3.1.3 upgrade no more volume control

Just upgraded OS on 1st gen touch and now there is no volume control bar. tried reinstalling 2 times with no result. anyone else have this problem or a solution?

I had the same problem. Had no problem prior to updating with 3.1.3.
I was finally able to restore my volumn (without having to use headphones/earbuds) by resetting the unit. Simply hold down the top button and menu button at the same time. It will shut the unit off. Then, hold them down again until you see the apple symbol. Wait a few moments and the unit comes back on. My volumn was then working again. Hope it works for you too.

  • [GOT AROUND] No more volume control in lxpanel

    Hello
I'm using Arch Linux with lxde and openbox, installed on USB pen (it's a persistent install, not a live one). My filesystem is ext4.
Since last filesystem update (following the home page of the wiki) the 'Volume Control' button of lxpanel is disabled, although the sound still works as it always did. If I right-click on it, in order to parametrize it, I get this message:
Error, you need to install an application to configure the sound (pavucontol, alsamixer ...)
The point is that alsamixer IS installed, and I can use it to increase/decrease the volume.
I tried to remove/re-install alsamixer: no change. I also killed lxpanel and restarted it from the command line, in order to check if I received some more enlightening error message: I got nothing.
    Any hint?

    Hello Lone_Wolf
Thank you for your reply. I removed lxpanel and installed fbpanel instead. Bad luck! The volume control of fbpanel doesn't work either, and moreover it prevents fbpanel from starting.
    $ fbpanel &
(fbpanel:1312): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory of theme Azenis Icons has no size field
    volume: can't open /dev/mixer
    fbpanel: can't start plugin volume
    [1]+ Termine 1 fbpanel
The point is that /dev/mixer doesn't exists. I have seen a bug report on this problem, which is open since... 2010-11-28! Well, I suppose that reporting a bug on lxpanel and being patient is probably the only thing to do. I'm going to close the subject.
Nevertheless it is strange that it occured to me with lxpanel only recently. Strange also that I'm the only Arch user experienceing this problem. Would it be possible that other users don't experience it because for some reason they do have /dev/mixer file? May I solve it by creating a link /dev/mixer pointing to some other sound related device? Advices welcome...
    Regards,

  • No More Volume Controls?

I just upgraded my iPod Touch to 3.0 and love it, but when I went to listen to music, there were no volume controls. There is no setting to enable volume controls. When I double click the home button, it says "Dock Connector" where the slider would usually be, but I don't have anything connected to it. I have an iPod Touch 1G. How do I change the volume?

I like this feature, it's pretty clever considering you don't need the volume controls when you have it docked to a set of speakers cause then it's the speaker controls that you are using not the volume controls on your device
Maybe you don't need the volume controls for your speaker dock system, but that is not universally true. My speaker dock system sounds better at a certain internal-volume level, and that level is different than the level I prefer when using the earbuds. Being able to change it only when the earbuds are connected is an unacceptable consequence of a paid upgrade.
Yes, I've already utilized the feedback link. And I also intend to let the manufacturer of the speaker system know that Apple's shortsightedness has hindered my enjoyment of and lowered the value of their product.

  • Front Row 1.2.1 No More Volume Control

Installed Front Row 1.2.1 on my iMac G5 iSight through Software Update, along with the other updates, and repaired permissions afterwards. The volume cannot be adjusted using the keyboard arrow keys or the Apple Remote. When + or - is pressed on the remote, the volume slider appears, but now the volume is on maximum, and cannot be adjusted. This is not limited to iTunes, it also occurred when playing QuickTime movies. The regular volume keys on the keyboard continue to adjust the main system volume, but we now lost the remote volume control. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

Solved my own problem through troubleshooting. The HK SoundSticks were the problem. When I got the new iMac G5 iSight, they worked great. Somewhere along the lines, the HK's got confused and my sound preference pane said No settings for this output device.
Browing the discussion boards, this has been a known issue...but the cause is difficult to determine.
If I boot from my external FireWire, all is well. The internal iMac drive, problem. Something could have happened with the migration from my PowerBook to the iMac, or a system update caused trouble.
I tried the quick solution...changed USB ports. Problem solved. The balance control is back and Front Row can control the volume once again. Bizarre, isn't it?

