2nd monitor W2072a suddenly has no signal

2nd monitor W2072a suddenly has no signal, tried switching cables & rebooting but box comes up states Scanning then No Signal.  I desperately need help since the only way I can use a computer is with 2 monitors due to a disability

Hi ToniClark,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you have issues with your secondary monitor. What happens if you disconnect the first monitor that is currently work and just hook up the W2072a by itself? If it works then we know it is something with your computer system and if it still fails then their could be a problem with the monitor.

  • IPhone suddenly has no signal.

I have a iPhone 3g 8GB on 02-UK. It was working fine until about 10am GMT this morning. After trying to send a text it failed and I received a no signal service message in the top left. I thought ok, maybe the tower died or its restarting or something so left it until I was leaving work at 5pm. Still it had no service. I have rebooted the phone both software and hard resets, restored and cleaned all settings. Even tried to wipe the phone and restore to Apple's Stock 3.0.1 (I deleted the IPSW I had in my iTunes Library folder to ensure iTunes re-downloaded one. Still it shows no signal. The phone popped up to say waiting for activation but 30 mins on nothing has happened. I have tried 3 different sims in it which I know to have worked beforehand but now all of them just have the tiniest amount of signal and 2 show the 3G symbol. All calls fail and I have not received anything to either sim while they have been plugged into the phone.
Any help!? Should I just take it in and get Genius guys to look or has anyone got anything I can try here at home?

O2 has had 'problems' (as have all iPhone 3G networks) from time to time.
Changing SIMs is one of the worst things that you can do: it confuses the phone AND the network! Personally I would not mess with anything at .ipsw level unless I really had exhausted all other options AND had tried a Genius without success - there is so much 'good' advice out there, but little 'useful' advice, don't you feel?
Why not try an Apple Store and let them 'sort you out'?
    Good luck!

  • Lost video on 2nd monitor after 10.10.3 update

Howdy.  Upgraded my main mac pro to Yosemite 10.10.3 this morning and find that video on a 2nd monitor (verified good) has gone away.  It seems to be a driver issue.  This is with a Radeon 5770.  It is still driving my main monitor without any problem, however, the 2nd is not getting signal and does not show in system profiler.
The monitor and cable/adapter chain has been checked and verified all the way to the card.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Eric.
Thanks for providing the easily accessible link with standard OP information.  I have reset PRAM and undergone all other hardware and software checks.  There is nothing wrong with the cabling, card, or monitor.
I can boot into earlier versions of the OS, going back to 10.5.  ALL except for 10.10.3 produce NTSC video on my Radeon 5770 as a 2nd monitor.  Something about the 10.10.3 update broke the 2nd display.  The problem is specific to 10.10.3 and no other versions of the OS.
I suspect a bug was introduced regarding multiple-display setups (I have 3) with 10.10.3, OR the feature set for multiple displays was changed without notice.  However, I can't seem to find a way to connect to apple support to investigate the issue without paying a service fee for the privilege.  I was really hoping I could get some actual insight into the issue, as I'm familiar with all standard troubleshooting and software issues.  I have, after all, but using Macs since 1987...
    Cheers.

  • My Mac Pro (2006) has suddenly stopped sending signal to the display monitor.

My Mac Pro (2006) has suddenly stopped sending signal to the display monitor. It coincided with plugging in an Epson printer via usb - while the system was running. Pretty dumb maybe? Could I have damaged the video card? Anyone ideas? Thanks

    Howdy Le Batch,
I was looking into the issue you are seeing here, and came across a helpful article for this specific situation. It's named Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays and can be found here:
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
If more than one video adapter is in use—or "daisy-chained"—troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • No signal at 2nd Monitor -MBP

I'm using Macbook Pro1.83Ghz (1st gen) with Sony "SDM-M81" as 2nd monitor. It work fine with Leopard. After upgraded to snow leopard, successfully, The monitor showed that there was no signal. Even i try to change the resolution, it didnt work.
One thing that I noticed, when I use Leopard, the external monitor Display profile was "VGA Display" but when it under Snow Leopard, it changed to "SDM-M81", (I used extend monitor function and gather this window setting)
Any suggestion to solve this problem? Thank you.

    I'm having the same issue.
There is not signal detected on my BenQ monitor, and it is not detected in my display prefs either. When I connect the cable, my MacBook monitor goes blue, as if it has been detected, but then nothing. Similarly on the BenQ monitor, it recognises the cable is attached but is not receiving a signal.
I read on another forum about driver problems, but this can't be the case for everyone?

