3.1 upgrade confuses Alpine car stereo

I realize this is not the place for car stereo tech support, but the new iPod Touch 3.1 upgrade has had a weird side effect on my iPod-ready Alpine CDA-9883. Now, upon power-up, the display reads "NO SONG" and refuses to play, search or do anything until I physically unplug and re-plug the iPod.
In case I can't figure this out, is there a place to downgrade to the previous iPod software?

Cliff: Thanks, that seems to work.
I've noticed a couple of tracks' information will stay up on the display after the next song has started... no biggie, but it seems the Alpine doesn't like something about the file organization on the new OS 3.1.
Wouldn't it be nice if you could update the Alpine's OS with a file on a CD-R? Alpine, are you listening?

  • Why does my ipod no longer work with my alpine car stereo

my ipod connects directly to my alpine car stereo and up til now it has worked great. i recently synced my ipod to my computer and i think it updated the software on my ipod and now my ipod no longer works with my alpine stereo. what is up? did apple change something that would make my ipod no longer compatible with my car stereo? if so, what do i do? i have about $1000 invested in my car stereo and ipod specifically for car use. this is a serious issue for me! i just want my ipod to work like it did…
i just connected my friends ipod and it works fine. he has version 1.1.1 software on his. i have version 2.3 on mine. since my ipod works fine by itself i’m assuming that the incompatibility between my ipod and my alpine is due to the software update.
here again, what do i do? how can i get an older version of software back on to my ipod?

what kind of connection do you have? do you use the ipod 30 pin cable that connects directly to the head unit? it so, maybe you could get help on the alpine site, or a similar site?it could just be a bad connection. you may just have to go oldschool and use rca cables and plug those in...

  • HT1369 I have an Alpine car stereo with USB port for my iPod, most recently an error message apperared.  Now I am having a problem connecting to iTunes  via my computer, with windows 7. The screen on my iPod still shows the Alpine logo and "Ok to Disconne

Please help. My iPod froze up after playing in Alpine car stereo. The screen shows the "Alpine" logo and the message "ok to disconnect" I have tried to connect to my PC with little success.  Windows 7 does not recognize the iPod with the error message "device error".  I have run the iTunes Diagnostics but it still does not recognize device as "connected"

See my reply to "Transferring Tunes" . Suggestion: From what you said, it sounds like you could easily connect this iPod to a Windows computer. Go back to the computer where you have the 3600 songs. Get the files out of the folder where they reside and put them on the iPod as data (your iPod has to be set up for disc use. So you will then have your music on there as the iTunes music AND the data files. Take that iPod to your Mac. Drag those files from the Finder, where you will see them on your iPod, which will mount like an external disc. (It was set up for disc use). Drag those files to your iTunes Library in the Source List (on the left) in iTunes. You might have to drag them into some interim folder on your harddrive first, like the Music folder within your User.

  • Working iPod 5th Gen with Alpine Car Stereo CMA9855

    Hi
Just wondering whether anyone has tried using the latest iPod with Alpine Car Stereo CMA 9855 with an iPod interface.
Problem - not all artists show up on the stereo screen + can't get quick search to work. Is it an alpine stereo software problem?
    Appreciate any feedback.
    Dom

I have a Clarion Pro Audio deck/Clarion IPOD connector. My system worked great up until IPOD SW 1.2.
Before, I could control the IPOD on the face of the IPOD. Now, the IPOD works, but it's in locked mode, so I can't browse artists/albums any more. Baiscally, I have to hit RANDOM TRACK mode, and hope I land on a CD I'm in the mood for.
Very frustrating, although GAPLESS is great. (FINALLY!!!!)

  • Alpine Car Stereo

Does anyone know if the iPhone works with the Alpine car stereo adapter?
I would test it myself, but I don't want it to screw with anything.
    Thanks!

