3.06GHz 24" iMac (Early 2009) Video Question
Question. Should a white (or any color for that matter) background look completely solid on these displays? I see very subtle hints of gray (looks like a barely visible series of random horizontal bands (for lack of a better term). The glass is clean inside and outside. I even wiped down the display surface itself. No change. Recalibrating had no effect. Brightness and res changes have no effect.
Thoughts?

Kernel panic - iMac Early 2009 - OS 10.9.5
My iMac Early 2009 computer has been shutting down in different ways during different programs, usually graphics oriented. Usually it freezes the display or some part of the display, becomes very very slow and then maybe I can wait and save work before restarting, maybe not--it's just frozen. I was watching a video in Chrome just now and it completely shut down and restarted. This is the first time this has happened--complete shut down. I wonder if anyone can interpret the shut down log.
Specs are as follows:
iMac "Core 2 Duo" 3.06 24-Inch Aluminum (Early 2009) (E8435)
6 MB shared level 2 cache
1066 MHz system bus
8GB of RAM (1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM)
1 TB (7200 RPM)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 graphics - 512 MB GDDR3
Log of the shut down follows. Thank you very much in advance if anyone has any idea what is wrong.

I'm unable to install the Apple Hardware Test (holding D down doesn't work for me and I don't have the install disks that came with the computer anymore.) I think it is a hardware problem though, due to it happening during lots of different programs running etc. I'm guessing it is GPU related as well, because it says

From research I've done online, I gather replacing the video card will be half as expensive as buying a new computer, so I'm in a jam there. The iMac screen display is also quite old -- it has a yellowish color now and often on the desktop you can "see through" windows "on top": you can see the outlines of windows below. -
Adobe CS6.0 out of memory error on iMac (early 2009)
Hi:
Adobe CS6.0 Photoshop is returning "Out of Memory (RAM)" errors and is unusable on a lab of iMacs.
The system exceeds Adobe minimum specs (1GB ram).
Our school has a lab of computers with both Adobe CS5.5 and Adobe CS6.0 Master Collection installed on a lab of iMacs (early 2009).
The computers all have 4GB of memory and come with an NVidia GeForce 9400M 256MB video card.
I notice that this video card shares ram with the main system.
CS5.5 runs perfectly well but CS6.0 is not co-operating.
We have updated Photoshop to version 13.04 and have run Apple's Software Update (latest version).
I have looked online and this is a known problem with computers that have Adobe CS5 & 6 installed with Mac OS10.7.x but only on certain video cards.
There are people out there with 32 GB ram having the same problem.
I'm guessing the answer may be to update the video card drivers somehow.
Your input is greatly appreciated.
Regards
ODrewHi ODrew,
I'm shocked you can operate OK with only 4GB of RAM, that certainly wasn't enough for my 2007 iMac to not continually slow down!?
CS6 Sys requiremnts...
Mac OS
Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
Mac OS X v10.6.8, v10.7, or v10.8**
4GB of RAM (8GB recommended)
4GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
Additional disk space required for preview files and other working files (10GB recommended)
1280x900 display
7200 RPM hard drive (multiple fast disk drives, preferably RAID 0 configured, recommended)
OpenGL 2.0–capable system
DVD-ROM drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs (SuperDrive for burning DVDs; Blu-ray burner for creating Blu-ray Disc media)
QuickTime 7.6.6 software required for QuickTime features
Optional: Adobe-certified GPU card for GPU-accelerated performance
And I don't see that Video card supported...
http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html
I don't think you can upgrade that video card...

First is it possible to connect my imac eaRLY 2009 as display for my macbook white 2010?
first is it possible to connect my imac eaRLY 2009 as display for my macbook white 2010? If so what exact cables on the market do i need to purchase to make this work? Please help me out. I cannot afford to buy a new mac so temporarily this is my only solution.
Thanks to all my Mac buddies for your assistanceThe Early2009 20" or 24" iMac don't have any video-in capabilities.
Depending on your needs, you can investigate or tryout AirDisplay or ScreenRecycler which enable use of a Mac from another Mac or Windows PC through network/wireless connections.