  • Windows 10 shows the 2nd monitor has 1920x1080 but actually it is 50% less around 1080x840

The resolution of the 2nd monitor, a Vizio VF551XVT 55-inch 1920x1080 HDTV connected through HDMI cable, shows 1920x1080 (Recommended) on the Windows 10’s Display Screen Resolution setting utility but the true resolution of the 2nd monitor is less than 50%; around 1080x840. All applications on the 2nd monitor displayed their header & boarder frames twice wider on screen, which waste/occupy lots of the 2nd monitor’s display area. Please advise how to correct this critical lower than the set/expected resolution problem of th 2nd monitor.  Thanks. The 1st/primary monitor in this case is a mobile PC Display (1920x1080), Lenovo Z710 Intel i7 4710MQ notebook with NVIDIA 840M GPU. Previously running under the Windows 8.1 OS with the same configuration, the 2nd monitor resolution was also displayed incorrectly but just initially right after the Windows 8.1 reboot, i.e. 2nd monitor shows 1920x1080 resolution but actually the 2nd monitor is about the same as Windows 10, the actual resolution is much/50% fewer than 1920x1080. However, the resolution of the 2nd monitor (HDTV) under Windows 8.1 can be corrected (worked around) by switching the main display from 1st to 2nd monitor, then switching main display back from 2nd to 1st, but such Win 8.1 work around doesn't work for Windows 10 OS . Also, please advise whether Lenovo, MS Windows or NVIDIA is responsible for the displays re-position issue. The re-position issue is, when a TV, PC, shared 2nd monitor is disconnected to watching TV, etc., Windows OS currently moves all the display positions, both active and minimized displays, from 2nd monitor to 1st/main monitor, but ideally would be just moving/re-position the active displays to the main/1st monitor and maintain/leave those minimized display positions intact, so when 2nd monitor reconnects back (done watching TV), user doesn’t need to re-align all the displays back to 2nd monitor again. Thanks for helps.

If you won't lose anything and if it is not a big hassle, I would re-install.
Mainly because Win 10 TP is, after all, a beta OS. Too many possibilities of bugs and glitches. It is better off to reinstall.
The latest build 9879 has a ISO download link. Use the ISO and burn it to a bootable DVd. Then use the DVD to do a clean reinstall.

  • Windows xp extended desktop not showing up on 2nd monitor all of a sudden

I've used a 2nd monitor as my main monitor for my T61.  I powered down today to move to another location, when I reconnected to my usual 2nd monitor, the screen just comes up blue, the cursor jumps between my 2 monitors, but there is no Windows coming up on the external monitor 2.  Usually everything boots up automatically to both of my monitors.......I've gone into Windows XP display settings, extended the desktop - but still nothing - just blue with the cursor either on my laptop monitor 1 or jumping over to external monitor 2.  Help?

    Try this:
    1. Go to Display Settings and set the Display to setting 1. (Multiple Monitors) and exit settings.
    2. Press Fn and F7 until BOTH Monitors are Shown.
    3. You shouuld be able to select  Either or  Both Monitors in Sequence.
I replaced my BIOS Battery and had the same problem.

  • IPhoto window suddenly moves to 2nd monitor

This only happens when iPhoto is open on my primary monitor which is the built in screen on my 27" iMac.  When I click on a photo the application will often partially minimize and then jump to the external monitor.
Seperate issue - after exiting full screen the application keeps running but is not on either monitor.  I looked and it is also not running on a different virtual desktop (can't recall what apple calls this).  The only way to get it back is to close iPhoto and reopen.
iPhoto does not act up with the 2nd monitor disconnected.  Other applications do not behave this way.
    Thanks!  Taylor

    hmmm...
i can move the mouse freely between the 2 monitors, going above the menubar to the ext. monitor.
just sometimes, a window won't move up (safari happens mostly; stuck at menubar...)
    any other thoughts, anyone?

  • Adding 2nd monitor

I am trying to hook up 2nd monitor to my desktop. It has 2 dvi plugs. I have dvi to vga adapters on both plugs . The top plug puts out signal to monitor but the bottom does not.  I swiched monitors to the plugs and still just the top plug will support a monitor. Any idea if the bottm plug is a dummy plug and needs a video card or how would i find that out?

Thank you for the additional information.
Both DVI ports can be used at the same time:
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card or an Intel processor ending with “P” is installed.
A processor that supports graphics is required for integrated graphics to be enabled.
Integrated graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (DX10.1)
Either integrated graphics or the PCI Express x16 slot are usable at one time; they are not usable concurrently.
Use of both DVI ports at the same time is supported.
If you have a local retailer who sells the adapters it would be a good idea to buy another one.  If it doesn't work you can always return it.  There is no other reason that you shouldn't get output from the port.
If you want to increase the performance of your system you could install a dedicated video card.  This would require a power supply unit (PSU) upgrade, also.

