2x aperture library (desktop and notebook) sync to mobileMe gallery

i've 2x aperture library, (one on MacPro and second on Macbook Pro). How can I sync to the same MobileMe Gallery and keep both aperture mobileme album in sync (update), thanks?

Hi,
I have a similar problem and have posted about it on this thread:

I'm watching this thread too to see if anyone responds.
Thanks,

On both my desktop and notebook, sync just stops working and needs to be set up again! Although my account is still there ?
I have windows 7 on both computers and I use the paid version of Roboform (which does not encounter any problems!) So, I really need my sync to work and keep working. Please help......

Do you mean that after closing the browser your Sync set up is gone and you need to Set it up again?
This is, generally, because your privacy settings are too restrictive and you are deleting the password of your Sync account.
You can modify this in the Privacy tab of your Preferences/Options window. Select Remember History or Use Custom Settings in the drop down to configure the level that you want.

  • Workflow Questions - Same Aperture Library on two machines - Sync ?

Ok, So now that 1.1 is out I copied my Aperture library to my new MacBookPro, updated to v1.1, loaded the program ... and Bam, my library is there and working perfectly (after the Migrate process).
So now, I have my libarary on my Desktop Dual Power PC machine at home and also on my MBP in the field ... I'm in heaven!
My question is this. If I make a bunch of updates to the library (adding new images, new projects, new albums, rating new and existing images, assigning keywords, etc) on my MBP while sitting at Starbucks or laying on the beach is there any way to go home and sync these changes with the library on desktop machine?
I realize that if I do all my work on the MBP in a new Project and then export that project I can then import it into the machine at home ... but that only solves 1/2 my problem ... how do I deal with projects and albums that already exist on both machines?
Copying the entire Aperture Library back and forth is an option but at 40GB and growing that does not seem like a lot of fun.
Any ideas? Even a 3rd party app would be cool if it worked. Would something like ChronoSync see inside the Aperture Library container and deal with changed items?
    Thanks,
    A happy v1.1 MBP user

Aha! That (file sync) is exactly the first thought I had when I read your post (though I personally was thinking RSyncX, Chrono Sync may be easier to use).
To many programs the Aperture library looks just like a directory, which it really is - Finder and a few other things treat is specially but usually the origins of file synchronization tools are more UNIX utilities that just see the Aperture library and projects therein as a series of directories.
In particular, what you'd be looking for this tool to update are:
    * Import directories in exisitng projects with new images and updated sidecar/XML files.
    * Added folders and albums
    * (most important) new copy of the Aperture database.
All of these things are just files so it should be very easy for the sync utilitiy to find they are newer on the laptop and copy them over.
Now what will not work well with this approach would be to edit files on the laptop and the desktop at the same time, and then attempt to syncronize them - but if you are only using one at a time you should not have issues.
I would make a small sample library in both places to test this approach against but I see no reason why it should not work.
The only other approach really would be shuttling projects back and forth between systems, which you may have to do someday if your desktop library exceeds the capacity of the laptop.

  • PCMag readers rate Apple highly on Desktop and Notebooks

Going slightly off-topic, PCmag just did a survey on vendor's reliability and support. Apple came on top for both desktop and notebook categories.
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2006497,00.asp
I bought the Macbook Pro and it arrived 2 weeks ago (week 32 build). So far, I am very satisfied with it (albeit being on a pretty hot side), and I had no need to call the tech support yet. So I'm wondering - what do people on this forum think about Apple's reliability and tech support?
I am aware about the quality issues Apple had with earlier builds of their notebooks, but it seemed like Apple managed to sort it out mostly as of now. I was going to wait for them to come out with Merom notebooks, but after seeing the benchmarks, I thought there was no compelling reason to wait on Merom any further anymore (which wasn't surprising, since current intel notebook CPUs (Yonah) are actually very good unlike Prescott).
So back to the question......how would YOU rate Apple's reliability and tech support?
P.S. I would suggest that you try and customize your notebook when you buy, to increase the chance of having the latest revision of the components. Do realize that I said "may"......
    MacBook Pro 2.16GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I purchased a decent priced Mac Pro from eBay and then upgraded the graphics card and RAM.  I also upgraded the CPU's, but that isn't something most casual computer users want to get into.  RAM and video card was a no brainer on the Mac Pro.
I also scoured the local classifieds and found a nice iMac 17" 2ghz C2D.  I bought some extra ram, and put Snow Leopard on it.  Real great machine, works perfectly fine and runs anything I need it to do.  Was a great price.
Or you can buy yourself a new iMac, you won't be disappointed.  Looks great, has an awesome display, and is about as clutter free as possible.  You can also run Windows via bootcamp if you need be.
My friend has a macbook air, real cook machine, but it suffers in t he performance area to keep it light weight.  However, it does EVERYTHING he wants it to do.
I also run an eMac for internet browsing, word processing, and email.  You can get them almost for free.
    Good luck,

