2nd recovery disk won't start on a HP G61

HP G61 with windows 7 64-bit.. replaced hard drive new from HP...the 1st recovery disk runs fine and ask to load 2nd disk,,but when i load the 2nd disk it starts then stops, starts and stops a few more times and then nothing just sit with same message on screen.

Hi:
If you can't get the recovery disks to work, and you can read the 25 character W7 product key on the bottom of your PC, then you can make your own W7 installation DVD and install W7 using that.
Here's how:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Satellite P300-18m - Recovery disk won't start up

    Hi,
I did order the recovery disk, but it won't start up, so I still cannot erase my harddisk.
    So far i have tried:
    - starting and press f8
    - starting and press c
    - starting and press 0
I have already changed my boot order, but my laptop still won't start from CD. At the support page I have found many ways to fix it, but nothing works. It also seems like the cd/dvd isn't recognized.
Does anyone know what I can do now? Thanks for helping :)
    Grtz Kim

    Hey,
What notebook model you have exactly?
Normally you can start from Toshiba recovery disk if you enter the BIOS boot menu and select CD/DVD drive as boot device. Then press ENTER and the computer will boot from the disk. The key combinations that you mentioned like F8, c, etc. doesnt work, they are for HDD recovery.
    > It also seems like the cd/dvd isn't recognized
Is the drive recognized in BIOS?

  • Imac 27-inch 10.9 recovery disk will not start

    hello everyone,
I am having boot up problems on my imac 27-inch.
I pressed the power button and press and held the Option key, I chose the
Recovery disk, but the Recovery disk did not start, instead I have the grey Apple logo and it keeps running but will not start.
The imac 27-inch was bought refurbished in late 2010
I also have imac apple care from 2010 never used. First time problem.
On pressing the Option key during startup,
Mach Hard disk and Recovery Disk 10.9 is displayed.
Choosing mac hard disk does not boot up the OS instead I get a big Zero sign with line through it or a big flash question mark sign.
Choosing the Recovery Disk 10.9 does not boot up Disk Utility, instead I get the grey Apple logo.
    Please help. Thanks.

Your Recovery HD is damaged. You may be able to repair it using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.5.4. Under the Windowm menu select Disk Center. Select your boot volume from the list. Click on the Recovery HD tab then click on the Create a Recovery volume for this disk. Select Mavericks from the dropdown menu labeled "Recovery HD version to be applied." See if that works. If it does not then see Update - Create Lion RecoveryHD Partition Quickly Without Reinstalling | brunerd. Or see Recovery Partition Creator 3.7 – Updated for Mavericks ...

  • Windows Vista Home Premium Recovery Disks won't work

Have original disks for this Toshiba A215.  The hard drive failed so put in new hard drive. Got the missing boot manager message. so a tecn person used a cd and reformated the new hard drive. Still wouldn't run the recovery disks to install to factory defaults.  the Windows Vista sticker still on the computer with the activation code. So borrowed an install disk from a friend, but won't activate. Says it's not a valid activation code.  and still won't recognize my recovery disks. starts to run the recovery program then gives message - cannot enumerate.  What does it want to enumerate??

    cannot enumerate.
Try resetting the BIOS from AHCI mode to IDE or Compatibility or whatever you find there.
Most likely the trouble is caused by a hard disk with advanced-format technology. After restoring, there will be more to do.
Which Satellite A215? Always tell us that. There is a label on the bottom.

  • Recovery Disks won't install to new HD

    Hello, all,
My laptop froze up last week and wouldn't boot to the OS. Laptop is an HP Pavillion g6-1b60us, running Windows 7. I've tried a number of things, including a new hard drive, the recovery partition, recovery CDs, standard OS install discs, and testing the HD and memory in BIOS. All efforts are detailed below, sorry for the length, but I'm in Day 8 of trying to fix this.
I first tried restoring from the recovery partition, but after restoring, it told me on start up it couldn't find the boot manager.
I then tried installing Windows Vista from a standalone install CD (not an upgrade). Managed to boot it to Vista doing this, but when I tried to upgrade to Windows 8, the computer wouldn't complete the install on reboot.
I then ordered recovery disks from HP. Same problem as recovering from the recovery partition.
I opened up the computer and reseated the hard drive and ram.
I then used the BIOS to test the hard drive and the memory. Memory test came back fine, hard drive came back with an error.
Bought a new hard drive, same size, same brand. (500GB) I tried using the recovery disks to install the OS on the new drive. I consistently got errors saying files could not be copied to the hard drive in the first step.
Then tried installing Windows Vista, also got errors saying it wouldn't copy over.
Tested the hard drive in the BIOS, came back fine.
I then tried installing the OS to the original hard drive and cloning the drive to the new drive in Linux. This failed as well. For reference, the computer will run Linux perfectly using a USB drive.
I'm now at the end of my rope. Is there a chance the new drive is just a lemon and picking up a new one will fix this? Is there something with the recovery CDs that make them reject new drives? Any advice anyone has would be very helpful.
    Thanks in advance!