  • Pavilion Slimline 400-034 Windows 8 not detecting 2nd Monitor

Hello, I have a Windows HP computer, and I recently bought a 2nd monitor for my birthday, link click here. I have the same monitor for my first, and that works perfectly fine, when I bought the 2nd monitor, I realized I have a different port, and it's not a DVI-I, it's a DVI-D. So I bought a VGA to DVI-D connector, so I plugged my VGA into the connector and then plug the DVI-D into the tower. I turned on my computer, and the 2nd monitor wasn't detected, the DVI-D connected one, but the first one was. The monitor was set into mode auto, so it detected any working inputs, DVI, VGA, HDMI, and another. The 2nd monitor works thought while into the DVI-I port, but neither work in the DVI-D port. Any help (: ??

    Here are the specs for you HP Pavilion Slimline 400-034 Desktop Computer and here is the user guide for your Insignia™ - 24" LED HD "NS-24EM51A14" Monitors. Based on the specs of your computer, it has one DVI-D (digital only) output and one DVI-I (digital and analog) output as shown below;
    #3 - DVI-D (digital only)                     #4 - DVI-I (digital and analog)
    According the user guide for your Insignia monitors... VGA, DVI-D, and HMDI inputs are available. Using a passive DVI-to-VGA adapter will work on the DVI-I port because it supplies both digital and analog signals. Using a passive DVI-to-VGA adapter will NOT work on the DVI-D port because it only supplies digital signals. Please remove both DVI-to-VGA adapters and VGA cables and replace them both with DVI-D cables. You can purchase these cables online and at most local retail store such as Fry's, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Radio Shack, Staples, Newegg, Office Depot, etc. Once you have purchased two DVI-D cables, please connect your hardware as follows;
    Computer ---> DVI-D cable ---> Monitor #1
    Computer ---> DVI-D cable ---> Monitor #2

  • Can't run flash player in full screen on 2nd monitor

Hi all! I have a laptop with dual video displays. The main
display is the laptop's LCD and the 2nd display is a 19" LCD
connected via VGA cable. I want to let a Flash movie loop endlessly
on the second monitor while I continue to work on the laptop. When
I drag Flash Player 8 over to the 2nd monitor and start the movie,
I can hit maxmize and it will take up the entire 2nd montior as it
should...with the file options and boarder around as expected. I
then hit Ctrl-F to go full screen and it snaps directly to the
laptop's primary monitor. I tried it at work where my desktop has 2
displays and the same thing happens. I need to force Flash player
to run full screen on the 2nd monitor and cannot find a way to
accomplish this. Any help is appreciated because it's driving me
nuts. I can always make the external monitor my primary but then
the start button and all my icons move there too and that is not
    acceptable. Thanx!

Seriously? No one has any thoughts about this? I can't
believe I would be the first to come across this issue.

  • MacBook Pro performance issues w/2nd monitor and FCP7

I have this MacBook Pro bought brand-new in January 2010:
      Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 6 MB
      Memory: 8 GB
      Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
and until today had never attached a second monitor to it. Today I hooked up my Samsung 24" to do some dual screen editing in Final Cut 7.0.3. I was unable to play back my video at full speed in the second monitor, and after a few seconds of skippy playback I'd get that error message about unable to play back video at full speed and to check my RT settings. I was using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. My computer has no issues playing the video in the laptop's monitor at any resolution and any quality settings (I've never changed the RT settings or anything else in the menu ever but I tried every combination this time). I then tried using my TV as a 2nd monitor with an HDMI adapter. Same performance issues. I then tried my friend's newer 13" MBP 8,1 and it performed flawlessly with the same project & footage. I feel like my $3,000 computer should outperform a $1,200 one even if mine is a year and a half older. Any advice?
    Chris