  • ITunes can't load Aperture library for iPad Air sync

I have a 120gb Aperture library stored on my NAS. Got my new iPad Air and when I go to the Photos tab in sync options, the gray wheel just keeps on spinning indefintely. I don't know if it can't load a library that big, or if there's something else going on. If I create a small Aperture library it works fine. Anyone else had this issue?
    Running 11.1.3 on Mavericks.
    Thanks!

I'm experiencing exactly the same issue with a 42GB Library. Same issue even if I create a new smaller library. When I click on the device in itunes and then photos I get the grey wheel turning for hours. I tried switching to iPhoto library and the issue seems worse.

  • Aperture - library management and external HDD question

    Hi all.
I have just graduated from a point and shoot to a Panasonic GH2 (love it), and have now begun using Aperture 3 rather than iPhoto on my early 2008 MB Pro to manage my photos going forwards.  Of course, I’ve now discovered that Aperture is quite the resource hog and so it’s upgrade time (darn, “have” to buy a new ‘puter!).  I have a 2011 MB Pro (2.3Ghz i7 with 512GB SSD) on order and 8GB of DDR 3 arriving from Crucial.  Since I have this brand-new-computer opportunity I want to make sure I’m organising things properly before I start transferring things across, and so have a few Aperture-related questions.  (In case it’s relevant, I’m shooting in RAW+JPEG.  So far I’ve been using RAW as master, but have since learnt it might be a good idea to import JPG as master and switch to RAW only when I need to make corrections, so I’ll probably do that going forwards.)
I understand that moving to referenced masters on an external drive might be a good idea and save me precious SSD-space.  To that end, questions are:
    1. Can anyone recommend a companion external HDD for Aperture and the 2011 MBPro?  I guess either FW800 or Thunderbolt are the way to go.  The Lacie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt might be an option but is this overkill for Aperture masters or would FW800 be sufficient.  I’ve also seen the G-Tech G-RAID mini, Lacie Rugged – thoughts welcome.
Key requirements are a) as compact as possible, and b) bus powered.
    2. What kind of performance can I expect if I go down this route?  Is there going to be significant loading/processing delay whenever I switch to a new image?
    3. How will Aperture cope with (eg) syncing photos to iPad / iPhone if the drive containing the masters isn’t connected?  Put another way, are JPG renders saved in the Aperture library (i.e. on my MBP SSD) or with the masters?
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds!

OWC (an excellent vendor) has the Elite Pro Mini hard drive that meets your specs:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/EliteALmini/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
Thiunderbolt drives are not mainstream yet but eSATA and FW800 both work well. The multiple connection methods of OWC drives allow very desirable flexibility when purposing/repurposing drives.
Note too that the MBP optical drive can be replaced with up to a 1-TB hard drive DIY or OWC will do it for you. That is what I am doing with my 17" 2011 MBP.
    2. Is there going to be significant loading/processing delay whenever I switch to a new image?
SSD latency is orders of magnitude less than hard drives. Switching to a new image even fast hard drives with fast connectivity add significant latency delay. To avoid that what I do is leave (Referenced) Masters on the SSD until all editing is complete (which may be a few weeks). Only then do I use Aperture to change the Referenced Masters location from the SSD to a large external drive.
What kind of performance can I expect if I go down this route?
With Masters on the SSD and 8 GB RAM imports/exports are very fast and all Aperture editing is essentially instant. You will be pleased!
Suggested workflow steps for Referenced Masters:
    • Use a FW card reader or MBP slot to copy to a file folder on the SSD (never directly into Aperture or any other images management app). With fast camera cards copy times are quick, but cheap slow cards can slow this step down a lot.
    • Eject and physically disconnect the card reader.
    • Back up that file folder on external drive(s).
    • Only after backup is complete, reformat the camera card in-camera.
    • Import images into Aperture from the file folder on the SSD.

I have no idea what happened, why you are seeing what you are seeing.
My only guess at finding the missing work is to look under File->Open Recent on both computers.
I do know that if you aren't making regular backups of your catalog file, and relying on synchronizing catalogs from one computer to another via the cloud, you are living very dangerously, and now you are possibly going to pay the consequences of not making regular backups.

  • Aperture Library-referenced and managed-how to add to...