Got a new hard drive (same size, different brand). Installed perfectly.
For some reason, the new HGST 500GB travelstar just wouldn't work, which is odd since the original is a Hitachi as well. The drive worked fine as an external, etc, and tested fine, so who knows. Kept getting the error "failed to create E:\sdv.flg".
Got it running just fine on a  Toshiba 500gb.

  • I'm trying to install a new hard drive on my Touchsmart but the recovery disks won't boot.

The Touchsmart 300-1120 is only 1.5 years old and it's hard drive is already fried.  I bought a new hard drive, ordered the recovery disks, and it still won't boot.  I've changed the boot order to go from the CD drive first, but all it does is click and then give the same error message it gave when the fired hard drive was in.  I checked the diagnostic, and it can see the new hard drive...it just won't boot.

Sometimes they do work - i've done it before.  I have a late 2008 Macbook Uni and used the install dvd of my 2009 Macbook White and it worked.
Why not just clone your hard drive?  It'll save you a lot of time doing a clone rather than doing a clean install.
Unless you're having issues with your old set up or  your old hard drive is dead.
You can download Carbon Copy Cloner - install your new hard drive in a external usb enclosure (around $10) and clone fromt here then test it before you install it in your Macbook.
Once you've done the swap, you can install your old hard drive in the USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive.
    Good luck

  • USB recovery disk won't restore System Image - U410 internal harddrives don't load? Error 0x80042414

Hello all. My name's Richard and I have a problem.
My U410 was stolen (bastards!) on Christmas Eve (double bastards!) but I had an old System Image saved on an external hard drive. So I bought exactly the same laptop second-hand intending to restore the image.
However, when I try to restore it via Control Panel, after the restart the computer tells me I have to do the restore process from a Windows System Repair disc instead, because it needs to reformat the drive that the Restore Environment is running from. Obviously, the U410 doesn't have a CD drive, so I made a Windows 7 64 bit USB restore drive, and moved the USB drive up in my boot list so I can boot from it.
This lets me get to the stage of selecting my system image from the external hard drive. The restore process starts for three seconds, then I get error 0x80042414: the system cannot find the drives onto which the image should be copied.
I've done some digging around and used diskpart to discover that the two internal hard drives aren't loading / aren't visible when I boot from the USB. When I run diskpart from windows I have four disks: the USB, the external hard drive, an 8GB one which I guess is the SSD and the 698GB HDD. When I navigate to the command promt in the Recovery Environment diskpart only lists the USB and the external hard drive.
So I'm thinking that the internal drives aren't loading up for some reason when I boot from the USB. Is there any way round this? I've tried the 'load drivers' function in the Recovery Environment but even when i save all drivers listed for the internal hard drives onto the boot USB key, then navigate to them and try to load them, each one just returns "the selected file contains nothing about your hardware".
I'd be so grateful for any help. I was so sad when my laptop was stolen, so happy when I discovered the system image, so sad when I found out I needed exactly the same computer, so happy when I found one online, and now.... i'm emotionally exhausted.
    Thanks guys,
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
I'm sorry you had to go through some pretty emotional trauma with your U410 getting stolen and all. However, I do hope you are back on track now.
I haven't been as unfortunate as you. However, I need to restore Win 7 on my U410. I have with me the recovery disks purchased from Lenovo. My question is, were you able to get the image onto a USB disk to perform the restoration? If so, could you point me to some instructions?
Seriously, Lenovo ships laptop specific recovery images on optical disks for their laptops that do not have optical drives. Makes no sense to me. It's time they sell recovery images on USB drives.

