2nd Torch and it's doing wierd stuff again!!
So this is my 2nd Torch after sending in my first one because it kept randomly redialing and switching between applications. They sent me a refurbished one and now this one is doing the same thing. Last night it dialed my husbands cell phone 4 times while we were sleeping (it was in the basement so we never heard it). None of the buttons seem to work, except the touch screen. I've pulled the battery NUMEROUS times. I've pulled it and put it back in right away as well as I've pulled it and left it for a few hours and it still does it. In fact, when I put it back in right away, as soon as the security screen is done, it starts flashing between so many different things, it's nuts. I've searched online and have found numerous people that are having the same issue with the 9800, but I can't find anywhere that has a fix for it. I've gone to my service provider and complained because it'a a real hassle to send it in to be fixed only to have them send me back a refurbished one which, I can almost guarantee it will happen again. I asked them to give me the 9810 at no cost and they said I had to call RIM, but to contact RIM via phone I have to pay for a ticket - which I'm not about to do. I only just switched to Blackberry in August and I'm already starting to regret it. PLEASE HELP ME FIX MY PHONE!!!!!

Nothing showed in the Podcasts nor the iTunes U.
In fact I also subscribed to Stanford's lectures and despite actually managing to DL them there is still no subscription in iTunes U, just the Intro to Computer Science belatedly.

The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -

Hi, Sorry for how long this is going to be, but I need to explain.
So I am struggling financially.
I had to get a car and it has payments.
So I need to downside my spending.
99% of my time I am in a wifi setting. And I am able to text unlimited and use unlimited data as well.
I'm more a texter than a talker. I can text on my computer or iPad. So my phone pretty much is useless unless I go out or need to talk on the phone.
When I first joined Verizon I signed up for a data plan on my iPad. But now I have a hotspot, iPhone and my friend's phone included.
I no longer need the hotspot having an iPhone or the data plan on my iPad. And Verizon has graciously helped me with that and takes the amount I would pay for both and deducts it from my bill each month.
But, they are still on my plan. So if I cancel I would need to pay a cancelation fee for all devices I cancel.
And that's fine if I do. My bill is probably near what a cancelation fee would cost. So if I have to pay that's fine. I will. It'll be rough but after 2 months it'll be worth doing.
I was reading about an Assumption of Liability and if I could do that, that would be great. But I don't think I can since I have someone on my plan.
I am going to go to another phone company. Ugh!! I have been with all the big phone companies. The 2nd best to Verizon is AT&T. TBH, you will not get better than the 2 companies. And remember, you get what you pay for. So it's sad to leave. I love Verizon! IDC what anyone says. In the past year Verizon has bent over backwards to help me with an issue I was having and they are the best. If someone gets bad service from them, report that person cause the company really cares about their customers. I am an example of that. And the coverage is great. I like AT&T too, but I would have trouble with them from time to time. But with Verizon never!! And doesn't matter where you go. Like there are some areas where service will cut out but I never had that problem with Verizon.
But, after moving, in my area, the company I'm going to, is great service as well and it meets all I need for a lot lesser price.
You do get what you pay for and downgrading is never good. But sadly I have to pick what's more important and in this case, is my car. So I have to go with what I can afford.
Anyways, what I would like to do is...
Hand over my account to my friend that's on my plan, make it their's and cancel all my devices.
But since I do want to keep my number and usually when doing this, it cancels the plan you are on.
IDK if I can do that since I'm not sure if it will cancel the entire plan or just the phone itself.
As I said, if I have to pay the etf that's fine.
Because that's the plan. Hand over to my friend the account and cancel my devices.
So if someone could tell me if that's possible that would be great.
Where I live now, Verizon isn't close by and finding out without having to talk would be great. LOL

I assume you have a smartphone and you want to keep it instead of moving to a basic phone. If you are willing to switch to a basic phone and have access to one, you could get on Verizon's More Everything plan for a basic phone only to the tune of $25/month + taxes. That would give you no data, 700 minutes of talk and unlimited texting.
If you have a smartphone and would want to keep it, you are looking at $40 line access fee, unlimited talk/text and a minimum data plan of $20/month for a total of $60 + taxes on the More Everything plan.
Verizon also has a single line plan which includes unlimited talk/text and 1 GB of data/month for $60/month + tax.
Of course, to sign your other devices over to someone, they would have to agree to do so.

