3.0 broke my home button

before I upgraded, if I held down my home button in any given app (ipod music, safari, etc), it would cause that app to COMPLETELY quit, stop running, and take me back to the home screen. After upgrading, this no longer happens. I can hold down the home button forever and nothing happens at all.

So i forgot the password to my ipod touch and the only way to reset it is to hold down the home and power button but I dropped mine and broke the home button how do I reset it without the home button?

i suggest booking a appointment with the Genius bar. Your Ipod Touch most likely has a faulty button.Apple will replace the Ipod touch for free if it is under warranty.
In the mean time to use Ipod you can access accistive touch which is the home button on the screen. settings>general>accessibilty>accistive touch

A simple press on the home button should always get you back to your 'app-menu'. If this is not the case there is a problem. It is possible that your button is broken. Maybe you could try first to install the latest iOS version through iTunes if you haven't done already. Or try to reset your iPhone by pressing the power button a few seconds and then Slide to Power off.

No one here works for or represents Apple, thus no one here can definitively answer your question. Out of warranty replacements require the phone, you're replacing, be in one piece. Generally, when you perform surgery yourself, you void the ability to take advantage of an out of warranty replacement.
Put everything back together, make an appointment at an Apple store & hope for the best.

Home button broke and Apple wont fix it?

I became a first time iphone user a little over a year ago through Verizon. I have an iphone 4. About 3 weeks ago (50 days after my one year warranty ran out, the home button on my phone broke. Sometimes it flat out doesnt respond, other times it acts as if it is pressed in and constantly flips between the desktop and open apps and also activates voice command and randomly dials people. Essentially it has become unusable.
I've gone through the list of common fixes for this problem and tried them all. I've tried calibrating the home button, using the charging adapter to unstick the button, ive tried the isopropyl alcohol in the button, nothimg fixed it. I even did a full format and restoring of the phone.
I finally took it to my local Apple store. They looked at it, determined it was indeed a hardware issue with the button and told me they will not repair it and that my only option is to buy a new 4 for $200. I was willing to pay to have this issue fixed as I am out if warranty and do not have any coverage plan but they wont do that. Im pretty unsatisfied with this answer as you would expect. As a first time Apple customer I dont have a good first impression. Im realistic and understand that im out of warranty and thats why im willing to pay to have it repaired, but when im told my only option is to buy a new phone...wrong answer. I now just feel as if its a tactic to increase revenue. Not surprising, I know.
Anyone ever experienced this before and have any suggestions? Unless it fixes itself or I get a satisfactory resolution from Apple, I'll probably activate an old phone, wait a year for my verizon contract to renew and get an android.

You can pay the out of warranty fee ($249 I think, in the USA) and get a refurbished replacement.

Iphone home button & Restore is broke Please help

Woke up around 11am today and my iphone was working fine, left it on the side in a cool area and around 11am the home button decided to stop working.
Luckily i have a code and only way i worked around to go back to the main screen was locking the phone, then unlock go into emergency call then back and enter my code. no problem.
Previously to fix the problem i restored the iphone and then backed up, worked a joy.
But today i tried that and i get the following bug, Plug the iphone in restore goes through properly, i get the message saying keep iphone conencted. then a error message says. Iphone needs to be restored as its currently in recovery mode.
Now if i unplug the usb cable and turn the phone off and turn it on, it will finish the install of the restore.
Ill then plug it back into the pc and perform the back up, and shortly after ill get the same problem. so i unplug and turn off the iphone. turn it back on and it will be backed up.
I can then sync it through itunes, but the home button remains disabled.
What can i do any help. Im curious if its bricked it self.
Its not jailbroken and its the latest update of 4.3.5

My iPhone 4 has worke alright since I've had it, I believe it ran out of battery since it was low the last time I checked it. It will now not turn on even when I have charged it for an hour+. Have not heard of that but here is what I would do - test after each step to see if the problem is solved
1. Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
2. If that does not work - back up to iTunes and restore to factory settings
3. Check to see if the problem is resolved before restoring from backup

So i have had my iPod Touch 4G about a year now, two months ago the home button 'broke' to my understanding. It is not 'stuck'' i can click it but this action provokes no response. Im unsure what to do now, as Apple's ingenious on-screen home button *****
