3.0+ imap Gmail Unread Message

Ever since the update to 3.0 my imap Gmail account on my iPhone shows that I have one unread message. It is blank, dated 12/31/00. I cannot open it or delete it, and it's always there. It wasn't fixed in any of the subsequent updates. I looked through Gmail threads and several people posted the same problem, but no solution. Any ideas?
I apologize if this question has already been asked, but I couldn't find it.

I found this link on Gmail site. See if it works to meet your requirements:

  • Apple IMAP flagging unread messages as read

    i'm experiencing a very frustrating problem that i can't seem to find an answer to. i'm using IMAP mail on three devices - a 24" imac, i7 15" macbook pro and iphone 3GS. all accounts are set up the same, as best i can tell (the iphone doesn't quite let you go as deep into the advanced settings).
    some of my emails come in as "unread" and others (the majority) come in as "read" which is for obvious reasons problematic. i can't seem to find a pattern or reason this would be occurring. sometimes i'll only have one device on, and they still come through as read.
    i really don't want to go back to POP mail, but i can't seem to figure this out. any help would be really appreciated.

    That is a pretty broad statement, considering with any IMAP account, it is the server that marks a message as Read, albeit upon communication with the device and app that did the reading. The Inbox resides on the server with an IMAP account, and not on any device accessing it. I am not saying it is the fault of the server, but the server must be involved.
    I don't use a smart phone to access them, but I have IMAP accounts, hosted for my domain, that are accessed by multiple computers, and which work correctly.
    Can you set up additional email accounts with this domain, which are not accessed by the smart phone?

  • IPhone 3G mail with IMAP gmail getting "message has no content"

    I have been using a POP3 mail account with no trouble. I switched to gMail, and started getting occasional problems where mail forwarded from my work e-mail would show up as "message has no content" on the iPhone, yet in the gMail web interface, there is indeed content. I have seen that a lot of other people are having this problem also, and it seems to have started with the upgrade to software version 2.1. Does anyone know if Apple is working on this problem? I really need to get this to work, because I am the sole iPhone user here amidst a sea of Blackberry users, and I cannot afford to look like I am the only one having a problem.

    have the exact same problem and would appreciate some suggestions and solutions as well.

  • HELP. How to read unread message from Gmail?

    Folder inbox = store.getFolder("INBOX");
              inbox.open(Folder.READ_ONLY);
              FetchProfile profile = new FetchProfile();
         profile.add(FetchProfile.Item.ENVELOPE);
    System.out.println(inbox.getUnreadMessageCount());
    It print out the number of all messages. I just want to get it number of unread message.
    I have bean searching for a long time. Is there any one can help me. I just want to make a Gmail notifier. Ring me when I get unread email.

    Are you using IMAP or POP?
    Did you read the JavaMail FAQ entries about Gmail?

  • Why "Bulk Mail" foder does not display number of unread messages unless I click the folder (Yahoo mail through IMAP)?

    Yahoo mail account's "Spam" folder (as viewed through "Yahoo mail" web interface) is displayed in Thunderbird as "Bulk Mail" (IMAP). Looking at the account's foders in Thunderbird I see the number of unread messages in each folder. "Bulk Mail" appears always to be empty. If I click the "Bulk Mail" folder, then magically messages appear in message list, and the number of unread messages is displayed next to folder name, like in all other folders of this account.
    Why I need to touch the "Bulk Mail" folder in order to see the number of messages in it?
    Yahoo deletes messages from this folder at certain periods. I'm in danger of loosing messages unless I remember to touch all of my Yahoo account's Bulk Mail folders in Thunderbird.
    How I can get "Bulk Mail" folder to show the number of unread messages like all other folders of the same account do?
    Thunderbird 24.6.0, Windows 7 Enterprise (Sp1)
    pekka

    I don't use IMAP in Thunderbird, so I can't provide step-by-step instructions, however, other e-mail programs have settings for whether or not to synchronize each individual folder on a schedule or using push IMAP (vs when clicked). If Thunderbird has those settings, I would expect them to appear in the folder properties or account settings. Perhaps this will be helpful, but I don't know if you've already done some digging like this or not.
    FYI, a quick search brought me to this page:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuration-options-folders
    One item listed in that page is this:
    Configure IMAP folders, connections and namespaces
    Menu location: Tools | Account Settings | <account name> | Server Settings | Advanced
    Perhaps that would be a good place to start since it does mention IMAP folder connections, but folder properties still might be an easier place to peek first, just in case. For that, the site lists this:
    Configure folder properties (IMAP folders only)
    Menu location: Edit | Folder Properties | General Information
    However, I think you could right-click on the "Bulk Mail" folder and hit properties in the pop-up menu.

