hard to find.
However, there are plenty of DVI to VGA adapters, including the one Apple sells.
So you if you really want to do this, you can get an ADC to DVI adapter, for example
http://www.drbott.com/prod/db.lasso?code=0136-ADDV
and connect the DVI display to your ADC port. Then get a DVI to VGA adapter, for example
http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8754G/A?mco=MTIxODk3Mw
and connect the VGA display to your DVI port.
And before buying, consider the total cost of acquiring these adapters against getting a newer better video card with two DVI ports. Or maybe getting an older Apple display with an ADC port.

I cannot connect my MacBook Air to a projector - It will not detect a 2nd monitor or display. I am using an Apple made Mini Display port to VGA adapter. As I read online I see that many other peple are having the same problem. Is this an Apple defect!!???? If so it just burst the bubble about how great macs are. I never had a problem with that on a PC. I hope I am wrong. What can you tell me?

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Can't run flash player in full screen on 2nd monitor

Hi all! I have a laptop with dual video displays. The main
display is the laptop's LCD and the 2nd display is a 19" LCD
connected via VGA cable. I want to let a Flash movie loop endlessly
on the second monitor while I continue to work on the laptop. When
I drag Flash Player 8 over to the 2nd monitor and start the movie,
I can hit maxmize and it will take up the entire 2nd montior as it
should...with the file options and boarder around as expected. I
then hit Ctrl-F to go full screen and it snaps directly to the
laptop's primary monitor. I tried it at work where my desktop has 2
displays and the same thing happens. I need to force Flash player
to run full screen on the 2nd monitor and cannot find a way to
accomplish this. Any help is appreciated because it's driving me
nuts. I can always make the external monitor my primary but then
the start button and all my icons move there too and that is not
    acceptable. Thanx!

Seriously? No one has any thoughts about this? I can't
believe I would be the first to come across this issue.

  • 2nd Monitor won't work

I bought a Pavillion p6210f last week with Win7 loaded to replace my Dell/Vista.  I was using two monitors with a VGA port and DVI port on the old PC, so I tried plugging in the same on my new HP and the DVI would not fit.  In examining the pins I found that, althought the Manual said DVI, but the plug has the pin/bar arrangement of a DVI-D.   So, I bought a VGAto DVI-D adapter and everything plugged in snuggly.  All pins and bar appear a match.
But, it won't work.  This is what is showing
NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller   HP RC Mirror Driver [Display adapter]
    NVIDIA GeForce 9100 [Display adapter]
    Acer P241W [Monitor] (24.0"vis, s/n LB4040014320, March 2008)the one working monitor....
After hours with the 800 support and hours of reversing the two Acer monitors, the DVI-D port is simply dead.  Anything plugged in to the VGA works fine, anything and any combination plugged into the DVI-D and cable switching etc. the 2nd monitor  is not even recoginized.  The NVIDIA control panel doesn't recognize it. The amber power light just stays that way and nothing ever flashes on the 2nd screen.  That is, it is the same as not plugging in at all.
I was less than pleased when 800 tech and supervisor suggested I take it to a repair center.  A week old?  I have put way too much setup and data transfer into the new HP to go back to the retailer for a replacement.
Techs didn't know, but could there be a DVI-X with the same pins that also fits

Eldric, did you update to the latest video driver from nVidia?  It sounds to me like a driver problem.  Update and let us know if that solves your problem.

  • Mac Pro 3.1 (early 2008) lags since I connected a 2nd monitor - HELP!!

    Hey guys,
I just bought a 2nd monitor and i have lags every 5 seconds which
last about half a second (feels like 10 or less fps during the lag).
It happens with all kinds of applications. It gets worse with multiple
applications openend at a time. The crazy thing is that it only occurs
when i start to use both monitors at the same time. When i e.g. use
Logic 9.1 and use one monitor everything runs nice and smoothely
but as soon as i move the window slowly to the 2nd monitor i can
see the window lagging while I'm moving it. This is really annoying
because it seems not every input from the mouse/keyboard gets
into the system and its not a smooth workflow at all.
I switched the monitors connections but it didn't help.
    Mac Pro (Early 2008) 2.8Ghz 8-core
    Snow Leopoard ( 10.6.2 )
6GB RAM (2x2gb kingston, and the usual 2x1gb)
    ATI 2600XT and 3 HDD.
    1 Monitor 24" LG W2452T running at 1920 x 1200
    1 Monitor 22" Samsung Syncmaster 2243BW running at 1680 x 1050
I really hope that you guys can help me out with this one.
What could be the problem? The ATI 2600XT should definately
be able to handle two screens at once with such little graphics
    in logic 9 ?!
I want to run Logic 9 and an analyzer software (Spectre from AudiofileEngineering)
at the same time but its not possible with the LAG.
The problem/lags also occur when i sync the monitors.
Would a 2nd graphics card be a solution? But as I said
before its not a graphics demanding application.
Is it a hardware or software problem?
    Summary:
    - The whole System lags (not just one monitor) when
I start to use both monitors (having application windows on both).
I've got minor lags when using only one display and leave the
2nd one with the desktop wallpaper clean.
    I tried:
-using only the 2x1 GB RAM which came with the mac pro
-using only the 2x2 GB Kingston RAM
Thank you in advance for your help guys!
    Rick