I'm trying to put all my images in one library.
Right now, I have a library that contains some referenced images, and some managed images.
I want to make the entire library referenced.  That is, I want all of th original images stored seperatley from the Aperture Library.
Should I reconnect (consolidate) the images that are currently referenced and then proceed to make all of them referenced, or can I select the images that aren't referenced and add them to the same folder where my other originals currently stored?
    Thanks

For the ones currently managed: File -> Relocate Masters. or Relocate Original

  • After migrating from iPhoto: Aperture library 81GB and iPhoto Library 17GB

I Have ~10K images almost all .jpgs. I just completed the "rebuild from masters" command after experimenting with Aperture for a while. I was surprised to find that my Aperture Library was 81GB and my remaining iPhoto library was 17GB. First of all I selected "move" from the "rebuild from masters" command so I thought my iPhoto Library would just disappear. When I open iPhoto all my pictures are still there. So why the large library size difference?
    -thanks

How long since, you installed Aperture 3? You may need to leave the machine running for quite a while before things start to settle down. Sounds like you may be short of RAM and or a library with a lot of faces. Allan

  • TM backs up Aperture library over and over again!

Ladies and Gents; I look forward to your insight how this happens. Every time I work in Aperture, Time Machine backs up the whole library file to my Time Capsule(1TB), eating space like hungry dog.
My aperture library is refrenced, so the actual pictures are stored in folders on the hard drive and Aperture only keeps the references. As I have some 15000 pictures amounting to some 40GB, the referenced library is 18.9GB in size.
Even when I just delete some pictures (in Aperture) or do minor adjustments (create a version of a picture in Aperture) TM backs up 18+GB every time.
For now, I have excluded the Aperture library from backups but would like to understand why this bug happens and how to avoid it. I have read somewhere that the latest 10.5.3 updated fixed this - but aperently not for me.
My software is always updated and the iMac packed with power. Thanx for your time.

I just did some reading on the forums and it appears that the issue happens when Aperture is running while TM runs backup. Subsequently, next time TM runs a backup while Aperture is not running it will back up the whole Aperture library all over again.
At the same time some people suggested that 10.5.3 has solved this. Not for me, any ideas?

  • Vault size vs APerture library size and related questions

My aperture library is 50GB for some 65,000 referenced pictures...how does this compare with others? To me, it seems a bit big.
Also odd. The vault backup of my libarary is 9.1GB ONLY! How come?
I think that all of my pictures are referenced.....is there an easy way to check?
If I make a new fresh library and restore from the vault, what will I loose, if anything? Will I need to reconnect pictures or anything?

that seems about right to me. what's taking up space are previews and thumbnails. afaik, the vault doesn't hold any of those, only the database, albums, projects and configuration files.
if you restore from a vault, all the previews and thumbnails have to be rebuilt. you can save a little space that way, because the thumbnail files don't shrink when you erase photos or move them to another project, but personally i don't think it's worth the time and effort.

  • Wireless desktop and notebook and no hard wire to router

My parents have a wireless router, and they have the receiver for their desktop and a buitl in wireless for their laptop.
The laptop works fine picking up the signal but the desktop does not work. Do I need to install the router software into the desktop to initiate a wireless network? And if so, do I need to have it hard wired to the desktop to do so?

Hi try to uninstall and reinstall the driver of the wireless NIC of your desktop. The router doesnt have a driver, you dont have to like install the router on the desktop.

  • I'm organising my Aperture library today and I'm going to go through my photos folder, import the images to Aperture and then delete the original folders. Just curious if deleting the source folders is a big no-no or not.

Topic title basically sums it up.

Alright. For my case was, my source files are inside the Document folders. Since importing the pictures into Aperture, deleting the source files/folders did not cause any problems with Aperture.
Whether it is a good idea or would depend on how comforatble you are with the idea in the first place. On one hand you can save up precious hard disk space, while on the other if the Aperture library gets corrupted, you might lose everything. Of course, having a backup of the Aperture library helps, as well as a time machine backup of it. On top of that you can also have an Aperture Vault to backup the library to a external drive.
In summary i think a reasonlable backup plan is just as important regardless of whether or not the source file is in which location. For my case, i only have the Aperture library as all of my source. A time machine backs up everything including my library, in addition to that, i also use Aperture Vault to back up to another external drive just in case.

  • How to setup automatic sync to mobileme gallery from iphoto?

i uploaded an album from iphoto to my gallery and the next day i added 2 pictures to that album in iphoto and they were not synced to my gallery?

Once you create the iPhoto MMe gallery the Album you originally used is not longer linked to it.
You need to copy the new photos from wherever in the library they are and paste them into the gallery album that you access in the Web section at the left.
That will cause the new photos to automatically be synced online.