Wow, you posted this perfectly to coincide with an identical problem, albeit using Logic Pro 9.1.5 rather than FCP.
Last week, I purchased a 23" external monitor to use alongside my "flagship" 2011 15" hi-res, 2.3 i7 Macbook Pro with 8Gb of RAM.
It is connected via a mini-DVI to D-sub analog (not that that should matter?) and all appeared fine.
The first issue I had was with my MBP's fan now running CONSTANTLY, when I have the second monitor attached. Even when the machine is completely idle.
When using the machine to record audio, this is a fairly hefty problem and not something I had anticipated - indeed why would I anticipate such a thing?
What is far, far worse though is that over the last few days I have had repeated problems with performance drop-outs and errors in Logic and I have trying to fathom out why. Realising that the only major system change made, was the above monitor connection, I ran some tests.
I restarted my MBP, no other apps were running and with my new 23" monitor attached acting as main display with MBP built in display on as secondary
I loaded up a fairly demanding Logic project which was hitting 40% to 60% CPU usage when using the built in MBP display last week
I ran activity monitor and had CPU usage history open
The above project now repeatedly overloads and playback halts in a given 8 bar section - with CPU at 80% most of the time
I disconnected the external display, no shut down, I just let the machine switch to the built in 15".
Started the same project, the same 8 bar section and hey presto - CPU usage back down to 40% to 60%
The above was reflected in the CPU usage history with the graph showing CPU use down by about a half, when running this Logic project WITHOUT the external display.
There is a very useful benchmark Logic project that has been used as a test by many users to gauge Logic performance on given Apple hardware.
The project has about 100 tracks pre-configured with CPU intensive plugins, designed to tax the CPU.
The idea is that you load up the project with tracks muted, press play and then unmute the tracks steadily until Logic us unable to play contiunously because of a system performance error.
On my MBP, with the external monitor NOT attached, I can play back around 50 of the audio tracks in this benchmark project.
With the monitor attached, I can get about 22 tracks playing.... which is actually a far worse a performance drop (-50% I think!?) than with the first example!
I did also try with just the external monitor attached and not the MBP display and performance was about 10% better than with dual monitors - so still extremely poor, to say the least.
This machine is the flagship MBP and has a dedicated AMD Radeon HD6750 GPU which should take care of most if not ALL graphics processing - I mean it's capable of running some pretty demanding games!
Putting aside the issue of constant fan noise, there is no reason AT ALL, why using an external monitor should tax the i7 CPU this way - it's not as though Logic is graphically demanding... far from it.
I am on 10.6.8, Logic 9.1.5, all apps up to date via "Software Update".
I will of course, be contacting Apple...

  • Why does a DVI or VGA look better than HDMI for 2nd Monitor

Why does a DVI or VGA connection for a program monitor look better than HDMI. I've tested this on several systems with CS5x and CS6. The full screen output from premiere definitely looks worse with HDMI.
I can often see visual differences with the Windows GUI as well, over sharpening of text and lines, harsh rendering of gradients. It looks like a VGA signal displayed on a television.
I've looked at the NVidia stetting and it appears to be set to 1920x1080 at 60hz either way, DVI or HDMI. On one Acer 20 inch monitor the was VGA, HDMI, Composite, Component, and Digital Tuner, but no DVI. The program monitor has always looked blah from the HDMI. So I recently switched the connection to a DVI to VGA adaptor, and now the video looks so much better.
    Any thoughts or explanations?

Just because the monitors accept a 1080P signal doesn't mean their native resolution is 1920x1080. At 20 inch they very likely can scale that signal down to the native resolution of the panel which may be 1600 x 900 or another resolution that is 16 x 9 resolution. That scaling can be done by the GPU or firmware on the Monitor depending on the video driver options and the firmware options. That scaling is also the most common cause to text and icon blurriness you are talking about. As an example there are Pro monitors that accept a 4K signal but scale it down to 2.5K or 2K on the actual panel. You might try going into your video card settings such as Nvidia control panel and look for the scaling options. Select GPU scaling and see if the preview is better. If that doesn't work select no scaling and see if it's better if the monitor firmware handles the scaling.

  • 2nd Monitor won't work

I bought a Pavillion p6210f last week with Win7 loaded to replace my Dell/Vista.  I was using two monitors with a VGA port and DVI port on the old PC, so I tried plugging in the same on my new HP and the DVI would not fit.  In examining the pins I found that, althought the Manual said DVI, but the plug has the pin/bar arrangement of a DVI-D.   So, I bought a VGAto DVI-D adapter and everything plugged in snuggly.  All pins and bar appear a match.
But, it won't work.  This is what is showing
NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller   HP RC Mirror Driver [Display adapter]
    NVIDIA GeForce 9100 [Display adapter]
    Acer P241W [Monitor] (24.0"vis, s/n LB4040014320, March 2008)the one working monitor....
After hours with the 800 support and hours of reversing the two Acer monitors, the DVI-D port is simply dead.  Anything plugged in to the VGA works fine, anything and any combination plugged into the DVI-D and cable switching etc. the 2nd monitor  is not even recoginized.  The NVIDIA control panel doesn't recognize it. The amber power light just stays that way and nothing ever flashes on the 2nd screen.  That is, it is the same as not plugging in at all.
I was less than pleased when 800 tech and supervisor suggested I take it to a repair center.  A week old?  I have put way too much setup and data transfer into the new HP to go back to the retailer for a replacement.
Techs didn't know, but could there be a DVI-X with the same pins that also fits

Eldric, did you update to the latest video driver from nVidia?  It sounds to me like a driver problem.  Update and let us know if that solves your problem.