    Hey all,
I wasn't able to fix this yet.
I did everything I can think of. I even tried to wire
one monitor with a VGA cable but it didn't help.
I even have small lags when I am moving the Safari window
between the 2 monitors. Really little lags then but they
definitely are noticeable. I can make a video of that
if that would help someone understanding.
Hope there is someone out there who can help me with this.
    Thanks already for any advice!
    Cheers,
    Rick
Edit: Do you think a new graphics card like the ATI 4870 would
help it? But I really don't want to spend more money just to
have 2 monitors while i have already 2 dvi connections on the
    ati 2600XT.

  • What cable do I need to connect a 2nd Monitor from the thunderbolt port?

Hi I have got one of the brand new iMac's with thunderbolt ports - what cable do I need to connect my Imac to a 2nd display either VGA or DVI - also is there a budget version about as well as I am sure its going to cost a lot from the apple store

Thanks I understand that I need another cable and have that from when I connected my old PC to the 2nd monitor.
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY  - is this the one I need if going to DVI
I just dont want to waste more money on a cable that says its for an imac to 2nd screen and find it doesnt fit
For info my iMAC is the latest version (27" with the 2 thunderbolt connections and 1 firewire)
    Thanks

  • IMac does not detect correct resolution of 2nd monitor

I am attempting to use my 42" LG HDTV as a 2nd monitor for my iMac. The native resolution for the LG is 1920x1080 but the iMac only allows me to select up to 1600x1200. It seems to think that the LG is a smaller screen than the iMac as well and my images are stretched. The monitors are also disproportionate, for example, if I expand a window so that there is an inch of space on all 4 sides on my iMac it will overwhelm the screen of the larger monitor so that only about 2/3 of the window is visible. It's as if the iMac thinks that the LG is in 4:3 display mode.
I am using a mini-DVI to VGA adapter. How can I get full resolution from my 2nd monitor?

The (analog) VGA connection is limiting your resolution. Idealy a (digital) Mini-DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI cable should allow the full resolution in Extended Desktop Mode.

  • Best 2nd Monitor For 21.5 Mid 2010

I'm looking for a nice 2nd monitor to accompany my 21.5 iMac. Right now im using my old 19" VGA connected with a mini HDMI to VGA adapter, and to be honest it's like Janet Reno sitting next to Kyra Knightly.
So does anyone have any suggestions for a better pairing? Not too expensive.
    Thanks

    Joseph,
There are thousands of monitors to choose from, I'd recommend visiting your local computer store and looking around for one that has the features you are looking for. Picking one for you is really difficult on a help forum.

  • Connecting a 2nd monitor to my 27" iMac

Hi All, I am looking to buy a 2nd monitor to go with my 27" 2.9 GHZ iMac (purchased May 2013) and wandered if anyone could provide some advice on the best way to connect it through a thunderbolt port and is there anything I must ensure the new monitor has or certain specifiction. i am looking to buy a 27" monitor to sit aside my current one. Thanks in advance for any help.

Unless it's an Apple Thunderbolt display or some other Thunderbolt disply you simply connect a MiniDisplay port to (VGA, DVI or HDMI) depending on what the external display has and connect it up. The System Preferences - Diskplays and setup the setting the way you want. This is the ONLY way it will work. There are hundreds of Youtube videos that show you how, here is one example:

  • Connecting a 2nd monitor

I want to buy either a Dell or BenQ 2nd monitor for my mac book pro.. are these monitors compatible??

    http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/features.html
On the new MBPs, they have a Mini DisplayPort, which supports VGA, HDMI and DVI outputs. You could get the Apple LED Cinema Display - it might be a little more expensive but it'll definitely work with the new MBPs.
BTW, it'd be handy if you put your system details in the text boxes above the 'post message' button when you put something in this forum...that way we'll know what you're running without you having to keep typing it in all the time.