I have the Alpine IVA-W200. Here's what I have experienced so far:
    1. The iPhone will work with the iPod adapter.
    2. Create Music Playlists first before using the iPhone if you have Video on your iPhone - Very important!
    3. After you connect your iPhone, it will bring up a dialog box about switching to Airplane Mode - Select 'No', otherwise your phone features will be turned off.
    4. Switch your Alpine Deck to iPod mode (music may play right away), however, you will want to select a Playlist (If you just let the iPhone shuffle through songs it will also try to play Videos as songs and this will give you a message on the Alpine deck Error 01 and shut down)
    5. If you get the Error 01 message, you will need to disconnect your iPhone, go to the iPod mode on your iPhone and select a song before reconnecting. If you disconnect and reconnect it will remember what was last played and go right back to the Video and give you the Error 01 message again.
    6. All my Playlist, Artist, Song and shuffle features worked on my deck (Again be careful to remember that your Video tracks will show up as Artist and/or Song tracks, so don't select them by mistake. ie Foo Fighters Video will look the same as a Foo Fighters song)
    7. The iPod adapter will charge the iPhone (Save you from having to get a cig lighter adapter).
If you have a Bluetooth enabled Deck:
If the iPhone is or is not connected to the Alpine iPod adapter and you have Bluetooth turned on your iPhone, it will turn off the music and allow you to answer the phone call, speak through the Alpine mic and listen through your car speakers.
For those with a Bluetooth earpiece but no Bluetooth Deck:
When I have my Bluetooth earpiece connected to my iPhone with my iPhone connected to my Alpine iPod adapter. If I get a phone call, the iPhone will stop the music, I can answer or ignore the call. If I answer the call, when the call is complete, the music will start right up where it left off. If I ignore the call, again the music will start up where it left off.
So for those of you that do not wish to spring for the $120 Alpine Bluetooth adapter + installation, you can still get the convenience of the music shutting down when the iPhone rings and starting up after the call is complete, if you use a Bluetooth earpiece.

  • Alpine car stereo works with iPhone

I've consistently said it would require new hardware but I just found out that firmware 1.1.1 on the iPhone works with my Alpine car stereo just fine.
It does ask (doesn't it always?) if you want to go to airplane mode to reduce interference, but it charges and plays properly, allowing all the iPod functions (list selection, skipping back and forth through tracks, etc). It's very cool (although I still think I'll use my Nano for this -- however in a pinch it might be something I'd do).
For all those looking for a "car" solution the Alpine is at least working just fine. Perhaps other car iPod solutions work with the 1.1.1 update as well (I can't test to be sure). One thing for sure -- it did not work properly prior to this update (I couldn't even get it to charge).

    Mike Kelley,
Did you update to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 which was released this week?
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Nano for Alpine Car Stereo

I have the Alpine KCA-4201 Interface Adapter For Ipod installed with the proper head unit. Ipods and Ipod mini's seem to work fine, but when I plug in my Nano the head unit reads the song files, and you can tell the song is playing on the head unit, but no sound comes out. This seems to happen ONLY with the Nano. Is there some sort of software update? Or does this Alpine unit not support the Nano? Anyone...??

I've had my nano for over three months now, and I'm beginning to realize that, after meeting a few other nano owners, each nano behaves differently, as if it has its own personality?
I had an iPod interface connected to my car stereo a month ago. My nano has no problems hooking up. When my friend plugs her nano in my car, it needs to be reset, every single time. She did a full restore, using the latest updater, and the same thing happens. To test things, I did a full restore on my nano, using the same updater, and no problems.
So, it appears that no two nanos are created equally...
Hopefully, someone may have an answer.

  • Connecting to alpine car stereo

I connected my ipod nano to my Alpine stereo and it worked nicely ( once ). The next time I got in the car, it wouldn't play. The ipod said ok to disconnect, but the stereo seemed to be playing music, I just wasn't getting any sound out of the speakers. When the ipod is connected to my stereo shouldn't it be saying "do not disconnect?"
I am so frustrated. I don't know if I have to set something on the ipod or what. My car stereo reconizes that the ipod is hooked to it and it even displays the names of artist I have on my ipod, it just won't output sound. I really think it has something to do with the ipod saying ok to disconnect. Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Does it normally say Do Not Disconnect? Usually when the iPod is connected to a car system, it displays OK to Disconnect. That part seems to be normal.
Disconnect your iPod from the system and reset it...
    Resetting iPod
Now connect it back up. Does it work? You may also want to try resetting it while it is connected to the stereo.