I just purchased a ipad2, it would not work on my MacBook 10.4.1 I purchased and installed OSX snow leopard 10.6.3 downloaded and installed the latest itunes, set up an itunes account, purchased some music and apps. When i plug in my ipod it shows up and works, but when i plug in my new ipad the ipad screen comes up with a display of a cable and itunes but does not show in devises, i have tried all the resets and different USB ports with no success. Any ideas short of selling it on ebay or buying a new computer?
If you've already tried the usual rebooting of the computer and ports and stuff, there is only a few things left I can think of. It's possible that when you updated iTunes it didn't fully replace all the files, so I suggest just manually removing iTunes and then reinstalling it.
Try removing iTunes manually first http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224 then download a fresh copy, make sure it is 10.3.1
It is essential that you go through Finder to remove those files it mentions. Otherwise they won't be reinstalled when you run the installer again. -
Trying to download itunes onto PC installed with windows vista. Download keeps getting to 99% with 1 second remaining and then freezes / does nothing? Any help appreciated.
I solved the problem! The updates orignally were downloaded to the C: drive of the server. I've since moved them to the E: drive and for some reason the Content folder in IIS didn't change the file path to the new WSUScontent folder.
The root cause for this was failing to use the UTILITY designed for this very purpose.
I edited the virtual directory settings in IIS and was able to put the correct path in.
You still need to use the UTILITY.. to fix all the other stuff you're still missing.
In the %ProgramFiles%\Update Services\Tools folder...
WSUSUTIL MOVECONTENT E:\WSUS E:\WSUS\MoveContent.LOG -SKIPCOPY
This problem was caused by moving the WSUS updates to a different local drive.

ITunes doesn't recognize IPOD Nano (2nd Gen), but Windows XP does
I'm a longtime happy owner of an IPOD Mini and bought a second Gen IPOD Nano a few months ago that works great. I have two identical P4 Sony Vaios that I back up/clone from one to the other every so often to keep them as identical as possible. It's been some months though since I've backed up/cloned my primary laptop to the secondary, and the 2nd Gen Nano isn't being recognized by ITunes on my primary laptop, only my secondary laptop. However Windows recognizes the Nano just fine on the primary laptop on all 3 USB 2.0 ports (I haven't tried my Mini recently), and I can browse the file system of the Nano, but ITunes just doesn't see it.
As I mentioned, my secondary laptop works just fine with the Nano, both Windows XP AND ITunes recognizes it and can update it, but I don't want to have to use that computer JUST for updating my IPOD, and pretty soon I need to back up my primary laptop to my secondary. I've actually only been holding off on that because I can't get my Nano to be recgonized by ITunes with my primary laptop and don't want to screw them both up. P4 Windows XP ProNevermind. I uninstalled ITunes completely as well as the IPOD updater program (I think that's what it was basically called) that was installed on my system. I then rebooted, tested the Nano to make sure Windows recognized it, then tested it (successfully) with Winamp and the Winamp IPOD plugin. It was already working properly with Winamp and the IPOD plugin even when ITunes wasn't recognizing it so there was no change there. Once everything checked out I reinstalled the current version of ITunes and it FINALLY recognized the IPOD. It said there was a new software version available for the Nano so I went ahead and allowed it to download and install the update to 1.1. The update went smoothly and once the Nano restarted ITunes again recognized it. No clue what the problem was that created this error condition initially, but perhaps someone else will benefit from this information. I would have thought that reinstalling ITunes at least 3 times, including 2 version upgrades, would have resolved the problem, but it took removing ITunes and the IPOD software completely to resolve it.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

iTunes is not designed to do that. However, this user tip from tt2 may help you recover your music from your iPod, although it's not a simple process: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Ignore any references in the tip to iOS devices, the Classic does not use iOS. The tip has a list of software, including the TouchCopy referred to by tbirdvet that may assist you in recovering your music. -

There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.

I would like to make a movie of me speaking while doing a power point presentation. I have seen this done with the powerpoint embedded on the screen and the speaker doing the talking on the rest of the screen. Is it possible to do this in iMovie?

the ppt has to be some kind of 'video' iM supports.
so export it from with MS Office as a Quicktime movie, preffered with 'Animation' codec, or as appleintermediatecodec .. for quality reasons.
you need the Talking Head as a 2nd video.
then use iM's Pic-In-Pic feature to combine both videos as wanted.
I would suggest to do some editing (you full-screen, the ppt full-screen, perhaps 'close ups' of some charts, cut-aways to snoozing audience, etc) to 'pep' the video. for this purpose, it could be much esier to export each slide from within PPT as a jpeg and create the 'flow' in iM only... except, you need the ppt-animations ... but, who uses animations in a presentation anyhow ... ?