  • Ios 6.1 upgrade no more sound control / Battery issues

Hi, is anyone experiencing no sound control since the upgrade?
I no longer have use of the sound radio buttons on the left side of the phone for music or audio playback, nor is there any audio "slider" on the screen in video or audio mode anymore.
Even when I double-press the home button when the phone is locked, I am only left with a play button and skip forward/back buttons!  Once in a while, in locked mode it appears intermittently like a flicker, but that's it.  This is SO frustrating!!!  As far a as a media device, my iphone has been reduced to a brick!
If anyone from Apple is reading, the battery usage has also gone through the roof.  In the last five minutes, I've gone from 53 to 47 percent despite closing all background programs and having the screen off.

I had the same thing, but then after restarting it it began to work normally. Otherwise I'd try restoring it. The battery usage problem you might wanna get checked out though.

  • IPad 1 on iOS 5.1.1 I want the volume control in my iPad to more linear than logarithmic.

So I have this iPad 1, and I just recently noticed that the volume control is very quiet throughout most of the range of the volume control and it suddenly gets very loud near the top end of the slider, is there any way to make this change a little more distributed over the entire slider action

    Hi Steve,
I guess I'm confused.  Are you trying to sync with match? or is match off?
If you are trying to sync with match on then go to settings>music> and make sure that the show all music toggle is turned on.
If you are trying to sync with match off and are trying to put files onto your phone without usiing match then uncheck the music tab under your phones information on your computer and then let it sync and take everything off.  Then recheck the music box under the music tab and go to your summary page and make sure that the box that says sync only checked music is selected and resync.  Sometimes you have to take everything off before you can get it to resync and put stuff back on.
Again, if you talking about what you see with match turned ON, on your ios device then make sure that the toggle for show all music is turned on.
You cannot sync with your computer and itunes match at the same time.  You have to do one or the other.
Please let me know if I misunderstood your question or did not answer it properly.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
There will be no audio output in safe mode. The question to be answered by the test is whether any devices are listed in the Sound preference pane. After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • More finegrained audio volume control? (Harman/Kardon USB SoundSticks)

    Hi,
I've been asking this question for every major release since 10.2 and I am near to just give up on it. I use the Harman/Kardon SoundSticks (the older USB model, not version 2 with the regular audio jack) and since 10.2 they are simply too loud. Since the speakers themselves do not have any volume control knob it has to be a software solution.
With OS X's sound volume keys I can only use "1 bar of volume" when in front of my Mac and even that is too loud. The only solution is to turn it off completely or to lower it a little bit via the volume control slider in the menu bar. This results in approximately "3/4 bar of volume". Moving it just a tiny bit down from here results in muted audio.
Is there any way to just reduce the overall audio volume via software? Sure, I can do it app by app, but I really need a systemwide solution!
    Thanks
    Björn

Then maybe you're really lucky or just like the high volume setting. This problem exists for years now and it's definitely not caused by my hardware/software. It was the same with the following Macs:
    - Power Mac G4
    - iBook G3
    - iBook G4
    - Power Mac G4 Cube
    - PowerBook G4 Ti
    - PowerBook G4 Alu
    - MacBook Pro CD
    - MacBook Pro C2D
And it happened on all releases of OS X from 10.2 up to 10.5. All versions were installed clean without upgrading so I really have reason to believe it's Apple's sound driver for the SoundSticks...

  • Right-click on Magic Mouse and Volume Controls on Wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working

I am running Mavericks 10.9.2 on an Late 2012 iMac.
One morning the right click on my Magic Mouse and the volume controls on the wireless keyboard stopped working.

Restarting in Safe Mode - When starting in safe mode, the computer crashes out and restarted
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM - Is it CTRL+CMD+P+R or CMD+OPT+P+R ?  Neither work for me (I do try it using a wired keyboard, but never get the double chime)
Upgraded to 10.9.2 - no effect
Moved the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHIDMouse.kext and AppleHIDKeyboard.kext and and back in (and re-authenticate) - No joy
Moved the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHIDMouse.kext and AppleHIDKeyboard.kext from a working MacBook on same OS - Made the keyboard misbehave even more
Has anyone got any other cures for this?
    Thanks in advance.

Here is what worked for me.  My scrolling on the mighty mouse and a few buttons on my wireless keyboard weren't working properly.  I reset the SMC, a link explaining the process is below.  Hope it helps you too!

  • E51 Java volume control & short cuts..