  • Recovery manager won't start for clean reinstall of Windows 7

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-110f that is 4 years old.  Everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago started getting RAID messages on startup and other little qwerky things.  Then last week the dreaded BSOD showed up.  I shut down the computer and tried to restart, but got error messages that the computer couldn't start.  I then tried everything I could think of - startup repair, tried to boot in safe mode, recovery from partitioned drive, system restore - nothing worked.  I have the recovery media from HP but was saving that as my final option.  I tried to do a clean reinstall today from the discs, but now the recovery manager won't even come up.  Can somebody PLEASE help me get my OS back?

No, it wasn't an error message.  It was just notifications about different things being accessed on port1.  I just assumed it was startup items loading, but I had never gotten notifications about them before.  I just tried again to reinstall from recovery discs.  Pressed esc and got the boot menu, selected the dvd drive and you can hear it running, then it slows down to nothing and I get no recovery manager opening.  I turned off the computer again and pressed f9 when I turned it on.  Diagnostic show processor and memory are fine, but I get an error code of "BIOHD-8" on the hard drive.  Any suggestions?

  • 2nd Excite 10 won't start

I am on my second Excite 10 and it wobn't charge or start now either. Bought the first one in mid June. Replaced it due to same problem through the direct replacement warranty I purchased at the store where I bought it in mid October. Now the "new" one won't start or charge either. If I push the start button and hold it I get a brief vibration. Same if I push the volume down ad start button at teh same time. I haven't been back to the store yet but I don't think I want another Toshiba product. The Kindle Fire I purchased at the same time as the first one works great.
    Disgusted.

I am getting to the same point with the same frustrations. I bought mine on an Air Force base with warranty but when my Toshiba first did what your describing, they sent me to Toshiba and said I had to deal with them for the first year of their warranty. So, what they figured out was that the "motherboard was bad" which they fixed and sent it back. A month later, and now my tablet won't power on again. This time, it makes it to the startup screen (the second where there is balls of light sort of pop across the horizon) but it NEVER moves past that point and it will not allow me to power it off at this point (been stuck on the startup screen for about 30 minutes now).
I am DEFINITELY with you and feel your pains!!!!

  • Startup / Boot / Recovery / Windows won't start

Computer was working well, but hung up the other day, so I had to power off and restart.
Now can not get to windows.
Tried the various boot options - no luck (including safe mode/dos prompt)  Runs some files but hangs.
Tried some rescue type disks and MBR seemed to be corrupted on both volumes (C/D) as it reported it repaired them, but still not able to boot.
I am pretty confident the issue is windows corruption.  I was able to see some folders and files with one of the disk utilities.
I note there is a lot of discussion about Onekey - is this something I can access/run?  I am not getting any prompts for it.
What about recovery disk?  Can these be downloaded from online somewhere?
How can I recover this thing.  I would like to repair and keep files if possible, but if push comes to shove, reinstall will not kill me.
    Thanks,
    Jeff R

if your MBR is corrupted you can download the MBR repait tool from here
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62978
if your system is still under warranty u can get the recovery cd set for a nominal fee

  • Startup Disk Won't Start, Disk Seems Fine

When I start up my computer using my main Startup Disk running 10.5.4, it sits at the Apple logo for a while with the dial rotating, and gradually the fan gets louder and louder. That's as far as it gets, it'll just sit there. Strangely enough, the computer works fine when I boot it from my other disk running 10.4.11, and I access all the information on the starup disk without any problems.
This all started an hour or so after I tried to update Quicktime, and had some kind of unarchiving error at the end. The computer would work alright, but locked up when using iTunes (which updated fine).
    Thanks,
    Michael

I never apply updates until and unless:
    I have a cloned backup and both drives have been repaired with Disk Warrior;
And I apply combo update booted from 2nd drive to 1st. You might want to take it for a two-day test drive in some cases.
You do sound like there is problem with disk catalogue, directory, journaling, or more.
While Disk Utility may not find as many problems as Disk Warrior, even DW isn't a guarantee that you want to use the drive. Consider backing up while you can. It's possible to have a valid directory and journal, files are structurally okay, but the contents are not.
So I would avoid installing or updating a drive until I had cleaned it up and run more repairs. Delete the cache folders (System and Library) and the extensions.mkext file before repairs.