  • IMAP Deleted Messages AND Unread Messages

    I've read quite a few threads about two seemingly persistent problems using Mail and IMAP servers: a) Messages deleted within Mail "reappear" in the client's in-box, and b) messages read (and marked as read -- no blue dot) "reappear" as unread messages (this latter problem occurs for me, even if moved to a folder on my IMAP account). I have to admit that I've gotten lost in the twists and turns of these discussions and I'm reluctant to start trying things that may make matters worse.
    I've tried to extract the right things to do here -- and, so far, only have checked that I am indeed saving deleted messages on the server.
    May I ask: In summary terms, are there a few standard fixes for making deleted messages go away and read messages stay that way? Thanks!!
    PB 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    I'm using Mail 2.1 (752/752.2) talking to a Cyrus IMAP server running on the same machine. Messages are kept on the server. I have a GnuPG mail plugin. Ever since the last update of Mail I've had the problem of random "read" messages returning to the "unread" state, and not just in INBOX, but in other folders, all on the server. I've read them, did "Synchronize" and they soon show up as "unread" again. I've read them, quit Mail, restarted Mail, and they are "unread" again. Sounds like what other people are seeing.
    So I wrote a program that talks directly to the IMAP server to see what it thinks about the "read" status. Sure enough, messages that have a sitcky "unread" state do not have the IMAP "\Seen" flag set. In other words Mail is not setting this flag for some reason. (I've check this several times, before and after Mail is supposed to mark a message "read," after quiting Mail, etc., and the "\Seen" flag is never set.)
    If I use my prober program to manually set the "\Seen" flag on a message, then it stays "read." That message never again pops to the the "unread" state; however, random new messages get stuck in the "unread" state. So far the only way I have been able to mark these sticky messages as "read" is to talk directly to the IMAP server.
    I believe this strongly indicates the problem lies in Mail itself and not the IMAP server. I believe there was some regression with this new version of Mail because I've never had the problem before. To conclusively prove Mail is at fault, though, I would have to eavesdrop on the communication between Mail and IMAP.

    imap.gmail is the Google mail server. It doesn't recognize the password that is stored in the iPhone. The problem is that the password or email address you have in Settings for the gmail account is wrong. If you changed the password somewhere else that is the reason. You need to go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar, tap on the gmail account and enter the correct password. You also need to change it for outgoing mail in Settings.

    Be sure you use Google's settings from:
    https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/1668960?hl=en&ref_topic=1669040#t s=1665018
    The key is to be sure you have enabled IMAP on your GMAIL account. Follow the instrunctions on that link. Then be sure to check the Advanced settings from:

    Sometimes, you have to go deeper into the settings and check the outgoing mail server setting as well, especially, if you cannot send mail.
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional

    I posted this elsewhere on here. Apple has an issue with the new email client.
    I've made 5 calls to Apple support and have escalated this as far as possible by phone. It has now been escalated to the next group, and I was informed they don't work by phone. Some basics;
    1. Didn't have this problem on ios 6
    2. I have three POP accounts with the same server (verizon)
    3. This only happens on 2 of the 3 accounts.
    4. "Mark All" and "As read" doesn't fix it.
    5. Deleting some emails on the server doesn't fix it.
    6. Marking all the emails as "read" on the server (via web client) doesn't work.
    7. 2nd level support's answer was to just delete the emails off the server (that ain't happening).
    So that's where we are

  • Gmail tab never updates unread message count

    I'm using OS X 10.9.1 and Safari 7.0.1.
    The tab that I have for Gmail never updates the unread message count.  It constantly says 27 and has done that ever since I got my MacBook which has newer versions of everything over my old MacBook which was running 10.7.  I've tried deleting cookies and clearing the cache and such but the tab still says 27 unread emails even though, as of this writing, I have 29 unread emails.
    Is there any way to fix this?

