3.1 Safari Download Help

I just heard about the 3.1 Safari version. So as I downloaded it said that the laptop will restart. As it restarted it turned back on again. Then nothing came on like the usual. So what do I do now? Please Help!

Hi
Welcome to Apple Discussions
The site sees you are using a Windows machine, hence it takes you to the Windows version. I suspect this page will not give you the OS X option because of the above check. Nonetheless, I'll post the site just in case.

  • Safari download

    Good Morning!
I have somehow deleted safari from my macbook. It's not just deleted from the doc, it is completely gone. I keep trying to find the version of safari for my operating system, but keep finding versions that are not supported by my system. Can anyone help by sending me a link to the download?
I do not have my install discs with me at the moment, and need to get safari downloaded ASAP. I would appreciate any help you could lend!

Download the 10.5.8 combo update here and apply it first:

  • Orphan desktop icon, probably from Safari download

I am a new user of Safari 3.1 under WinXP 5.1.2600.
I have an icon on my desktop that I can't get rid of. I believe it's from an aborted Safari download. When I try to delete or rename it, I get a window titled "Error Deleting File or Folder", with text "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." I can move the icon around the desktop, but cannot move it to another folder.
Later I had to abort a Safari download and got the same situation: another orphan icon. This time I restarted the download and when it completed, BOTH of the downloads turned into regular icons (labeled WinRAR in this case) and I was able to deal with them normally. This is why I think the orphan icon is also from a Safari download. It has extension ".rar." ending with a period. I imagine the original name might have ended with ".rar.download" since that is the way Safari labels files in the process of downloading, before they are complete.
Any help anyone can offer will be welcome. I would use Liquid Paper on the screen, but then I wouldn't be able to see my wallpaper.

go into windows safe mode and throw it in the trash can that should do the trick if it doesn't then I'm out of ideas here.

  • Safari download for mac.

my internet has been insane lately. so i decide to wipe out my browsers and re downlad them incase its just a corrupted safari. so i trash safari and keep firefox. all is well untill i go to the apple website and find now safari download for mac. am i crazy? there are 2 otions for windows users and no mac. uhhhhhhhhhhh.....help?!?!

The reason for the lack of a download is mainly due to WebKit. This is the part of OS X that knows how to render a webpage and is used by Safari, Dashboard, Help Viewer, Mail.app etc.
Each point release of OS X tends to update WebKit and the versions of applications that work with it. So, Apple would have to provide downloads for every variation of Safari that has been released - going back to 10.3 that's probably getting on for 15 different versions. As you can imagine this is just as likely to lead to people trying to install the wrong versions for their systems.
The same applies to other OS X applications - Mail, iCal, iChat, etc. None of these are available for individual download in the case of accidental deletion.
The one exception to this that is made is that you can reinstall certain applications from the installation DVD, as mentioned in [this article|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301229].
For Windows, life is a bit simpler as WebKit is delivered with the Safari application (since there are no dependent applications on Windows that use it).

  • Keeping track of Safari Downloads?

Keeping track of Safari Downloads? After they are deleted from the list? Anybody know how this is done? Just want to make sure my nephew isn't doing anything he isn't suppose to.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
There will be some software out there that should be able to achieve what you want (I had a quick Google and came across Kids GoGoGo for instance).
Depending on the age of your children, the parental controls in Tiger may or may not be up to par for your purposes. Essentially you can restrict the websites Safari can access to a specific list - this is probably a bit of overkill for an older child though (and if they manage to obtain another browser those controls no longer apply).
How do you access the internet? Do you use a router? Most usually come with history log functionality built in (and the ability to prevent access to addresses if needed). The only downside with this is that since it is at the central access point to the 'net, once you disable access to a site, all computers going through that router are affected, not just the intended user.
Hope some of that was helpful.

  • Cannot select the Safari Download button even though I can see it

I cleared the entries in my Safari Download button (not to be confused with the Downloads folder). Now this button is greyed and I cannot select it any more. Can anyone help?

Most likely problem is that the button disappears 'upon successful download' because your 'remove download list items' prefeference is set that way.  See below.. and set 'remove download list items' preference to either 'when safari quits' (like you see beow) or 'manual.'  Then the button will persist, and you can find the item easily until you quit safari .. or remove all items from the list manually .. depending on which of the two settings you choose.
I like the 'quit safari' option, because I don't have to do anything to keep the list small and usable; it is cleared out every time I quit safari.  And the files themselves persist in my downloads folder if I need to go find them later.

  • Safari download speed

Downloads on Safari are seeming sluggish, so I have been doing speed tests on my cable internet and find that the Safari downloads are 40-50% slower than the same tests run on Firefox. Any ideas of what to check? I am running a 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac w/4GB ram with my internet coming through an N enabled Airport Extreme base station.

    HI Jason,
Try maintenance and see if it helps...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
If Safari unexpectedly quits, it could be a 3rd party plugins causing the problem. Go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins. Move any 3rd party plugins to the Trash and restart your Mac.
Also, if you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Quit Safari then relaunch.
While you have the Get Info window open for Safari, make sure it's not running in Rosetta.

Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/ Move the Cache.db file to the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • Firefox lockup Window7 When Running Download Helper

Once in a while, after starting Firefox in my new Window7 laptop, the whole laptop would freeze. Task manager wouldn't open until Firefox crash or shutdown by Window7. I notice the download helper addon running something. After reboot and Firefox restarted, Firefox couldn't find the old browser profile.

Thanks again Viking OSX, it's nice to know it's not just me. Once you put me on the trail I checked around and see that an incompatability issue between Firefox and Adobe has been going on for several months
    http://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2012/05/04/adobe-reader-blocked-mac/
I guess my simplest solution is to  use Safari for viewing PDF's untill adobe sort out the plug-in issue. Bit of a pain but not quite worlds end!
Just a thought, isn't OX10.8 supposed to be able to read PDF's by itself?

It would appear that your system is somewhat mangled, and it is time for some general 'servicing'.
    Start here:
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.
    Background information here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452?viewlocale=en_US
    and here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.
    More useful reading here:
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck

For a full description of how to resolve Disk, Permission and Cache Corruption, you should read this FAQ from the X Lab:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html
Reboot your Mac and then perform a Safe Boot:

Now try downloading and installing again.

  • Safari, Mail, Help crashes since 10.4.11

    Hello!
Since i update to 10.4.11 some applications crashes when i try to start them with the "unexpected quit" message (Safari, Mail, Help-Viewer, Software-Update)
I did not use any hacks, i also look in the libery but there is no PicLens and no other Plug-In.
When i try to load the 10.4.10 Combo Updater the system crash again with the "unexpected quit" message.
I use the Disk-Utility to repair the hard disk but it doesn´t help.
I have no other Idea! Can you help me please?
    Basti

    Bastian,
After your backup I would recommend that you download and attempt to reapply the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC).
Very often a Combo Update will be successful when an incremental Software Update has not been successful.

  • Error Message When Installing Download Helper 4.8.2 Add-On

I've updated to Firefox 3.6.13. The Add-on tab shows that there are add-on updates to be installed. When I download these flash download updates (Download Helper and Flash Video Downloader) and then try to install them I get an error message saying they can't be installed due to an "error in parsing value" message, "declaration dropped." All other updates are fine.
Any idea what may be the problem?