  • Nano and Alpine Car Stereos

Took my Nano to my local independent car stereo installer this afternoon - I wanted to see what options gave me better sound than the FM modulators.
Excuse me if you all already know this, but Alpine's new head units and their iPod adapter work with the Nano - offering total control of your nano from the car stereo face. Song title and artist are displayed on the car stereo screen. And the Alpine iPod adapter even charges the Nano while attached.
I mean, the shop owner asked me for my Nano. He plugged it into the Alpine iPod interface. And within three or four ceconds, there was my first cut off my iPod! The car stereo displayed my iPod's name. And then (if I remember correctly) the song title - then the album name.
I was immediately sold. I chose the Alpine CDA-9851 head unit, plus the iPod adapter. Due to the fact that my Ford's original stereo was "double-DIN" in height, I will "gain" a little felt-lined shelf under this new Alpine - to hold the Nano, of course!
It all gets installed this Saturday! I'll report back after playing with it for a few hours.

There are plenty of options out there, and buying into the "brand name experience" is one of them. The benefits of your choice is that you have full control through the stereo itself (and possibly the steering wheel). Other options are less costly, but require manual control via the iPod.
    Have fun!

  • 3gs work perfect with alpine car stereo i have 4s no compatible radio what i do?

No sound 3gs work find now 4s no sound now the rumor said you going to change
Tip of charger less compatible to car stereo and devices?

Well, you could go with a belkin car charger that's white or black to match your ipod., then use a tape adapter or FM transmitter to get the ipod signal to your stereo.
This might be a good start - I enjoy belkin products.

  • Iphone not working on my Alpine car stereo after upgrade to 2.1

    Any ideas about the problem.
    Older ipod works fine.

You have no idea how frustrated I was last night. I couldn't figure out what the heck the problem was, but I'm having the same exact problem as you. I'm going to try this fix and see if it works.

  • OS 4.0 no longer works with my Alpine Car Stereo

Pops up and says the phone is not compatible with this device could cause interference or something like that. Ive used this feature for years now.

I'm definitely paying close attention to this.. I have an Alpine CDE-102, and I was about to add on the alpine 400BT http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/kce-400bt/, but now I want to see if it is going to work with the new IOS4?
currently I connect my iPhone 3GS with the 433iv cable and it sometimes gives me the "not made for iPhone" compatibility error, sometimes no... I also don't think it charges my phone as fast as the the cigarette lighter adapter. Also, I've managed to confuse the heck out of my head unit if I play audio from an "app" rather than the iPod itself. Like the "this american life app" or "stitcher".. Definitely works, but also gets confused with my current 3Gs operating system.
I was hoping the new OS might make all that work better...
This is a pretty impressive bit of integration.. Pandora friendly... but all I really want is the ability to keep my phone charged, play music from my phone or an app, and to dump that music and switch to answer a call when a call comes in.

  • Alpine Car Stereo Messing With My 60

I just got the Alpine 9856 with the super duper connection cable thing for my Ipod Photo 60. Sure beats the heck our of FM adaptors. When I disconnect my Ipod, the repeat function gets turned on and there's what looks like a "fast forward" (two right facing triangles) icon in the upper left corner of the display where it usuall shows the "play" and "pause" icons. What does this icon mean and how do I undo it?

  • Any ideas on problem with ipod and alpine cde-9881 car stereo

I have an ipod 60gb v 1.2.1 and a new Alpine car stereo with Ipod connecting cable. When connected, the stereo message reads IPod searching. It never assumes control of ipod,or quits searching. I have reset and restored my ipod, had the apple geek at genius bar check it out. My ipod does not play on the alpine ipod ready stereo in my husband's car, nor the stereos in Car Toys. My husband's 30 gb ipod plays on the stereo in his car AND my car. Help! Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Alpine is telling me it could be a software problem with my ipod, and to revert to an earlier version of itunes. But my husband's ipod works in my car. So I did a restore using his computer and itunes....no luck. am interested in any ideas on a possible solution!!
    Thanks in advance

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.