    Since I last brought this up 4 months ago, Safari has been updated to 7.0.3 and OS X is now at 10.9.2 and I'm still having the same issue.  The GMail tab always says 27.  Though now I can refresh the page and get it to update the count and it will continue to update correctly after that.  But it always starts at 27 and I have to force a refresh of the page to get it to update.
    Scratch some of that.  I went into the bookmarks and deleted the "(27)" from the name of the bookmark.  Now when the tab loads, it simply says "Inbox - " followed by my email address.  And only after I reload the page does it have an unread email count which is correct.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • To get unread messages in any folder "exactly once"

    What am trying to do?
    a. Poll the mail server(might be MS or gmail or yahoo..) (say now).
    b. Get unread messages from a mailbox folder via IMAP. (via +'SEEN'+ flag)
    c. Process the unread messages i.e. in my case i will send SMS to users according to filters specified.
    d. Sleep and Poll the mail server after 10 min(say)
    e. Now the question is how to do i get the next set of unread messages i.e. the unread messages other than those that i got in step (b)
    Rules-
    a. Note that i can't set the message as '+READ+' or '+SEEN+' as mine is not the standard client.
    b. I think i can get hold of the largest message UID in the first poll and save it and in the next poll try to retrieve only the unread
    messages with UID greater than that i saved. +But is there any good and easy approach to do the above+?
    c. Also to be clear, in the interim period between two polls, if the user really reads a mail via his/her client, then in the next poll i am not interested in those read mails. So the question arises only if the user doesn't check any mail where my application really comes into picture
    Please assist. Ping me if am unclear.

    Thanks. It's working for 'IMAP'. I need it for IMAP only.

  • Mail + Gmail deselects messages in list

    My company recently switched to Google Apps (Gmail) for our mail. I've got my IMAP account setup in Mail, but have an incredibly frustrating problem. As I'm deleting messages in the inbox, the message pane will deselect the current message, apparently as it deletes/resyncs with the server. If I have 4 unread messages, and rapidly delete the first 3, the 4th will be selected for a brief moment, and then no message will be selected. Meaning I have to click on the 4th message to read and/or delete it. Sometimes it's deselected multiple times after clicking on it, meaning I have to click on the message repeatedly to even read it. Once the Activity window shows activity has ceased, the problem stops. Sometimes it will even scroll the window to the top of my Inbox, so I will have to scroll down and click on the message that should already be selected.
    I've done quite a bit of searching on Google and in these forums and haven't found a similar problem. This is surprising, since 3 out of 3 Mail users in my office have the exact same problem. I never had this problem before switching to Gmail (our previous mail server was Qmail).
    Help please! This basically makes Mail unusable for me since I get hundreds of emails per day. I loathe to switch to Thunderbird, but I may have to if I can't figure this out (does Thunderbird have decent threading yet?)
    Thanks!

    Fixed!
    Solution:
    * Enable "Advanced IMAP controls" in Google Labs
    * Change these settings in IMAP/POP section:
    * Auto-expunge: Do not automatically expunge messages
    * When a message is expunged from the last visible IMAP folder: Move the message to the Trash
    * For Mail.app settings, follow instructions here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892#

    hello friends if you are reading mail from gmail use following properties
    props=System.getProperties();
                 props.setProperty( "mail.imap.socketFactory.class", "javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory");
                props.setProperty( "mail.imap.socketFactory.fallback", "false");
                props.setProperty("mail.imap.port", "993");
                props.setProperty("mail.imap.socketFactory.port", "993");// for gmail
                   props.put("mail.imap.host", "imap.gmail.com");
    auth=new SMTPAuthenticator("[email protected]","password");
                      session=Session.getDefaultInstance(props,auth);
              store=session.getStore("imap");
    by checking flag values you can differentiate mail is read or unread
         Flags flags=msg[k].getFlags();
                            Flags.Flag[] sf=flags.getSystemFlags();
                   for (int i = 0; i < sf.length; i++) {
                      if (sf[i] == Flags.Flag.DELETED)
                          System.out.println("DELETED message");
                           else if (sf[i] == Flags.Flag.SEEN)
                          System.out.println("SEEN message");
                          else if (sf[i] == Flags.Flag.ANSWERED )
                          System.out.println("ANSWERED  message");
                          else if (sf[i] == Flags.Flag.DRAFT )
                          System.out.println("DRAFT  message");
                          else if (sf[i] == Flags.Flag.FLAGGED)
                          System.out.println("FLAGGED message");
                          else if (sf[i] == Flags.Flag.RECENT)
                          System.out.println("RECENT message");
                          else if (sf[i] == Flags.Flag.USER)
                          System.out.println("USER message");
    or check
    msg[k].isSet(Flags.Flag.SEEN)
    is true or false