  • Imac not recognizing 2nd monitor

On cold startup,  why do I always need to unplug and replug thunderbolt mini display to vga adapter for imac to see second monitor ?
Once I do this, the 2nd monitor is recognized.  If I restart, 2nd monitor is recognized.
thanks.. I am worried that the port will be compromised with all the unplug/replugs.
Btw... the "detect displays" function doesn't resolve this issue.

    Hi John,
I really have no idea, but as a test, hold alt key at cold startup, let it set on that screen for maybe a minute or two, then click the startup volume or hit enter... any change?
Also, if you log out & back in does it show up?

  • A 2nd monitor.

I have an iMac(24") and wish to connect a 2nd monitor.... have had this kind of setup at jobs and find it very useful. Is this possible, and I'm considering a 24" Apple monitor. Appears to have 3 cables to hook up and I'm running out of USB connections.

The 24-inch Apple "LED" Cinema Display uses a Mini DisplayPort connector, so you need to have one of the recent Macs that have a Mini DisplayPort. For iMacs, the models introduced March 2009 and the current iMacs have that Mini DisplayPort. The 2008 model and earlier Intel iMacs have a Mini-DVI port; those iMacs will not be able to use the new Apple 24-inch display.
If your iMac has a mini-DVI port, you can use any DVI display, up to 1920x1200 resolution (which is the resolution of your iMac's built-in display). You need this adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9321G/B
or a third-party equivalent. There are also adapters that go to VGA and HDMI.
If your iMac has a Mini DisplayPort (not Mini-DVI) and you want to use a non-Apple DVI display, this is the adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A
and to use Apple's 24-inch display, you do not need any adapter.
Note: That USB connection is for the built-in USB hub on the Apple display.

  • 2nd Monitor Cable

Looking for a "clean" video cable for adding 2nd monitor to 24" iMac.
The back of the computer faces the world. Would like to have short
12-18" monitor cable (dreaming) and not have to use Apples adapter attached to 6' folded up vga video cable. And of course white would be nice.
Second choice would be the Apple adapter and just a short male/male vga cable.
    thanks
    john thorne

I don't think you'll have any luck avoiding the mini-DVI adapter, but here's
a source for male/male VGA cables in various lengths -- unfortunately,
    nothing short AND white.

  • 2nd Monitor issue

I've been using a 2nd Monitor (ViewSonic 1080p) with my MacBook for several years.  After recent upgrade to Snow Leopard, MacBook no longer recognizes the 2nd monitor in the Preferences.  Monitor/cables are fine and work with another laptop OK. Do I need a software upgrade?, or will I be forced to purchase an Apple monitor.  Puzzled

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion p6-2029uk Desktop Computer. According to the specs this model has Intergrated AMD HD Graphics that have been disabled by the factory installed discrete PCI Express x16 AMD Radeon HD 6450. The DVI-D port and VGA port behind the "plastic covers" will not work unless the discrete graphics card is removed.
    Assuming the discrete AMD Radeon HD 6450 card has a DVD-I port and an HDMI port, you should be able to connect the monitors as follows;
    Computer > HDMI-to-DVI cable > HP 2011 monitor
Computer > DVI-to-VGA adapter > VGA cable > secondary monitor
    Alternatively, you could remove the discrete AMD Radeon HD 6450 card and use the integrated onboard DVI-D and VGA ports as follows;
Computer > DVI cable > HP 2011 monitor
Computer > VGA cable > secondary monitor

  • Thinkpad T440s freezes with 2nd monitor via dock

Hi there - I have a strange problem with my Thinkpad T440s:
Connecting a 2nd monitor directly (VGA) works like a charm, however putting the Thinkpad into the docking station (with the 2nd monitor connected to the dock) freezes the system. Without the 2nd monitor the dock is working fine. When booting with the 2nd monitor connected to the dock, both screens stay black as soon as the kernel loads.
Is this a known problem / any ideas? Can I somehow help fixing this problem?
I know that I'm not the only one since I have found other people reporting this here: http://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/165520 … -und-Linux
They also provided an xorg.log (http://pastebin.com/Qk7nHVwt) which shows nothing suspicious, I guess...

Same issue with my T440p. Happens with VGA, DP & HDMI (haven't tested DVI) on the dock. Undocking unfreezes it. If X is running the X server freezes and consumes 20% CPU, if none is running a kworker process does that. Even with no monitor attached it will freeze when the builtin monitor wakes up from sleep (again, undocking helps).
Here's a stack trace from the frozen X (^C'd while it was frozen from waking up the display, gdb only reacted again after undocking):

Edit: "Solved" by returning the laptop. This issue plus the loud (and not well-controllable) fan and the lack of support for the fingerprint sensor (different from previous ThinkPad models, it's from Validity Sensors) just aren't worth the trouble.