24" iMac early 2009 - how to duplicate screen (mini DP to HDMI)?
Hello
I want to play movies on my TV which are located on this harddrive.
I have a PS3 so when i have software streaming that movies (uPnP style) to my PS3 it works. But then again, considering I like nature and all, I have to use 3 devices for getting that image through.
It would be far easier to just connect the mac to my TV using HDMI.
I know this is possible with a mini DP to HDMI cable. But does this iMac (early 2009) support audio streaming? I've read numerous of forums and they all have different answers. I know this forum is the right one to ask.
But if it doesn't support audio, then i'll need a devide which combines the mini DP and audio jack into a a hdmi output. This isn't such a problem I think except ...
If this audio jack is plugged in my iMac, won't I'll always loose the sound of my iMac (but I'll have that on my TV)? This bother me because I don't want to insert the audio jack every time I want to play a movie on my TV. But when the HDMI side is not connected to my TV, will my Imac still loose its audio?
It seems complex, but I just need a solution for watching those movies easily on my telly without having to switch cables all the time (and not use the PS3 which consumes power like a mad machine).
I'd like to know your input on this.
Thanks in advancedThe mini-DisplayPort does not carry audio. You can solve that issue with a device such as this one available in the USA. I do not know where you would find one in Europe.
However, as long as something is plugged into the Mac's audio port, that is normally where the audio goes. So if your TV is plugged into the audio port and the TV is off, your Mac will be silent.

Hello,
I've just installed LION and everthing seems to be OK except the microphone, it doesn't work on skype, imovie.
I have an Imac early 2009.
Will this bug be fixed in the next 10.7.1?
Please if you can help me,

Insert your Applications CD and hold C while the computer is starting up, then you will be walked through the installation of Applications. -

Will my US iMac early 2009 work in South Africa?
I am moving. I know that mobile and portable devices will work, but will a desktop? I do not see voltage guidance on the iMac casing.
Yes they are also 100-240V AC, see > iMac (Early 2009) - Technical Specifications
However you may need to find a power cord with the correct plug end or a plug adapter depending on the outlet configuration there. -

Mavericks is no longer available from the App Store, so your choice is Yosemite. One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Why iMac early 2009 beep 3 times?
I want to upgrade the ram of my 24 inch iMac (early 2009. It currently has two PC3 DDR3 1066 2GB running it. I bought a pair of PC3 DDR3 1066 4GB as Apple suggests on its support page. Even though everything is it should, every time I install the new ones and try to start up my computer it makes three beeps. I've read that this is a hardware error but I am sure I have the right spects on new ones, what can I do?

I have a IMAC early 2009 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Can I add more memory so I can upgrade to OS X Mavericks.
Yosemite; back up your data, click here, and read the entire page. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004; some other installed software may also be incompatible.

Installing SSD in 24" iMac (early 2009)
I've been thinking about replacing my hard drive (I posted previously about this) and by looking around have noticed that SSDs have now come down in price a lot. Here in the UK there is a SanDisk 480GB Extreme SSD for 270GBP. I've heard that SSDs can make a huge difference in performance and this drive isn't far off my current storage. I also have a 4TB NAS and 1TB FW drive so I'm Ok for space.
I've had a look at a few Youtube videos and it seems straightforward to swap, once I have a 2.5" to 3.5" bay converter.
My question is are there any compatibility issues with SSDs and my iMac (24" early 2009 2.93Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo)? I understand SATA III is SATA II compatible. I also believe that my iMac model has the external heat sensor so this shouldn't be a problem.
Also if anyine has any experience of a 2.5" to 3.5" bay converter that fits well, it would be great to know.
ThanksSome possible insight to those linked problems from OWC's site...
This OWC 6G SSD Model is compatible with nearly any Mac or PC model with a Serial ATA connection (SATA, SATA 2.0, or SATA 3.0) including:
All Mac Pro models
All PowerMac G5 models
All MacBook Pro models NOTE exceptions below
All Mac mini 2006-Current (All Intel Models)
iMac 2006-current (All Intel Models)
iMac G5
All MacBook models NOTE model exceptions below
Xserve 2009
Special note for specific 2008-2010 MacBooks & 2008-2009 MacBook Pros.
We highly recommend the use of a SATA 2.0 (3Gb/s) SSD such as the OWC Mercury Electra 3G for the following Macs:
MacBook Pro models with model ID:

While a 6G SSD does function, it will only do so at SATA Revision 1.0 (1.5Gb/s, 150MB/s) speeds rather that the SATA Revision 2.0 (3.0Gb/s 300MB/s) speed the computer can deliver.
The Mercury Electra 3G SSD is the OWC recommended upgrade option for the Macs listed in the special note above.