    Hi,
I've recently purchased a E51. Things looked pretty good until I found the following issues:
    1. Volume level for Java games:
It appears that the games either blast in full sound, or no sound. There seems to be no way to control their volume level. I did some googling around and I find it hard to believe that there is no way to control their volume! Either the game developers have to provide it internally in their games or one will just simply have to turn the sound off! In one fell swoop, Nokia seems to have made all the preexisting java games incompatible with the E51. I find this a little bit like cheating/misleading, because one the spec you claim support for Java games. Is there some way via firmware upgrade or something that will enable the user to control the volume level of Java games? Will this be fixed in future?
    2. Shortcuts to folders:
I'd like to create a shortcut in active standby mode to my Installations folder, but I'm not able to figure this out. It seems to only allow shortcuts to individual apps. Is there a way to do this? One more thing is, I'd like to move things from the installation folder to folders under the file manager is this possible? If so how do I do this?
I'd already posted this, but I'm not sure anyone read it. I'd like to know what other E51 users are doing with the above mentioned problems. Sorry for the repost.
    Thanks.

    flodis79, thanks for your reply.
    1. In reality most phones do have that support, thats why the bunch of java developers out there don't build volume control within the game. My earlier phone a k500i Sony Ericsson had it. IIRC, even older Nokia phone my 6610 had it.
If I'm reading correctly, Nokia's latest firmware provides this support in the later S40 phones as well as S60 FP2 phones. Not having this control while claiming support for Java games is very unfair.
    2. With my earlier Nokia 6610, if I wanted to get to my games folder, I could configure it such a way that when I press the Right key, it automatically opens up. can you think of anyway to get that same convienience. After getting a faster processor, more memory & a better OS(?) I was totally disappointed to see such basic things missing.
One more question, If I wanted to say move an installed app from the installation folder to the Games folder under the file manager, is there no way to do it?

  • Volume control slider position not saved at exit

Just upgraded to 6.0.2.23 and when I started it for the first time, I noticed that the volume slider was pegged at max. Thought nothing of it and turned it down. The next day, when I started iTunes, I noticed that it was pegged again.
It appears to me that the position of the control is not saved any more. It was in the previous version and this is new.

    Hello,
In Captivate 5 there is a volume control widget. Did you try that? Open the Widget panel (or the Widget Workspace), click on the button Browse, you'll find it in the Gallery, Widgets folder.

  • Are there any iPhone headsets that allow volume control?

The new Apple In-Ear headphones are shipping at last, and I am considering buying some. I am currently looking to upgrade to some high-quality headphones from my standard iPhone buds, but I would like to have a working microphone and remote like those Apple buds have for my convenience. Are there any such headsets with working volume controls as well? Does the iPhone's audio jack lack a connector for this additional piece of equipment, as some folks are suggesting? A lot of people have been saying that the remote and microphone portion of the new In-Ear headset will work with the iPhone, but the volume buttons do not. I've seen mixed reports, so I'd like to hear some more opinions on this matter.
If volume control is not possible, I will still look into upgrading. So far, I'm considering the In-Ear phones, the V-MODA Vibe Duo headset. Any other thoughts or recommendations are appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    -MacUser

I bought a set of the Vmoda Vibe with the microphone. They sound great !! the silicone seals are just your average seals. After a couple of months the seals would sometimes stay in my ear when I pulled the earpiece out. A couple of months ago i bought some foam seals that work absolutely great. They are available on the Vmoda website. Kinda pricey..$14 ish for three pair. they only come in gray and accumulate dirt faster than the silicone seals but, they stay in your ear. Last week, as i wrapped the cord, i noticed it was broken at the pin plug site where it's curved (bends). This ***** as now when talking on the phone with the earbuds everything echos. My audio and the other persons audio also. Of course Apple won't exchange them since I purchased them more than two weeks ago. (A year hasn't expired yet) I'm going to send them to Vmoda and see what happens. I purchased the new Itouch earbuds. they are Apple white. I wished they came in black but, they are AWESOME !! The sound is incredible. The silicone seals work great so far. They look to be shaped differently so now they stay in your ear..so far...I purchased them for my iphone. The microphone/hold button work fine with no echo on either side. They have a volume level control but it does not work on the iphone. Bummer...This feature would have made them the ultimate Iphone earbuds. The volume does work on my ipod. Go figure. Overall, the new Apple In-ear headsets are great, They must have a tweeter and woofer in there cuz the sound is fantastic and the silicone seals actually stay in place.

  • Os X Yosemite Volume Control Won't Work

Since upgrading I've had serious issues with my volume control on my macbook pro. First is that the keyboard buttons won't do anything. I can press them and the picture shows up saying they're moving the volume up and down, but on the actual menu bar icon, nothing changes. Also, when I plug things into my computer I have to manually open the preferences to change the output, and once I do that I have to wait about 5 mins for it to register the change. I've tried restarting my computer many times but it doesn't seem to fix the issue :s.  HELP!
